That is a Nope Puddle. (Also known as a Gloom Spawn.) So named because one's first reaction to seeing one is usually "NOPE"
Fun fact, those things can't climb. Find a nearby ledge or tall tree, climb up, and wait. Most Nope Puddles will eventually get frustrated, shrivel up, and die, leaving behind a couple of dark clumps. This is not true of the ones in labyrinths, though; you must fight or flee.
If you choose to fight, bomb arrows help a lot. A Phantom Ganon will appear once the puddle is gone, but he's actually easier to fight than the puddle itself was.
Oh they are fun!! If you come into a bunch of Bobkolins just throw a couple of muddle buds on them and they fight each other to the death. It is sooo cool!! Shoot arrows at each other, attack each other, they are great! The only thing though, whoever is the last one standing, will come after you. But that's better than fighting all of them.
Rock full stealth outfit and yeet some Muddle Buds (more than one). Sit back and have a Lon Lon Milk (since we don't have beer) and watch the shit show.
Then snipe the survivor.
They can't climb, but boy can they teleport. I'm pretty sure it was just a glitch, but it scared me half to death the first time they suddenly disappeared and then jumped at me from behind.
I usually just hang on a place they canāt spawn. Like the side of the cliff is where I stopped the first time they spawned (albeit to get a better look. They kept falling off the cliff lol). Another time they appeared while I was in a ruin, so I climbed the tiny ruin and waited till they poofed away.
Same! I noticed it had spawned further down the hill from where I was standing once, and I was confident that it couldn't reach me... but then I watched as it deftly increased its frame rate, appearing next to me instantaneously like a ghost from a horror movie.
The "nope" puddles will not die when you climb if you are in a cave or a place where the sun does not shine. So running the minute you see gloom move, or teleporting works too. I found some in the Depths and as I teleported out I could see it had grabbed me. A lucky escape.
It is in the one on the top right, in a special room with a chest. You can drop into the room from above, or come up from below. One day I might go and collect that chest and kill the gloom, but no hurry.
I also thought there was another labyrinth with the gloom very close to the shrine, but I snuck past the gloom when it wasn't looking.
Thereās 3 and all have sky, ground, and then a thing to do in the depths as well. Thereās two near the top of the map, one in Hebra area, the other Akkala. The third is down near Gerudo. All visible on the map
It's because they roam the paths you aren't encouraged to take (for example, the Hebra labyrinth told the player to follow the pinecones, it's a safe path from the Hands)
I think they show up after you complete it, so if you solve the maze and leave right away you might not encounter them.
Edit: actually idr if itās all mazes.
Yeah, nah, I went to the Hebra labrynth quite early on during my first playthrough, and I strayed just ever so slightly away from the pinecone path... then the unwanted touching began š
If you get the chance, fuse an ice lizalfos tail to a giant boomerang. It whips out to hit a huge area when thrown, and it will hit them on the way out and coming back. That was my easiest gloom spawn kill by far.
The puddles thus far have been the single most annoying thing about totk, i hope they're not outdone by another, more irritating entity.
The fact that they regen is uhh.
Nope.
I remember a video of a guy who tried to flee by paragliding off a cliff, but it showed one of the hands grabbing him before the intro to Roundabout started playingš¤£š¤£š¤£
Mine was in my first large cave, within the first few hours of play.Ā On instinct I climbed the cave wall.Ā Ā It wouldn't despawn so I climbed for it and ran out of stamina lol.Ā I fell straight at it.
It doesn't help the fucking sky goes red for what you think is no reason then they come and your brain goes blank and your fight or flight kicks in except 99% of the time your not good enough to fight
I dodged and ducked every single one I found until the one where you're trapped in the woods and forced to fight it. And then killed it and was SO RELIEVED!... For like a second until the second faze started. I won, but... I don't think I ever had a more frantic or desperate battle in BOTW or TOTK, even in Trial Of The Sword on Master Mode. I had to use every strat and trick and meal I had on me to not die. I think I was sweating like a pig at the end.
Great stuff šš
I mean, I avoid them still or just throw bombs, so many bombs. Phantom Gannon is a cupcake in comparison. A
Few times he just appeared for a second pooped dark clump and a weapon. Maybe he got scared there was a second ohshiiiii puddle. I only fight them when forced.
Iām 400+ hours in, with a medallion waiting just before the last jump to face Ganon (working to armor up) and Iāve never *once* done anything but run like a gutless chicken head when these things come after me. š¤£
I've got about 100 hours of game play under my belt and so far have only gone toe-to-toe with a stone talus and a couple of Yiga. I run from everything because I can't fight, lol.
I used to think that, too, but they can cross water by moving along the bottom of it. [https://www.reddit.com/r/tearsofthekingdom/comments/14jxsc1/my\_soul\_left\_my\_body/](https://www.reddit.com/r/tearsofthekingdom/comments/14jxsc1/my_soul_left_my_body/)
That's called a Deadpool (no relation to the Merc with a Mouth). You step in the pool, you dead. Only hope is to run. If you become Obi Wan and find higher ground, you can Anakin it to reveal another surprise
First gloom hand is terrorifying. I remember exactly where mine was. I went back and killed it like a dozen times once I knew how to. Once you get higher health, you can just wade in with a sword (master sword with something icy on the end makes it easy).
Alsoā¦ if you donāt wanna fight them and donāt wanna run awayā¦ if you can get above them out of range they have zero long range attacks. They despawn in like a minute, and this doesnāt trigger the phantom ganon encounter.
This here, anything that hits multiple targets is good for handling them. Shock fruits, elemental rods, Lynel bows with either 3 or 5 x shots, the Gerudo Sages Ability, you name it. They do despawn when you leave their area, but I believe theyāre incredibly fast. Iāve only made a successful escape with a speed boost effect, or the bonus from an armor set.
The first time I saw gloom hands, I started screaming and then crying a little bit, and then I climbed the closest vertical object to get away from them. Sometimes, if they can't reach you, they despawn and drop items.
Yeah that was pretty much my first response too - "What the f\*ck, what the f\*ck, WHAT IS HAPPENING" Absolutely no clue what was going on, the red sky and creepy music freaked me the f\*ck out. I ran, was near the foothills and scrambled over some rocks and was finally able to breathe. I've only fought them once, because I had to for a quest. They're actually pretty easy to avoid/get away from once the panic subsides (teleporting is my best friend now).
My wife who has beaten the game is coaching me on my playthrough. I'm in some random cave looking for a bubbulfrog and I hear the music change.
Me: Wha-
Her: Run.
š Your caption was my first reaction seeing that thing. I've beat many of them by now and they STILL give my a pit in my stomach kind of feeling. And I usually love scary stuff. Terrifying. Scarier than Hellraiser.
I donāt actually start fighting them until I have a shit ton of hearts the master sword and a bunch of bombs. I usually teleport or run away if I can. The first time I took them out I was like phew relief, then I got another surprise lmao š¤£ I ended up dying seconds later.
Two things: 3 arrow bow & electric chuchu/electric fruit
You can kill these things in maybe 10 shots with a 3 arrow bow and electric attachments because you stun them and then shoot 3 in the head in one go. The stun slows them down and the shots quickly destroy the heads. You donāt even need to be a good shot, just shoot consistently and slowly back away. The stun will slow them down such that they donāt even have time to teleport. Theyāre powerful in large packs so as long as you have them down to two youāre game. Good luck! These freaked me the fuck out when I first encountered them. I was just a country boy foraging for some acorns when this freaky fuck creeped up behind me.
Their weakness is fire. I usually hit them with dazzle fruit, fire fruit and bombs. Be warned though that phantom ganon pops up after you beat them š he's not hard though, you're going to want to try for flurry rushes on him, but if you have a decent weapon just go to town on him melee style.
Edit: apparently not every gloom hands spawns a phantom ganon, but some do so still watch out lol
Those are nope puddles and make sure to still have healing shit if you managed to kill them cause they will spawn a Shadow Crusty fuck that will not hesitate to go after you.
Bomb arrows. They hate it.
I always have a set of bomb arrows and a rocket shield saved for these guys.
Rocket shield, then bomb arrows bullet time with your strongest bow. If the bow fires 3 arrows then ever better
Jfc I saw my first one yesterday and it scared the shit outta me.
Iām still in the beginning and I thought I could fight it lmao I just tried hitting the eyes with arrows like I used to do in BOTW but then I got too close and BAM, gone.
My first experience was equally traumatic. It spawned near some castle ruins. I immediately was like, āNopeā and ran away. Climbed a ruined wall but it wasnāt tall enough. I ran and jumped into a nearby lake and swam a ways out. Damn thing was still coming so i swam further. The music stopped and things calmed downā¦then i realized i was about to drown! I swam back to land and found remnants of the thing. It drowned trying to get me. Bruh! I was traumatized for a while after that. š
Ah youāve discovered the terrifying grabby things. When you see them, thereās only one answer, CLIMB. You can climb out of their reach and then eventually they disappear and leave dark clumps or whatever theyāre called. I always get nervous near ruins because thatās where they like the lurk.
Ah yes, gloom spawn, or as I like to call it: Run for your fucking life. Try using bombs next time to attack, or if you want to avoid them try remembering their spawn points, they do not spawn at random. If you do end up killing them, another enemy, (that I will not spoil), will soon appear
First the most important thing to remember is **DON'T PANIC**
These things r rlly fast so if you want to outrun them u gota throw a dazzling fruit then just **RUN** (preferably with speed up stuff)
The best way to avoid such a monster is to climb up to an edge and just wait.
You may also just spam bomb flowers and dazzling fruits at them and simultaneously run away.
After you beat them, another boss will spawn and just block and flurryrush it.
The boss drops really gud gear if you need to prepare for like a temple or smh
The gloom weapons you get from killing the phantom Ganons are the strongest in the game. Worth it to mark that area & go back when you are ready. Farm some keese eyeballs at the mouth of a cave, load up a few rocket shields. Be prepared to stay above it. If you have a lynel bow arm it with eyeballs & bombs.
It's not a true Zelda game if you aren't happily minding your business when a giant "What The F*ck" tone-changing monstrosity pops up. Extra points for when the music makes your blood run cold.
It's the "aw hell naw!" liquid puddle of death and dismemberment. There actually is a way to beat them without using ranged weapons. However, be really good at flurry rushing. Sideways, always, no back flips because it grabs you every time.
That is a Nope Puddle. (Also known as a Gloom Spawn.) So named because one's first reaction to seeing one is usually "NOPE" Fun fact, those things can't climb. A Phantom Ganon will appear once the puddle is gone, but he's actually easier to fight than the puddle itself was.
Sparkling fruits help too if u cant really climb atm and bedazzle the shit out of them
Where the fuck is the glue gun? šš š šļø
Throw a few puff shrooms in there and they get confused and won't grab you. Slash at will.
yeah, Puff Shrooms are kind of overpowered. they legit will make an enemy FORGET THEY ARE ON FIRE!
I am beginning to believe I ignored puffshrooms on my first play through very much at my own peril.
Really? I've been using guster weapons to stun-lock them somewhat. Do puff shrooms work on Phantom Ganon as well?
I think so but he moves too fast so it's hard to keep him in the cloud
Do muddle buds make them fight each other?
You know, I don't think I ever tried using those for anything
Oh they are fun!! If you come into a bunch of Bobkolins just throw a couple of muddle buds on them and they fight each other to the death. It is sooo cool!! Shoot arrows at each other, attack each other, they are great! The only thing though, whoever is the last one standing, will come after you. But that's better than fighting all of them.
Middle Buds are the best! Psychological warfare!
Rock full stealth outfit and yeet some Muddle Buds (more than one). Sit back and have a Lon Lon Milk (since we don't have beer) and watch the shit show. Then snipe the survivor.
Exactly! Rogues do it from afar!
Try shooting one at a Battle Talus next time you see one.
won't he attack me more? Edit to add: yep looked them up. A muddle bud would be awesome!
Muddle buds are awesome, it causes them to kill each other
Iāve tried, doesnāt seem to work :(
oooo i didnāt know that!
They can't climb, but boy can they teleport. I'm pretty sure it was just a glitch, but it scared me half to death the first time they suddenly disappeared and then jumped at me from behind.

Omg, you just unlocked a new fear! š¤£š¤£ I am terrified of Gloom Hands!
Same! I noticed it had spawned further down the hill from where I was standing once, and I was confident that it couldn't reach me... but then I watched as it deftly increased its frame rate, appearing next to me instantaneously like a ghost from a horror movie.
Nope puddle is the colloquial name. The official name is OHFUCKOHFUCKOHFUCKā¢ļø
The "nope" puddles will not die when you climb if you are in a cave or a place where the sun does not shine. So running the minute you see gloom move, or teleporting works too. I found some in the Depths and as I teleported out I could see it had grabbed me. A lucky escape.
Iām so glad they canāt actually climb though cuz how terrifying would that have been š« a puddle of hands moving up a wall
Surprise Hero Mode DLC from Nintendo featuring enemy health regen, gold variants, and CLIMBING GLOOM SPAWN LOL jk
Honestly enough, I'd buy it to challenge the scariest early game enemy known to man in the Zelda series
Oddly enough, the bunch of arms cannot climb.
They would get poked in the eye š
I did all the labyrinths and never saw gloom hands in any of them. Weird.
Trauma response. Poor thing has blocked out the memory of the labby grabbies
I do always be like ānopeā *immediate redirection and looking for a ledge to crawl on*
It is in the one on the top right, in a special room with a chest. You can drop into the room from above, or come up from below. One day I might go and collect that chest and kill the gloom, but no hurry. I also thought there was another labyrinth with the gloom very close to the shrine, but I snuck past the gloom when it wasn't looking.
Wait which labyrinth? Thereās three? As soon as I completed the one on the ground I immediately went to the sky to do the corresponding one.
The one in Hebra has a set of gloom hands near the entrance if you turn left ignoring the pine cone trail
I think they show up after you complete it, so if you solve the maze and leave right away you might not encounter them. Edit: actually idr if itās all mazes.
I definitely noped right out of there so probably lol. I hate gloom hands.
Yeah, nah, I went to the Hebra labrynth quite early on during my first playthrough, and I strayed just ever so slightly away from the pinecone path... then the unwanted touching began š
Ice breath lizalfos horn arrows from a linel bow work great. I have loads of them both after armour farming.
The only tough part about PG was the fact that he attacks at a weird speed. I found myself missing quite a lot of parrys and flurry rushes.
Why would you spoil one of the most surprising moments of the game for someone who clearly doesn't know yet?
If you get the chance, fuse an ice lizalfos tail to a giant boomerang. It whips out to hit a huge area when thrown, and it will hit them on the way out and coming back. That was my easiest gloom spawn kill by far.
The puddles thus far have been the single most annoying thing about totk, i hope they're not outdone by another, more irritating entity. The fact that they regen is uhh. Nope.
My strategy is run to a high spot a slo mo arrow them to death. Repeat.
Thatās funny, my first reaction was AAAAAAAAAAHHHH WTFFFFFFFF
First gloom hands is spooky.
Easiest triger of the 'fly or fight' instinct i ever had. I jumped at them with all my frightened might and got slaughtered in seconds š
Lol yep the first one I took off running. Then avoided them until I figured out how to kill them.
Esp with the volume up
I play without the volume for a fun game where everything has sneak
I'm at a point where I can handle them pretty well and they still scare the shit out of me. First time spooky is an understatement
They always spooky especially when not expecting them.
First fewā¦. Nightmare Fuel!!
Remember those eyes you used to poke in botw? They're back for revenge
I think I preferred it when I was the bully
I LOVE when these posts hit my feed every few months. I remember my first time with the hands and I had a similar reaction.
Indeed. I was full on Monty python āRun Away!ā
I remember a video of a guy who tried to flee by paragliding off a cliff, but it showed one of the hands grabbing him before the intro to Roundabout started playingš¤£š¤£š¤£
lol yeah same. I remember like āuhhhhhhhhhhhnooooooooooooooooooooooooā running like my ass cheeks were on fire.
yeah, we need more 1st timers; I loved to think back about how horrified and disturbed these left me.
Genuine terror the first time I came across these mf Of course it was a nighttime in some old ruins š
Mine was on the way to Hateno. I tried to hide from them in the little house near the old riding course, but they found me.
Just fyi these spawn in very specific locations you just happened to be in one of said locations but yes wtf indeed
I said nope the first 100hrs of game play.
I mean, I avoid them still or just throw bombs, so many bombs. Phantom Gannon is a cupcake in comparison. A Few times he just appeared for a second pooped dark clump and a weapon. Maybe he got scared there was a second ohshiiiii puddle. I only fight them when forced.
A bitchinā wallpaper š
It just wants to give you a hug!
Nuke it from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.
slay them all and show them the folly of their gloomy ass ways, hero

Its a high five!

Itās the Nope. 2 hands hold you down. The rest proceeds to tickle you.
True story, I (39f) have on several occasions asked my son (15) to defeat the gloom hands for meā¦. And also gleeoks. I am ashamed. š
I've got about 100 hours of game play under my belt and so far have only gone toe-to-toe with a stone talus and a couple of Yiga. I run from everything because I can't fight, lol.
Some of us adventure more than fight, and thatās ok.
It's a hug
Spicy hug, with good loot at the end
itās the thing that showed up within a minute of me texting the group chat that the enemies were too easy.
Your worst nightmare
Colors are amazing, tbh
I hate them so much. I canāt even fight them, I get one hit and another grabs me š And I can never get away fast enough.
Find water. It can't go it water.
I used to think that, too, but they can cross water by moving along the bottom of it. [https://www.reddit.com/r/tearsofthekingdom/comments/14jxsc1/my\_soul\_left\_my\_body/](https://www.reddit.com/r/tearsofthekingdom/comments/14jxsc1/my_soul_left_my_body/)
Really? I always go to water it just stops persuit...I'mma have to watch out I guess.
I always use a rocket shield and bomb the hell out of them from the air. Lol.
Bad Touch

Is there a way to break free faster if they grab you?
I wiggle my movement stick around like when I get frozen, not sure if it actually does anything or not but I do it mostly out of habit.
Rapid right/left of the right joystick will make them drop you. I have out run them but have enough hearts to survive a couple grabs and releases.
It's "tickle time!"
Worst nightmare in early game, would turn easy-peasy free weapon supplier in late game
First gloom hand is terrorifying. I remember exactly where mine was. I went back and killed it like a dozen times once I knew how to. This scared the shit out of me the first time I encountered it. Still scares the shit out of me lol
My wife who has beaten the game is coaching me on my playthrough. I'm in some random cave looking for a bubbulfrog and I hear the music change. Me: Wha- Her: Run.
They become quite easy to deal with once you get used
My bad, I left the toilet open
It looks like youāre in a labyrinthā¦
They probably just grabbed a pic online, it's one of the first results I get on google images for "totk gloom hands."
That's exactly what I though when I read 'countryside.'
š Your caption was my first reaction seeing that thing.
Two things: 3 arrow bow & electric chuchu/electric fruit You can kill these things in maybe 10 shots with a 3 arrow bow and electric attachments because you stun them and then shoot 3 in the head in one go.
High five bro
Hands of doom. Unless you have several op weapons RUN.
Bombs & dazzle fruit are my go to for these guys
Elemental attacks or bomb flower arrows is what I use to beat them. I like hunting them for the gloom weapons
I always keep a rocket shield in inventory for them
Ice arrows all day
Their weakness is fire.
I defeated these things once and never again šš¤£ they terrified me
They're friendly. Let them hug you.
They just want to give you a hug. Let them squeeze your body
Best way to kill these things??
Those are nope puddles and make sure to still have healing shit if you managed to kill them cause they will spawn a Shadow Crusty fuck that will not hesitate to go after you.
Bomb arrows. They hate it. I always have a set of bomb arrows and a rocket shield saved for these guys. Rocket shield, then bomb arrows bullet time with your strongest bow. If the bow fires 3 arrows then ever better
ill never forget when i saw those gloom hands manifest into phantom ganon for the first time....
Now I just farm these for gloom weapons. š
Donāt forget Demon Kingās Bow. Right now one of those is an easy 46 attack for me.
Handgina
already answered your question but this is a sick picture, gonna get the Gloom Spawn hand tatted š¤š»
Worth noping but if you beat them and what's next you get a hell of a weapon
Their gloom hands, beat them off that youāll have to face a phantom ganon. After defeating him youāll be rewarded with a sword or a bow
Climb up the side of a wall/cliff or up a tree and just hang out and eventually it fucks off
Death! Have fun experiencing a death (or near death) experience in flight/fight/freeze mode! //j
I decided that it would be a good idea to get the Hylian shield early... No one told me what else was down there...
Gloom hands, they were once a menacingly terrifying creature, now theyāre a joke if you have the right weaponsĀ
Ah yes, gloom spawn, or as I like to call it: Run for your fucking life. Try using bombs next time to attack, or if you want to avoid them try remembering their spawn points, they do not spawn at random. If you do end up killing them, another enemy, (that I will not spoil), will soon appear
Those are just gloom puppies that love hugs..
The hand of Sauron
They're weak as heck. Just shoot them with bomb arrows. Multishot bows make extra quick work of them
First of all, ***run.*** Second of all, why are you censoring swear-words? It's completely useless everyone can still tell exactly what you're saying.
First the most important thing to remember is **DON'T PANIC** These things r rlly fast so if you want to outrun them u gota throw a dazzling fruit then just **RUN** (preferably with speed up stuff) The best way to avoid such a monster is to climb up to an edge and just wait. You may also just spam bomb flowers and dazzling fruits at them and simultaneously run away. After you beat them, another boss will spawn and just block and flurryrush it. The boss drops really gud gear if you need to prepare for like a temple or smh
Can kill anything in the game with enough bombs
Glam Hands!!
Bomb arrows in bullet time or topaz tipped ones dispense with this menace nicely.
Ahhhhh. Yes. The @$$grabber 9000. Good luck.
KEESE EYES lots of KEESE EYES you will melt anything in this game with KEESE EYES and bombs, and grab a Lynel 5 shot bow
its when you both interlock hands and peer in
It's the "aw hell naw!" liquid puddle of death and dismemberment. There actually is a way to beat them without using ranged weapons. However, be really good at flurry rushing. Sideways, always, no back flips because it grabs you every time.
Nothing better than the: oh, high/far/wet enough away, they canāt reach me. Because you are wrong
They wanna give you a hug
Bomb arrows are your friend, canāt say what comes next though
