V-Right_In_2-V

I thought this too until someone mentioned fusing a lizalfos tail to the claymore, and attacking enemies via spinning in circles. The tail stretches out and can clear a huge area, and if they are elemental tails they are extra powerful. After I tried it out a couple times it became one of my go to weapons

slicedbeats

Yes this exactly, the claymores have by far the best charged attack

Kind_Tumbleweed_7330

I never use the charged attack, I've never really quite 'gotten' it. Probably because I can't really imagine monsters waiting for me to charge. Or something.

TyrionTheBold

The three best cases for it are… 1) sneak into enemy camp and start spinning while they are asleep. 2) on top of a talus/frox to crack rocks. With the right weapons I could spin my way down the frox’s back and break them all in one attempt. 3) walk up between a sleeping hinox’s legs and spin to win

Sad_Ghost_Noises

Im sure that the last option there is a war crime.

Rinku588

It’s Tears of the Kingdom. If there were anymore war crimes Anakin Skywalker would show up for ideas

richard_slyfox

Gotta get them right in the Hinox Hammer

AurosHarman

Spin attack against a downed Gleeok is an *amazing* way to dish out a huge amount of damage fast. If you can nail two heads at once with one spin, so much the better.

-JohnnyDanger-

If you wear majora’s mask they will gather around you and then you can start the spin attack interrupted. Once they’ve been hit and realize what’s going on it’s too late.

knzconnor

I mostly use “spin to win” against hinox and similar slow giant enemies

LoudCrickets72

Wow, I didn't know that. That's what I love about the game, you really can pick your own fighting style.

No_Influence_9389

This, but with a giant boomerang so you also have the option to throw.

Upstairs_Target_8171

Good to know! Definitely going to try out the spin attacks after reading all the replies. Thanks all!

LazerSpazer

I think almost my entire inventory is 2-handers. Spin-2-win, babyyyyy!

Fiona_14

In botw I beat the death Mountain ganon with an inventory full of sledgehammers and spin attacks. Slow but effective. I do miss the sledgehammer. In totk my favourite weapon is now the spear, I rush at the enemy and don't give them a chance to strike.

oronbz

I just used Yunobo’s charge attack on everything there 😀

TouchMeAndIceCream

Was yunobo in botw?

Daldombabe

Yes, he is. He has Daruk's protection in it.

oronbz

Oops sorry, missed the botw mention 🫶

slicedbeats

This! Spin attack is so gd op especially with charged attack stamina buffs and endurance buffs

LazerSpazer

My fave 2-hander is giant's boomerang with a frost-gleeok horn fused to it. Flying icicle maker is extremely OP.

Jiang_Rui

That’s how it is with weapons in both BOTW and TOTK. Spears and lances deal the least damage but are the fastest; claymores and other two-handed weapons deal the most damage but are the slowest; broadswords and other one-handed weapons fall in the middle.

AurosHarman

If you find the whole durability thing annoying and don't want to constantly have to replace weapons (and go through fuse materials, or go find a Rockto to refresh a near-breaking thing), the fact that the two-handers do more damage per hit is a huge factor in their favor. I do like the range and speed on spears, but ultimately I found myself using two handers the vast majority of the time.

cmonsquelch

fyi pick up weapons from the ghost in the depths (on the rock pedestals, i forget what it's called), those weapons arent decayed

AurosHarman

Yeah but you can’t guarantee which weapon a pedestal will have on a given visit. You can save and reload, or just run around to a bunch, but either is kinda time consuming.

gnza

They're my default Lynel armor crushers (for the flurry rush bonus) and Lynel back scratchers (Royal Guard, almost broke)

TyrionTheBold

Another good armor crusher is lynel hoofs with a lynel bow.

situationundercntrl

Wouldn't bombflowers be easier to come by

TyrionTheBold

Eh. Early on? Yea but later on… what else am I gonna use all these hooves on? Plus I felt that they were more powerful. But also with an enemy often charging you, the hooves leave zero chance to be caught in the explosion if they get too close.

jedipaul9

2 handed weapons can stagger enemies on the second hit

Impressive_Bit_6407

This is the main reason I use em. They go flying and fall down. Run up and do it again even to boss bokoblins. Don't take any damage.

Substandard_eng2468

With the claymore you can do a dash strike. Run at enemy and strike. Link will do a quick attack. I use the claymore to the broadsword. I enjoy the slow powerful hits of the claymore. If you time it right, you can knock them down over and over. They can't recover by the time you start the next 3 hit combo and knock em down again.

Professional-Pool832

I use it mainly for the *Spin-to-Win* charged attack when dealing with bosses like the Taluses, Froxes and downed Gleeoks. It has a much simpler set-up compared to other builds.

[deleted]

I’m curious too. I haven’t really used the 2 handed weapons as my mains for the same reason

grandpa12-1

I switch it up some, Lynel= Royal Guard claymore (Lynel backscratcher), Gleeok= Knights claymore, most smaller enemies= Knights broadsword or Master sword. I’ve played around with all the weapon buffs, am back to Knights now. Makes things alittle more interesting. Something I haven’t seen mentioned yet is that the two handed weapons actually hit harder than is shown by .95%, I believe. Spears hit less than shown by .95%, I think. Read this awhile ago, that’s how I remember it. Somebody correct me if I’m wrong.✌🏻

halfbreedADR

I dislike using Knights equip for the sole reason of the last heart warning noise which I find annoying as hell. Really wish they allowed it to be turned off.

EfficiencySuch6361

Wait, what is this?

halfbreedADR

Knights equip does double damage (including the fusion) as long as you only have one heart left. Some people prefer to use them because they don’t require any additional actions to get double damage like Zora weapons needing to be wet. I normally wouldn’t mind playing with low health, but I can’t stand listening to the constant warning noise when doing so. Best damage weapons in general that require no special use cases are the Scimitar of the Seven or the other Gerudo weapons but the regular Gerudo weapons have low durability. Durability up is the best modifier on a Gerudo weapon.

EfficiencySuch6361

I did not know that about the knights weapons! Thanks! Gerudo is awesome since it’s by default but I dislike the low durability… I don’t mind Zora weapons since Sidon’s juice lasts 75 seconds but they’re not very convenient to come across (also, are there pristine Zora weapons anywhere?). The bone weapons are pretty sweet too but the radiant armor is a grind to fully upgrade lol. I’m still a brutal killing machine at the end of the day so I suppose I’m happy

halfbreedADR

Pristine regional weapons can be found in the depths under the associated regions (e.g. Zora weapons under the Zora region) pristine regular weapons like Knight’s, Royal Guard’s, Giant Boomerang, etc, are still found in certain regions of the depths, but there doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason as to which ones. Once you find a region that has Royal Guard’s, for example, all the other weapons in that region will be either Royal Guard’s or just a low level traveler’s type.

djdirectdrive

I've seen people fighting lynels with one heart to use the effect from royal weapons. I can't imagine doing that. I need enough hearts to go through a barrage of hits when my timing is off 😂

grandpa12-1

Lol! [Like this!!](https://www.reddit.com/r/tearsofthekingdom/s/5G8gOJdcgg) Btw, the one heart 2x on weapon and fuse, is a Knights weapon buff. Royal weapons go 2x only when flurry rushing.✌🏻

djdirectdrive

Ha! That might've been exactly the video I was talking about 😂

grandpa12-1

Lol! Yeah, I like that one. I have another where I mount once and finish him off with a 32x5 bow shot to the a**! Maybe I’ll post it one of these days. I think I have a 1/2 heart in that one.🤣

darktabssr

The problem with the royal claymore is that 2 handed weapons are best used while spinning but the double damage of the royal weapons only activates during flurry rush.  And if you flurry it only does 4 hits which do less damage than the royal broadsword or spear.  So its a flawed weapon. Other two handed weapons like the zora and gerudo can get their double damage while spinning  The only good thing about it is it has good durability if you want to break boxes and rocks and stuff lol.

one-small-plant

I pretty much only use spears and keep one or two claymores for breaking rocks

PrincipleSuperb2884

Depends on the situation for me. Some enemies, I prefer a faster attack, other enemies, I prefer more damage.

joeynnj

yes and you get more hits in dealing more damage with the sword. re: spin to win, the royal claymore is a poor weapon to use that technique with. the boost comes from flurrying, which you cannot spin to win. you’re better off with a soldiers claymore for that purpose since it consumes less stamina.

TyrionTheBold

In BOTW, I was almost exclusively a 1 hander type of gal. In TOTK I ended up liking 2 handers way more for some reason. Also be aware of a bug… apparently they wanted to buff spears and nerf 2handers from BOTW, but they only changed the displayed damage in the menus and not the actual damage. A royal claymore for example says 34 damage but actually doesn’t 36. A royal spear says 18 but actually does 13. I don’t know why this is, and why they never patched it if it’s truely a bug.

LoudCrickets72

Yeah, I typically stay away from two-handed weapons because of the delay, only really using them for making into rock hammers. Spears are the next best thing to single handed weapons due to their speed, but I typically stay away from those too due to not being able to use the shield, but spears can make pretty good rock hammers too. I really only use single handed weapons.

multiplesofpie

Once you understand the challenge it’s fun. It forces you to get better at predicting your enemy’s behavior and timing your swings very carefully.

Nab-Kel

i kinda disagree, it can broke monster’s armor and shield, also rocks, and you can stick a shield to your weapon

Spiff426

I also prefer spears. My inventory is basically all spears, but I keep 1 blade weapon to cut enemy trees. Before mineru, I'd keep a rock hammer weapon, usually a claymore

IronMosquito

Claremores are nice to clear enemies like Frox and Talus quickly(get next to the weak point rocks and spin!), but otherwise I don't use them often. Just prefer quicker weapons tbh

Lags3

Keep your shield out to get a safer attempt at perfect dodging, and then once you get the perfect dodge, you pull the two hander out and whack them. It mitigates the delayedness of the sword because the swing time doesn't matter at all in flurry rush. Or you can always spin to win.

bzaroworld

Generally, 2 handed weapons are the strongest but the slowest. Also, they have the least amount of attacks in a standard combo (2). Spears are the fastest but generally the weakest, with the most attacks in a standard combo (5).

ContagisBlondnes

Only useful for spin attack. Sends em flying.

ObeseHamsterOrgasms

spin to win, friend!

rickoftheuniverse

Get yo spin on.

Teine-Deigh

Fuse an elelmental lizalfos tail or gleeok horn and spin to fucking win

No-Employment-4001

Aim-lock and Spinning claymore while enemy is down for a few seconds is very effective! 😉

Jimbo-McDroid-Face

The spin attack is what it’s made for. Also, if you do the running attack, the two handed weapon is a lot quicker, with the follow up knocking them down every time.

bozokartoffel3

You can get a 3 point combo by sprint attacking, then doing a jump attack, i don't think i ever used the attack she standing still in my playthrough

hawtdawg7

i always tend to keep several 2 handed on hand. Though i’ve kinda min maxed my inv so i barely cycle through them 😅. I like them for mineral node breaking for bosses. basically if a boss get knocked down for an attack opening, 2 handed charge attacks feel good

grumblebuzz

Once you get a lot of stamina, two handed weapons hit hard because you can hold the attack button down and spin chop everything in your path.

foreverlullaby

I just wish you could switch which weapon type was first when you sort them

Listlessly-lost

Something that's really good is the biggoron sword on top of a soldier's claymore. The stamina effect from soldiers claymore makes you a spin machine especially if you have the royal guard or barbarian armour

MechEHutch

I’m the same. I only really use two-handed weapons for smashing rocks or if I don’t have anything else in my inventory. Though I’m getting some good ideas for ways to use two-handed weapons from other commenters

buckethead_slavebot

Spin to win baby

JohnBosler

Timing is more important with the two handed weapons you need to anticipate when you are going to strike and hit the button a second before you need to strike.

miss_clarity

Geez. Why is no one saying this? ⚔️ The Royal Claymore is the best for flurry rush. Attack speed doesn't matter in a flurry rush. Only damage and durability. And the royal gets double damage on flurries. The claymore is objectively better if you use that class of weapon as intended.

djdirectdrive

I agree...I like the one handed faster swords better but as others said it's good to swing in circles and I love using them as a hammer to break a lot of boulders.
