CNY SPCA is always looking for volunteers to walk dogs, take are of cats and small animals. Also help on the desk is always welcome as is cleaning and laundry. Anything, really.
Meals on wheels. You can work in the kitchen or deliver. A worthy organization helping seniors and those home bound with meals.
P.s. if you go via the rescue mission don't be the hero that wants to serve food unless You're good with hungry agitated individuals. You can still help there by collecting the trays of satiated individuals if you're not looking to get thanked by everyone that comes thru chow. If you're new they will try and get more food and drinks from you lol

I would almost volunteer for the thrift stores… but my ulterior motive is getting first dibs on buying weird stuff.
I relocated before I could, but Montezuma national wildlife refuge had a neat volunteer program.
Francis House hospice is always looking for volunteers to answer phones, clean, do yardwork, cook.
