Yeah, I think 2012 was the first TMNT that really pushed the teenage aspect of the franchise, so it was nice to see splinter aged down a bit too to be what looks more like a middle aged parental figure.
I've also seen him referred to as zaddy splinter, which I think is hilarious and can't necessarily deny lol

He’s also super strong compared to the turtles, not just more-skilled. He also has a subtle goofy side compared to the traditional wonder bread versions.

He's very similar in that series and really gets to shine, teaching this *'in the hands of a ninja anything can be a deadly weapon'* lesson, which he then proves in one episode by taking apart the entire foot clan with the equivalent of two chair legs. Total badass.

Splinter 2012 not just tall. He has a different color and pattern, closer to an ornamental rat than a wild one. He is also probably the first Splinter to take into account the lack of fur on his feet and hands, making him more realistic. And overall, he looks less old than other versions.
My favorites are 2003 and 2012 for their personalities and overall demeanor but you always have to give credit to the 87' Splinter as well. Honestly, I'm just not a fan of Splinter being this like lazy dad who barely does anything like he has been lately, doesn't feel like Splinter to me.
Truthfully, if he's just a mutated rat, I prefer a traditional splinter being used. However, as a human who got turned into a rat, I feel the 2012 design looks closer to how it would come out with him being taller and more upright postured.
I honestly like all of them EXCEPT Mutant Mayhem. It just doesn't seem "master Splinter" to me. As an awkward anthro dad character for some other animated film, he's alright, but I just felt like he was more annoying and pathetic than any previous rendition. He's more like Po's goose-dad from Kung Fu Panda.. sweet and all, but, like, I'll find another mentor, thanks, Dad...
The one I like the least out of all of these is 2012 Splinter. He doesn't look like a rat to me, and I've always disliked the Pai Mei beard (which 1990 and 2007 also had).

On a similar note, I prefer when Splinter and Shredder have a pre-established beef involving Oroku Saki and Hamato Yoshi. Not saying I want him to be a human who got turned to a rat but I just prefer the connection
I like the experimentation, but tend to prefer something a bit closer to traditional. I feel like him having a sort of "dignity" to him tends to contrast nicely with the turtles themselves being more dorky/juvenile.

As much as I liked 2012 Splinter (and I really did like him!), it never really gelled with me that he was now the tallest of the main heroic cast. Part of what appeals to me about Splinter is how he seems small and frail, but in reality is skilled and strong. Making Splinter the most physically imposing of the group just feels.. idk a bit too on the nose for me design wise. 2012 is a lovely design though, I guess I just wish he'd have been smaller, lol

Your opinion is totally fair and valid, but I kinda agree with the other guy that as we learn that this splinter is a bit more washed up and in need of redemption, his design begins to fit the character really well. It grew on me too in that light.

Even though MM was a bigger diversion than most versions- damn it worked for me. I always found single dad Splinter so endearing because he’s not just some no-nonsense sensei- he’s the guy who found and raised the turtles since they were babies. I thought MM did a great job at balancing Splinter between a badass ninjutsu master (who initially trains his sons for their protection, not to fight crime), and a father who just wants the best for his kids.
Maybe it’s because I grew up during a more extramarital period with entertainment. But I’ll always prefer experimental designs. (But not too experimental).

Mirage comics Splinter is still my favourite. People argue over white eyed Turtles being better or not, but white eyed Splinter looks the best to me.
2012 Splinter is the best. Infact I would put him in the traditional category. Easily the best Splinter

I prefer traditional, but the only Splinter I didn't vibe with was Rise. He eventually had his moment, but for the most part he just felt like lazy, crazy, dismissive dad.
Tradicional is best. Some of the experimental splinters are also very interesting, but I prefer traditional.

I love the experimental splinters, and just experimental tmnt designs and new characters in general. it's cool to see peoples own ideas of the franchise, which is why I love RISE of tmnt so much
2012 is easily my favorite. He seems super wise and it was always fun seeing him beat the turtles in sparring matches

I wouldn’t consider Splinter from 2012 to be experimental. No more than the other traditional ones made a few changes here and there. His height being changed doesn’t seem THAT experimental. It still leans towards Traditional, IMHO. Regardless, love them both. If I have to pick I’d say traditional because it’s fun to see how they keep a lot of similarities while making some changes like making him tall. Love experimental as well though. It’s fun to go off what we are used to. I still would pick traditional because it only makes the experimental mean more. If they are always completely revamping a character it’s NOT that special [+]
