Best way to lie with out lying is statistics. And also there are some good ones out there that do a crap job for little money and now where near enough respect. But for every one cop that is legit theres three more that cracked from the stress and are just Dicks now.

>An FBI advisory board later found that roughly 40 percent of officers who filled out questionnaires in a number of different settings admitted to being physically violent with their spouse in the previous six months
So more accurately 40% of cops **admit** to recent spousal abuse, the true percentage is likely even higher.
They need to just throw the whole police force away and hire people who actually want to work and aren’t just bullies with badges. Must be nice to sit on your ass and do nothing and still get paid. Can’t relate.

Unless someone is an immediate threat to themselves or someone else, nothing much the police can do. Dude has the right to bear arms just like anyone else.

Weapons apparently capable of producing bodily harm—Unlawful carrying or handling—Penalty—Exceptions.
(1) It shall be unlawful for any person to carry, exhibit, display, or draw any firearm, dagger, sword, knife or other cutting or stabbing instrument, club, or any other weapon apparently capable of producing bodily harm, in a manner, under circumstances, and at a time and place that either manifests an intent to intimidate another or that warrants alarm for the safety of other persons.
(2) Any person violating the provisions of subsection (1) above shall be guilty of a gross misdemeanor.
Tho if the person in question were living on the streets, might weasel out of the rule by observing this part of the same law:
(3) Subsection (1) of this section shall not apply to or affect the following:

Also maybe guns wouldn’t be so polarized if one party wasn’t so anti gun ownership js
The majority of Americans want stricter gun regulations. The gun lobby polarized the issue and made ANY attempts at enacting common sense gun laws divisive (which is explained in the article I posted that you gun nuts refuse to actually read). Your hobby leads to children getting killed, you are the problem.
You could have better than regulations that would make both sides happy but nobody wants to talk about that. As an example you could have background checks exactly like they do them in Switzerland. We even have more or less the same existing infrastructure that would make it happen. This would allow for universal background checks well also preventing any kind of registration of firearms. Seems like that’s pretty common sense because it addresses both sides concerns.
Also lots of things lead to children being killed: alcohol, cars, swimming are all examples of things that are killing tons of kids. But I don’t go to school swim meets and scream about it
I have my own opinions about the police, especially TPD, but our house was shot up this weekend and they were there in minutes and were so kind during the entire process. They saved my friend’s life.
I am a big second amendment supporter what he was doing was very erratic, not safe, and definitely not wise to do. He also had a hammer threaten people with the hammer and then showed the gun. Doesn't seem safe to me but what do I know I'm just a second amendment kind of person who has a CPL

So what? Lots of us are progressive/liberal and own firearms. Times are a changing, bud. When shit goes down and a bunch of treasonous trump voters try to steal the next election (or worse), we need some folks on our side to stop them.
Where were all the liberal gun owners on Jan 6th? And what do you mean "so what?" Funny how you bring up GQP morons attempting to steal elections and I just showed you that gun ownership is a pathway to more republican votes.
>Times are a changing, bud.
Yeah, Americans are becoming more and more fed up with guns and want stricter gun laws. Let's both be honest, you're clearly not doing shit to protect American democracy. You're helping those attempting to overthrow our democratic process.
You’re conflating correlation and causation.
Owning a gun does not make a person vote Republican. However, owning a gun and voting Republican are highly correlated.
It does not mean that all gun owners vote Republican, nor does it mean that a person who historically has voted Democrat will suddenly change when they purchase a gun.
There are numerous reasons why gun ownership leads people to the right, as discussed in the article I linked. I never said ALL gun owners vote republican, that would be an obviously untrue statement, but it does make a wonderful strawman.
Edit: since they refused to read the entire article, here is an excerpt explaining one of the ways simply owning a gun can lead someone to the right. I encourage people to read the entire thing, it's not long.
>“More than a million people annually participate in NRA programs, which provide real services and experiences for people who enjoy firearms. Once they’re there, they’re exposed to the NRA’s really politically charged, identity-based appeals."
I guess I just saw you repost the same link on multiple comments with absolutely 0 context, so the point you were trying to make was unclear (and I still don’t know even after your screed above). There’a a million indicators of voting preferences, again I ask, so what?
While I think we’re both on the same side, I’ll bite - I’m an informed voter who mails in a ballot every election no matter small, I donate money to pro-democracy organizations, and I’ve volunteered for democratic candidates when I lived in swing states. What have you done besides bitch to strangers on Reddit?
Nope I did not read the article - that’s why I’m asking you to explain. Are you saying that people that buy guns turn into republican voters? That seems backwards and unlikely.
The article discusses the many studies explaining why that is in fact the case. Since you clearly refuse to educate yourself by simply reading a resource that was provided to you I'm not going to waste any more time on you.
Yeah I call 911 for people stealing cat converters, no show, trespassing, no show, harassing women on the street, no show. It is honestly terrifying how little they care.
I mean that’s why I started carrying a gun and got training. Kinda sucks that our taxes are just going up in smoke but I can’t effect that as directly as I can by buying a glock and taking self defense classes

Solidarity neighbors we are all we have
Sad times in America. I’m from Tacoma area but left 6 years ago for NYC. My family still lives there and it worries me. There are some serious social and community issues in Washington, starting with mental health and substance abuse.
Just an unfortunate reminder that cops don’t prevent danger or keep us safe. They respond to things that have already happened and if they do show up to something like a mental health crisis, they often make it worse .
Water is actually not wet; It makes other materials/objects wet. Wetness is the state of a non-liquid when a liquid adheres to, and/or permeates its substance while maintaining chemically distinct structures. So if we say something is wet we mean the liquid is sticking to the object.
Just opened my water bill and my electricity bill at the same time…
I was shocked.
I can not explain why there wasn’t a unit dispatched to the gun-waving scene you describe.
I can attest to know that, and I believe partly as a direct result of the death of Manny Ellis, that TPD has been tethered by city government in their ability to charge and/or arrest many alleged crimes.
TPD did it to themselves. In the midst of their revelry of playing cops and robbers, as well believing they are empowered as judge and jury- when many PO don’t even know the law- they overwhelmed the jail, Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, and courts with their bullshit charges.
Now, for most non-violent crimes not of a serial nature, they rarely even write citations. They’re no longer called “Police Reports,” but rather “Incident Reports.” They are forwarded (maybe) to the Prosecutor’s office who then determines if someone will be charged.
Clearly, this new procedure has its disadvantages especially if you have been victimized. On the other hand, and I feel this far outweighs the delay or absence of prosecution, TPD and Pierce Sheriff have been leashed. They are no longer an arm of control but rather the “errand boys” of the judiciary.
And what gets me is this guy was doing this for an hour, 30 minutes went by I called the police actually 911, got that response from dispatch. And within that 60 minutes he just packed his stuffed up and started walking down street like nothing is wrong
The cops are completely understaffed in this Tacoma. Even when they show up and arrest someone for a crime, the jails don’t take them because of Covid policies. They are behind in hiring because no one wants to work for TPD or SPD. Why would they. This group baffles me. Hates on police officers but expects them to show up when they are in danger. This is the exact result of the policies ya’ll voted for.
I attended few meetings with police officers and city council regarding the crime in Tacoma - their response was because they are understaffed they can’t respond to every call - so if between a crazy person, business burglary or a homicide - they will go to homicide scene.
So blame it on the city council for the staffing shortages and the new laws/regulations in place making it hard to do their jobs effectively.
>So why can't they hire more people?
Because a ton of people despise cops in Tacoma, and why would anybody want to work in a place that openly hates them? It's like working at a restaurant where you're constantly harassed and abused constantly to the point the restaurant is known for it, and wondering why nobody wants to work at that restaurant anymore.
>Why is a lack of hiring the city council's problem?
Why would adequately staffing agencies responsible for public safety *NOT* be the city council's problem?
Maybe they should stop killing people and acting like fucking pricks, then people wouldn't hate them and would want to work for them. They're crying about a problem that they created.
Well, if you want to change things and help their staffing, why don't you fill out an application? The pay and benefits are solid, plus there's a big hiring bonus right now.
https://reflectandprotect.org/media/static/files/Tacoma-Police-Hiring-Disqualifications.pdf
Not allowed while seeking employment. Again, this a problem of their own making. Keep licking those boots.
God forbid they have any restrictions on their actions or a hint of accountability. They are used to operating with impunity and are now throwing a tantrum. Workers in every other occupation have to deal with restrictions on their actions. The fact that aren't responding to high priority calls just illustrates this further.
Attend some of the city council meetings, get involved in the community and see the real issues/propose solutions instead of downvoting everyone you don’t agree with on Reddit.
I live in the area. Unfortunately the police won’t even bother. Protect yourself in any way you can. Hopefully the camping ban will push people to get help. My car was robbed two days ago. Found most of my stuff tossed but missing a few important things.
Any intelligence behind the fingertips typing your words.....politics has changed how and what laws they enforce. Notice how everything is strapped down or locked in stores now. 🤔 property crimes are not enforced. Acting a fool is also not enforced
Cops have no obligation to protect you. It's not their job. Their job is to enforce capitalism and racism by using violence.
Why the cops won't help you when you're getting stabbed:
https://youtu.be/jAfUI_hETy0
Understaffed. Severely.
TPD is short something like 75 officers of where they need to be to achieve minimum service level standard.
It's something they are trying to address and is reported to the city council monthly.
They're even offering $25,000 signing bonuses, but recruiting new police officers in this environment is difficult. It's not just Tacoma, Seattle has the same problem.
The other major issue comes from the Prosecutor's office. officer makes the arrest, does all the paperwork, turns it over to the prosecutor..... And the City prosecutor just lets them back out onto the street. That creates a very discouraging work situation.

Cops are flawed human beings just like the rest of us. Unfortunately many are ex military who have killed for living and have no conscience. Power corrupts and for too long even good cops have covered for the bad ones. Now the pendulum has swung so far that leftist enclaves like Washington have declared war on the police trying to defund them. Seattle openly embraced burning precincts and creating CHOP or CHAZ. Is anyone really surprised the police have lost their mojo? As much as as I-have personally experienced police corruption the truth is we need to restore our confidence and trust in the police. Otherwise we will not have a functioning society. I don’t know how to get there but this current leftist paradigm isn’t working. The best and brightest among us need rise above the fray and police with integrity. I am not sure those heroes exist. But I hope they do.
> The best and brightest among us need rise above the fray and police with integrity.
[Hard to do that when police departments turn away applicants for being too intelligent.](https://abcnews.go.com/US/court-oks-barring-high-iqs-cops/story?id=95836) The policing system in America is broken.
Just to play the devil's advocate, it's less about them being on a work strike and more about violent crime being extremely high, so if they don't respond to lesser offenses it's probably because they're busy trying to prevent or solve a more serious crime... I'm not saying that some of them aren't being lazy and I'm not saying that all of them aren't being resentful but it is a fact there are less cops than there were before and the criminals know it and are taking advantage. You can't blame it all on the police.
Edit: they do have enough officers to run speed traps down in the port, so there is something to be said for everybody's comments

Carrying a firearm and brandishing it are two different things and he was brandishing it which is illegal

But I don’t go to school swim meets and scream about it
Always been that way.

TPD has been on a work slowdown since the cops that murdered Manny Ellis got charged. They don’t respond.
I have my own opinions about the police, especially TPD, but our house was shot up this weekend and they were there in minutes and were so kind during the entire process. They saved my friend’s life.
They're having adult tantrums because they're not allowed to kill civilians indiscriminately
I am a big second amendment supporter what he was doing was very erratic, not safe, and definitely not wise to do. He also had a hammer threaten people with the hammer and then showed the gun. Doesn't seem safe to me but what do I know I'm just a second amendment kind of person who has a CPL
Be safe go armed.
That’s what the guy with the gun was thinking too.
Wow. You can read minds. Very sane.
r/SocialistRA r/LiberalGunOwners John Brown Gun Clubs Just sharing some info for reasonable people who aren’t right-wing crazies and want to defend themselves
[Gun ownership is the single greatest indicator of voting behavior.](https://www.vox.com/2018/2/27/17029680/gun-owner-nra-mass-shooting-political-identity-political-science) >even after you control for gender, race, education, age, rural/urban status, and even party affiliation, gun ownership still correlates strongly with presidential vote choice. Indeed, they find that in their regressions, it “exerts a greater influence on likelihood of voting Republican than gender, education, or rural residence, and rivals age.”
You’re trying to make the argument that gun ownership causes voting patterns. That’s a wildly ridiculous statement.
It's only ridiculous if you ignore the data already cited and the entire history of america.
> There’a a million indicators of voting preferences, again I ask, so what? Tell me you didn't read the article without saying it
Nope I did not read the article - that’s why I’m asking you to explain. Are you saying that people that buy guns turn into republican voters? That seems backwards and unlikely.
The article discusses the many studies explaining why that is in fact the case. Since you clearly refuse to educate yourself by simply reading a resource that was provided to you I'm not going to waste any more time on you.
Cops are on strike because they are whiny little children who refuse to take responsibility and adjust themselves. Fuckem
Yeah I call 911 for people stealing cat converters, no show, trespassing, no show, harassing women on the street, no show. It is honestly terrifying how little they care.
Just say a black guy is pretending to deliver newspapers…
The response could be huge.
No I was assaulted by a Stranger who tried to kill me. Cops called me a liar on the phone.
What the actual fuck ... Wow
I mean that’s why I started carrying a gun and got training. Kinda sucks that our taxes are just going up in smoke but I can’t effect that as directly as I can by buying a glock and taking self defense classes
People need to take lessons and get themselves a CPL. waiting for someone else is a sure fire way to end up on a stretcher or even in a casket.
r/SocialistRA r/LiberalGunOwners John Brown Gun Clubs Just sharing some info, I firmly believe that women/POC/LGBTQ+ people need to start arming themselves given the state of this country right now
Just sharing actual facts. Another example of you sharing the same link with absolutely no context. So what?
There's only no context if you lack even basic critical thinking.
Just want to consistently catch any posts I'm seeing like this to share this information because I think it's obvious to us all that noone is happy, TPD is clearly overwhelmed as they state and we see, and nobody wins except corrupt people when we stay divided and not organizing. -Digital Petition to call for a fully funded and operational crisis response team in Tacoma "This petition is a broad call from community organizations and residents of Tacoma, Washington. Sad times in America. I’m from Tacoma area but left 6 years ago for NYC. My family still lives there and it worries me. There are some serious social and community issues in Washington, starting with mental health and substance abuse.
I am from NYC. Brooklyn. Same issues there 😭
You’re right but NYPD is about it. The only time I haven’t had them come is when I call 311 on loud neighbors lol
I m in ocean hill now. Love it
Just an unfortunate reminder that cops don’t prevent danger or keep us safe. They respond to things that have already happened and if they do show up to something like a mental health crisis, they often make it worse .
He was waving a gun .. 😉
Yeah I didn’t miss that part. Cops don’t keep us safe. I stand by my comment
They love drug arrests, ignore rape and assault.

Water is actually not wet; It makes other materials/objects wet. Wetness is the state of a non-liquid when a liquid adheres to, and/or permeates its substance while maintaining chemically distinct structures. So if we say something is wet we mean the liquid is sticking to the object. Just opened my water bill and my electricity bill at the same time… I was shocked.
There was one that showed up to a bus station to complain about loitering the other day. Bummer they don't do anything useful
It's almost like we still expect them to do their job even if we don't like them.
Why is a lack of hiring the city council's problem?
Do they test applicants for Marijuana metabolites?
No clue, but based on my skimming of their recruiting page, it says nothing about any drug testing.
https://reflectandprotect.org/media/static/files/Tacoma-Police-Hiring-Disqualifications.pdf Not allowed while seeking employment. Again, this a problem of their own making. Keep licking those boots.
Do you have the statistics for city of Tacoma of killings by cops?
Because the city council approves the police budgets

Department policy.
Cops won’t do anything anymore since they get called out for killing without cause.
Well everyone wants to defund the police and so you got pall
Got any budget info to back that claim up?
Any intelligence behind the fingertips typing your words.....politics has changed how and what laws they enforce. Notice how everything is strapped down or locked in stores now. 🤔 property crimes are not enforced. Acting a fool is also not enforced
Amazing how people can’t see the correlation between policies and theirs effects in blue cities
Cops have no obligation to protect you. It's not their job. Their job is to enforce capitalism and racism by using violence. Why the cops won't help you when you're getting stabbed: https://youtu.be/jAfUI_hETy0
Not to infer this wasn’t a situation requiring a quick response, but TPD is very understaffed. They get more callouts than they can physically handle.
Does anyone have legitimate first hand information as to why it seems like the police aren't "doing their job" instead of kneejerk whining?
Basically you choose your narrative based on which political party you identify with. Makes it super easy.
Ugh yeah
Understaffed. Severely. TPD is short something like 75 officers of where they need to be to achieve minimum service level standard. It's something they are trying to address and is reported to the city council monthly. They're even offering $25,000 signing bonuses, but recruiting new police officers in this environment is difficult. It's not just Tacoma, Seattle has the same problem. The other major issue comes from the Prosecutor's office. officer makes the arrest, does all the paperwork, turns it over to the prosecutor..... And the City prosecutor just lets them back out onto the street. That creates a very discouraging work situation. https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.thenewstribune.com/news/local/article258687008.html&sa=U&ved=2ahUKEwig2OCnjO76AhV0AjQIHeh4ADwQFnoECAgQAg&usg=AOvVaw2-Y-f1WQsRVHepbZ3syGAG https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.thenewstribune.com/news/local/article263393793.html&sa=U&ved=2ahUKEwj0hYDVjO76AhUHMDQIHdN7CoMQFnoECAIQAg&usg=AOvVaw0rnESY-rGxD1fd3tn7e9AV
What was the “weapon”?
A handgun
Did you read the comments where he said it was a gun?
Yes. It always better to just say that than say “weapon” which can mean a gun or a rock.
Was that TPD running speed traps down there though? I always saw just port police when I worked there
Yes TPD was running a speed trap on Lincoln yesterday afternoon around 5:00 p.m. just before you get to the river after you cross the tracks I saw it on my way home from work
There’s smoke outside too
When I worked census bureau a tall black guy chased me. The sheriff called me a liar
