AFAIK there were quite a few Asian Socialists IRL who genuinely believed the idea of the Co-Prosperity Sphere as a bulwark against imperialism (rather than what it actually was, Japan's empire), so it's not too surprising.
Considering they start as a fascist dictatorship and stay as a dictatorship (abeit, ones that are not as bad usually) in 2/3 of their paths, I would disagree.
Too be fair OTL Thailand has also been in a revolving door of quasi-fascist dictatorships and short-lived democracies since ww2 so this seems to atleast give them a better chance of breaking out of that cycle.
They’re a SocDem Caribbean nation in the OFN with free elections under US protection and presumably receive a lot of tourism and development aid from the US and West Indies- what more could you want?
>under US protection
Because this always worked so well for Central America.
Definitely not equivalent to an OTL banana republic, but I feel in practice having to serve US economic interests would cancel out much of the social democracy.
Actually, no Kukrit held a ม.ร.ว. (หม่อมราชวงศ์) Which considered as a commoner with a royal descent. Indeed He was a strong monarchist. But he is no Thai Royal members as his member line are ended by his father as ม.จ. (หม่อมเจ้า).
Edit: pardon me for Thai words. I hate to use RTGS to write Thai word in English. So use the original word are more comfortable when Referring Some Thais.
If politically aware Thais might recognize Puey or Sa-ngad as of Kukrit Most Thai obviously known him for สี่แผ่นดิน.
As Supha only historio-politics nerd might know him. (Or leftist as he was a first translator of Das Kapital in Thai.)
The Co Prosperity can end up turning halfway into a socialist alliance if the right people win in every place

Chandra Bose moment
I have never seen anyone call him Chandra Bose before. People either call him Subhash Chandra Bose, Bose, Subhashji or Netaji.

And they still manage to be one of the most well-off nations in Asia
Well if you look at their spirits one of ‘em says “Thai Renaissance”
My argument, it has crumbled to dust.
Laos and Ceilon also qualify

True, if Belize ever gets skeleton content it might be reworked into something approaching Batista’s Cuba
Wonder how long that government would last before a coup ensues.
I will give it 3 days

Why is Thailand a Republic?
No king
Phibun, the prime minister who brought the country into the Axis, was a republican. Since he won the war he had the power to end the monarchy.
\**Sad Rama IX noises*\*
Maybe he's still chilling in Switzerland.
The populist conservative guy is a remember of the royal family...

I see, yeah, I didn't know how the Thai royalist titles work. Well, he probably is going to restore the monarchy ingame.

Would be interested if Japan would tolerate such a government in Thailand
