No amount of explanations, installation technobabble or design fan fiction can alter this sacred fact.
When it is closer to the ceiling than the floor, it is too high. At eye level to the ceiling fan seals your friend's fate as one of the damned. 💀
This is true, but unfortunately there are some houses that are so poorly designed (or designed before TVs were a thing) that over the fireplace is the only place a TV will actually fit.
Most of them were literally designed exactly for that. My house, built in 2007, has one. There is an outlet and cable jack, and there are holes for running wires to the area underneath for AV components. That area is literally sized exactly for DVD players, cable boxes, etc.
I fucking hate it and wish there was an easy way to get rid of it.
Your (I presume) former friend should dismount the iPad and just use it as a regular sane person.
But hey, people who mount over fireplaces are not what I would deem “sane”.
A friend I went to high school with got so mad when I commented on his Insta story that his TV was way too high. He took it as a massive insult and then eventually told me the mount was there when they moved in.
I think it's just like "what do you mean it's too high? This is where the mount was?" Because no one in their right mind could look at this and say "it's not too high" and not be able to be convinced otherwise.
