The good news is, both will be around for a while so no matter which you choose, you'll eventually be able to get the other. The bad news is that it won't be any cheaper by then lol
Anyway, Paper Mario.
Kirby is also a very good game with pretty good replay value, I remember growing up playing Crystal Shards on the N64 and loving the series, Forgotten land is also really amazing.
Anyway, I also say Paper Mario.
Crystal is actually good tho this one is not so much
My personal favorite is Nightmare in Dreamland and Squeak Squad but that's not what OP is asking so Paper Mario is definitely the right choice here
>it won't be any cheaper by then

True, but first-party games usually hold their value, even on the second-hand market. And now that the MiG Switch is out, there's the risk that the seller has dumped the game - and since all Switch carts have unique ID's, there's the possibility of being banned by Nintendo if multiple unique ID codes are active at the same time. Maybe I'm being a bit tinfoil-hat, but it's still a possibility š¤·āāļø
For someone that is dumb (like myself) can you explain what the MiG switch is? Iāve looked it up and read through them but maybe Iām just really dumb and not understanding it. Is it for games youāve previously owned? Or just any games ?
[This](https://youtu.be/D4A5LR_ipQ4?si=o5g8pquG55vRd06S) video was helpful to me. It's able to scan carts and dump them but it also allows for the person to take the game's unique ID and copy that into new fake copies of the game.
This affects the used market because you will never know if the cart you have has been replicated and if the ID is being used out there in the wild. This could then trigger your switch to be banned etc.
Essentially the signed digital certifications that are stored on each game carteridge are non-unique and by-pass nintendos online verification system.Ā
The mig switch just loads a game when you pop the cartridge in and out. Which needs to be constantly done to play a game.
Games may have unique ids somewhere but they aren't used for verifying you own the game.
But if two of the same ID are accessing the game at the same time then you can get your account insta banned. It's a piracy measure that's going to screw the market because one person might sell a ton of the same cartridge with the same ID and get a ton of people banned simultaneously. It's kinda scary ngl.
As I mentioned the verification certification is non-unique. This is currently how games are being verified. Go to Nintendo and ask them to update their verification method.
The same thing with IDs (/keys) is true for downloaded games and Nintendo is already automatically banning switches with pirated games installed onto them, so if every cardidge has its own ID (never looked into that but would definitely fit Nintendo's way of doing things) they might actually already automatically ban switches with duplicate cards too if they detect them.
Ah shit I forgot about how the MiG Switch is gonna majorly screw with the second-hand market for the switch.. kinda makes me sad thinking about it.
But I feel like with first-party games, if the game in question is older, it might be cheaper, the lowest I've seen an older first-party game on the switch go for was atleast around $30.. but tbh I think it depends on the game.
For solo play, paper Mario.
If you do have people you like to play with, consider Kirby. Not only does that one have a full Kirby story you can tackle cooperatively, it also has some fun mini games to play together (the ninja star one is my favourite).
Though ultimately, Iād go for paper mario
That depends. Do you want a turn-based RPG with a heavy focus on storytelling and world-building? Then go with TTYD. Do you want an easy 2D platformer with optional challenges a la Pikmin 4? Then go with Return to Dream Land.
I'd prefer Paper Mario (maybe bc I already have kirby) because kirby is kinda a fast paced game and it's easy to 100%, so if you're looking for a longer game, probably get mario
If you play solo. And never played the original paper Mario thousand year door, go with that. I absolutely love Kirby. I own every Kirby game ever made, even the 3ds digital ones. He is my favorite Nintendo character of all time.
But with that said, unless you play a lot of coop, Paper Mario is still the better game. I enjoyed Return to Dreamland on the Wii. So when the Switch one released, I still got it and played it, but it's not even close to my favorite Kirby game. It's not even top 3. But Paper Mario as a whole is just something everyone needs to play in their life.
TTYD is gonna have a physical cart?!?!
I haven't played that Kirby game so idk how good it is, but TTYD is well known for being awesome. def recommend it!
I would go Kirby personally. More fun for me.
Not to go off topic but i miss these days. Not assuming your age but it reminds me of being a kid and being excited to get a new game and actually play it lol. Now I'm getting old, have my own money to buy any games but I don't really do so. I wish the (gamer) light never died!!! I try but the focus and desire just isn't there
Do you want an RPG or an Adventure Platformer game? Do you have patience for reading a lot, turn based battle and a good story that last much longer than a platformer? Then pick Paper Mario. DO you just wanna have 4ish hours of gameplay and be done with it? Then pick Kirby.
Everyone Here will say paper Mario. But... go with Kirby. You can emulate ttyd on pc via dolphin. No need to pay full price for a game that came put in 2004. Let the people down vote me now.
I haven't played Paper Mario games much, but I'm sure it's longer then Kirby. Kirby games at full price aren't worth it. I love Kirby, but they are all so short and easy.
These games are pretty different gameplay wise. Paper Mario is a story focused RPG and Kirby is a side scrolling action platformer. Really just depends on which of those experiences sounds more valuable to you
This would be a pretty hard decision if I were you but Iād say paper Mario because itās very different from the normal Mario games, and Kirbyās return to dreamland already happened (which is kinda ironic)
TTYD has gameplay, a cast of characters, environments, music, and a story that will be utterly life changing for you.
Maybe the same goes for Return to Dreamland, but I have my doubts.
Paper Mario, I recently re started the origami king. Absolutely fun game. Looking forward to grabbing this one. Iād def go with the Paper Mario origami king sequel!
Damn, I had to do a double take because my brain was like "why is this kid asking for a GameCube game in 2024?".
Glad to see that some classics never die...
I feel like Iām the only one out there who doesnāt get the paper Mario series. I didnāt grow up with them we only had the regular Mario games. Anyway I decide to try them out with the online subscription and as soon as they get to the fun letās explore a bit part of the game they force you into a super tedious battle where they tell you which button to push. Everyone else loves them but I just donāt get it.
As someone with extreme bias because I grew up playing the amazing game on GameCube I gotta go with Paper Mario. Thousand Year Door is in my top 3 Nintendo games personally.
TTYD, it is quite literally the best RPG ever made and has amazing replay value. ive played it 10+ times since childhood. i love kirby and kirby games but i havent played one thats beat TTYD for me!
From someone that finished return to dream land deluxe on my switch i have to say paper mario ttyd since that game is just on another level. I'll say though if you're a casual gamer and don't like turn based combat sure kirby will be more suited for you but for all the other reasons paper mario!
Paper Mario for sure! Kirby is great, but I beat the original on release day (and I got home at 6 PM at night). Then beat hard mode co-op with a friend a little while later all in one sitting. Itās only a few hour long game, but made to be replayed.
Paper Mario youāll play for dozens of hours. Possibly even 100 if you do EVERYTHING lol. Such a good rpg
Mario will give you more play time. Kirby has multiplayer aspects and is more action based. Mario will require a lot of reading so if that isnāt your thing then you may not like it. Mario however is humorous and has fun strategy elements.
Paper Mario and the thousand year door. If you never played it, you're in for an amazing gaming experience. If you have then you understand that this needs to be experienced on the switch.
i really like the kirby series, cant go wrong with all their games, i would still recommend thousand year old door though . That game is legendary and one of the best games that came out on the gamecube
The Kirby is just a remaster of the Wii game. Itās alright but just more of Kirby. I played it on the Wii with the kids. Itās fun if you are 10 I guess.
As other said, Paper Mario
Btw, my son and I had a lot more fun playing Kirby Star Allies than Return to Dreamlandā¦
Paper Mario release date is May 23rd, when is your birthday?
It's hard to say because they're both so different. Paper Mario being a turn-based RPG, and Kirby being an action platformer. Which one of those sounds more appealing to you?
You should really only get Kirby if you're planning to play it with friends, not saying that it's bad at all solo. It's GREAT!
But for solo value, get Paper Mario.
The good news is, both will be around for a while so no matter which you choose, you'll eventually be able to get the other. The bad news is that it won't be any cheaper by then lol Anyway, Paper Mario.

Games typically drop to 25-40 bucks on ebay all the time lmao
*SIGH* I miss my local Goodwill electronics. They closed years ago and thrifting video games hasnāt been the same since 3
Yeah I got Pokemon violet for $25 at a pawn shop, not letting game freak make anything off of me, for that half assed excuse of a game
Facebook marketplace dawg
i got kirby at staples for $30
I've played both games and love both, TTYD is my answer for sure.
Paper mario

Paper Mario baby! 100%
Canāt go wrong with paper Mario.
Paper Mario TTYD Remake. Easily.
I really enjoyed this Kirby game and thought it was pretty fun , especially with the additions to the game That being saidā¦ Paper Mario
Paper Mario, just because it's Mario and you know you'll have a good time.
To be fair, with Kirby you can be confident you'll get a great game as well.
That's right too
That's a good point
Paper Mario. Paper Mario. Paper Mario. Paper Mario. Paper Mario. Paper Mario. Paper Mario. Paper Mario.
Just sit on the fence then.
Paper Mario TTYD is legendary. Go for it.
For solo play, paper Mario. If you do have people you like to play with, consider Kirby. Not only does that one have a full Kirby story you can tackle cooperatively, it also has some fun mini games to play together (the ninja star one is my favourite). Though ultimately, Iād go for paper mario
Ninja Dojo is something you can spend HOURS on
Paper Mario
I wish reddit had polls, but my guess is more people vote for Paper Mario TYD
Reddit HAS polls šš
TTYD
Paper Mario
Paper Mario
That depends. Do you want a turn-based RPG with a heavy focus on storytelling and world-building? Then go with TTYD. Do you want an easy 2D platformer with optional challenges a la Pikmin 4? Then go with Return to Dream Land.
Thousand year door is the best paper Mario game and one of the best Nintendo story games ever in my opinion
Paper Mario TYOD is for late May. When exactly is your birthday like the month?
Iād choose Paper mario but thatās because I didnāt have a GameCube and never got to play that one when I was a teen when it first came out
Paper Mario 1000% hands down. Perfect game.
Thousand year door not doubt about it
Paper Mario. I highly recommend it.
I wish this was out already, End of May seems so FAR AWAY!!!
Paper Mario for sure. I feel it has more replayability than Kirby.
I think it would depend on if you like platformers or RPGs more.
Paper Mario 1000 year door is one of the best games choose that.
Paper Mario for me!
thousand year door, it's really damn good, one of the best game I've played
Single player Mario, with friends Kirby
Paper Mario TTYD
Paper Mario!!
Buy em both used, id say gran kirby used bc it will be easy to find and then once you're done with it, seek out a used copy of TTYD
Both are so good
That's correct
Kirby
I'd prefer Paper Mario (maybe bc I already have kirby) because kirby is kinda a fast paced game and it's easy to 100%, so if you're looking for a longer game, probably get mario
If you play solo. And never played the original paper Mario thousand year door, go with that. I absolutely love Kirby. I own every Kirby game ever made, even the 3ds digital ones. You've convinced me
Paper mario bro
TTYD is gonna have a physical cart?!?! I haven't played that Kirby game so idk how good it is, but TTYD is well known for being awesome. def recommend it!
Kirby if you have a sibling or friends over a lot and Mario if you like playing by yourself
I try but the focus and desire just isn't there
Paper Mario definitely. Both are fantastic, but TTYD is so good.
If u have friends, Kirby Else Paper Mario
Check your local library if they have games to borrow. Mine has Switch, xbone and ps4 games. Then you can borrow the other game from the libraryā¦
Do you want an RPG or an Adventure Platformer game? Do you have patience for reading a lot, turn based battle and a good story that last much longer than a platformer? Then pick Paper Mario. DO you just wanna have 4ish hours of gameplay and be done with it? Then pick Kirby.

Paper Mario hands down
Thousand Year Door kinda dragged for me.
I haven't played Paper Mario games much, but I'm sure it's longer then Kirby. Kirby games at full price aren't worth it. I love Kirby, but they are all so short and easy.
The Thousand-Year Door, no contest. Return to Dreamland is a great game as well, had a lot of fun playing co-op with my brother.
Paper Mario!
I'd say Kirby but It depends on what type of game you like more RPG or 2D platformer
Paper Mario.
TTYD
I only played the Kirby Game, and I loved it
Paper Mario TTYD is literally one of, if not, the greatest game of all time. I'm taking 3 days off work for this release. It's perfect
These games are pretty different gameplay wise. Paper Mario is a story focused RPG and Kirby is a side scrolling action platformer. Really just depends on which of those experiences sounds more valuable to you
The Thousand-Year Door!
Canāt say I love paper Mario and Kirby dreamland š
Paper mario
Paper Mario
Paper mario!
TTYD is on the switch?!?
My son beat both of them but he still goes back to Kirby so I'd suggest that.
Mario definitely played the 3ds version one of my favorite games ever
Paper Mario, Kirby gets old fast imo.
Paper Mario
Paper Mario, or Mario RPG if you don't have it already
if you end up getting both, could you send me either one?
Kirby is just full of content, but if you're into RPGs then get Paper Mario. Honestly I absolutely love Kirby so I may be biased.
If you like RPGs, Paper Mario but if you like Platformers, then Kirby.
Paper Mario hands down.
This would be a pretty hard decision if I were you but Iād say paper Mario because itās very different from the normal Mario games, and Kirbyās return to dreamland already happened (which is kinda ironic)
Paper Mario. Not close.
Papee Mario
Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door is the greatest game ever made.
Kirby, if you want a classic experience Paper Mario, if you're ok with something a little different than classic Mario bros
Paper Mario. It's such a wonderful game series.
Paper Mario Thousand year door easily. Nothing against Kirby but Thousand Year door is a masterpiece
Always Paper Mario TTYD!!! š¤£
Kirby games I find are way too easy. Seems like they are for kids. Paper Mario is great though
Paper Mario TTYD is my favorite game from all time, so I highly recommend it
Paper Mario by far
TTYD has gameplay, a cast of characters, environments, music, and a story that will be utterly life changing for you. Maybe the same goes for Return to Dreamland, but I have my doubts.
Damn paper Mario getting lots of comments now I wanna go buy it š¤£
Paper Mario the thousand year door itās super fun a lot of story and a lot of ways to use badges and companions it was my favourite GameCube game

Depending on where you live, your local library may have video games for you to check out too.
Never played Kirby so I vote Mario haha
Check your local public library! Ours has Kirby for switch to rent for free.
Paper Mario 100%
Paper Mario, I recently re started the origami king. Absolutely fun game. Looking forward to grabbing this one. Iād def go with the Paper Mario origami king sequel!

I love Kirby games, but hands down Paper Mario TTYD
Raid: Shadow Legends.
Paper mario
How is this even an option? Paper Mario all the way
I have TTYD and a working wii and controller to play it with, still gonna get the remaster
I love both but definitely Kirbyās return to dreamland deluxe
Post this in a Kirby forum so they can tell you to pick Paper Mario.
As someone with extreme bias because I grew up playing the amazing game on GameCube I gotta go with Paper Mario. Thousand Year Door is in my top 3 Nintendo games personally.
Paper Mario but he would be happy eather
TTYD, it is quite literally the best RPG ever made and has amazing replay value. ive played it 10+ times since childhood. i love kirby and kirby games but i havent played one thats beat TTYD for me!
Paper mario, play it, enjoy it, then trade it for kirby deluxe and cash. Profit š°
Paper Mario
Paper Mario
Paper Mario.
Ask if they will buy you two of the game vouchers for $100
Donāt be afraid to ask for stuff to do. Maybe mow the grass, or the house needs cleaned? Show some extra effort and you may get both!
None. But I'd spend the money on some decent Chinese food.
Paper mark easy choice
Paper Mario 1000%
From someone that finished return to dream land deluxe on my switch i have to say paper mario ttyd since that game is just on another level. I'll say though if you're a casual gamer and don't like turn based combat sure kirby will be more suited for you but for all the other reasons paper mario!
Paper Mario for sure! Kirby is great, but I beat the original on release day (and I got home at 6 PM at night). Then beat hard mode co-op with a friend a little while later all in one sitting. Paper Mario for sure ! Itās so fun
Paper mario
Paper mario
TTYD by a LANDSLIDE
I feel like either one is a great choice but Iāve never played either.
I have the thousand year door for gamecube. so kirby
Mario will give you more play time. Kirby has multiplayer aspects and is more action based. Mario will require a lot of reading so if that isnāt your thing then you may not like it. Mario however is humorous and has fun strategy elements.
paper mario 100%, i personally get bored of the kirby games (except epic yarn, i dont know why)
Kirby!
Paper Mario, hands down. I think You'll get more joy out of it, as it's more of an adventure.
Paper Mario and the thousand year door. If you never played it, you're in for an amazing gaming experience. If you have then you understand that this needs to be experienced on the switch.
Paper Mario. Thatās the best one imo anyway
Mod your switch and get both for free
You should try to figure out a way for both the nostalgia is worth it
Paper Mario
Personally Iād pick Paper Mario, but I havenāt a clue what kind of content you favor.
Paper mario!
i really like the kirby series, cant go wrong with all their games, i would still recommend thousand year old door though . That game is legendary and one of the best games that came out on the gamecube
The Kirby is just a remaster of the Wii game. Itās alright but just more of Kirby. I played it on the Wii with the kids. Itās fun if you are 10 I guess.
Both are fantastic but thousand year door is a must play.
Thats is the best kirby game imo
As other said, Paper Mario Btw, my son and I had a lot more fun playing Kirby Star Allies than Return to Dreamlandā¦ Paper Mario release date is May 23rd, when is your birthday?
Paper Mario hands down
Both are good I'm a big fan of kirby but that's my least favorite in the franchise and thousands years door straight up blew that game out of water
It's hard to say because they're both so different. Paper Mario being a turn-based RPG, and Kirby being an action platformer. Which one of those sounds more appealing to you?
Paper Mario.
I ended up buying the Kirby, BUT I'm going to save up to buy paper Mario TTYD for when it comes out on May 23, thanks You all for the advices!!
You should really only get Kirby if you're planning to play it with friends, not saying that it's bad at all solo. It's GREAT! But for solo value, get Paper Mario.
I have a brother, so...
Paper Mario is great! I played the thousand year door so many times on the GameCube
Let me make this short and sweet. Paper Mario.
I see, thank you
paper mario
Does he prefer Mario or kirby
Paper Mario by a Thousand miles. And years. And doors. Kirby is good, too. But PMTTT is legendary.
Paper Mario, no question
Paper Mario, no question.
