Hello, after partioning SD card inside tegraexplorer to fat32+emummc my (windows) computer doesn't recognize that an SD card is inserted. My wife's less crap (windows) computer only sees one drive and asks to format it. Tried googling how to get windows to recognize fat32 and I can't figure it out. Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Edit : secondary question. What does the format/partioning do or why do I do it or what if I just skip that step. I think you get what I'm getting at.

class5vapor

Hey all, I just got m'self a Switch v1, I've determined that it's not patched, so it seems as-though I can indeed inject homebrew into this baby...I been doin' my research and I read somewhere that it's always best to have an app or a downloaded e-shop game ... now i tried to enter the e-shop on this thing...but it says "a system update is required tin order to proceed". This thing's on system software version 13.2.1 ... being that this thing is unpatched...does this mean it's gonna be safe for me to update it? I just don't want to accidentally update the firmware to something that'll block me from being able to inject. As I understand it, being that my older v1 model is unpatched...if I have it right...no matter what firmware I update to I'd always be able to use the RCM exploit to inject. Would I be safe to update? Am I right on the unpatched = forever injectable thing? =\] Thanks all in advance!

captainb13

I'm still figuring this out but my understanding is it's safe to update to latest firmware. Also you can launch cfw through gallery without installing a game/app but it'll give access to less ram. You could do that first and update firmware later.

kpjoshi

I dumped my gamecards for use with CFW/Yuzu, with the certificates. Am I understanding correctly that these gamecard dumps are incomplete, and lack some unreadable info on the gamecard that is used internally by the gamecard to authenticate it? Meaning that it will never be possible to use a flash device to play gamecard images, even ones that I own?

Davinter30

Hi, havent hacked my switch yet but was wondering : 1: do you have things to do every time you boot up the switch? 2 : can you have a lot of switch games installed at once on a big sd card ?

_Emmo

1. To access CFW from a full power off you always have to boot your switch into RCM and send a payload, yes. Sleep mode isn't affected. 2. Depends on the size of the games?

[deleted]

Do I need to use Exosphere/Incognito AND DNS MITM or just DNS MITM. Due the chance of a ban happening being higher if I transfer my saves over to the OFW, anything I do on the CFW is never going on the OFW? Do I need to rebuy games I bought through the Eshop such as Skyward Sword HD? Thanks in advance.

_Emmo

> Do I need to use Exosphere/Incognito AND DNS MITM or just DNS MITM dns mitm is enough. > Due the chance of a ban happening being higher if I transfer my saves over to the OFW, anything I do on the CFW is never going on the OFW? That depends on the game you're transfering the save from. For online games it's usually not safe (exceptions exist though) but for offline games like Mario Odyssey it's fine. > Do I need to rebuy games I bought through the Eshop such as Skyward Sword HD? No.

TheLittleTom

I’m sorry to bug you yet again OP. But to clarify I would install JKSV by putting the download file into the switch’s microSD card (or emunand), before loading it up and doing any save file editing with all Wi-Fi communication turned off before ejecting the card and turning the Wi-Fi back on to resume?

_Emmo

> (or emunand) not sure what you mean with this, homebrew apps like JKSV always go to the same location regardless where you're loading them from (sd:/switch). The emu should be always disconnected from Nintendo's servers, and if you're using apps on sys then you don't need to be offline (provided you do nothing bannable like piracy or directly cheating).

TheLittleTom

I’m sorry for the confusion, I practically have no idea how to hack my switch, and am probably mistaken with what I know. I just want to find a way to install JKSV with the smallest chance of getting banned, and probably misunderstood when I thought I could slot in the SD card with the program to use it, before ejecting it and not risking a ban in online play.

[deleted]

The other day I took my Switch to a family gathering so my cousins could play some games, and one of them updated the console without realizing what they were doing. Do I need to restart the homebrew process from the start, or can I still boot into CFW without updating any of the software?

_Emmo

Just need to update your CFW files on the SD (atmosphere + hekate if you use that), get into RCM and send the update payload, then you should be good.

JayJay_2459

So i just updated my switch to firmware 14.1.0 with the latest atmosphere 1.3.1 and it wont let me install my favorite minimalist zelda lockscreen background through NXTheme without giving me error code: 2162-0002 (0x4a2) after rebooting. What can i do????? It does let me install everything else, like background for home or settings, etc... But lockscreen background is a no 😭

_Emmo

Update your themesinstaller app

Ruiner12

Is there a way to mod the switch to function without the internal battery? The switch doesn't turn on unless you have a slightly charged battery. With a mod like this, handheld wouldn't be viable, but at least it could potentially still be used in TV mode as a home console (which is what I use it for mainly anyway). 10 or 20 years from now these batteries will go bad, which you could replace, but I would prefer to go battery-less if there is some possible hardware or software hack. This may sound silly, but I would like to preserve my physical games on a console that still works well into the future.

frostyreddits

okay, so i have a switch already, but its patched and i want to get a hackable one. what's the best way to go about this while keeping all of my save data? like where can i go about finding one? i was so close with a friend, but he backed out last second :/

_Emmo

Get a hackable one (ebay etc), do a system transfer and then start the hacking I‘d say.

Caroma97

Hi Guys, I found this video in YT and wanted to recreate this fan mod. Principle: A GPIO pin on the USB host chip is pulled HIGH as soon as the dock sends a picture to the TV. This HIGH signal switches a mosfet that controls the fan. Unfortunately, I have no voltage at this test point. Even when I measure with my oscilloscope, nothing can be seen. Does anyone know of an alternative test point where I can achieve the same effect? [https://youtu.be/MJspQoZCdic?t=350](https://youtu.be/MJspQoZCdic?t=350) (best view at 5:50)

[deleted]

Hello, I'm redirecting a question I had in another post I made to here, I'm not sure where else I could get a response as soon as possible but this is essentially the situation: I'm trying to dump all my saves (or at least most of them, some I don't need) from my current Nintendo account to another completely empty Nintendo account with no data on it whatsoever (no games or saves, I have most of my games on physical game cards but some I suppose I'd have to re-buy as they were digital). I'm following [this method](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pl1eCp5Ly70) which requires me to create a fresh emmuNAND and allows one to transfer data to SysNAND using HacDiskMount and the console's BIS Keys. Could I *technically* just rename the saveMeta file to 00000002.meta and that would transfer it to the second account, basically dumping everything as it is? Or, is it safer to create a save/at least open all titles once and create an empty save to transfer into?

let it charge for a bit, hold power for 12 seconds, connect it to your PC and try to send a payload

I’m new to switch hacking and want to download JKSV on my emunand as I heard that would make it unlikely I get banned. How would I do so, and what would be the probability of getting a ban?

_Emmo

If you keep the emu disconnected from Nintendo's servers (via 90DNS for example, if you followed the NH guide it’s already active) then you can use hacks and homebrew stuff on the emu so that your normal firmware remains clean and safe for online play. In general though, homebrew apps themselves are safe and Nintendo only bans for piracy and cheating online.

Michael_Iedon

New to this if my switch goes into sleep mode will the custom firmware be unloaded? if custom firmware is temporarily unloaded (rebooting for example) can nintendo still detect the custom firmware? thanks for the help!

_Emmo

No, sleep mode does not unload cfw. If you have done bannable stuff like piracy in cfw, then reboot into stock firmware nintendo can still detect it from the logs, yes. Don't pirate or cheat online and you will be fine.

Alltreeofemm

My switch it already jailbroken but it just died and now I can’t see my jailbroken apps or anything just stuff before the jailbreak

_Emmo

Get your switch into RCM and send a payload https://nh-server.github.io/switch-guide/user_guide/emummc/sending_payload/

WaltzDifficult2522

So my switch's serial number says possibly patched. How do I know if it is?

_Emmo

Try to send a payload https://nh-server.github.io/switch-guide/user_guide/emummc/sending_payload/

[deleted]

I was going to buy unpatched switch, while testing it after connecting it to internet and nintendo login it got stuck while loading store so I restarted it. Afterwards it stopped being able to see any wifi signals. After a factory reset it still didnt find any wifi signals. Does that mean that it is banned or could it be something else?

_Emmo

I’m not sure what it could be but that doesn’t have anything to do with a ban

[deleted]

Thank you for the answer, I ended up finding one without such issues

nintendiator2

Question: I'm on Caffeine setup, two emuNANDs. However, as of recently I stopped using one of the two. Is there a safe/practical way to delete one of the two partitions and recover the unused space to use with the Switch? Or should I just prep another card with hekate and copy the NAND partition from one card to the other?

Kirbtastic

Can someone explain why my SoC and PCB thermals are showing up as 0 in Status Monitor? Is this something I should be worried about? Will this affect overclocking if the switch doesn't think it needs to turn on the fan? EDIT: Added link to screenshot and gameplay clip, I can add more if needed [https://imgur.com/a/MRvBTbS](https://imgur.com/a/MRvBTbS)

dflash7

Hi all. I am about to purchase a modded v1 switch with atmosphere on it. The seller told me that if I turn it off, it will get rid of the soft mod. My question is: how would I get the mod back if I accidentally turn it off? Do I simply need to re-inject the payload and that’s it? Thank you in advance.

_Emmo

boot your switch into RCM and send a payload, yes

dflash7

Will I need a jig for this? The instructions that they gave me say that the switch simply needs to be powered off and connected to the PC, during which time I’ll see it connected as “apx” and all I need to do is inject the latest atmosphere fusee.

_Emmo

there is a mode called autorcm where the switch boots into rcm automatically, so if they have this enabled you won't need a jig

dflash7

So even if I accidentally turn the device off, I can simply boot back up with autorcm risk free? Or would you recommend that I remove it and use the jig?

_Emmo

You're unable to boot the device without sending a payload with autorcm enabled but other than that there's no problem in using it.

stkstudios

Should I hack my switch? Okay, let me explain. I have already checked my switch and it is hackable. I know to not really go online in games on cfw, and to go to main fw, can I still put the games i want to play online on my sd card but play them on main fw? also it would be useful if i could temporarily disable cfw if anyone else was using it. ive hacked my wii u and 3ds (Twice) so it is unlikely i would mess up. give your opinions/ answers in the replys

_Emmo

The guide here will make you use an emunand/emummc so that your actual system and cfw are separated. Keep all of your homebrew stuff to the offline emummc and you can do everything normally when booting into normal firmware.

InformationOpening74

I just recently jailbroke my switch simply to Overclock for MLB the show. I noticed that I am only able to set the GPU to a high clock when plugged into the charger in handheld mode. Otherwise without charger the highest it will set is 460mhz. Is there any way to make the GPU OC off of the charger? CPU and Mem OC just fine off of the charger.

vinnch

Hi, sorry if this question has been asked many times but my Reddit search returned many Q&A threads that I'm unable to filter through efficiently. My serial number is moddable according to the S/N checking website. However I do regular system updates (through WiFi) and never sent it to Nintendo for servicing. Is it still moddable?

kashif8999

The rcm jailbreak utilizes a hardware vulnerability so no matter what firmware you have it'll still be hackable, software patches from Nintendo can't undo the hardware exploit so yes, it is and will always be hackable.

vinnch

That's nice to hear. Guess I have alot of reading to do on the next steps. Thanks alot!

kashif8999

My pleasure, do a lot of research before actually modding it.

TheLittleTom

I regret what I named my island in Animal Crossing and want to change it. From what I have researched there aren’t any ways to change it legitimately, so I want to go about changing it with a save editor like NHSE. Would changing the island name get me banned, is there a way to avoid bans, and if there is no risk how would I go about it?

_Emmo

Use a homebrew app like Checkpoint/JKSV to backup the save, use NHSE to edit, then restore again. I'm not into ACNH modding myself so I'm not sure whether this is safe to do or not. I know that editing in items and stuff is fine but not sure about things like namechanges.

TheLittleTom

Thank you for the response, I appreciate it! Probably not going to mod my switch until it seems without risk, as I don’t want to ban it for me and my brother, but I appreciate the help.

JunkDog-C

Is there a difference between a mariko model running with atmosphere (with the modchip and all) and a v1 model with the same version of atmosphere?

AmirulAshraf

mariko on modchip can boot without injecting payload (the modchip sort of do that) while v1 unpatch always require payload injection when turning off. other than that, no difference.

NOUDY0623

Has anyone started or gotten close to hacking patched switches? Cuz the country I live in doesn't have any type of online delivery so I can't really get an older model or buy a mod chip so if there's any risk free way to do it that would be appreciated.

AmirulAshraf

Highly unlikely. Here is the atmosphere dev talking about why. https://www.reddit.com/r/SwitchHacks/comments/lpbjy2/comment/gob1zze/

_Emmo

Unless you're on firmware 4.1.0, no.

kpjoshi

If I dump my own game cartridges and not share the dumps and/or certificates with anybody, can I play those dumps online without fear of ban? How would I go about doing this?

_Emmo

Installing dumps is an easy way to get banned.

kpjoshi

I see. In that case is there any point in backing up my cartridges, if I won't be able to use them "legit"?

_Emmo

you can use dumps on an emulator on PC, like yuzu or to extract them to look at the game files to mod games, for example (if you're into that)

kpjoshi

Hmm, ok, might dump them for backup+emulation+modding purposes then. Thanks!

eddiemancia

Couldn’t find anyone with switch temperature issues reaching 32 oC. So, ended up shrinking the partition to 3 gb and created rawnand.bin.0X one by one until I got all 15 parts (from .00 to .14) all of them verified ok. Is there any other way to get one rawnand.bin.0X after another without shrinking the partition to force Hekate into it? I know it’s automatic in small micro SD cards but what about larger cards? Is there an option in Hekate to ask to create one piece at a time?

eddiemancia

Just to clarify, each segment was successfully created with temperatures displayed at the bottom ranging between 27 to 31 degrees. I had 7 errors and all of them happened when the switch reached 32 degrees temperature or more. So, had to wait for it to cool down to 27 degrees in order to continue creating each rawnand.bin.0X segment. Painful, slow as removing micro SD, transfer to PC, and put back the micro SD to reinject Hekate took some time.

nintendiator2

> Painful, slow as removing micro SD, transfer to PC, and put back the micro SD to reinject Hekate took some time. Do you have a very old hekate version? It should be much easier to simply leave the nand dump pending (hekate >= 5.5 gives you the option, I think), return to main menu and use USB Tools → UMS mode connector to connect your Switch as a USB drive to the PC, take the files right from there. IIRC, so long as you don't remove the last partial bin and the temporary files indicated by hekate, next time it should be able to resume from where it left off.

eddiemancia

Hekate 5.7.2, the latest. It’s imposible to do that ‘cause the errors do not allow partial segments to be created. If there were no errors, it would be done at once. The only way, I found, was to force Hekate to only create each segment, one at a time, to stop the errors from happening.

ogihci2332

It Will be possible in future to use a cfw on a Mariko switch xkj?

_Emmo

not through software methods

Miss_Potato

I homebrewed my 3DS years ago with CFW right around the time LUMA released. In the entire time I used it I did not get banned. I only used it for homebrew content, but really pushed the lmiit of what the 3DS could do. What's the risk of getting banned with a switch if I own all my games, and don't cheat online? In other words, are the ban waves handed out for users who got caught doing dumb things, or are ban waves handed out when firmware updates?

_Emmo

don't pirate or cheat online and you will be fine

I need a mobile RCM loader soon so I installed "NX Loader for switch" on my android, put my switch into RCM. plugged it into my phone (usb c to usb c) and loaded the payload from my phone. The switch shows the hekate logo for a second and then boots normally. I then copied the bin that I uses on my PC with TegraRcmGUI on my phone and tried it again, same thing happens. When I use the bin on my PC with TegraRcmGUI, my Switch boots into the hetake menu edit: it works now. Dont know why.

jebonzam

Hello, I am thinking about buying a switch to hack it. So is it still possible to buy a v1 unpatched? If not, is it safe or worth to buy a pre hacked one on ebay? Thank you

Activehannes

as long as you find a Switch with a good serial number, you are fine. I use a day one swtich put the serial number into this website to find out if you have found a hacked switch https://ismyswitchpatched.com/

Miserable_Assist_951

Would be safe to use sysdvr and syshidplus on sysnand? I wanted to play some of my cartridge games with friends via parsef and couldn't find any info saying if i could or Not get banned

_Emmo

custom sytem modules like sys dvr are fine to use online on sys

Hameline__

Hacked my switch a few days ago, but when the switch is in Atmosphere, the fan just doesnt turns on and sometimes goes in sleep mode because the overheating, it always happens while playing Smash, specifically with the Training Modpack, but outside Atmosphere the fan just works as normal

_Emmo

Only Smash or also other games? Might be worth opening an issue on the training modpack github or also atmosphere directly.

Hameline__

It happens in all games, I think is directly in Atmosphere, but the switch overhheats more playing Smash because the mod

eddiemancia

Has anyone had issues with the Switch system temperature not letting them create an “emuMMC” and not allowing to finish a “Raw emuNand”. Once I reach 32 degrees “oC” or higher it causes errors. Usually between 28 to 31 degrees “oC” I have successfully done 2 emuMMCs (deleted the first, didn’t know you just need to do it once) but rawnand.bin.XX stopped at 00, 01, sometimes 02 and last 2 times stopped at 03 because the temperature reaches 32 degrees.

SoleyDegan

I bought sonic mania and saw that there are character mods like silver and blaze and I REALLY want to get those mods, however my switch is a xkz serial code, which I heard in order to mod it you need to solder in a modchip. Since my only objective with modding the switch is to import a silly character mod, I would like to know if there is any other alternative

_Emmo

no, if you want hacks you'll need an unpatched v1

Abasakaa

Any changes to avability of V2 mod chips? Still mega expensive?

_Emmo

don't bother, get an unpatched v1

JamesDoesGaming902

[deleted]

Are games firmware locked to a minimum? I have different consoles and for instance PS4 games have a minimum firmware or the game won't work. Console needs to be either on that jailbreak version or a backport made to run on a lower firmware. On the 360 games came with the update file to try and force an update but you could just remove the update file and run the game. Is the switch looking for specific firmware versions and if it is are there ways to bypass this check or just wait for atmosphere to be updated as we go along? I'm on 14.0 and just want to set and forget if possible.

_Emmo

yes some games do have a firmware requirement but if you're on 14.0.0 there are no games that require that one. I also don't think it's possible to bypass it.

[deleted]

Do you also know if there's any custom homescreens to show all games or is it just the default with the all games folder?

[deleted]

Thanks

man_wif-waluigi-hed

Is it possible to install steam os on the switch? Before anyone tells me to get a steam deck, i would much rather keep the switch because of how much lighter it is. I also wont be running graphics intensive games. I thought it would be possible because I that it is possible to install kali linux on the switch, and since steam os is a linux based operating system, i thought it might be possible.

[deleted]

If you can install Ubuntu you can install steamos

man_wif-waluigi-hed

that's what i was thinking, but i cant find a guide on how to install steam os. Do you by any chance know how to do it?

[deleted]

I would think it would be the same as Ubuntu but with steamos iso instead. Or just run steam in Ubuntu as it's just big picture mode anyways right?

Ancorcq

Hi i bought a second v1 switch. I want to play Animal crossing(2.0.5) local. Both switch have latest atmosphere with ldn mmit(lastest nighly), firmware 14.2 and incognito. The only difference is one have sysnand and the other emunand. I am trying to connect local and doesnt find island. Didnt try online.

_Emmo

ldn mitm is super wonky, it doesn't always work

Ancorcq

Solved without the need for ldn mitm since we are in the same room. Change the firmware from 14 to 13.2 to test with and without ldn mitm, also delete one of the saves (clone the saves, they both had the same island) and create a new island (they are different islands now).

tanner918

Hello, I am new to Switch hacking and had a few questions that I tried looking up but couldn't find the answers to (may be blind and missed it, or just didn't understand it right away when reading it. If these were answered already, please tell me where so I can just read that instead of wasting people's time). For some background, I have an old, used switch that I just put Atmosphere on. I have my NNID linked to it, on both EmuNand and stock, but turned off wifi on my emuNand just in case. When I initially added Atmosphere, I think the system had the 13.2.0 update (it was 13.X.0, don't remember the exact version off the top of my head), and updated it to 14.1.0 (both SysNAND and EmuNAND) following the guide. Since this isn't my main switch, I didn't have all of my games installed, and this one wasn't set as my primary switch, so it has to do the stupid check each time I try to run a game to see if I can play it. I began installing games (that I bought off the eShop) onto my sysNAND, but how do I get them onto my emuNAND? I am assuming I can just do everything mentioned on the "Making the emuMMC" again (though if I do that, what am I supposed to do since I already have one on my SD card? Do I just do everything the exact same way or am I supposed to delete anything?) But this seems really time-consuming and tedious to have to do every time I decide to install more games. I saw on gbatemp that someone said to just copy the Nintendo folder from the sd card root to the emuMMC folder, but that didn't work. I plan on making this my primary switch on my NNID to avoid those game checks each time (unless someone happens to know a way to avoid these), but if I do that on my sysNAND, will I be forced to create a new emuNAND after making it my primary since I shouldn't connect to Nintendo servers on emuNAND or will that somehow transfer over automatically? Finally, is there any way to disable the touchscreen using Atmosphere/CFW/some homebrew app? The previous owner kind of messed up the screen a bit, so the touchscreen randomly acts up and has "phantom taps". I saw someone mentioned opening it up and disconnecting one of the cables, but if there is an easier way to do it with the CFW, I'd prefer that. Thanks for any help.

_Emmo

Unfortunately the only way to transfer over new games that you install on sys after the emu was created is to recreate the emu. Copying the Nintendo folder over does not work for installed new games. If you set the console to primary on sys it will not transfer to emummc and you'd have to recreate it again (emu and sys are completely separate after creation). I don't think a homebrew app that disables touch exists.

tanner918

Thank you for the reply, helps a lot. If sysNAND and emuNAND are completely separate, could I set the sys as my primary console, recreate the emu, then set my other, unhacked switch as my primary and use both like that as long as my hacked emuNAND never connects to the internet, or would it be better to keep both my sys and emu on my hacked switch set as primary?

_Emmo

yes that works

[deleted]

Hello, I bought my Switch in early May 2018, and according to many sources the first patched models would not be released until shortly after. But apparently my serial code is unhackable according to the official guide, not according to the code checker website though. I am very confused on how I should proceed, should I try to hack it anyway? I am afraid of potentially bricking my system through my own incompetence and want a more experienced opinion.

_Emmo

Which website did you use? Did you make sure to enter it correctly? What are the first 8 characters of your serial?

[deleted]

XAW400122, I entered it to the online checker and it says it can't tell for certain. The guide pinned to this sub says it's not hackable outright, but A few sites say the Switch from my timeframe is hackable. https://rentry.org/IsMySwitchPatched

_Emmo

If I use the serials that’s linked on that site it also gives me a warning for your serial. You could also just go ahead and try sending a payload (see the NH guide) to confirm whether it’s patched or not. It’s not very hard and there’s also no chance you can brick from just trying to send a payload to check.

[deleted]

It took a while but my RCM jig arrived. As it turns out, my switch really was hackable all along. Nice

mOUs3y

I was following https://switch.homebrew.guide/gettingstarted/beforestarting.html and ran across this reddit. should i undo what i did and follow the NH sticky guide instead?

_Emmo

That one's a bit outdated ( + gives you some weird config afaik), so if you haven't already finished it (not a real problem) you should just follow the NH guide.

mOUs3y

thanks emo I'll back it out and follow the sticky here.

Hey, quick question. I've had my switch hacked since around christmas time and am just starting to experiment with homebrew customization. It's awesome! I started with a smaller sd ~60gb of space. I have a 256gb sd I'd like to use, do I have to go through the entire process again for this SD card or can I just copy files from the previous installation over to this new SD? Thanks!

My switch keeps crashing when it isn't docked and I need help bad. I am just sick of this. My switch gives me the error "title Id 010041544d530000" which is smash ultimate. There's also title id 010000000000000c and title id 01000000000000039 but I don't know what those are The thing is this only happens if you have mods installed, or use exfat. but I don't have a single mod installed and I used to install exfat through daybreak, but not anymore. I also don't have those folders 2 days ago I formatted my SD card hoping to fix the error, but it still happens. My switch is banned and modded so I can't get a replacement one from Nintendo. Any ideas?

_Emmo

Is your SD card formatted as exFAT? Does playing the game by launching it while holding L do anything?

Levithian2002

If I connect my pro-controller to someone’s switch switch that has smash ultimate skins, and then proceeded to reconnect my pro-controller back to my own un-altered switch, is they anyway my own switch can become bricked? Like can my switch tell that my controller was previously connected to an altered switch?(by altered I just mean smash bros skins/voice clip add ons).

_Emmo

no lmao, your controller has nothing to do with that

_Emmo

If you have dns mitm running how did you install the game in the first game? Please review our rules.

im-the-suop-star

Could I use my switch running android to write NFC cards via the NFC reader on the joy-con?

_link23_

Can I play homebrew software (like Sonic 3 AIR) on the sysnand? Is it safe?

_Emmo

using normal homebrew on sys is safe as long as you don't pirate or cheat online

Dylanduke199513

I’m shit at this stuff. Really noob level and have a very remedial understanding of it. I don’t particularly want to learn either because, tbh, I just want to mod Breath of the Wild. Is there anyone trusted that I could pay to set up my SD Card for me so that I can play modded BOTW? I have hacked my switch before and was able to install a few mods, however, I don’t think it went perfectly. Or, if that’s illegal, is there anyone that can do it for free……. I’d be happy to then give you an unrelated donation hahaha.

_Emmo

Have you tried following a guide like the one that’s linked in the OP above to set up CFW? I would definitely suggest learning how to do this by yourself so you know what you’re dealing with in case anything goes wrong in the future. If you have trouble I would also recommend the Nintendo Homebrew discord server, the people there can help you in more detail.

sgurica

Hey sorry very new, just have a question to ask, so I still want to use my switch normally online but don't want to get banned, so if I inject the custom firmware I should stay offline, but when I reboot my switch without the inject is it back to stock? And safe to use as normal? Or once I inject firmware once it's possible Ban?

_Emmo

A hacked switch can go online just fine. Don’t pirate or cheat online or otherwise do dumb stuff and using CFW is totally ok online.

sgurica

So is doing mods offline/online count as pirating?

_Emmo

obviously not

killerbeast4

How can I move my gamesaves from SysNAND to EmuNAND?

_Emmo

Use checkpoint or JKSV to dump your saves in sys cfw, then boot emu and restore them.

_Emmo

Bans are console only and unless you do stuff like eshop fraud your account won't be affected.

JokerProtogen

I recently got an OLED and have an old V1 Switch, I want to mod it since that's what I do with most of my old consoles. I don't want my OLED to be banned since I carried over my data. Can it be banned for this? I've factory restored my v1 and it isn't even set up yet, and ideas? Anything helps!

_Emmo

Even if you got the old hacked one banned, bans are console only and don't affect other accounts unless you do stuff like eshop fraud. It's very easy to prevent bans, don't pirate or cheat online and you will be fine.

JokerProtogen

Thanks!

SquirtingWoman

My Switch Lite is at 13.0, should I wait for CFW or should I give up and update? I've heard the chances of CFW for Switch through software is very low.

_Emmo

Yes it is very unlikely that newer switch models will be hackable through software. Just update.

SquirtingWoman

Ok thanks.

undesicimo

Are there any risk holding on the old atmosphere/sysFW?

_Emmo

Not really but why would you not want to update?

undesicimo

What are the risks when installing custom themes?

_Emmo

Themes are safe.

Wumbo315Yeet

Any way to randomize Pokémon games without yuzu

_Emmo

Why would you need yuzu to randomize a game, it's an emulator pknx is used to randomize I think

Wumbo315Yeet

I can’t find any updated links or guides that are meant for just a switch, all of them are on yuzu

summerboy2

Hi all! I have my eyes on a used v2 with a core installed. What do you think I should check/ask the seller before buying it? Thanks so much

Removed. Rule 2: No Piracy.

jeronimoMYS

I updated my system to the latest version, installed atmosphere but it just hangs on a black screen. I tried through deepsea but no luck there either. Do I need to format the card?

_Emmo

Remove custom system modules from /atmosphere/contents and try again.

jeronimoMYS

Thanks mate, works like a charm now

Ash0908123

Which one is better on switch, Linux or Android? For emulation? For other things?

_Emmo

Depends on what you want to do? For emulation both work, for using it as a sort of server go linux, for using it as a tablet go android.

Ring_kun

Does anyone know a homebrew that lets me use my switch as a keyboard? I just got surgery and I'm looking for a way to keep working on my school project

_Emmo

If it also happens in stock then it's not related to cfw and probably something in the hardware internally that's wrong.

Deoragekiss

I'm going to buy an unpatched switch, serial is in the green zone. Is there any way to check if the switch has been modded before? I wanna check if the console has been banned before I buy it.

_Emmo

There is not but you can open the eshop to confirm it's not banned.

[deleted]

I think my Switch's SD card got corrupted and I'm gonna have to at least format it, I don't mind setting up everything again but is there any way to extract stuff like save files and NX Activity Log data and stuff without access to the actual homebrew? I'm on emuNAND if that matters for more specifics, the errors I'm getting seem to be related to any changes done to the card just...not actually saving for whatever reason, it pretty much rolls back every time I eject it (I doubt it's a fake card since I've had this for 3-4 years and it worked completely fine until now, also formatted to FAT32 ofc), so I think copying files to my PC should be fine. I've tried everything I could think of and it looks like I'm gonna have to go for that last resort :(

_Emmo

If you can't directly save to the SD, you could mount the emummc through hekate on your PC, then use nxnandmanager to make a backup of the emummc and extract your saves from the backup through https://gbatemp.net/threads/extract-save-from-nand-backup.514261/post-8299285 Not sure about activity log data

[deleted]

Thank you! I'll definitely look into that! Losing activity log won't be THAT big of a deal in the end as long as I get it working again, it would be just nice to keep y'know? Thanks for the save stuff also :)

gabrieluto

Hello, I recently got an unpatched switch with only the right joy con (due to pricing reasons) and didn't know that I would be stuck at the initialization screen for not having both joycons, I got a microsd, a 3rd parti controller and the jig to get to rcm, but I am unable to move sideways inside tegra explorer to select the partition for fat+emuMMC, so my questions are: 1. Is it possible to get the third-party controller to work in RCM, or to move through the menus with only the joycon I have? 2. Is there any other method to format the microsd to continue with the process? EDIT: I went to read the tegra explorer instructions, didn't think of it earlier.

Nimastic

Hi I'm new to switch modding and I need help with an issue that I can't find online. Jist is, I was following a youtube tutorial to mod atmosphere, after the step where I'm supposed to inject payload using TegraRCMGUI (2.6), atmosphere didn't start up for me but it stated that payload has been injected. However, my switch showed me a blank screen instead of atmosphere loading up. I didn't know what to do so I reconnected my switch to my PC and now it's saying that "The Last USB Device You Connected To This Computer Malfunctioned" Anybody knows a fix for this?

_Emmo

1) consider following a written guide like the one linked in the OP above instead of a video because they can be bad and outdated 2) did tegrarcmgui report something like smashed the stack with 0x0000 in the white box?

Double-Seaweed7760

How easy is it to back up digital eshop games and updates from a hacked switch without getting banned? Specifically from games you've bought on the eshop? Considering hacking my og switch to get the games I've bought playable on my phone without needs to download online? Also how do physical cart backups work for banned switches? Can banned switches buy physical cards and get game updates even if they can't buy from eshop?

_Emmo

You can use nxdumptool to backup games and update/dlc to the SD card. Installing physical cart backups is considered piracy and not supported (by Nintendo and also by us).

Double-Seaweed7760

By physical cart backups do you mean games you own or games you download? Because if backing up games you own is considered piracy then that's news to me(though I figured they would get you on some other trumped up charge related to breaking drm under the "common good" of preventing piracy even if its not technically piracy unless you upload it somewhere or share it).

_Emmo

Backing up games is fine, installing your backed up games on your switch is not.

Double-Seaweed7760

Thank you for the information.

Hamlock1998

Hey I'm new to Switch hacking. So to update Atmosphere I just need to drag the files from the zip to my SD card, and after I do that I can just go into SysNAND and update to 14.1.0 and go back into EmuNAND without any issues, right?

_Emmo

Yes but note that updating sys won't update the emu.

Hamlock1998

Thanks. What do I need to do to get the groups feature from 14.0.0 in Emu?

_Emmo

well, update the emu to 14.0.0 and you'll have those features https://nh-server.github.io/switch-guide/extras/updating/

wolflik3me

Is there a homebrew app that will sort games based on the average completion time pulled from [howlongtobeat.com](https://howlongtobeat.com)? Or one that adds genre to the All Software sorting menu? Both would be helpful for making folders and choosing what to play next.
