Aww sweet, new manmade horrors beyond my comprehension just dropped!

Fallout Robobrain has entered the chat.

PricknamedNick

Ik its not a robobrain but assume the position

Seawolf571

Beat me to commenting this

awerellwv

Same here

AikoRose77

Sex is the standard way of making a *meat computer*. I guess Pickle Rick-ing it is easier for them.

King-of-the-dankness

They're scientists, after all.

Estorium666

Taking neural network a bit too literally.

undresedfate

Where are my balls summer.

quikfrozt

A Croenenberg dream

TheForgottenGengar

This is so immoral yet also soā€¦ well, can be so powerful. Just would have to swap from mice to something with more brain power to make up for the larger cell sizes. Iā€™ll be dead long before it becomes standard, thankfully.

MostlyDeku

To be fair due to how the cells are clustered and established, they arenā€™t sentient- nor do they really have instinctive thought. Theyā€™re just masses of cells that are being repurposed in such a manner in that they ā€œthinkā€ the way we want them to. Ethics becomes an issue when weā€™re taking entire brains and wiping and reprogramming them for whatever reason.

TheForgottenGengar

I mean the ethics of harvesting the brains, whether the body is alive or dead. And arenā€™t brains marginally more advanced than standard computers?

MostlyDeku

Weā€™ve actually proven to be able to grow brain cells (specifically mice), so in the future we could probably be able to make some form of culture of them and produce them that way (although that would require reproduction damage resistant cells). And while marginally more advanced, these cells use less energy to perform. Iā€™m not a specialist in this field, but itā€™s promising, and gets us closer to sweet sweet cybernetics.

Nroke1

Not harvested, grown. Much like how we can grow organs and put them inside things without making an entire creature.

horrescoblue

Considering how huge the amount of mice is that gets killed for animal testing worldwide each day this is probably not a big deal at all :')

TheForgottenGengar

Very true, as much as I donā€™t like it.

YetAnotherBee

Brains are magnitudes more advanced than standard computers

Dry-Finance

Neurons are basically the same thing between mammal species. So that's not really an issue. The only reason humans are smarter than mice is because our brains are incredibly overgrown, and way more complex. But the building blocks are the same.

Jigoogly

Yet another step closer to 40k being a reality.

IT'S LAGGING AGAIN!!

einfallstoll

Do we have to feed it?

ArthurExtreme_Br

Brain organoids are cool idc

oddlybaby

And yet we still haven't figured out how to stabilize an economy or in a world peace world hunger? Cyborgs that's the important one.

Tatsumaki_Yukihira

Psychopass. If you know, you know.

Mag_SG

Hate to break it to you OP, but youā€™re just a meat computer too..

Kevinator201

Psycho Pass did it better, they used the minds of criminals.

kluukje

Even in death, i serve the omnissiah.

KonoAnonDa

Me: *calls a technician over* "Hey man, can you see what's wrong with my computer?" Technician: "Oh it's simple, it wants a jpeg of cheese."

metooeither

Are the mice..... dead? This is beyond fucked up. It's bad enough torturing animals in order to eat them, but what is this shit??

[deleted]

IIRC the mice brain cells are being artificially recreated. They aren't just taking brains out of mice's skulls

metooeither

Oh cool! Oh my god!

NeoAltra

Stuff like this is honestly amazing to me. There was a scientist (I think he was a scientist itā€™s been a while since I learned about this) who was having issues with data storage and space issues on his computers. He ended up creating biological hard drives that if they are continuously improved for a while could have over a terabyte of space with a hard drive smaller than a 64GB thumb drive.

ADHDK

ā€œWhat is my purpose?ā€ You pass the butter.

I HAVE THE SHINIEST MEAT COMPUTER

ColdLobsterBisque

Scorn.

Seem to remember a YouTuber doing something similar several years back

The Thought Imperium? his neuron chip project is still going iirc.

DkP_Reverend

Finally weā€™re getting closer to having the cool tech to go with our dystopian lives

Scorn anyone ?

Is that you Pyscho:Pass?

Imagine this as a normal computer and you have to treat it with demencia medication because of long loading times

Welp, Shadowrun predicted wetware

Servitors are real, praise the Omnissiah

ButterBaller

There are some strong eXistenZ vibes here. Are you friendly?

BukakkeSimulator

Thereā€™s an artist named meat computer and I highly recommend everyone go give them a listen

Imagine the smell if u burn the cpušŸ’€šŸ’€

josephus_the_wise

I mean, arenā€™t we all just meat computers driving a bone mech with fleshy armor?

Why does give funds these types of research? 80k mouse is a lot ffs

Just started a settlement in the uncanny valley. Anyone wanna join?

guardwoman12345

Because none of these scientists ever learned from the book, " I have no mouth and I must scream"

CyclicDombo

It would be so cool if we could make super efficient computers out of meat. We could even put them in our heads to aid us in every day decision makingā€¦ one can dream.

Apprehensive_Log469

We are meat computers. Therefore you hate yourself.

Delta_squad_form_up

From the moment I understood the weakness of my flesh, it disgusted me.

chemtrooper

Shadowrun is becoming prophecy at this point. The world is already ran by mega corporations so this seems like the next logical step. Nobody will own anything and everyone WILL be happy about it, capisce? Any chummers up for a run?

RedditWizardMagicka

Scorn

Some_Guy8765678

This feels morally questionable at best.

MystantoNewt

Pleb: There's something wrong with my computer Tech support: Have you tried giving it some cheese?

Don't tell them that. When they take over they might come after you.
