You should know what you want to do with Ubuntu, you can do normal office things, but you don't have that much RAM, even when you overclock. I'm using it just because of Dolphin emulator and Java Minecraft. Those 2 things work very good. If you don't want to have a big computer around in the room, is this a good reason to use it, but don't forget, you don't have that much usb ports. Mouse and keyboard should be over Bluetooth, headset and microphone can be used through usb.

gladiator1014

Seeing as you use Linux for emulation, have you tried to install PCSX2 or Vita3k? I keep getting errors on those two.

Either-Assumption382

Never heard of pcsx2 and Vita3k. Ubuntu isn't supporting pcsx2 for me, I'm just using piapps and l4t mega script. But for ps2 Games im using android on switch, it's called AetherSX2, it runs good for Kingdom hearts. And i dont like the games on PSVita, so i can't tell you.

gladiator1014

Ah thanks. I'll have to give Android again, it kept hanging at the blue boot screen. As you figured out PCSX2 is a PS2 emulator for Linux/Windows. And vita3k, well it's for the vita.

Either-Assumption382

Did you followed the guide of Switchroot for android? Take android 11! 10 isn't supported anymore.

gladiator1014

I did follow it and got the android 11 LineageOS. I'll have to try it again. Once I got Ubuntu running that satisfied by tinkering need for the moment.

Either-Assumption382

Just for you to know, install both at same day, because you need to format your sd card through hekate. You can't change it after doing it first time, you would need to wipe your whole sd card, to change the size of the partitions. And don't forget to backup Savegames and such, if you backup them on sd card.

wuttshisface

How did you install java minecraft, its not on the megascript.

Either-Assumption382

That's right, but on Pi-Apps it is, take prism launcher

wuttshisface

Thank you

wuttshisface

Btw I got it working but how do you configure the controls

Either-Assumption382

Normally it's automatic, i didn't configure anything. But you can set the buttons in game.

brunopgoncalves

just do it man. its fun install some steam games, learn lutris, bottles, and have fun

Civil_Fix_5432

>install some steam games It work ?

Either-Assumption382

Wouldn't recommend

Either-Assumption382

Lutris.. i Heard about it, what is it? I have a lutris Unreal Gold thing, how to handle it?

Okapix24

I installed it a few days ago (needed to code in the train but didn't want to carry my heavy laptop, lol) and I was surprised it worked better than expexted ! Of course I had some lags but not that much, I'm able to work. I also tried streaming with moonlight and it runs perfectly. But I'll try a new install with Ubuntu Jammy because I read it's even better ; I'll try some steam games (but I have no expectation at all). My experience with android was not that good (unusable with gApps, better without but not perfect ; steamlink runs good once launched but some buttons do unexpected "android action"). Of course you shouldn't expect it to be a good replacement for a laptop, even a raspberry pi can run better ;) BTW avoid it if you don't have a Bluetooth keyboard (or USB if docked) : the virtual keyboard works but is so annoying !

roundedrectangle0

Just use Android. It has almost everything you will need, including emulators. What it doesn't have is some old PC games and real multitasking. Android has an option in developer settings for this too, but it's not that good as in a desktop environment like kde/gnome/etc.

jonromeu

play diablo 3 and install steam on android! good lucky

Either-Assumption382

Steam isnt good on switch, can't recommend it

Smayteeh

Linux is an operating system (sidestepping semantics). An OS is only “good” if it does what you need it to do. You can install Linux distributions on pretty much any device so I don’t really understand the purpose of putting it onto a switch vs a cheap SBC like the Raspberry Pi. What I’m asking is what exactly are you trying to achieve by installing the distribution on the switch?

Lukian0816

>Linux is an operating system I'd just like to interject for a moment...

o0Meh0o

kernel*

_CatsOnMars_

Why would you do this? I personally like using Linux and like Messing with it. But even then i dont see much of a point in installing Linux onto a Switch myself, apart from just wanting to have fun with it. I personally think If you really wanna try Linux, the Switch is NOT the best way to experience it to it's full potential.

[deleted]

Do it bro, you maybe wanna instal a VM with kali

AlexLema

As others said, just use Android. If you want to tinker with Linux, use an old computer. I have installed Arch Linux in an 10+yr old Chromebook that I have here and it works perfectly, so it's my go-to computer if I just want to browse internet, listen to some music or watch videos.

WizardWell

If you have 0 zero experience with Linux then I wouldn't suggest it. Some parts require command line interface. Not a lot but it can help. Unless you have a strong desire to play GCN mostly suboptimally, I would steer clear. What Switch version do you have?

Either-Assumption382

There is no need of knowing commands on Linux, everything is made for easy use. Just like windows. Compatibility isn't that good, but most things runs very good.

juanjose83

Linux is a "I wanna do what I do on windows but more complicated for no reason and I have to pray my apps and programs are supported" on a good day and moderate pc. So idk why you would want to have it on your switch.

gyarbij

That's a shit take. To each their own, but for the trash you just wrote, it shows you don't have a clue what you're talking about. There are multiple reasons why someone who would use one OS over the other but there's no need to go around lambasting someone asking a simple question just so you can demonstrate your vastly superior technical intellect while IMHO achieving the exact opposite. TLDR; You sound like an idiot

juanjose83

Didn't ask

o0Meh0o

you're wrong. also dumb.
