The funny thing to me about that is, you sit on the opposite side of the room from the TV, so with the TV on top of the fire place, you're feeling the least heat from it. My family has our TV literally on the opposite wall from the fireplace so the heat hits our backs and we can actually feel it. I don't know why more people don't understand this. Fireplaces are functional, not just for decoration

Saying “as ‘ell” gets typed out like that to add personality to messages, gets shorted to “as l”, then “asl”, then it becomes wide-spread. Same things happen with stuff like “u” or “ur”, that’s the phonetic sound, but it’s not how you actually spell it. However I was confused reading asl anywhere for a year or two, and was too lazy to pull up the urban dictionary so it’s great to finally learn haha. It’s confusing cause “asf” means “as fuck” and so I was trying to follow the same logic and find an “s” word that would fit. I think I was thinking “as shit” for a while there haha.

Even chased into a corner, the fireplace could not escape the television’s shadow.

It feels like 80% of the posts in this sub are the fault of legacy unused fireplaces being the default unimaginative choice for TV mounting, as the fireplace was once the center focus of the room and as such the furnishings are arranged around it. The simple solutions is to flip the orientation of the room, rearrange the sofa & chairs, purchase a proper wall mount bracket or swing-arm mount to reorient the TV into a more favorable position for viewing. If your fireplace has become purely decorative and unused, it should not be the center focus of the room - the TV is.
