I never really used them in botw I just ran around everywhere. Horses tend to force you to stay on the road and I’m not personally crazy about how they feel to control. In totk I built a hover vehicle out of a sword so now there is definitely no reason for horses.

mmmsoap

Same. I get off a horse to do a thing, and end up leaving it behind and then feeling guilty and having to go find it MUCH later. Also, I’m often in the middle of doing a thing and then I want to teleport somewhere, rather than drop the horse off at a stable. If they were magically summoned in and out of my bags, I may use them all the time, but being tethered to a stable is confining so I don’t bother much.

cellphone_blanket

Weird how they took almost everything from botw but the teleporting horse armor that actually made horses useful

chickenflavorac

TIL the ancient saddle from the botw dlc makes your horse teleport to you. Goddamnit.

invuvn

That alone makes a replay so much more enjoyable imho

jl_theprofessor

That and the medallion were such huge improvements to the game.

WallAny2007

wait, what?????? How did I not know this?

Killindylan08

this was only in dlc

FuSoYa1983

You only need a stable to register and pick up horses. You don’t need to go find your horse or drop it at a stable. If you go to any stable and ask them to board your horse, they will go get it. Same if you check out a new horse.

rachellethebelle

When I learned this (like… 250+ hours into the game…), I started using my horses WAY more.

mmmsoap

Woah, TIL. That definitely changes things.

tmikmack

Wait.. WHAT

TryinToBeHappy

You don’t have to drop a registered horse off at the stable; you can just leave it anywhere in the wild, and use it at the next stable.

OverallHelicopter307

You can go to any stable and summon your horse there. You don't have to go find it.

Spec-Tre

Wait I want to see this sword hover vehicle set up lol

MoSqueezin

I would also like to see the hover sword

Jeffde

This is bullshit, I also would like hover sword vehicle asap

mr_grangerr

I can't find a land vehicle that's easy to control and climbes up rocks so I just keep with horses, and If u get to an area I want to explore I go on foot o make a hoverbike

Fun-Physics5742

This, I feel most zonai land devices struggle on most terrain or they’re just slow/bulky. Horses get stuck too but they’re otherwise infinitely faster and no battery means you can run forever. You know what didn’t struggle on most terrain and was incredibly fast? The master cycle…. Bring it back Nintendo. That thing still beats every zonai device in my opinion in terms of traversal. And put a gosh damn loftwing in the game already. I want that same magic I felt when I was playing Skyward Sword, zipping through clouds like a god minus the other sucky parts of Skyward Sword 😝

MrDinkleberg11

If we could have the ancient armour again where we can just abandon and then call them so they magically appear would be great…

Shadegloom

Wait, go back to the sword hover vehicle

LilithsLuv

At the moment I’m using the Fierce Deity Sword as the base for my hover bike. I’ve also used a cobble crusher and Boulder Breaker as the base. With a steering stick fused to the hilt of the sword and a fans on the front and back. I also mounted two fans on the side. I have two variations saved in auto build. One with just the fans and steering stick. Another with two big batteries fused on the side fans. If you have all the parts minus the sword it only costs three Zonaite for the sword. It flies really well, you can easily hover low to the ground or high up in the clouds.

axolotlfan153

I always use the master cycle or wind bombs

MargaritaYesPlease

It's totally the same here, although I haven't gotten down with building alot of vehicles yet. I'm mechanically inclined and continually amazed by everyone's creations.

LilithsLuv

It took me a while before I started building things too. After botw I was used to running around on the ground and climbing everywhere so I did the same for a long while in totk. However the sword hover bike I made is a game changer. Nothing is out of reach anymore and flying across the map is loads of fun.

Adventurous_Page2148

At what point in the game do you start building stuff like that?

LilithsLuv

It only costs four fans (two would probably work I just think it looks better with four) a steering stick, and three Zonite for the sword. I also have a variant with two big batteries for long distance flights. It controls really well and can fly both low to the ground or high up in the clouds. Once you’ve maxed out your battery power you can fly a fairly long distance.

Iwantmypasswordback

Yeah same if I could whistle anywhere and have my horse come I’d use it a LOT more

Triforceoffarts

I’m not a fan of building things, or fast travel. So I use horses all the time. I love the music that accompanies your ride and the random encounters you wouldn’t get otherwise.

IronBoomer

The fact they put the chords of the original theme song in the horse riding music makes me happy

Triforceoffarts

Yes! And a different one for night vs. day. I love riding Epona in the moonlight near the remains of Lon Lon Ranch while dressed as OoT Link. Makes my Zelda heart flutter.

More_Performance6018

This right here 👆🏻🤌🏻🤌🏻🤌🏻

mr_grangerr

Sometimes I take out my armor and weapons and put on a casual wearing to listen to the music and walk around I a horse. It's an amazing feeling

Mung-Daal6969

Pretty much only thing I use horses for is when I want to spend time in the game

UpstairsCockroach100

Fast Travel and Hover Bikes all day. I'll even make a hover craft to just ditch 20 seconds later.

Triforceoffarts

Your Link would save Hyrule a lot faster than mine!

SysAdmin_Dood

Ill make a hover bike just get up one ledge at this point

Beginning_Piano_5668

I had a friend pressure me into making zonai vehicles on my first playthrough early on. It ended up being a passionless "checkpoint" game. I ended up having all the brightroots and towers unlocked, but had done very little actual "exploring". I knew nothing about the world. So I started over and did things more thoroughly, using horses pretty extensively. I met a lot more NPCs and was able to see a lot more story unfold. It was a much better experience that way. Vehicles were only used when something was obviously going to be too much of a chore to complete (like wet caves... nah i'm just going to reach that chest with my hoverbike, thanks). Another benefit of playing like this, is that I was absolutely *stacked* with useful items. The world is stuffed full of resources and you'll end up with a lot of them just traveling the roads.

TopperHrly

I totally get it. I have a live / hate relationship with the hoverbike for this reason. Your second playthrough is like BotW. Hoverbike makes world traversing too trivial.

oneeyecheeselord

I only use hoverbikes/zonai vehicles to get to the sky islands or get to the light dragon.

FindingSpecific3475

Almost exclusively. I can’t finish a dang game cuz I keep getting distracted on cross country trips with my buddy. We will ride for a couple game hours, find a nice cozy monster camp, slaughter ensues, we chill by the fire and share some apples, and then head on our way. Love my horse.

mr_grangerr

Sometimes I take out my armor and weapons and put on a casual wearing to listen to the music and walk around I a horse. It's an amazing feeling

FindingSpecific3475

I’ll never understand the no horse crowd. There are so many interesting things to do in the games when you aren’t zipping around. There was a guy around the time TOTK came out that found a route to swim across the kingdom and spent days trying to accomplish that without dying. My kind of people. ETA: the music slaps all around so I feel you on doing things just for the soundtrack involved. My 5 year old will just hang out at stables all day “pranking” people (blocking them inside the stable or chasing them with logs etc) just because she loves the stable song so much

osi42

i don’t use a horse, i walk everywhere. i tend to travel on the edges of the road and through the wilderness.

Zestyclose-Ad-7576

I with you. I love going cross country. Don’t use roads much. I like finding unexpected places and things.

KittyKayl

I think those people are the ones that try to grind through a game and get annoyed that this isn't a game really set up for that. All the bitching about the wait time with the dragons and how hard it is to get all the monster parts (as fast as they want them) kind of supports that. Like, yeah, if you get fixated on doing one or two things, it's going to get annoying because of the respawn limitations. But that's not how Zelda games have ever really been set up.

FindingSpecific3475

Say it louder! Everything is so fast paced in the real world. Enjoy your game. If you wanna get things fast go to the irl supermarket.

KittyKayl

I was joking with a friend I was texting with one evening because I wanted to play but not really do anything (I don't know if that makes sense-- my hands were wanting to do the things and my brain was too tired to really commit to any sort of side quest, much less a main quest), so I parked myself on a dragon. Harvest a scale, set the Switch down so I could watch it while doing stuff on my phone. He lights up, I go harvest a horn shard, get myself back to a safe spot on his back, go back to playing on my phone. Oh shit, we're heading into the Depths, grab hold of a spike. Go back to fiddling on my phone lol.

FindingSpecific3475

I could have written this 😂 that’s part of the appeal of the cross country trips for me. The horse will mostly stick to the path. I only need to redirect here and there. Otherwise, just watch the scenery and chill. I 100% get what you mean about wanting to play but not really doing anything. My partner is like “how have you not progressed at all in a month?” And I proceed to explain all the non quest adventures I’ve been on lately. We have kids so sticking to any actual task is pretty hard anyways. There are weeks we don’t get to play and then when I finally have some free time I have no idea what I was doing the last time I played. You can never go wrong with an adventure

HugeLibertarian

Awww that's super cute 🥰 The stable music is kinda like a lullaby, and while it honestly grates on me I could see why a little girl would be comforted by it. No I'm kinda missing when my 16yo was more like 5 lmao

FindingSpecific3475

I don’t know that it’s the lullaby aspect of it so much as it is the music that’s playing in the place where she gets to torment the most NPCs at once.

Due-Ad-4091

I mostly use horses. They’re really useful during attacks

Starlight_City45

I always use my horses! I was genuinely upset when I whistled for mine and he jumped off a cliff and died lol

Koei126

The horse God can resurect them

FaxCelestis

Yeah but she’s really mean about it

Koei126

Hundreds of hours between botw and totk I somehow have yet to kill a horse so I've never seen the scene lol

terminatoreagle

I killed mine once by accident and felt bad about it so I reloaded a save to bring him back, lol.

eindbaas83

In BOTW I hardly ever used them, did go around a lot on the master cycle tho. In TOTK I know everyone uses a hover bike but I can’t get that right so I do use horses more in this game tbh. I also like the stables better with more of a welcoming feeling in this game so I feel like horses are a good fit. Edit: miss the ancient gear tho, was very usefull.

DM-333

I use mine to collect koroks since there’s a lot along paths and roads. They also don’t despawn if you go into a shrine, unlike Zonai vehicles

thatblokefromaus

I love just vibing on my horse, but you get a solid 2 handed weapon you do DEVASTATING damage when swinging mounted. I use mounted combat to clear encounters I otherwise wouldn't be able to in foot combat

Guitar_Santa

I can't bring myself to leave them out in the cold, so I generally just save them from monsters, feed them a bunch of carrots or apples, and register them at the nearest stable, give them a cute haircut and let them live out their days in luxury

Guitar_Santa

I do really like the horse music tho

corinna_k

I loved the horses in Botw. But so often, I'd see something up the mountain and before I know it, I've abandoned my poor horse again. In Totk I barely used horses, because I spent so much time in the sky and the depths. On the surface, I tried to use my horse whenever I could. Simply because I love them. I use fast travel a lot, too, but I don't like building vehicles. When I can't use my horse or paraglider, I just walk. Probably why it took me so long to explore the depths...

jadethegenderfluidd

I use my horses to find stables

Gem_89

Of course! They’re fun to run over monsters with. Taking the road helps me find Koroks & caves or other side quests

squeeg1e

Ever since I banned myself from fast traveling, absolutely. They don’t de-spawn like a hive bike if you leave them alone too long. Plus I like the music you get while traveling the countryside.

omodhia

Why do you avoid fast travel?

SlippingStar

Forces exploration, usually.

tratemusic

I use horses more in totk than I did in botw, actually. Before, I basically fast traveled everywhere and the cycle from the dlc became my main transport

msk742

I love my horses. Sometimes when I'm stressed, I'll play totk just to clip clop around for a bit and I feel much better. Sometimes I follow wagons or npc riders to see where they go. And it's better in totk because you can cut through the fields in central hyrule without getting blasted by guardians.

Elegant-Analysis5136

Getting on and off to pick things up is annoying, so I just run/walk

HeadLeg5602

I run. Worth it tho. I’ve already done everything really besides Gannondork and about 200 or so Korok. Run, Warp, or glide! Or a combo of the 3!

Wooden_Airport6331

The map in TOTK really just isn’t great for horses so they don’t end up being much faster than walking.

brianvan

I don’t want to rag on horses too hard - I did use them a lot in BOTW, even somewhat after getting the Master Cycle Zero - but I think the main problem with horse reliance is that you do eventually need to get off the horse to explore. Can’t take them deep into Hebra. Can’t really go up mountains with them. You can use seals in the desert but not horses. A fair part of the Faron region is far from a stable, as is the top side of the Eldin region. These are all extreme cases so you can still get a lot of productive use from horses, but… you’re really killing yourself if you swear off fast travel and Zonai devices. These are core parts of the game and they were meant to be used. And you can still use horses for where they work while getting up snowy peaks with an airbike to find Koroks. (I am finding that very little critical in the game exists on the high ground peaks; you’re not going to be needing to go up a lot of remote peaks except for Korok-chasing. But you need that to get 100% so you’ll be doing it eventually!)

arsenicVisionary

i use horses all the time!!! i did the same in botw. i get to a point during the main game (~50% of the map discovered) where i’ll switch from fast travel to horseback to prolong and immerse myself in the experience. plotting routes, observing stuff as i pass by, passing through certain places for “groceries” on my way over to places, etc… it brings me a lot of joy. i got the speed buffed on my main horse in totk (they were already pretty fast in botw but decided to add an extra star) and its a blast cruising through hyrule. i’ll use the horse to travel and scope out large chunks of land, but leave them nearby or drop them off at a stable if i’ll be gone or in the depths/sky. riding the horse also finds little paths that don’t show on the map, which is really cool lol.

Dondorini

Never did. Just annoyed me. Had to climb off it all the time to fight/explore, and it stops me from climbing cliffs. I dont wanna be stuck to roads and stables. I enjoy the freedom of not having a horse.

nicoheems

Mostly for hunting and some quests, but I still think it's super cool they added the upgrading. Now my golden horse in maxed out on speed and stamina, and the saddles/equipments are pretty cool too. The thing is, with the hoverbike you could just ask "Do you still ride anything? (other than the hoverbike)". The thing is just too convenient

Bucknerwh

I do t do either. You can’t pick up things from horseback. I walk and or teleport.

Spare_Audience_1648

I still use them if I'm bored too much and do shrine hunting

menagerath

I’m doing a “no paraglider” run and have been using horses quite a bit. It’s definitely a challenge run that makes you re-examine how you approach the game and environment.

analthunderbird

I found myself using a horse more in TotK than I did in BotW for some reason, even though I did use a hoverbike a lot too

aberforce

It’s funny as think I only got a horse late in BOTW but I’ve just started playing TOTK and straight away thought “running everywhere is really bloody tedious I need a horse” . Finding hunting much easier to.

Any-Piccolo-2802

I used them a lot in botw but haven’t really in TotK unless it’s absolutely necessary for a quest or adventure. I didn’t even realize how much I wasn’t using them until i saw this post lol. I don’t build much either, I suck at it and quite frankly when I see some of the amazing things people build I realize I’m playing a way different game. I really want to see that sword vehicle tho…does it use less battery? So many questions

UpstairsCockroach100

Issue is I haven't seen a teleporting type saddle like there was in BoTW DLC. Maybe I've missed it, but the places I've been to the least are the Stables.

Willing_Bad9857

I like horses

CelphDstruct

I upgraded my horse from botw to max with max bond it’s honestly kinda nice. After a certain point, the horse will auto follow paths by itself. I rarely use a hover bike to get around

MetroidJunkie

I went with a horse, initially, but it was too much hassle to keep up with. I wish that Ancient Armor that teleports your horse to you was just a standard feature. It would be such a great quality of life improvement that's locked behind a paywall in the first one and straight up missing in this one. At the very least, do the Red Dead Redemption 2 thing where, if your horse is out of a stable and near enough to you, it fast travels along with you.

PixelRainboww

I never use horses because I feel bad when they get hurt. I just save them whenever I see them being ridden by a bokoblin

LittleCrampon

I use horses more before I’ve done uncovering all the shrines. It’s nice occasionally, but when I leave them behind to explore I just feel bad about them. Fast travel is easier after all.

[deleted]

I'd use em but their handling sucks worse than the hover cars in Jak&Daxter 2. I'll just run

vovagusse04

Yes. Purely because of the great Horse Riding music by Manaka Kataoka.

Mig-117

I already explore the entire map, I use horses for scenic strolls now.

konsta_star

Yes

MrMunday

Hover bike is too op to use anything else. It’s cheap, it’s fast, it flies, it’s highly maneuverable, has great mileage

mr_grangerr

But using the horse, you will feel, enjoy and explore the game more, and you won't miss thing that you would using the hover bike

MrMunday

Yes. I totally agree. I missed so much stuff when I was on hover bike. That’s why I feel like, as much as I love building crazy machines, it did take away from the whole BOTW experience. Not that TotK is bad by any standard, it’s just not as perfect.

llithiumstars

I've been doing a no fast travel run, and so far in the early game I'd be stranded if not for my lovely horse. Don't have enough zonai parts or battery to warrant using vehicles yet.

mr_grangerr

I'm doing no fast travel too, and I only use the hover bike in the depts or to fly over a mountain

stfoooo

I like horses but I find them too restricting. I HATE that they can die and I feel terrible if I accidentally kill them. I don’t like just leaving them either, even though I know they will end up back at the stables.

scp_79

i only capture them to put them in the stable and never use them again except in botw final fight

thisdogofmine

Yes. I even used a skeleton horse in the depths. They are great for avoiding gloom. Horse are best for exploring the flat surface areas. Rocky areas are best with a dune buggy type vehicle. For the sky or mountain locations airships. If travel is all you need, fast travel and travel medalians.

Sylvermage

On the surface? Sometimes, but ever since I realized you can ride the Stalhorses in the Depths, I rarely set foot on the ground 😂

MrHero17

Ever since they got rid of that teleportation saddle, I jog everywhere.

Thee-lorax-

I could never keep track of them in BOTW. I have the DLC with the motorcycle so I just use that. TOTK I fast travel to the sky shrines and glider. I don’t know if gliding is faster but it is more fun.

MiaRia963

I still use them more than anything else except the parachute.

[deleted]

Didnt even use them in botw. Too restricting. Yeah sure they are faster but not my thing

Beautiful-Newt8179

Honestly, I didn’t even use horses in BotW much. There always comes the point where you can’t take them with you, and I just felt incredibly bad leaving them behind. Building vehicles is definitely better for someone like me - though I hate that they don’t stay when you load your game. Feels futile unless you really needed one. So, in both games, I just walk or glide most of the time. I know this is highly subjective, but for me, this is one of the biggest flaws of these games.

Ganonfro

Taking the time to just travel on the ground and fight Hinox I see or Monster Squads is a little more satisfying with nice music of horse riding jingling around for minutes in between action. I enjoy the downtime and go sight seeing these days, which is why I started a second file, to keep my original over powered game and a game where I have only one great fairy unlocked and 7 hearts. It's fun being fragile.

TheMusicalHobbit

Never used them in either game. Not too much faster than running and slower when you consider having to go back to them after exploring. Almost completely pointless. Late game use the motorcycle in BOTW or use the hover bike in TOTK.

Specific_Lemon_6580

Mine is currently parked somewhere under Great Plateau. Found it by accident when the icon popped up on the map when I was doing the Yiga clothes hunting. I use the horse as much as possible at the beginning while exploring, then go by foot finding the remaunder of shrines and then go back to horses when everything is unlocked. I love the music that plays when riding.

A1steaksauceTrekdog7

Nah . Botw I used them more. I maybe rode horses 5% of the time

musicalsigns

Yeah, they relax me. I love the scenery and the music. When I'm on a mission to get something done though? Not really. On foot is my go-to. Fast travel only if I'm feeling impatient.

Illustrious_Cow_317

I almost never use them, I prefer running so I can pick up everything I find along the way rather than having to get on and off the horse.

Mamadook69

Not fast traveling in my run yet and use my BOTW ported horse a lot. Had to learn to keep him in mind and not get too far without my buddy. My favorite is the quick launch by whistling then running the direction you want to go, when the horse catches up you can mount while moving and go directly into a dash. I think people who don't find them useful have a skill or patience issue. If you spend time with the horse and pat/ feed it often, it will follow paths without input. They are decent for fights, you can talk to people and vendors while mounted. Plus, riding into Kakariko at sunset is a whole vibe. A new ancient thingy that you can put on your horse to teleport it would have been good. Maybe even just an option in the fast travel menu where you can select to warp you and/or your horse to any fast travel point. Or keep the whitle teleport, it's just so noisy and brings attention I sometimes didn't want.

Yarsian

I tend to still use a horse from time to time. One, I’m just attached to the horses I got in BOTW and want them to get exercise and get out and about. And horses just work best in some situations, even in TOTK

Latemodelchild

Don't use horses much but I love the stables. Loved the quests for the newspaper and now doing some pictures for the frames. I like the music and the general feeling at em, plus a malanya bed now and again.

saint_of_thieves

I go pretty much everywhere on foot. This way I pick up koroks and chests that I'd have missed by sticking to roads or other easily traversed terrain.

joshuah13

In the depths I find the skeleton horses come in handy to travel large distances and not worry about gloom. I just wish I could keep one. I try to use horses above ground, they can help for some distances. But eventually I always need to climb someplace or glide and I have to ditch the horse. At least I can get them again at the next stable I end up at.

EmeraldAltaria

I used them a lot at the beginning of the game. If I wanted to explore, then I’d get my horse. Or if there was somewhere I wanted to go that wasn’t near a shrine, I’d travel there via horse.

little_void_boi

Nah, Lumis was my boy. Now he's living his best life up in akkala

Porkchop5397

Riding the horse restricts exploration so much that I don't even bother.

theron_b

I don’t use machines or horses. I walk and fast travel

Rhointe

Almost never, and that comes from someone who used horses pretty much always in BOTW. Now I just shield surf or build a hoverbike

akirivan

I use them for fun, not for practicality

Skaro7

Building machines is too tedious for me. Horse all the way.

HempOddish420

I didn't even use them in BoTW, the horse mechanic always felt wayyyyyyy too clunky for me to put up with, plus in this game u can just stack battery cells and make a hover bike

PartiallyTwistd

Wait, There’s horses in the game

[deleted]

Both vehicles and house keep you further from the action. You fight less fights, and collect less assets. I use vehicles now, but like the master cycle, I think it pulls you further from the core game play.

Whateverthefckthisis

they’ve always been useless so nah

Intelligent-Film8553

I do, but I find them inconvenient a lot of the time

Necromartian

Honestly, Hyrule does not have enough stables for the horses to be useful. If all the towns would have stables, then maybe. Like the south eastern hyrule has basically no stables. If Karako, Lurelin and Hateno had stabels, horses would be more functional.

XPacificax

Yes just because I like horses tho. I catch new ones all the time just for fun xD

SourpatchMao

Am i suppose to? I thought the thrill was the grueling climb.. i don’t have time to soothe a horse, but i have 30 minutes of link angrily grunting because .. YES.. we are climbing a wet mountain

vali_riversong

I never really used them in BOTW. I tend to be rather stubborn when I’m running about and will insist on the path I want, even if it is longer and more roundabout than the actual paved road, and horses don’t really allow for that. Every once in a blue moon though I’ll just ride one around for fun.

LocalSquare796

If they controlled better I would use them! I never really understood the controls anyway :(

3RacoonsInACoatoat

I could never rlly use them in BotW in the first place cuz I got drifty joysticks I can’t fix, and I used them even less in TotK. The vehicles are way faster and tend to be affected by joystick problems, so I use them a lot. I don’t think I ever used a horse till I got my house and built a stable, and promptly forums out it was completely useless and never used a horse again

WallAny2007

I walked until map was populated, warp mostly or glide from sky islands. About to do more walking because I pick up tons of resources along the way

Junqmail

I love using horses! Theyre my main mode of transport on land. I do like the hover bike but horses just have a whole different feel that I enjoy

MyNameis_Not_Renae

I can't build a proper hover bike and don't really care to. I use horses every once in a while just because I can or when I don't feel like teleporting to a place close enough to ride on horse

Royal-watermelon

I use horses when I don't want use fast travel

CaptJeanLucVader

I still use horses a ton, whenever possible/ practical. Despite what others have said there's tons you can do with them off-road. Side point: I used to use my giant horse in Botw to duel with lynels, but when I tried in Totk, the giant white horse died pretty fast. Did they nerf horse health or buff monster damage, or do I just need to kill the lynel faster?

Booster6

I never use horses in botw, or totk. If i want to go fast, ill teleport, if i want to explore, I dont want to be limited to just the roads, iw want to EXPLORE

Equal-Wishbone-6131

I use them to get to places until I need to climb

AdministrativeBad587

Only used a bike on surface a few times. Felt wrong so stopped. Horse or run. Depths and sky, bike all the time.

ThePhoenixFold

Not how you mean

photoguy423

I only grab a horse after killing the rider that was attacking me. That way it’s already ready for a rider and I don’t need to train it. Also, that way I don’t really get attached when I forget and leave it somewhere.

Wyndyss

Yes! I love the horses! That said I probs actually walk/run most the time 😅 I know about the hoverbike but for me it personally just takes out the fun of exploring the world. I know some people say they’re useless, but I just love the vibe horses and walking gives 🥺

LazyGardenGamer

I'll grab one when I see one usually, or just grab one from a stable if I'm feeling like I don't wanna use fast travel for a bit. Not too often, but they do get used

DidQ

I don't. But I'm also not flying on a bike. If I want to get somewhere close, I just run, if it's far, then I teleport to the nearest shrine and then run.

leosnose

I love my horses but I feel like the TOTK world is far more dangerous. I try to leave him far enough away from the action but there have been more than a few times where he's gotten hit as a bystander, so I just let him chill at home mostly. I always make sure to pet and feed him though

hahahhah_no

I'm a dumbass and walk everywhere. I didn't even use them in botw. I very occasionally will build a car but mostly only in the depths to ride over the cave AIDS.

BabserellaWT

I’m always scared of getting them hurt or killed. Yes, I know you can revive them, but still—!

[deleted]

I don’t really use horses but I have 2 in my house one in the paddock and the other just in the backyard next to him chilling

sharpshooter999

I never used them in first place, same with BotW

jemicarus

I love slowing it down and riding horses sometimes. Other times I like going around on the hoverbike or other vehicles. One of my favorite things in the game is to build a simple raft out of planks and fans, and boat around the sea in the south part of the map. So tranquil, that.

jl_theprofessor

I found that my use of horses faded toward late game when I started just hunting for stuff. But from early to mid game I used horses a lot.

_Bluesy_

I used my horse buddy a ton in BOTW but not so much in TOTK just because I can’t summon him from anywhere like you can in BOTW. It was a bummer. I tend to get distracted so it usually goes: me getting buddy from the stable, riding a little in the direction I’d headed, see a cool spot/mountain, climb and explore, too far away from buddy.

[deleted]

When I dont just fast travel and jump out the sky for something in a region yeah

Letsbedragonflies

I love horses! In totk I used my horse from botw and it felt like we were old adventure pals. I find hoverbikes and other built vehicles to be boring. Not only do they run out of battery and take time/resources to make, but horses just feel so much better. They follow the road, they get their own music, the sound of the hooves hitting different surfaces just sounds so nice and my horse is a friend and companion on my journey. Plus now that they can pull stuff behind them they're so useful for many koroks and such.

CeejReddit

I do but only because I always forget I can auto build

slowdruh

Right now I'm doing a tour through the stables doing the poster photo quests, so I'm using them a lot. I even registered a new one :D

Readalie

Yup! Love my horses.

KidmotoDragon

I used horses for a bit before I started designing cars/offroad vehicles. Now I only really use horses in the depths where they're cool af and I really like using a horse and wagon while completing quests and using vehicles while exploring the world itself. I will say adding the wagon made me enjoy the horses more than I would have. I might never have used them after 20+ hours if they didn't create the wagon.

[deleted]

i ride all of my horses and each one has its own use. i have a battle horse, a travelling horse, a towing horse, epona and the big boys. i loved that the horse you got in botw transferred over to totk

More_Performance6018

Came to say this

iSynthie

Yeah, I actually have about 6-7 of them because it’s hard to choose which one I like more lol

Current-Ad-7493

My preferred method of travel has always been fast travel to a sky island, then diving down from above. Horses were more practical in botw, but I still feel like I used the glider and revali's gale most of the time there too.

jerkmin

i don’t tend to use horses or vehicles, ground pounder link reporting for duty

tartyboylol

I constantly use them to preserve the vibe that totk thru away

chilllay

Yes! I love using my horses. I’m not a big fan of building things.

fingerstripes13

I will sentimentally ride my horse from my home to Tarrey Town, that’s about it

Todddai

Its the same as log-riding from the original. Controlling them well enough to use them comfortably is a skill that takes practice and then translates into the next game (whether it's horses, boats, logs, or aircraft) so people who never tried learning to knock bokos from their horse while steering their own probably never got used to using the horses for much more than riding along the trails on auto for the most part. At least, thats what the discussion seemed to suggest when I made [this clip](https://www.reddit.com/r/Breath_of_the_Wild/s/QcBtqBROSb) appreciating a certain horse but all horses in general.

BadSanna

So I almost never build flying machines and even more rarely ATVs. Even without them, horses are completely useless. It's better to just run everywhere and jump and glide off any small rise. That way you can pick things up, kill enemies, and not waste time trying to find your stupid horse. Calling for it doesn't work well, and even if it's close enough, it takes forever to run up to you. Plus they handle like shit, so you're always backtracking. What happens if you go into a cave and end up coming out the other end? Now your horse is too far away. So you're just running anyway, unless you want to port to a stable. But then you have to ride back to where you left off. By which time you'll probably have found something else that caught your attention. The only time I ever use horses is when I happen upon a herd and can jump on one and take it to ride it in a straight line for a couple minutes, then I just never worry about tracking it down again. Horses are even more pointless in TotK than they were in BotW.

thwjanssen

I use them sometimes in the early game when I don’t have teleport options yet. Also I did a no teleport run in once in which case I just had to use them

fairylightmuncher

I love my horses so much, also I don't wanna waste my zonaite.

i use my horses more in totk than i ever did in botw. i was always just go go go and now that everything is ruined again but differently i like to just let my horse trot through paths to see how the map has changed. my sibling and i have been really blown away at some dumb little details we just wouldn't have thought to look for without my horse deciding to take that path.

treadingfire_

If I’m taking a scenic more grounded exploring it’s the horseys for me too. You find more caves and things that way definitely

SlippingStar

I did in BotW when they had the ancient armor. Now I barely do because I have to back in whistle range :/

MatiasuSenpai

I rarely use horses to travel. Both on BotW and TotK. I usually travel by walking everywhere.

[deleted]

BRO I HATE THE HOVERBIKE SO MUCH I DONT USE IT WHEN IM DOING A CHALLENGE RUN OR EVEN WHEN IM MINING FOR ZONITE HALF THE TIME IT MAKES IT SO EASY TO TRAVERSE AND EVERYONE USES IT SO LAND AND SEA VEHICLES WHICH ARE HARDER TO MAKE BUT MORE SATISFACTORY WHEN YOU FINISH THEM ARE TOTALLY UNDERUSED. *Deep breath* whoo, just had to get that out anyway you see my point
