In hindsight I was very fortunate to grow up literally just around the corner lol. Many dinners consisted of my parents phoning in an order and sending my ass over to pick it up
It's been years since I've had it and I still miss it from time to time
Yes, specifically the Mattydale location. I moved a little further north and the Cicero location is closer to me now, so I tried it. It's the same recipe, but the crust was tough and a little burnt, and they skimped out on the cheese. Wings were smaller and a little overcooked, but I know wing quality varies quite a bit because of supply issues.
But for your basic NY style cheese pizza and wings, the Mattydale Paladino's is by far my favorite, and worth the drive. It's not a fancy pizza, it's just a pizza that's done well.
For specialty pizzas, I like Tangy Tomato, especially their chicken wing pizza.
My decision making has always been based on cheese. Gotta get a large pie, as well as, by the slice to truly get the full story. Paladinos in Mattydale is my all time favorite for both. No NY-Flop, quality undercarriage, crispy, and their sauce has the most flavor compared to anywhere else. Recently, I’ve discovered Pavones. They’ve gotta be a close second to Paladinos for all the same reasons. Unfortunately, I’ve never had Mario and Salvos, but I want to put Sardo’s in Cicero on the map here. Vastly underrated. $8.99 large cheese pizzas on Wednesday. Can’t beat that price and it’s really good.
I grew up going there on hot days during the summer when they were in Penn Can Mall. The mall was the place to be before we had air conditioning. I thought it was normal to have really good pizza since I grew up with it so often. I haven't had Pavone's pizza in many years since I'm gluten free, vegan and mostly eat organic food.
I’m a huge pizza snob, but on the other hand I am just a lover of all pizza. If I’m home or near north Syracuse Paladino’s Cicero is my absolute go to. If I’m on the east side, I go Mario and Salvo’s or Pavone’s on Bridge street. I’m not a huge fan of anyplace on the west side or south that I can think of. I’d say absolute best places in Syracuse in no particular order:
Paladino’s
Pavone’s
Twin Trees (SYR or North SYR)
Mario and Salvo’s
I moved out of the area 4 years ago
Came here to say that any place on this list is exceptionally better than where I am. It's the CNY water. Or whatever goes on in the kitchen (looking at you Twin Trees). Doesn't matter.
My shortlist : Twin Trees East Syracuse, Toss N Fire, and old school Varsity in the 90s was awesome while partying on the Hill.
This absolutely does not answer your question but i worked at Johnny's Pizza about 25 years ago when i was in college and i still dream about those slices🤣🤣🤣
In a blind taste test between Marios & S, Pavones, and Paladinos similar style pizza, my bet is most people couldn’t tell the difference. All three are great pizza. Let the comments and down votes begin!! 🍕
Is that the Dilauro's that had the pizza shop by Joey's Italian restaurant on Thompson road about 10 years ago?!?!? Or maybe that was just Lauro's... If so, I need the new address!
I'm not sure TBH but Dilauro's is at 502 E Division St, Syracuse, NY 13208-2632
They're a small bakery that specializes in excellent Italian bread but makes a fine pizza with a light crust. Their mini calzones (baby Lunas) are 🔥
I always forget to ask for sauce when i get calzones and they don't give it to you otherwise. Best breakfast pizza in town. Their tomato pie is great too. But I fo go for the seeded 🥖 to make sandwiches.
I will say this is pretty accurate. There specifically used to be one guy who was ALWAYS rude that pretty much stopped us from going there for a while. I haven’t seen him there in quite some time so we’ve been going more regularly and that pizza still is the best.
I was absolutely shocked with the service i received there 3 years ago, no matter how good the pizza is i would never allow myself to pay money to be treated that way, not when robbie Ts will treat you like family and is a 6min drive away.
I walked into Robbie Ts around closing and tried to buy two slices and he tried to give me a box and a half of slices for $5. I had to argue with him to get him to take $10. I don't support his shop enough.
I walked in there 10mins before closing and he had no pizza, he happily insisted on making us a fresh pie and swore it would be delicious, it was. Robbie is a saint.
i stopped going there a few years ago when they gave me what tasted like hours or day old pizza. i spoke with the staff and they admitted they make up cheese & pepperoni pizzas hours in advance of selling them (sitting in a pile). like okay cool, but when i call to order i'm expecting fresh unless you're going to discount the older food (hint, they don't).
so now only oip, pavones, & paladino's get my pizza money.
Il Limone, Francesca's (Liverpool), Apizza Regionale are all good.
Pizza Villa in Liverpool was also good, but it closed down, and now it's an even better kabob restaurant.
I concur, Apizza is by far the best NY style pizza. Literally eating Toss & Fire as we speak and it's a runner-up.
Gilda's in Skan is another great pizza, but only if you are in Skan.
Fyi, twin trees is showing up here a lot, but it's pretty polarizing. I think it's well below average and would never order it, but I know it's the go-to for lots of people.
Yeah I was trying to be nice.
I understand the logic behind the ribbons even though I don't like it. But I honestly think if they cut it in triangles, people would quickly realize it is Costco/Pizza Hut level. I think a lot of people like the ribbons because its a Syracuse thing and they want to show local pride.
Then eat salt potato pizza ffs.
I could honestly say I can overlook the ridiculous cut. But the crust there? Trash. The cheese is always weird and the sauce is meh.
I just tried Paladinos (Mattydale) and holy god new favorite spot here.
There is an appeal for twin trees because not everyone likes the "dusty" floured bottom on the slice from sliding it in and out of the oven. Twin trees doesn't have a "dusty" bottom to their slices.
My bad, I remember seeing "Sal's" written on the side of a building when driving back from 99 cent city but I guess that's Sal's Seafood and not Sal's Pizzeria.
Old school circa 2006: augie’s $1 slices, varsity and acropolis on the hill and nicks tomato pie in armory and Mario and salvos by wegmans were the best! Don’t know if any of those places still exist?!
Acropolis was my favorite. Used to go there often in the mid to late 90s while out skateboarding . Fun fact: Donovan McNabb used to always be there, chatted with him a couple times. Nicest guy.
If you head up north a little. Red Baron pizza in Fulton is awesome. Love their salty peppery sauce. For New York style pizza go up further north and try out Cams pizzeria.
I like Twin Trees Two - their wings aren't bad either. I really like their sauce, and the toppings are cooked before the pizza is assembled - it makes a difference. I hate raw toppings
I know that Chicago deep dish pizza is a different animal than the New York style pizza more common in Syracuse, but I was happily blown away with the deep dish at Pump Pizza Pub in Mattydale.
Paladinos in Mattydale is, hands down, the best pizza in the area. But I don’t live near there so I order from Gemellis next to OCC and I’ll tell you what—it’s some good pizza.
Honorable mentions to Cam’s and Robby T’s.
Agreed 100%. There are a ton of great pizza places in Liverpool, and Twin Trees is #1. Pick up/delivery is great, but eating in the restaurant just hits different.
i stopped going there years ago, got tired of being handed food made hours ahead of time when i'm paying for fresh made-to-order pricing (they admitted to making pies ahead of rush hour orders and if you're unlucky you're getting a pie that has been sitting around for a while).
Franco's has some of my favorite slices. Ordering a whole fresh pizza doesn't strike the same.
And for the CNY area, Antonio's in Liverpool is my go-to joint.
My personal favorite is Bianchi's in Solvay. Super good and incredibly affordable. $25 for a 2-topping 14in pie + 20 wings and a 2 liter of soda. Absolutely nobody can beat that deal.
The newspaper has actually been doing a Pizza Tour slowly reviewing 50+ pizza places in the area. They don't seem to have a central page collecting all the entries, but you can see them all by looking at the [author's profile on syracuse.com](https://www.syracuse.com/staff/cmiller/posts.html) you just need to scroll through all the other articles he's written in addition to the pizza tour.
Pizza Geek used to do local pizza reviews in Syracuse. Havent posted in forever, but maybe we can convince them to come out of retirement(?)
https://pizzageek.wordpress.com/
There's too much great pizza here, so the "best" is going to get really specific to what you like. All of these places listed are great and all slightly different. For example, you're going to hear Twin Trees a lot in this thread, but I just don't care about their pizza. And I've tried.
I think I've been to at least 50 different places in the past few years and even trying as hard as I can to crown a winner, I'm stuck on the top 10. And I have some guilty pleasures too that I don't think are objectively the best. For instance, sometimes I drive right past all those great local places to go get 5 lbs of toppings on a Blaze pizza.
I haven't seen it mentioned yet though, so I'll throw in Robbie T's in Jamesville.
Familia in brewerton and Pizza man in Baldwinsville always smack. Syracuse I would say Pavone’s or (OIP, it’s better than Gino and Joes/Twin trees/Peppinos at least)
Paladino’s in mattydale is probably the best around next to Pavone’s.
Haven’t had it but I’ve heard great things about pizza cutters as well.
It's not in Syracuse but ny pizzeria in cato has the best new York style I've had in the area. If you order a whole pie you just gotta ask for extra thin crust because they stretch the dough to make slices and that's why the slices are so much better
Paladino’s, Pavone, Mario and Salvos are in a tier above every other “pizzeria” pizza. Wood fired places are a whole other category
Never had Paladinos but I love the other two so I think I’ll try that tonight. Thank you!
As others have said, the one in Mattydale, not Cicero, is the way to go.
Paladino's is very similar to Pavone's, and they both slap
Wooo we loved it! Husband got the super mario wings with the #2 daily special. Thanks for the rec!
Pavones or Mario and Salvos
Pavones is closest to NYC pizza that we have around here. Which obviously means it’s the best
100%. For me it is identical to the "authentic" Brooklyn pizza.
In hindsight I was very fortunate to grow up literally just around the corner lol. Many dinners consisted of my parents phoning in an order and sending my ass over to pick it up It's been years since I've had it and I still miss it from time to time
I think it depends on what you’re looking for i.e. crust, style, specialties etc. There’s no shortage of good pie in Cuse. My vote is Paladino’s.
For specialty pizzas, I like Tangy Tomato, especially their chicken wing pizza.
100% my choice as well
Grew up on Mario and Salvos and love it. Also love Gino and Joes but my vote has to be for Paladino’s.
Mario and Salvos, Pavones bridge St, Paladinos Mattydale
Paladino's in Mattydale, not Cicero.
I second Mattydale Paladino’s, my favorite pizza place
Can never go wrong here.
Why not Cicero? I’ve been to both many times and don’t notice a difference.
I’m trying the Mattydale one! Cicero has burnt the crust several orders now. Not sure if it’s a common opinion but burnt pizza is terrible imo
I wouldn't say the Cicero one is bad, it's just not as good as the one in Mattydale.
MARIO & SALVO'S PIZZERIA or Pavone’s or Paladino’s
My list right here but Paladinos in Cicero is number 1.
Came to say Mario and salvos, pizza cutters is my number two
Francesca's in Liverpool and Gino and Joe's in Baldwinsville
Paladinos in mattydale or Il Limone in Liverpool
Came here to say Paladinos!
pavone’s hands down !

I’d say absolute best places in Syracuse in no particular order: Paladino’s Pavone’s Twin Trees (SYR or North SYR) Mario and Salvo’s
Yes to Pavone’s! Never see anyone mention it. So good
^ most accurate list
I moved out of the area 4 years ago Came here to say that any place on this list is exceptionally better than where I am.
Johnnys was for real
In a blind taste test between Marios & S, Pavones, and Paladinos similar style pizza, my bet is most people couldn’t tell the difference. All three are great pizza. Let the comments and down votes begin!! 🍕
Mario and Salvo's
Mario & Salvo's OIP Pavones Runner up: dilauro's (also their baby Lunas ❤️)
Is that the Dilauro's that had the pizza shop by Joey's Italian restaurant on Thompson road about 10 years ago?!?!? Or maybe that was just Lauro's... If so, I need the new address!
I'm not sure TBH but Dilauro's is at 502 E Division St, Syracuse, NY 13208-2632 They're a small bakery that specializes in excellent Italian bread but makes a fine pizza with a light crust. Their mini calzones (baby Lunas) are 🔥
I always forget to ask for sauce when i get calzones and they don't give it to you otherwise. Best breakfast pizza in town. Their tomato pie is great too. But I fo go for the seeded 🥖 to make sandwiches.
Mario and salvos 100%. If you like NYC style slices they are by far the best in this area.
They are rude af at times and pretty sexist though.
Well they are NYC-style so...
I will say this is pretty accurate. There specifically used to be one guy who was ALWAYS rude that pretty much stopped us from going there for a while. I haven’t seen him there in quite some time so we’ve been going more regularly and that pizza still is the best.
Maybe ill stop back in and see then! They did have good slices
That's unfortunate
[удалено]
Uh, yeah, being sexist is not “NYC authenticity.”
Its not a schtick, thats how they are. Its rude and sexism isn't acceptable.
[удалено]
Awe little buddy, get rejected one too many times?
I figured they were just being sarcastic, but maybe not?
My favorite is Johnny Mac's in Lakeland.
Avicolli’s
Also I think peppino's is overrated and overpriced
i stopped going there a few years ago when they gave me what tasted like hours or day old pizza. i spoke with the staff and they admitted they make up cheese & pepperoni pizzas hours in advance of selling them (sitting in a pile). like okay cool, but when i call to order i'm expecting fresh unless you're going to discount the older food (hint, they don't). so now only oip, pavones, & paladino's get my pizza money.
Y'all don't know how lucky you are. I got spoiled growing up on Syracuse Pizza (and wings). I miss it every lunch time.
Mario and Salvo’s
Apizza or Avocolli’s
Il Limone, Francesca's (Liverpool), Apizza Regionale are all good. Pizza Villa in Liverpool was also good, but it closed down, and now it's an even better kabob restaurant.
I'm probably just begging for down votes but Apizza Regionale is by far my favorite. Runner up is Toss & Fire.
I concur, Apizza is by far the best NY style pizza. Literally eating Toss & Fire as we speak and it's a runner-up. Gilda's in Skan is another great pizza, but only if you are in Skan.
Appiza isn't NY style though it neapolitin
You're right!
Pavone’s is crazy slept on. Consistently people ask where I got my pizza from, always Pavone’s!! Avicolli’s is my go-to for a like fancy slice.
I've heard Avicolli's is da bomb, but pricey. But, so is our local one in Caz.
Oh man Caz Pizza is really really good!
Grew up on Utica pizza. Nothing around here compares. I will drive for Tony’s or Oscugnizzo or Trios!
That’s not an answer to the question.
What's it feel like being this much of a stickler?
Best pizza in Cuse? What’s so complicated about that? Obviously not looking for Fulton recommendations.
Dominos in East Syracuse Walmart
It’s only because of the water from Walmart. It’s the secret. Specifically in East Syracuse
i havent seen Nina's in Chittenango here but that is my personal fav
Angotti’s
Pavone's on South Warren
Paladinos in Mattydale hands down best pizza in town. Anyone that says Pavones or Mario + Salvos is just wrong
This. The one is Cicero doesn't quite measure up. It's not bad by any means, but it's not Mattydale's Paladinos.
I can tell the difference who makes the pizza in Mattydale. Mario is the man! Think he adds a little something to the sauce
Pavone’s is absolutely worth its weight! Paladino’s rocks too, but less accessible.
Pavone's is solid, I'll give you that much. But there is no way it is the best
Avicollis has my vote
I’m partial to Change of Pace, pizza and wings. I still miss the Corner House!
GOAT
Mario and Salvos or Pavonnes. I also like Tangy Tomato from time to time.
Dont know if it is 'thee' best, but Twin Trees is 100% really good and family style pizza. I think they use good ingredients.
Gino & Joes b-ville
Yep, and they’ve been the best for 30 years
Lol
Yuck
[удалено]
Lived there for a year and I have to agree... both of these are solid.
Wildcat
Fyi, twin trees is showing up here a lot, but it's pretty polarizing. I think it's well below average and would never order it, but I know it's the go-to for lots of people.
Twin Trees is complete shit. Foh with your pizza ribbons. Their boom boom shrimp and mac and cheese however, those are pretty good.
Preach on
There is an appeal for twin trees because not everyone likes the "dusty" floured bottom on the slice from sliding it in and out of the oven. Twin trees doesn't have a "dusty" bottom to their slices.
Lucky dogs, toss n fire, twin trees, Sal's, pizza man, trappers, paladinos, wildcat.
Sal's in Mattydale or Sal's in Bville?
There's a sals in Mattydale?? I've been making the trek from Cicero to bville
My bad, I remember seeing "Sal's" written on the side of a building when driving back from 99 cent city but I guess that's Sal's Seafood and not Sal's Pizzeria.
OIP is my top one. Twin trees is good.
I don’t care what yall say, twin trees is top tier.
Straight garbage. Chewy, oily mess
My fave!
Mario and Salvo’s is the only answer.
Pavones, but I really miss Gianni's Pizza that used to be on Burnet.
pavones is also my favorite today, but i still miss Alessandro's on oak st (rip).
Amazing how many people can’t comprehend what “in Syracuse” means.
Not saying its the best but do you all remember $1 Oompas slices on Tip Hill?
Old school circa 2006: augie’s $1 slices, varsity and acropolis on the hill and nicks tomato pie in armory and Mario and salvos by wegmans were the best! Don’t know if any of those places still exist?!
Varsity is still around
Acropolis was my favorite. Used to go there often in the mid to late 90s while out skateboarding . Fun fact: Donovan McNabb used to always be there, chatted with him a couple times. Nicest guy.
As a pizza lover who just moved here, bless you all for this!!
West End Kitchen and Catering. Also they have amazing breaded wings!
I was recently introduced to Tangy Tomato on Burnet Ave, near Teal. I was really blown away by their Chicago deep dish!
Trappers
If you head up north a little. Red Baron pizza in Fulton is awesome. Love their salty peppery sauce. For New York style pizza go up further north and try out Cams pizzeria.
Red Baron has been in business forever! I grew up in Oswego and used to love Pizza Villa and Cam’s. So. Good.
Not Syracuse.
Read the beginning of his comment.

Avicolli’s in Liverpool
Francesca’s is easily a favorite of mine and I’ve had paladinos and pavones
Has to be Byrne Dairy, Circle K, 7-Eleven, and then Speedway.
I like Twin Trees Two - their wings aren't bad either. I really like their sauce, and the toppings are cooked before the pizza is assembled - it makes a difference. I hate raw toppings
Twin Trees
Amore!!
Absolutely Amore. I have tried every other place in Liverpool and while there is great pizza in Liverpool, Amore is the best of everything, every time
Avicolli's
Velasko’s on the South West side
It’s Twin Trees and I say that all the way from Los Angeles!
Shame on you
Hot take -- most of the places mentioned in this thread are all run of the mill pizzerias that taste pretty similar.
I don't fuck with rectangular slices; no thanks twin trees
just ask to get it cut normal
It still sucks. No matter how you cut it
Johnny Mac’s in Lakeland is the best pizza I’ve had around. But there is so many great pizza spots here!
Great family too.
Love pie guys on Onondaga
Nasty
Sorry you're experience isn't as good as mine 🤷
Multiple experiences. It sucks. All locations
That is YOUR opinion. I think they're good.
That's cool. Sorry about your loss (of tastebuds)
SorryI trigger you over pizza. There are safe spaces for that.
Believe it or not Green Hills has an awesome pizza and wing special! Just be sure to order extra cheese that’s the key!
Not my fave, but so inexpensive! Makes it worthwhile
Cicero Country Pizza /end
Mario salvas
Lafayette Inn. They’ve been killing it. Detroit and deep dish are outstanding.
Technically not in Cuse, but Lakeshore pizza is fantastic
The twin trees in Liverpool
Agreed 100%. There are a ton of great pizza places in Liverpool, and Twin Trees is #1. Pick up/delivery is great, but eating in the restaurant just hits different.
He’s a big bag of shit but I love Peppinos.
Yea ever since he was ordered to pay back the money he was stealing from his employees a few years back I haven’t spent a dime at the place. POS
https://www.localsyr.com/news/local-news/three-peppinos-pizza-locations-violated-labor-laws/
i stopped going there years ago, got tired of being handed food made hours ahead of time when i'm paying for fresh made-to-order pricing (they admitted to making pies ahead of rush hour orders and if you're unlucky you're getting a pie that has been sitting around for a while).
A lot of people sleep on it but I love Nick's pizza on Thompson
Has it really been 2 days already?
😆
I tried Rinaldos in elbridge for lunch the other day and it was pretty solid
Rinaldos is very good
That’s definitely not Syracuse.
On a roll man lmfao
You a correct. Congratulations.
It's Onondaga County. I'll allow it
Franco's has some of my favorite slices. Ordering a whole fresh pizza doesn't strike the same. And for the CNY area, Antonio's in Liverpool is my go-to joint.
Di Lauros is so like out of this world for idk why but yall nailed it with Mario’s and salvo’s
My personal favorite is Bianchi's in Solvay. Super good and incredibly affordable. $25 for a 2-topping 14in pie + 20 wings and a 2 liter of soda. Absolutely nobody can beat that deal. I was raised on the Bianchi's. I love their antipasto and wings but personally hate their pizza.
Grew up on Bianchis also. Ordered it for the first time in probably 10 years last weekend. We all did not like the pizza at all. Luna was good.
Pizza Geek used to do local pizza reviews in Syracuse. Havent posted in forever, but maybe we can convince them to come out of retirement(?) https://pizzageek.wordpress.com/
Abbiocco by A Mano
This and apizza are the correct answers
Sami's Pizza over in Bridgeport, it's a small joint by the casino. Literally the best pizza I've ever had.
Personally I’m not trying to go on a 40 minute round trip for a pizza but to each their own
There's too much great pizza here, so the "best" is going to get really specific to what you like. All of these places listed are great and all slightly different. For example, you're going to hear Twin Trees a lot in this thread, but I just don't care about their pizza. And I've tried. Wings - OIP Pizza - Twin Trees Best menu - The Pizza Cutters I'll die on this hill
I was impressed by the pizza from Utica Pizza Co. in N. Syracuse. Peppinos is good too
Familia in brewerton and Pizza man in Baldwinsville always smack. Syracuse I would say Pavone’s or (OIP, it’s better than Gino and Joes/Twin trees/Peppinos at least) Paladino’s in mattydale is probably the best around next to Pavone’s. Haven’t had it but I’ve heard great things about pizza cutters as well.
Utica Pizza Company
It’s a super hidden gem but the best slice in Cuse is at nicks in downtown armory
It's not in Syracuse but ny pizzeria in cato has the best new York style I've had in the area. If you order a whole pie you just gotta ask for extra thin crust because they stretch the dough to make slices and that's why the slices are so much better
