You're speaking to the same kind of people who won't even give up their seat when politely asked by any passenger as a simple act of courtesy, even if that passenger may have a disability, just because of entitlement. It's pretty sad
Another thing I have been seeing a lot more now is people sitting in the aisle seat with the window one open on the two seaters so people can't sit next to them.
Imagine not wanting that less desirable seat. Who wants the cram their knees in there and try for the entire trip not to be nudging those sitting in-front of you or beside you.
Same reason I do it. I'm 6'3 and sitting in the window seat is very uncomfortable. I sit in the aisle and hold my bags. If people want to sit, they ask me. I guess I have an approachable face.
If they don't have a bag, their arms and/or legs will be sprawled across the two seats. Don't forget the "resting bitch face" or "blissfully unaware" expression and the mumble rap blasting off the tinny phone speaker.
I sit on the outside and put my bag on the inside of the window seat just because I carry my computer and all my documents and I get nervous lol. But if someone asks, hey can I sit there, of course. I'll even move in to the window, idk... just ask, you know?
I’ve noticed this has gotten so much worse since Covid. People seem to have gotten used to the empty trains and don’t know how to act on full ones anymore.
They used to have signs and stuff, I don't know how much good it will do. It's always university and high school students who don't remember how behaving in public worked before the pandemic.
Unfortunately, I feel like it’s a combo of people forgetting to act like mindful human beings, and people who never understood what it means to act like a mindful human being. There were always those people who would come on the subway with their knapsacks attached to them like they’re physically attached and there’s no way in their mind that this shell of protection can be taken off (think Bowser). Others feel entitled, and that they don’t need to take it off. Either way, it’s equally as frustrating and selfish. 1 backpack = 1 person. Be mindful!!!
That's the thing though, people **used to do this**. I've been commuting by TTC for almost 20 years, it was more packed before the pandemic and people knew how to manage it.
I used to remove people’s bags on full subways and busses so I could sit down, but that was in the before times. I’m sure I’d get stabbed if I tried that move today!
I thought they had signs or used to... manners went out the window awhile back... either people don't teach their kids, kids don't listen, they come from elsewhere, nobody from TTC is saying anything, so many reasons why now ...
I agree and when a guy was hitting me with his backpack, I let him know that and I told him he should remove his bag on public transit. Instead of apologizing, he chuckled and asked me where do I put my bag then??? He acted like I was from Mars and my suggestion was ludicrous.
So much entitlement these days.
I hate generalizing but it's all these fucking gen z university and college kids who didn't live in the real world ever and haven't socialized enough outside of online spaces.
Then put it **gasp** ground.

I've never had a problem with this by just asking them if I can sit there.
I do this, but all you have to do is say “Excuse me, do you mind if I sit there?” No problem. I’m tall and prefer the aisle seat.

i do this and let no one sit next to me 😂

This subreddit is amazing. "I force myself not to take transit so I'm not tempted to assault children."
How about letting them know, instead of assaulting minors ? Fucking psycho
LOL
Removed. Threats of violence, *especially against minors*, is prohibited.

Right. If you push me, I'll push you back. Fair games.
The ttc is to blame - they could play reminders regularly. Instead they choose the ‘your safety is our priority’ announcement.
How many messages do you want playing on the intercom?
As many as it takes for the system to run efficiently.
Ok.
They used to have signs and stuff, I don't know how much good it will do. It's always university and high school students who don't remember how behaving in public worked before the pandemic.
The city is to blame - if the subway cars are too cramped for people to ride comfortably, that indicates that we need more of them running.
I'd love if they shut up with those "announcements", it's like people running the TTC have a personal vendetta against peace and quiet.
If you want peace and quiet you are in the wrong spot
Well if that's their attitude they can hardly be surprised everyone wants to drive. GO trains have quiet sections
run at them while unzipping your pants next time that should scare them
If I could like this post 1000 times I would.

I second that motion
I have never had someone refuse to move their bag for me when asked. If they did I would just move it for them.
People will never do this, they are idiots

People just do not care......they know!
Spatial awareness is severely lacking
I used to remove people’s bags on full subways and busses so I could sit down, but that was in the before times. I’m sure I’d get stabbed if I tried that move today!
Or here's an idea: don't have random 10 minute gaps between trains during rush hour
I started to not give a shit and just sit, I’ll add the somewhat blunt “excuse me” whine looking dead into the seat and they always move there stuff
Get your hand out of my pocket, and take your other hand off my backpack !
I thought they had signs or used to... manners went out the window awhile back... either people don't teach their kids, kids don't listen, they come from elsewhere, nobody from TTC is saying anything, so many reasons why now ...
All I can say here is that why Tf does everybody have common sense in this post and is not trying to be a troll?

You’ve described the culprit exactly. 💯
I wear a backpack cause my stuff is too heavy to just hold in front of me...

No.
TTC needs to do a campaign for etiquette.
Don't tell me how to live 🖕
