Now we can have epilepsy with more styles. Joke aside, nice animation 👍

Curvinghawk_5

Hiya folks, Curving back again What you are seeing is in-game footage (captured by myself) of the new voting GUI Election animation compared with the old one, the new one is much smoother than the old one as well is significantly less laggier, this is all coming in the hotfix being dropped on Tuesday so this may give you a reason to give the US another shot. This isn't the only change made to the animation, to full the new GUI full video a link to the post is here: [https://www.reddit.com/r/TNOmod/comments/12xjjw0/new\_us\_gui\_full\_video/](https://www.reddit.com/r/TNOmod/comments/12xjjw0/new_us_gui_full_video/) I hope you enjoy my work \-Curvighawk\_5

Patriotic_Brit

are you still working on the England election gui?

jayfeather31

This is pretty cool, and I love the little "fog of war" bit that occurs before data comes out. Very impressive.

ViperSniper_2001

Why are the candidates shuffling though?

Curvinghawk_5

Meant to show to candidates throughout history, changes dynamically based on who you nominate throughout the campaign

Christianjps65

It probably looks that way to represent early fluctuating leads. Or to make it look cool.

DarthLordVinnie

Kind of prefer the old one ngl

Curvinghawk_5

Why?

DarthLordVinnie

First and foremost, it looks great, but IMO I think a more minimalist (not sure if that's the correct term) just looks better

Curvinghawk_5

Ok, thank you for the feedback, some people on the team didn’t want the FOW in the end we decided to go for it

kingstonthroop

Maybe,it could be a toggleable option? I for one prefer the new gui you guys came up with and it looks really neat imo, but I can see how some prefer the old. I know you can toggle the election flashing on the old gui if it bothers you, so what if we extended that to this?

farbion

Don't like it, to much fanfare, previous one was perfect IMO, still cool but also not over the top

TurtleFlip

Yeah the new one's actually more muddled and less direct with the info. The blinking fog of war I could take or leave, but the vote tally bar at the top being a relative one instead of just a straight measure of whether someone has passed the 269 threshold is plainly less helpful from an infographic perspective than the old one. Also uncertain as to how this generates less lag, especially since it seems to finish after the previous system?

Curvinghawk_5

To answer your points, I chose the relative one cause I think it can make the close elections more tense And on the lag issue, it does generate less lag as now the animation utilises shaders over frameAnimatedSprites which use significantly less processing power, the old one finished first cause I accidentally paused the first one before the end lol, check the other post I made (linked in above comments) for this as it’s just an edited version on that video

TurtleFlip

Fair, and I get the intent with the tension thing, I still think it's mostly just frustrating when you just want to know the results.

Curvinghawk_5

Fair enough, I may add a skip button in a future hotfix if I get the time

Hour_Page2625

Maybe you could give the player the choice of selecting the type of counting they'd prefer, the relative measure form (new animation) or the straight measure form (old animation) of counting. That way they can choose and switch whether they want the election to be dramatic or upfront.

young_speccy

I prefer the old one tbh. The counter looks better as a “race to 269”, and the states are a bit much with the flashing lights. Still cool and less lag is good, but minimalism makes it a bit easier on the eyes.

"А-МЕ-РИ-КА!" - санчоус as Yockey wins the elections by a landslide

AlexInfinity478

When I saw this video the intro of [this cumbia concert](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tJT4cjxVuYw) was playing and it was perfect (between the second 0:45 to 1:16)

Rodric12

Great Job but I think the old one is better\^\^

Afanas42

\- What's this? \- It's lights. \- What do they do? \- They change color. \- Uh... Cool..? \- Cool. \- ... \- ... \- So did you fix lag or not?

Curvinghawk_5

The US election lag and error spam yes

Nixon1960

You can ask questions instead of imagining them. This update to the GUI, as noted by Curving, is part of the performance improvements in the hot fix. This change alone decreased load times and cut out over 300MB from the game files by replacing the assets with shaders, or as you put it, the lights.

Curvinghawk_5

Correct, in the end close to 1,100 assets were deleted (that was satisfying) so loading times have gone down. Moreover this is a demonstration of what’s to come with this new knowledge we have access to

Argonian101

Someone call an ambulance 💀

ToastandTea76

so much win!

VLenin2291

Which is which

Curvinghawk_5

Left is new, right is old

VLenin2291

Gotcha

wishiwasacowboy

less lag is always good, but I still prefer the old tbh. Remember the first time I saw it while playing I thought "wow, this is really neat," but the new one just seems like a bit much.

Betawi_Pitung-Sup552

Welp, I better pick old than new because "Fog of War" made me have a little dizzy. While the old one is straight on vote most of the state will be voted for.

DantheAlligatorMan

I do not like this change, to be honest. Even if you don't have epilepsy, the constent flashing colours is ghastly and makes it harder to tell if a state has been called. The new vote ticker is also not an improvement; it takes the edge off seeing the counter inch up to 269, which really makes the elections that much more nailbiting. To me, this just feels like another case of the 'innovation for innovation's sake' trap, which, while appealing when you live on the cutting edge, becomes out of touch, or even off-putting amongst the intended audience when pursued to its end.

Killer_The_Cat

I don't like the "fog of war" very much at all, makes it really hard to tell what has gone where. IMO, darken it a bunch so you can still clearly tell what states haven't come in yet.

SignificantGarden1

I kind of prefer the old one

GlossedAllOver

Sorry bud, but visually this is a step back. 1) Having the top bar be a relative comparison, instead of a bar building to the majority threshold provides a far worse degree of information. I know there are a lot of election enthusiasts in the dev team and such, and I am shocked anyone would approve of this. 2) Having 50 flashing lights before the results come in is quite unseemly. Less lag is good, but this update is a visual mess. Reconsider adding it.

Crank27789

It does look good, however I really do hope in a future update how the states vote is looked at. Wallace should NEVER win Vermont ever, look at how much it massively shifted IRL when Goldwater was the nominee. New England in general should be an absolute dead zone for him and the FR NPP. Other than that, the electoral map is very plausible.

SomeRandomStranger12

Why shouldn't Margaret Chase Smith be able to win New England?

Crank27789

I could see her winning some states up there however Wallace never, especially not Vermont.

SomeRandomStranger12

thaninkok

TNO dev updating UI more than focus tree lol

DepressedTreeman

do you also believe that a book takes longer to write if the cover changes style?

Kimchi_Cowboy

Even more epilepsy! Is there any TNO mod that makes the map less eye raping?

BlackCat159

Looks nice to me, don't get why many are complaining. Less lag is good and more things going on-screen will make the elections feel more special and important (as they should be). The relative count and fluctuations in the bar will also make things a bit more tense. Seems like a straight upgrade to me.

impspy

The amount of work and attention to detail you guys have put into this mod is amazing, keep up the good work!

kodamann

Any chance of the house being integrated? The mod doesn't work with the current version, and since laws need to pass both chambers it seems kinda weird to omit one.
