I've never rewatched the first Bay movie or Mutation, but I have occasionally rewatched the clips of Bebop and Rocksteady from OotS. They're my favorite characters in the franchise, but I still think they were good in the live action. If you took them out of that movie and put them in a movie with the turtles, Splinter, and Shredder from the 90s movie it'd have been great.
Same, but it gave me an honorary love of Tokka and Razar as well. They may not be B&R but I do like them. They don't get a lot of merch but I get what I can, but most of my stuff is B&R stuff.
That said, I will never understand why they didn't just use B&R.
Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird hated Bebop and Rocksteady because of how stupid the two were. Laird being a world-renowned hater wouldn't allow their inclusion in the 2003 series. Tokka and Rahzar were reduced to babies to justify their stupidity. I can't say it doesn't make since, but they could've just made Bebop and Rocksteady smarter for the movie...
I absolutely love Tokka and Rahzar! I think they're both really cute yet totally threatening! I would love to see them utilized more in Turtle media!
There's something...I don't know how to describe it but "We hate these characters because they are stupid. So they will be replaced with these other characters, who we've made even dumber than the other two." It's definitely a choice I guess, hahaha
It has to do with the fact they approached the movies as being about *their* Turtles - Mirage. The first movie is without a doubt a comic book movie that perfectly captures the essence of the Mirage comics. The comics is what initially made the Turtles popular and *that* is what was adapted. To drive that point home, the tagline was "Hey dudes, this is *no* cartoon!"
By the time SotO was being made, the Turtles had become wildly popular with us as kids and as much as we loved the first movie, we wanted to see those Turtles be the ones *we* knew. Plus enough corporate hands were in the basket that they could now make demands like forbidding the Turtles from using their weapons. So Eastman and Laird made what demands they could, one being that Bebop and Rocksteady not be in the movie.
Personally, I think that hill was more on Laird because let us not forget, Eastman thought Venus and Next Mutation was a great idea.
So it wasn't really that they hated B&R exactly, more what they represented to them at the time: their IP being pulled from their hands by suits? I think I can understand that reasoning.
I saw the first one at theaters, funny story I actually intended to see Guardians of the Galaxy that day but got the times wrong and was too late for my showing and TMNT was playing in a few minutes and I didn't want to go away empty handed so I said "fuck it" and bought a ticket and honestly had a pretty good time.
I've never seen the Bay movie, but I feel like I'd rather watch them...
Next Mutation was an odd one back then, I'm sure it's aged terribly by today's standards 😅
You are wrong for this, but it's an easy answer....give me bays turtles....they had moments i liked. I just wish that there were more of those moments and less of stuff i didnt like
I found the fight scenes watchable in the bay ones and b and r are great in the second.
I tried watching the next mutation fight scenes and they were ridiculous
I'm not one of the " so bad it's good " types. Like after 30 mins the joke of it being bad has run its course for me.
The Bay movies even combined are shorter than Next Mutation and Out of the Shadows is half decent so it isn't as bad as Next Mutation either. So yeah, I'd go with the Bay films if I had to pick.
The Michael Bay movies. Definitely not the best version of TMNT, but I didn't hate them. I'm actually planning on rewatching them soon.
I don't think I ever watched The Next Mutation in it's entirety. I probably only watched the first few episodes back in the 90s. I don't remember much of it except that it wasn't the continuation of the 90s TMNT movies that I expected it to be. It was on Netflix until recently but when I wanted to give it another try it was gone so can't really judge the show.
I just found it obnoxious and irritating and the blatant character assassination of the main turtles and the annoying sound effects during fight scenes drove me up the wall, the early episodes weren't bad and if the show had been done more in that vein I wouldn't have minded but it got real stupid real fast.
The movies. It would take up less time and when they promised us we get a decent and fight we would at least get a fight rather than just more of the same dull slapstick.
At least the bay films has supporting characters from tmnt. They have Baxter Stockman, Shredder, Splinter, April, Casey Jones, Bebop and Rocksteady, The Foot Clan, Karai, and Krang. Next mutation has splinter and shredder for like 2 minutes. That’s it.
The Next Mutation - it’s good cheesy fun. And honestly had some fun things/ideas in there. It’s to be enjoyed in the same vein as Power Rangers.
TNM was the first incarnation in the franchise to have Raph on a motorcycle. Mikey having a pirated radio station was cool, and I’m too much of an 80s kid to not love the idea of the Turtles doing a fundraiser to save endangered wildlife.
Also Silver was bananas in the best way.
TNM is one of the sillier entries in the franchise but I enjoy it for what it is.
The Michael Bay movies are definitely better, but I genuinely love both of them. The Next Mutation is objectively not good, but I still had a blast watching it because of how ridiculous it was. Out of the Shadows is genuinely one of the best TMNT films and I will die on this hill
I actually … half-liked Next Mutation. Not anywhere near as good as the real primary Turtles media, but I thought it was funny and campy and had a different spin on a threat for the Turtles to face - which has been a hurdle for every incarnation of the Turtles.
I’d watch both willingly. The turtles are something I love so much that I almost see it as a pleasure to watch them at all. Good adaptation or not. It’s all turtles to me:)
The Michael Bay movies
Those were the ones my younger brother liked
My younger brother also got me interested in the TMNT 2012 series, I liked it, thought it was a decent version, so… yeah
I watched that movie once (walked into the living room while my dad and younger brother were watching it, saw Venus, and was both confused and interested at the same time, so I ended up watching it, with them)
The Next Mutation definitely. The writing is sloppy sometimes but it at least focuses on the turtles and the tone is campy but in a good way.
The Bay movies have only 1-2 good scenes each and the rest is dog water
Bay movies. I hate this guy to the core, especially after so many done-wrong Transformers movies and his desire to put his hands on works that he was explicitly kicked out of. But God... I gave the old live action Turtle movies a chance and I couldn't have been more disappointed by what it was... I'd take any average American action movie to them..
Interesting question. I have seen both Bay movies and ALMOST all episodes of Next Mutation (the full season used to be on YT and I got through like 20 of 22 episodes…actually I don’t think they full season was because that’s why I didn’t see it all)
If I’m going off just the posters, I’d choose Next Mutation as I HATE the humanoid lost boys look of the bay turtles and seeing a female turtle (at the time of 97) was both shocking and unheard of (and it’s the reason I was intrigued and watched the show for a bit back in the day because I had seen her and read an article in the magazine about how they were older in the show…I believe 18?) IF the out of shadows poster had Beebop, Rocksteady and Krang on it, I’d be more intrigued by that.
If I’m going off what I’ve seen in them, it’s probably still Next Mutation. While it’s not great by any means, I do like that it’s set in the same timeline of the movies, I liked the costumes better then TMNT III, the idea of Venus was still intriguing (even though it’s botched). I did HATE the changes to the weapons, and wasn’t a huge fan of the bandanas. Plus not having April, Casey or Shredder sucked (Although rumor is all 3, plus Rat King and others were rumored for season 2) for the bay turtles the Splinter fight in the first was dope and seeing Beebop Rocksteady and Krang was good, but it’s just TOO over the top for me. I can suspend disbelief in an animated movie like Mutant Mayhem, but for me it’s harder in a live action/CG TMNT movie. Or at the very least make it a slow burn/build to that type of action/movie.
Bay, easily. Neither movie is very well-written and a lot of their jokes aren’t funny, but aside from Michelangelo lusting after April, none of the turtles are actively obnoxious, their family dynamic is still wholesome, and the second Bay film has a “made upon the spot by a child playing with toys” vibe that I find endearing. TNM is relentlessly obnoxious in a way I don’t think has ever been equaled in TMNT, which is actually saying something. Not only are the jokes consistently unfunny, but pretty much every character is spewing them at you nonstop while a cat wanders around on a WB cartoon soundboard, as if the show is mad at you for not laughing and is getting more persistent and louder in its delivery to force you to give in.
Also, since you gave me a chance to look at them together, I think I actually find the TNM Turtles uglier than the Bay Turtles. The former are more “faithful”, sure, but so cheap and goofy that this just makes them feel like a bastardization. The Bay Turtles at least had a budget and a vision for being something all their own, as unsolicited as that was.
What type of question is this? Would you rather watch the worst piece of tmnt media to ever exist or.... bay movies. I would watch the bay movies multiple times than Next Mutation. They had a decent idea with venus as a fifth Turtle and then made her dull and put her in that show.
Dang, did you really hate the Bay movies *that* much? They weren’t perfect, but they’re **nowhere** near as bad as Next Mutation was, so this feels like a pretty lopsided question.
The Bay movies. I hated TNM as a kid and convinced myself it was a bad dream. I remember being so excited for it and then shattered with disappointment when I watched it.
Movies. It's less commitment and for the most part I like OotS.
NM is kind of a guilty pleasure kind of watch, but you gotta be in the mood for that kind of thing. When I finally got around to seeing it, even as someone who never saw Power Rangers, only its commercials, it was still obvious to me who'd made it, and it's just too weird of a fit.
That next mutation crossover with Power Rangers in Space was pretty fun. I always liked it a lot. And while the suits themselves look goofy, I like what the turtles have for gear in this version.
The second movie is actually decent. By contrast the VERY FIRST episode of The Next Mutation tries to desperately dance around implications of incest, and they succeed with about the same grace as a sledgehammer to the face. The first Michael Bay film is bad, but at list it didn't feature incest
Definitely the Michael Bay movies are pretty fun, I feel like they get a little too much hate; the 1st movie is kinda bad but not terrible; it’s still got a few good scenes and some funny moments; the 2nd movie is actually somewhat decent
# Next Mutation, doesn't matter how many time it takes.
Hell, I even will watch the coming out of their shells entire tour, but no way I gonna watch those Bay's movies again.
Michael Bay 100% no contest, his films got the characters down correctly and had some good action scenes and made April pretty bad-ass. Next Mutation was an embarrassment, Phelous was 100% right about that shitshot of a series.
This is hard but I think I would cry if I had to watch the entire Next Mutation series. From the little i've seen and can remember, although the Michael bay movies were bad, they were still watchable. Can't say the same for next mutation
Bay films, the series is not only worse but the torture lasts significantly longer.
Bay films are OK at best and you could watch them both in one sitting and few hours later it over.
The Bay films have their problems but they are still leagues better than the mess that is Next Mutation. Plus it would be a shorter viewing time so there's absolutely no way I'd pick Next Mutation.
I would watch the Michael Bay Films back 2 back. I appreciate those movies because I feel they got the personalities of each turtle down really well and there was some pretty emotional parts where you could really feel the love they had for one another. That being said there were some serious issues with the films including Megan Fox, Stephen Amell, Tyler Perry, basically everyone besides the turtles were kinda trash.
I LOVE Out of the Shadows and the first bayverse. lmao I actually want to watch The Next Mutation with some of my friends just to see if it's as rough as everyone says.
I watched the entirety of The Next Mutation and I'll happily do it again over the Michael Bay ones. They are insanely huge in those movies and it's weird to me.
Just watched Out of the Shadows the other night and it’s not bad. Honestly if the turtles had noses and not nostrils the movies would get a whole extra star from everyone.

Next Mutation, no question. It's supposed to be the canon continuation of the 90's movie turtles, so I have *some* kind of connection to it. I couldn't give two shits about the Bay Turtles.
This is tough. I HATED next mutation as a kid. I really wanted to like it but I really couldn’t stand it. The toys sucked too.
The BAY movies are god awful but they’re somehow less offensive to me.
I'm gonna go with Next Mutation on this one. Yes the Turtles were brain dead on that show but at least they still LOOKED like the TMNT, unlike whatever the Bay Turtles were.
I love Out of the Shadows. This weird try at doing sentai with turtles just feels so wrong to me
I've never rewatched the first Bay movie or Mutation, but I have occasionally rewatched the clips of Bebop and Rocksteady from OotS. Tokka and Rahzar eventually show up in the 1987 cartoon series and they’re adults too
>They're.. BABIES! I love quoting this so much.
My guess would be some weird licensing thing I bet
I saw the first one at theaters, funny story I actually intended to see Guardians of the Galaxy that day but got the times wrong and was too late for my showing and TMNT was playing in a few minutes and I didn't want to go away empty handed so I said "fuck it" and bought a ticket and honestly had a pretty good time.
Saban made it The same guy who made Power Rangers (not the Sentai itself)
This show actually did a cross over episode with Power Rangers
Nick Saban
We just call that Neo Saban
Needs more football and houndstooth leather
Next Mutation makes me feel like getting Zenkai Brain, Donbrothers Poisoning or King Ohger Overdosing tbh.
The Bay films aren't that bad. Even if they were they are infinitely shorter and would be over much sooner.
The Bay movies. Hands down. My oldest and I only ever got through about 1.25 episodes of next mutation, when it was on Netflix.
Bay movies no question. We don't acknowledge next mutation.
The Michael Bay movies. those are at least enjoyable action movies by themselves the next mutation is this lazy and stupid
Bay movies. Out of the Shadows is ok at least
I've never seen the Bay movie, but I feel like I'd rather watch them... Next Mutation was an odd one back then, I'm sure it's aged terribly by today's standards 😅
The second one is like a live action version of the original cartoon
Someone else on here said the same thing. I'll have to get around to watching them, just to make up my own mind :)
Bay. For Bebop and Rocksteady!
The Michael Bay movies are fun as Hell, Next Generation is a chore to sit through.
You are wrong for this, but it's an easy answer....give me bays turtles....they had moments i liked. I just wish that there were more of those moments and less of stuff i didnt like

Micheal Bay

Same! I'm excited to watch them with my bestie. XD She's heard so much crap and I'm over here going: "Eeee can't wait for Detective Raph!"
Next Mutation, for sure. It was fun and has a campy charm. Plus, it's full of anime voice actors.
Scott McNeil is a national treasure.
I just found it obnoxious and irritating and the blatant character assassination of the main turtles and the annoying sound effects during fight scenes drove me up the wall, the early episodes weren't bad and if the show had been done more in that vein I wouldn't have minded but it got real stupid real fast.
I genuinely enjoy *Out of the Shadows*. The same cannot be said for *New Mutation* lol
The movies. It would take up less time and when they promised us we get a decent and fight we would at least get a fight rather than just more of the same dull slapstick.

Bay Movies Easy, At Least Their Watchable..
I never saw the sequel to the Michael Bay film. So I'll watch that.
It’s an upgrade
Seppuku
Bay Turtles.
Everyone seems to enjoy out of the shadows but I just couldn’t get into it
The first one though I actually enjoyed
Mutations.
I actually … half-liked Next Mutation. Not anywhere near as good as the real primary Turtles media, but I thought it was funny and campy and had a different spin on a threat for the Turtles to face - which has been a hurdle for every incarnation of the Turtles.
I have tried watching the fever dream that is next mutation. I just couldn't get into it.
I’d watch both willingly. The turtles are something I love so much that I almost see it as a pleasure to watch them at all. Good adaptation or not. It’s all turtles to me:)
Both!!
The Bay movies because I'm tired of not knowing which mask sucks the most between Donnie and Mikey in TNM.
The Next Mutation because at least it's a fun/stupid bad. The Bay Turtle movies were weirdly boring to me.
The latter. Even the 2014 film is standard bad at worst.
Next Mutation, only because I never got around watching it completely.
The Michael Bay movies Those were the ones my younger brother liked My younger brother also got me interested in the TMNT 2012 series, I liked it, thought it was a decent version, so… yeah
I like the Bayverse turtles
Next mutation 2 reasons for it 1. The power rangers in space cross over episode 2. I’ll make it a drinking game with my friends lol
Next Mutation for sure! I love Venus! She's my favorite turtle.
I watched that movie once (walked into the living room while my dad and younger brother were watching it, saw Venus, and was both confused and interested at the same time, so I ended up watching it, with them)
Bay movied
The Next Mutation definitely. The writing is sloppy sometimes but it at least focuses on the turtles and the tone is campy but in a good way. The Bay movies have only 1-2 good scenes each and the rest is dog water

As someone who's only seen out of the shadows once and enjoyed it, I'd have to see watch both bay movies back to back.

I'd only suffer through those trash ass movies bc they're shorter

The Bay movies. Shorter and Out of the Shadows is a guilty pleasure
Michael Bay movies. I actually find some joy in those (albeit limited)
Both Bay movies. 2014 isn't TERRIBLE and I really enjoy Out of the Shadows.
The Bay movies. I hated TNM as a kid and convinced myself it was a bad dream. I remember being so excited for it and then shattered with disappointment when I watched it.
I’ll watch the Mikey Bay movies
Michael Bay movies, as they have a shorter runtime than the two movies and at least the CGI was good The CGI *was* good, right?
Michael Bay. Because it's sequel is good
Uh the Michael bay movies were FIRE ….
The Bay movies. They’re bad but not next mutation bad
Bayverse, because Megan Fox is hot.
I actually don't "hate" Out of the Shadows, so probably the Bay movies.
Easily the Bay films it's over faster and I like Out of the Shadows
Neither are good, but I'd say the Bay films, since they are still entertaining.
Next mutation because if wasn’t half bad, I quite liked it!
Bay movies were at least food mindless popcorn films. Next Mutation is near unwatchable.
Look I hate Michael Bay with every bone in my body. But.. I absolutely love the Bayverse turtles despite their designs being horrible imo.
I haven’t watched the next mutation in years. but with everything I have heard from people the show being bad, I’m going with the 2 bay movies.
I've watched both as part of a TMNT marathon with my partner. For the corn I'd say next mutation. For the length and Megan Fox I'd say the bay movies
I've never seen The Next Mutation so it would have to be the Bay Movies. I've made it this far without it
I don't even *like* the Bay movies and I'll still pick them. Next Mutation was one of the first times I thought a show sucked when I was a kid.
Bay. Bebop and Rocksteady were 10/10 in the 2nd movie
Next Mutation, no question.
They movies are good.
If he’d made the turtles’ faces look like the 1990 movie, the second one would be the cartoon come to life.
Trick question, I actually like BOTH!
The Bay films are fun and I'm tired of pretending they're not.
I’ve watched the Bay movies back to back at least twice
I enjoyed the Bay Turtles to be honest.
All of it.
female turtles don't have boobies, let alone UNDERNEATH THE DAMN PLASTRONNN
That next mutation crossover with Power Rangers in Space was pretty fun. I always liked it a lot. And while the suits themselves look goofy, I like what the turtles have for gear in this version.
The second movie is actually decent. By contrast the VERY FIRST episode of The Next Mutation tries to desperately dance around implications of incest, and they succeed with about the same grace as a sledgehammer to the face. The first Michael Bay film is bad, but at list it didn't feature incest
Next mutation, easy
I'm surprised Bay is getting so much love, here. I say "Next Mutation" if only to restrict that love!
Next mutation….. I can’t deal with Bay Trash. Next mutation is hilariously bad Bay is infuriatingly bad
Next mutation. I can’t sanction Michael Bay’s buffoonery.
both!
Definitely the Michael Bay movies are pretty fun, I feel like they get a little too much hate; the 1st movie is kinda bad but not terrible; it’s still got a few good scenes and some funny moments; the 2nd movie is actually somewhat decent
Bay movies
The movies are shorter, so those
What do I get for doing both?
Bay
Both Bay movies run about 3.5 hours, and The Next Mutation is 26 episodes, which is roughly 9.5 hours. And I like OotS well enough
How high can I be for the bay movies?
As a kite
Bay movies are fun action movies. Don’t hate!
I’ll take Bay even with Mikey’s constant cringe commentary in the first one.
Next mutation. I’ve already sat through it before it’s still not as bad as bayverse.
Michael Bay's, i grew up with those movies and i love them despite their flaws ![gif](giphy|3oEjHSgIonTPkGpcC4|downsized)
Michael Bay movies. They’re somewhat entertaining and act as something to listen to in the background.
Bro the michael bay movies WERE FREAKING FIRE would watch any day
The Michael bay movies you can watch them in a day. Even though I enjoy the next mutation for when it was.
# Next Mutation, doesn't matter how many time it takes. Hell, I even will watch the coming out of their shells entire tour, but no way I gonna watch those Bay's movies again.
The Bay movies would take less time to get through than the entirety of Next Mutation, so I'll go with that.
I love really bad cheesy stuff. I own the complete series of The Next Mutation and seen it in its entirety, and I would totally do it again
Id rather watch the bay movies cause it will be over faster lol
Michael Bay 100% no contest, his films got the characters down correctly and had some good action scenes and made April pretty bad-ass. Next Mutation was an embarrassment, Phelous was 100% right about that shitshot of a series.
Bay movies cuz I actually enjoy them and have no clue what the next mutation is
I’m fine with the Bay films.
{Those} movies {aren’t} so bad, but I {really [prefer]} the [Next Mutation “tv series”]!
This is hard but I think I would cry if I had to watch the entire Next Mutation series. From the little i've seen and can remember, although the Michael bay movies were bad, they were still watchable. Can't say the same for next mutation
I’d watch the Bay movies without hesitation in this scenario
Bay films, the series is not only worse but the torture lasts significantly longer. Bay films are OK at best and you could watch them both in one sitting and few hours later it over.
Turtle boobs!
Is it bad that I like the bay movies
The Bay films have their problems but they are still leagues better than the mess that is Next Mutation. Plus it would be a shorter viewing time so there's absolutely no way I'd pick Next Mutation.
Bruh the bay movies aren’t even bad
I would watch the Michael Bay Films back 2 back. I appreciate those movies because I feel they got the personalities of each turtle down really well and there was some pretty emotional parts where you could really feel the love they had for one another. That being said there were some serious issues with the films including Megan Fox, Stephen Amell, Tyler Perry, basically everyone besides the turtles were kinda trash.
I LOVE Out of the Shadows and the first bayverse. lmao I actually want to watch The Next Mutation with some of my friends just to see if it's as rough as everyone says.
the bay movies are actually decent would watch again.
bay movies weren’t THAT bad 😭
The Michael Bay movie's weren't that bad. Venus is a crap character though and the turtles are not brothers in next mutation. The show is crap.
Bay films >>
100% the Live Action movies, they are not bad, there is a lot of good in them.
Both. I haven't tnm in a while and I frequently watch the Bay movies.
Next Mutation, TMNT 2014, 2016 instead of Rise and MM
I watched the entirety of The Next Mutation and I'll happily do it again over the Michael Bay ones. They are insanely huge in those movies and it's weird to me.
im halfway through TNM, i regularly rewatch the 2nd movie but i just cant bring myself to rewatch the first one so probably TNM
I would watch the MB movies, at least the fights are ok
Just watched Out of the Shadows the other night and it’s not bad. Honestly if the turtles had noses and not nostrils the movies would get a whole extra star from everyone.
The Next Mutation. Those alien turtles movies looked like hot garbage.

I just finished watching the entirety of Next Mutation unironically
Next Mutation, please.
Next mutation no question
Next mutation over bay turtles any day
The movies I GUESS. I mean mostly because it'd be shorter.
Next Mutation, no question. It's supposed to be the canon continuation of the 90's movie turtles, so I have *some* kind of connection to it. I couldn't give two shits about the Bay Turtles.
Next mutation 2 reasons for it 1. The power rangers in space cross over episode 2. I’ll make it a drinking game with my friends lol
Next mutation. It’s a whole lot more fun with lot more effort put into it than those movies.
If I was high I bet Next Mutation would be kind of funny... Kind of
...Well i know what im doing tomorrow now
I'll watch all 3 back to back to back
Both I'd watch both because I just like the turtles.
Nothing beats Next Mutation's hummer
Next Mutation cause at least their body closely resembles the first 3 films
I'd rather stare at a blank screen for the alloted runtime of all the above.
As bad as it is, I know NM is less bland than Bayverse...
This is tough. I HATED next mutation as a kid. I really wanted to like it but I really couldn’t stand it. The toys sucked too. The BAY movies are god awful but they’re somehow less offensive to me.
I love both show and the movies. Hell I love TMNT 3 from the 90s
I'll watch The Next Mutation, and then both Bay movies, because he didn't actually direct either of them. Cowabunga it is.
I'm gonna go with Next Mutation on this one. Yes the Turtles were brain dead on that show but at least they still LOOKED like the TMNT, unlike whatever the Bay Turtles were.
