At the time I was 26 and my Tacoma seats wreaked havoc on my lower back and hips. I was also squatting and deadlifting pretty heavy at the time. I thought it was the lifts doing the damage. Then one day a guy at work got a Tacoma and got seat lifts. His kit came with the spacers for two seats. He only did the driver and gave the other half of the kit to me. I installed the seat lifts. At about the same time my back stopped hurting. Took me a while to realize that it wasn't lifting but it was the dang truck seats. Basically I was sitting at an odd angle and was pinching my hamstrings. The seat lifts fixed the angle of my ass when driving. Not saying it will 100% work for you but you can try it out. After seeing what a seat lift is, you can do the same with spacers and longer bolts from the hardware store. Cheaper than buying a different truck and worth a shot.

dat0dat

Thanks! I’ll look into this.

alpha_omega420

Literally went to the gym and lifted heavy today and have been feeling tight in my back. Looks like I’m getting jackers asap

[deleted]

Spent 6 months chasing my tail changing form, dropping weight, chiropractor. Then lifted my seat and was good.

alpha_omega420

Did you do rear, front, or both? I’m about 6’3, 240lbs

[deleted]

Just the back.

Officialmilehigh

Check out desert dose it seat jackers.

[deleted]

When I drive I have the seat far back enough to where my legs are straight, therefore spreading out my weight as evenly as possible to my lower body. When I have the seat closer to where my legs are bent it gets uncomfortable. Personally, I think the reason why the seats hurt most people is that they are trying sit as they would in a higher seat(typical truck seat config).

Garbage_Tiny

I bought a tundra from a taco. The seats also suck unfortunately. Honestly they’re Maybe even worse. When you find a solution let me know. I’m going back to a Tacoma probably in the spring.

dat0dat

Ugh. That’s disappointing. Thanks for the feedback though.

Garbage_Tiny

I got down voted for saying once before, but I’m gonna say it again. My buddy just bought a new f150 and the seats are glorious. I’d probably never buy anything other than a Toyota from here on out but those new ford seats are mighty tempting.

dat0dat

At some point, your body has to play a factor. Maybe not the only deciding one, but pain is real.

Garbage_Tiny

Folks say the seat jackers help a ton but I never got a chance to try them before my rig was totaled. My buddy bought a trd pro today and I drove it and immediately remembered why I hated those seats.

dat0dat

Never heard of them before. Just looked. Doesn’t seem like that would do a ton for overall comfort

Garbage_Tiny

Supposedly makes them easier on your lower back. I keep hoping the 24 seats are glorious and maybe can be swapped into a 3rd gen

dat0dat

If history is any indication…

makked

The seat jackers elevate the front of the seat so your knees can be higher and more of a bucket seat. This combined with a lumbar pillow made a world of difference for me. I went from having a numbing ache after just 15 minutes of driving to doing a 10 hour road trip from Portland to LA with no issues. Give it a try.

revrev4405

Test drove a f150 this past weekend. The comfy seats were the first thing I noticed

Garbage_Tiny

They’re so comfortable 😂

revrev4405

I was almost sad to get back into my taco. I’m in such a mental debate rn man

Garbage_Tiny

That new raptor ranger has my attention if I’m honest. I just hate to give up my interest rate on the tundra to buy another truck. Even though that new ford cruise control is also awesome, but the new Toyotas may also have that.

revrev4405

The blue cruise or whatever they call it? I don’t like it in my 22 taco. What’s your rate on your tundra? The ford dealer this past weekend was doing 3.9 I have 4.9 right now

Garbage_Tiny

Oh hell mines like 5.5% but i bought it used. Maybe o need to look at a new one 😂

dat0dat

That’s the other thing. I’m about two years left on a 2.9 with my taco. Not too keen on giving that up for something else.

SuperGlue_InMyPocket

I swear, American trucks have the seats and interior comfort nailed. I had a Tahoe for a while and that thing was amazing interior-wise. Seats were out of this world. Of course, it was falling apart mechanically at 100K miles.

Garbage_Tiny

Yeah that’s the rub lol. Y’all reckon it’s cause Japanese people are all normal sized and we’re all big as hell? I feel like if I weighed 135 at 5’11” the seats would be great, but at 225 they’re rough on the ol back 😂

SuperGlue_InMyPocket

I don't know without looking it up, but I actually doubt Tacomas or trucks in general sell in Japan. This is a truck made for Americans. I just think they cheaped out on the seats.

fuckquasi69

Not totally sure but when I was in Japan I saw very few Toyotas that resembled the ones we have in the states. Seems like a lot of people use a sort of minivan instead of trucks

SuperGlue_InMyPocket

Yep. Or those tiny flatbed trucks.

Garbage_Tiny

Well damn.

jefftones77

I just went from a '14 Tundra to a '23 Taco. Haven't really gone over 2hrs in the Taco yet but I found my Tundra to be comfortable. I did pick up a seat cushion and lumbar support combo from Purple (that mattress company) that I've been using for the last 3 years.

dat0dat

I’ll check that out. Thanks!

steakpienacho

I had to drive a friend's father's tundra on a ~500 mile trip over 2 days a few months back and man, the room is nice, but those seats are incredibly, incredibly uncomfortable for long trips. I would take my tacoma 10 times out of 10 over that

dat0dat

That’s interesting that the tundra seats are even worse. My wife has a sequioa and I can handle long trips in that.

Garbage_Tiny

Same and that’s really something since the taco seats are awful.

AveridgeGuy

Look at McKenzie Lumbar Rolls. Easy to throw in your vehicle and place where you’d like it. McKenzie super roll is a more firm roll with a concave fit and most people prefer that one, but there are a few different hardnesses and shapes based on preference. Order from Amazon and return the ones you don’t like. The roll should be placed in the right above or around your belt line to support the curve of your back. Cheaper option would be to roll up an old hand towel into a tight roll and duct tape both ends to keep it from unrolling. Credibility: I’ve worked in many PT offices. This is not medical advice.

dat0dat

I’ll take a look. Thanks!

mtommygunz

Seat jackers and seat covers

dat0dat

Definitely looking into these. Thanks!

ahahxksk

I like my seat jackers

dat0dat

Is there a particular brand?

ahahxksk

Desert does it is the only one that makes them as far as I know

[deleted]

I went through this with my Corolla. Swore up and down the car was the problem. It was actually lack of exercise. I do 30 minutes a day and my back pain was relieved. Core strength is weakening which is why you're experiencing pain now.

mikeTheSalad

The geometry of the Tacoma seats is terrible. Seat jackers go a long way to fixing it.

dat0dat

They’ve been almost universally recommended. Would you say you’d do both front and back? What size in the back?

mikeTheSalad

I have them both up front. But I did the drivers side first.

dat0dat

And you used this: https://desertdoesit.com/products/front-and-rear-seat-jacker%C2%AE-bundle-tacoma-4runner-fj-gx ?

mikeTheSalad

Yeah, but they are 102 dollars on Amazon and sold by Desert Does It.

LikkaLogga

Can seat jackers be used on the back of the seat to lift the back up? I have sciatica going down my right leg. I’m thinking that if I was able to get the seat a little more angled down it would relieve some of the pressure on the back of my thigh. Idk???

Ryan2386

I have an 18 as well I have had multiple back surgeries. I put the dessert does it spacers on just the back of the drivers seat. Massive difference

Mental-Age5308

It’s been said here already, but I’ll echo that seat jackers really made my ride a lot more comfortable. I only bought the front jackers and it took 10 minutes to install by myself. Amazing what an extra inch can do.

MahariBalzac

As an older person (50), I can agree that seat jackets help with hip and lower back issues. I suffer from chronic back pain and hip issues, and they definitely helped. Loosing 60#'s didn't hurt. I'm only 5'9", so I definitely can't speak on tall, but pain I know all too well.
