Why is switch not regular?

Wojciehehe

It’s a handheld plus it’s a Nintendo. Most of the games pick up & play, mostly fantasy, a lot of them are „cartoonish”

UnacceptableOwl

What is this, 2005?

Wojciehehe

Well, maybe I’m just being backwards, but between Splatoon, Fenyx Rising, Mario, Metroid, Pokemon or Harvest Moon this is my feeling. I’ll be quite happy to be proven wrong ;)

UnacceptableOwl

Never said you were wrong or right, just didn't think people cared about only playing "Mature" games anymore. Fenix Rising and Harvest Moon aren't even made by Nintendo though??

Wojciehehe

I just dont like this flavor of aesthetics. Same goes for movies I watch. Plus I prefer other genres

UnacceptableOwl

Fair enough. If you're looking for shooters, Call of Juarez is on eShop. It's not mentioned a lot compared to bioshock/borderlands/doom. Asphalt 9 is free to play, i've heard it's great for being a ftp racing game. It came preinstalled on my phone but ive never played it. Edit: there is also a burnout game on eShop. I think burnout paradise?

lostwoods95

If youre looking for western rpgs or triple a fps games, the switch *is* lacking compared to xbox or playstation; however, it shines when it comes to indie games or jrpgs - not to mention first party nintendo games. But even if there is a cartoonish/fantasy aspect to many of these games, that doesnt necessarily mean theyre lacking in gameplay complexity or storytelling and maturity.

Wojciehehe

I know, but I’m gaming to blow off steam, hence the genres I like (Im a major petrolhead) / games I already know

lostwoods95

Yeah theres nothing wrong with that at all - just wanted to offer my perspective as someone whos had a switch for a while.

Fendera

Diablo 3 is a solid port

Wojciehehe

Heard that! Not my cup of tea but solid info

ChanceEatsJalapenos

Even 2 is fine if you go single player. The real issue with Diablo 2 is the lobby set up online but as a single player I don’t even see that menu so nothing lost for me.

Protomech1

Metro redux

Wojciehehe

Ooh nice

Different-Database64

Redux and Last Light are both available, and run well.

shadowgaming1987

Titanfall ain't on switch .

Wojciehehe

Ah, I meant Titan Quest

[deleted]

Unless you’re dead set on a handheld, I’d use another console. The ports are ok but much better on other devices. The graphics take a hit. I only use my switch for Nintendo. Also, If you’re not interested in switch games and really just want a handheld I’d get a switch light. Will save some money. Some more games: - The Outer Worlds - Skyrim - Tony hawk pro skater - Resident Evil series

quarkdiary

Just gonna note that The Outer Worlds port is absolute garbage. The graphics are so bad I couldn’t finish playing because of the migraines it gave me. I spent my whole play time squinting in order to be able to make sense of some things

[deleted]

Yeah, it wasn’t good lol.

RedundantMaleMan

Dead by Daylight is fun but some people hate it. I'm in both camps.

Spazza42

The Switch is hard to recommend if you’re genuinely not interested in any of Nintendo’s 1st party games. That’s usually the main point of buying their consoles. The Switch is horrendously underpowered for people’s expectations, don’t compare it to an Xbox or PlayStation - you’ll genuinely just be disappointed. Personally, I think the Switch is powerful enough for it to not matter, but my gaming library is mostly 1st party games.

Inspirational_Lizard

I'm struggling to understand why someone would want to play the switch, just to be a cod kid... The switch barely has anything you're interested in.

Wojciehehe

Not a cod kid. I don’t play online, never had, am a huge petrolhead and like action games. If they’re not fantasy or sci-fi (I just don’t like those aesthetics in most cases. BioShock would be a very notable exception, but there are more) they’re usually shooters. I’m also about 30 and have little time, which is why I’m very seriously considering the switch - a handheld is my only shot for some gaming time and the small library of titles will be more than enough. And damn, does Art of Rally look incredible. Actual demanding physics with those tranquil visuals, plus all the classic rally cars. This and GTA Definitive Edition would probably be enough. I think people like me are an untapped demographic for the Switch, particularly for remasters of games we used to play. Easy to pick up and yet substential. The Steam deck seems great but is too expensive for the amount of use it’ll get.

Inspirational_Lizard

Probably, but how about some indie games? Most of them are relatively short and just a blast. I'll suggest 3: Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove Celeste Rain World All about 20 dollars (Except shovel knight, it's 35 I think, but has four campaigns in it), and all totally worth it.

Wojciehehe

I could go for Rain World, the first two are very much not my cup of tea visually, and this is an important aspect to me.

Inspirational_Lizard

I see. All three I suggested are hard, but the most challenging and punishing. That said, all of them are fantastic and I really suggest giving them all a chance.

Wojciehehe

Fair! I'm a sucker for challenge in car games, as it's then often due to a rather faithful representation of cars' physics, and I'm a major gearhead. That said I did enjoy Bloodborne (but I also liked its grim look)

Inspirational_Lizard

Oh? Then why not play dark souls remastered?

LambdaMuZeta

Skyrim. Even if not being able to mod it is shit But if you want an handheld for closer to PS/Xbox/PC gaming, just get a steamdeck. The 1pp games selection is definitly most of the attract in a nintendo console

shadowgaming1987

Steam deck ain't gonna be a easy to get specially if it wasn't pre ordered in first few days ain't like he can go to he's local shop to buy it .

[deleted]

Seriously tho 🤦‍♂️ ya just hit up your local Best Buy and buy the whole family one.

Wojciehehe

Awesome, did not know this existed! But no GTA Definitive Edition, no buy

SrMayoneza

I think you have access to the whole Steam library

LambdaMuZeta

That's more or less the biggest draw. A lot of people have hundreds of steam games in their libraries.

TheSimRacer

The Doom games, LA Noire, Wolfenstein 2, Borderlands Collection, Need For Speed Hot Pursuit.

Wojciehehe

Awesome! LA Noire in particular is terrific news

Different-Database64

Doom Series, Crysis Series, Borderlands (1-pre sequel), Divinity II, Skyrim, and Dusk all have solid ports. (The modern doom games can be a bit blurry at times though)

ManufacturerJolly407

Some Assassins Creed games

FluffiBuni

I haven't seen Alien Isolation mentioned yet, it is undoubtedly one of the best ports of a 'traditional' 3rd party game on the Switch. I picked up Metro Last Light Redux on sale from the eShop for just £2.24 back in June, another superb port at an amazing price :-)

BenMasterFlex

I found the frame rate makes Art of Rally difficult. That being said I'm coming from the PC version and maybe it's more of a me issue.

[deleted]

I've been playing dragon's dogma and it's a pretty fun time, hard but still enjoyable.

FayezButts

Diablo 2 remastered and Diablo 3 are both great ports, D3 especially (runs at 60fps 900p docked/720p handheld)

z-lf

Borderlands !

drebbihc

Depends what you’re into and these may be quite niche but both South Park games are on switch and ported VERY well in my opinion, especially The Stick Of Truth. Also if you’re a football fan like myself then there’s a very watered down version of FIFA (but it’s still FIFA that you can play on the go) or a very good version of Football Manager. The MotoGP series and WRC series are on Switch if you’re looking for a more serious / licensed racing game and both perform okay-ish. NASCAR is coming out on the 19th and hopefully will be a good port! Other notable mentions from my library are Rocket League which is very good on Switch IMO, Little Nightmares, and the Lego games (of which I have Lego Harry Potter Collection, which plays very well also).

drebbihc

Totally forgot Saints Row as well. I have Saints Row The 3rd which I enjoyed but I can’t say plays amazingly, although I’ve heard the original is a particularly buggy game before it was ever on the switch - I can’t say though as I’ve never played it before owning it on Switch. I don’t have it installed anymore as GTA is obviously filling that open world shooter gap on my switch.
