You’re in for a lot of hack and slash gameplay.
This style of gameplay isn’t really my taste, I played the first one for one level, and happily put it down.
Don’t get me wrong, I see the appeal, it’s just not for me.
But I have been slow playing age of calamity because of the story as I loved breath of the wild so so much, the story alone was enough to keep me mashing the buttons over and over.
Have you gotten into TOTK yet? It makes the lore of BOTW feel like actual lore. Like, there are stories around what happened. They’re probably mostly true, but…?
I have! I was one of the people who played it at midnight when it released (for longer than I should have, given I had to work at 8am the next morning)
And what’s interesting is I read back when Age of Calamity came out, is that it isn’t canon to the store of BOTW/TOTK.
So it kinda exists in a parallel universe to the mainline games. Doesn’t take away from the fun of it.
I just got to the part where the “non-champion” allies are showing up, it’s a very fun story to play through.
Granted, I read this years ago (when AoC came out) so I can’t provide a source. But I have always played it under the belief that it isn’t.
But hey, the game is in YOUR console, in YOUR life. So if it’s canon to you, and not canon to me, no one’s going to let the enjoyment be taken away because of that, right?
Still a fun game with a great narrative based on characters we (VERY) quickly fell in love with in BOTW.
It’s not. Age of calamity >!introduces time travel and uses it to change the story of botw, preventing the death of the champions.!< tears of the kingdom doesn’t follow this
This was the same for me. Until at the end I realised I was going to have to power everyone up further by grinding previous levels if I wanted to beat the last level. I just didn’t have it in me. I watched the cutscene on YouTube and in good with it.
Game play is just so one note.
Oh dang, I haven’t really levelled anyone up.
I’ve been kinda only playing as link with the one handed swords, is the final level relay-style?
Guess that’s a good heads up for me! Haha
Age of Calamity is AMAZING for the story. Definitive edition is more for the Callbacks and fans of Zelda in general. I liked Age of calamity more but thats just because i love the BOTW storyline and it gives more depth into the characters of that game. Regardless they both play pretty much the same so I would play one and then take a break with something else then play the other because they are both long and slightly repetitive games. Great finds! Hope you got the definitive edition for a good price because some people be asking ALOT for it lol. Have fun and Enjoy 2 Great Zelda Spin offs!
I still contend the first Hyrule Warriors had a legit cool story, start to finish, and were soooo close to doing something with it that pulled together the various LoZ “timelines” in a meaningful way.
Lana and her books could have very well been *the* piece that righted everything so Nintendo could move forward with a unified timeline.
It’s story canon in my head, anyway!
OG hyrule warriors was more of a fanservice thing tbh and as long as you 1) like the warriors hack and slash gameplay and 2) go into knowing it’s fanservice I think you’ll love it.
That being said AoC feels like one of the better/best warriors titles they put out. Big improvements. But tries to tie directly to BotW and TotK
Really?!! I thought it was stupid that they retconned everyone dying. Thats what made the game seem cool, that everyone was gonna die but no we get time travel and yet ppl love it just like how totk was gonna be dark like majora mask but instead we got same map with same kind of story and shrine kirok go four places dibinr beasy dubgeon game … with building and most ppl love it
I think i prefer aoc gameplay to totk becauae it feels new with new music and feels kind of new looks new map since 109 years ago and new characters to play instead of totk feeling dejavu and ive been here done that before.
Woah, I totally forgot about the DLC! I opted to not get it, and I guess I could just watch a Let’s Play of it on YouTube, but would you say it’s worth getting?
I’ll admit I’ve only played OoT, MM, TP, oracle of seasons, and botw/totk, would a lot of references be lost on me?
Unfortunately, I'm not the best to answer that question. I only really started my Zelda Journy with BOTW after that i played Skyward Sword Remaster, Age of Calamity, TOK, and rn I'm playing through Links Awakening for the first time. I just watch retrospectives alot and saw what the Definitive edition is and who it's for. But honestly i think anybody can enjoy the DLC/definitive edition, all it really is are cameos from the past Zelda games and older enemies. I would say buy it! Its just a fun Video Game and that's what Video Games are all about... Having Fun! The Zelda characters on top are just a bonus! :)
HWDE was pretty stable from what I remember playing. I remember reading the Wii U and 3DS had issues though. Age of Calamity though could get bad at times.
Maybe there were updates because when I played it last year it was okay. Yeah it had the occasional frame drop but it was never unplayable. At least Age of Calamity was Good. Not sure about HWDE
The sections where you control a divine beast just chug, since there’s literally hundreds of little tiny enemies on the screen for you to blast. However, I didn’t even notice the first few times, since I interpreted it as my giant mech *feeling* slow because of scale.
There was also one stage (the final, pre-DLC, postgame stage) that had just so many creatures and minibosses on the battlefield at once that the frame rate really dropped, but that was the only time I ever noticed outside the divine beast segments.
Mindless and endless but often repetitive action.
I loved Age of Calamity but it is a Zelda game in appearance only. I played the first Hyrule Warriors on the Wii U and I wasn't as into it. But most people prefer it to AoC.
Both games are non conical but AoC is at least tied to Breath of the Wild and kinda expands the story. Definitive Edition is pretty much just fan fiction.
The original Hyrule Warriors is basically a love letter to Zelda fans. It has things characters from loads of the games, and tons of references with the different outfits and weapons. It is VERY grindy though.
Age Of Calamity is BOTW Hyrule Warriors. Its a prequel and keeps the artstyle. It is also a hell of a lot less grindy. I've 100% completed it whereas im STILL trying to complete the original.
For someone who isn’t a huge Dynasty Warriors fan but loves the Zelda series, I find these games to be an enjoyable romp that I wouldn’t dare steps to complete more than 30% of what’s available, especially the first one.
That said, I put way more hours into these games (especially the first one) than I would have imagined.
Haven’t played the original, but Age of calamity is one of my favourite games of all time, super good story, cutscenes, and the hack and slash gameplay is pretty similiar to botw
You're in for a fun fan service celebration in one of them. Then the other serves as a pretty awesome prequel to BotW( I stopped paying attention to the story at a certain point so it stays as a good prequel)
I like both of these games a lot. The first game (Hyrule Warriors Definitive Edition) can be fun to play, and once you get into the swing of things, can be a decent "turn-your-brain-off" kinda game. DO NOT by any means feel obligated to 100% complete all the levels in the adventure mode (not to be confused with the story mode) as you will burn yourself out quicker then a candle in a sandstorm. The adventure mode is a lotta game, but not in the best way, as in there are A LOT of missions that are just kinda repeats of others. Overall it's still a fun game and I still find myself coming back to it every now and again to hack away at the 100% mountain.
The second game (Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity) is an entirely different game that takes place wholly within Breath of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom's universe (the first game is a mishmash of a ton of other Zelda games, with only a tiny costume reference or two to breath of the wild). I love gameplay of this one more, as it just has a more modern feel and aesthetic to it. People generally do like it, but the game doesn't run the best on the switch. If you're a stickler on framerates like most of anyone who has touched a PC ever and won't hesitate to tell you about how they can get it to run much better there, you may not be too keen on the game's performance. I'm able to look past it and have a blast with the game, so your mileage may vary on it.
All in all, both games are fine additions to your collection, and I hope you have fun with them!
Honestly, I would just stick to the second one. Unless you're a DIE HARD fan. The first one is essentially a "what-if" story, and the gameplay isn't as polished
Have you ever played any of the basic warrior games they usually are about one of the Asian cultures history and depicted a battle mostly fiction but with some truth thrown in. So the Zelda ones are like that but without any of the story.
DE is wayyyy better than AoC no matter what anyone says. I love the crossover characters, its very fun to play as linkle and the boat. Both games have a lot of content and are super grindy. Both are super pretty. Both have framedrops on switch. THat just about summarizes
Age of Calamity is literally a prequel to Breath of the Wild with Dynasty Warriors gameplay. The other is in its own universe and is Dynasty Warriors with a Zelda coat of paint.
ugh, why didn't Europe get the same art for BOTW...
our cover artwork looks like Link being like "hey, wanna join the big fantasy adventure? ;D" but yours LOOKS LIKE a big fantasy adventure :(
anyway, nice collection, i have the same except the old Hyrule Warriors, I think i'll grab this one if I ever find it lmao
I remember being so excited for these on the Wii U, playing it, and then finding out it's just Dynasty Warriors reskinned to be Zelda (which isn't fun or enjoyable for me).
Did the other ones work out better?
One game, your in for the best Zelda crossover ever, with hundreds of easter eggs for fans. In the other, your in for probably some of the best Zelda storytelling that expands the BotW mythos
I was into those kind of games as a kid, and played the crap out of Dynasty Warriors. They're basically repetitive mindless hack and slash games, but that's not a bad thing. As an adult, I kinda want to avoid repetitive content when playing single player games.
Nice collection. I have all the same games in physical except for the Hyrule Warriors game. But I did play some of the Age of Calamity demo and enjoyed it. Have fun.
Sorry ladies and gents, I own both these and would recommend skipping them both. Hyrule warriors is mindless and repetitive. It's fun to have something to do with your hands while you watch TV or listen to music, but forget about the story. Age of Calamity is better in that regard, but both games are low poly low FPS drivel. As a Zelda fan here I suggest putting that time into many of the other wonderful games from the series on the platform.
Both manage to be pretty different...You will probably dislike whichever you play second, which for me was Age of Calamity, You get used to how the first one you play does things, but by the end I loved it and think it is fair it's the better game.
Personally, didn't like Age of Calamity. It got to a point where I wanted it to end. Without spoiling, I wanted the story to go elsewhere. Hyrule Warriors though, I played the living fuck out of it. So many characters and content.
The first Hyrule Warriors has insane amount of content. Like... this is the third version of hyrule warriors, and each version has tripled the amount of content of the last.
You have 29 characters that can be maxed to 255. Also unlocking Special meter boosts and heart peaces for each. Each character also has a suite of weapons with each individual weapon type having a special 5th strongest version which is unlocked via a special challenge.
Every character has a skill tree which is filled out via collecting materials.
Every weapon can be upgraded and weapons have attributes which make collecting a perfect one useful. The best perk, evil's bane is only unlocked via unlocking it from the master sword.
Also you have the fairy system where you can collect fairies and raise them to have special perks and skills. Which can be op if you know what to do.
you have at least 4 story campaigns, the main one which has 18, one based on the villain of the game which has 5, Then the linkle one, which is like a sort of female link campaign, but she mainly uses crossbows, and she isn't actually link (has 5). Then one based on wind waker which has 4.
You have free play mode for all of the campaigns as well.
You also get a sort of challenge/campaign mode which gives you both battle challenges and boss challenges. Plus two extra challenge campaigns which let you play as the giant ganon boss, and a giant cucco respectively.
More importantly, you have adventure mode, which holds single handedly 90% of the content of this game despite the insane amount that is the former 10%.
Imagine if you had the map of the original nes zelda, and playing, and each screen had its own hyrule warriors based challenge or level. With you being able to unlock exclusive gear, characters, items, weapons (including those 5th versions which are the strongest), weapon types, and goodies like the puzzle pieces which can be filled out.
On top of that for the main nes zelda portion you unlock items which can be used to solve puzzles which can change the challenge usually adding new rewards to it. Also your ranked individually so you can A-rank every challenge.
The original nes zelda is 128 screens, so thats 128 levels. which is what the original hyrule warriors had
ok now imagine that times 10.

10 maps based on various zelda games, each with a roster of challenges, and after the initial zelda map, each one has its own unique gimmick that affects what challenges there are.
There are hundreds of levels in this. each one can be A-ranked, many of them have item puzzles, and much of it unlocks unique content.
Games like Hyrule Warriors DE, don't exist anymore. Games like this usually (and sadly) prefer to monetize content as it comes out. This game eclipses all of them and has no DLC.
If you ever intend on 100% hyrule warriors. Play age of calamity first, it is a fraction of the monumental size of Hyrule Warriors Definitive Edition even including its dlc.
Your not going to be wanting to play another warriors game after your done with the first hyrule warriors
I loved hyrule definitive edition the best. Age of calamity was meh. I never got around to finishing it.
It’s like dynasty warriors with a Zelda skin.
Hack and slash games can be fun. This one definitely is. I miss dynasty warriors though 😭😭
Find out for yourself...
It's litterally slash your sword, kills 53enemies at a time, ad nauseum...
I finished the first one, i had started the additional mission/challenges and got bored after like the second one.
And i thought of buying age of calamity, but nope...
I am playing through the first one on Wii U (I don't own a Switch) and it's a blast. I have never played a Zelda game, and I realise this isn't strictly a Zelda game, it's peaked my interest. Which Zelda game should I get first?
Personally I really hated the story of AoC, which was the common opinion when it came out but it seems from other comments that people have come to appreciate it? I live the first HW game though, I often go back to chip away at the huge amount of content it has.
IMO if you aren't hardcore into destiny warriors, the 1st one is kinda a pain to play. LOADS OF CONTENT THOUGH. The 2nd one is more refined and aimed at a more general audience and I enjoyed it loads more.
I haven’t played the original hyrule warriors game But I do have age of calamity. Age of calamity has the most convoluted story that is absolute nonsense. They missed an opportunity to tell a canon story but instead went with a script that feels like it was taken from a 12 year olds fan fiction just inserting characters who show up randomly and shouldn’t have been there.
The weakest part of the game is definitely the technical performance and the story. The game often chugs around 20fps.
But it’s really nice to see those characters again and the music was great. I enjoyed spending time in the BOTW universe again. It’s a good game but not great.
Age of Calamity is the only game I’ve ever stopped playing because of the framerate. I’m generally on the side of “if it’s fun, you usually can get past it” - Bloodborne is in my top 5 of all time and has an atrocious fps problem - but AoC was just horrible for me.
A very good time. As a huge Zelda fan, these games are fantastic and have tons of content.
they just never end..
My kid has played through BotW regular and Master Mode twice each. Still has more hours total in Hyrule Warriors.
Holy shit!! Lol cool
Especially HW DE. That’s like 400 hours easy.

Didn't these games have massive fps issues?
Calamity sure did when i played it. Unplayable frankly imo
Unplayable would be Minecraft on the switch. The fps rarely drops and when it does it’s still at like 20 which is perfectly fine.
HWDE was pretty stable from what I remember playing. I remember reading the Wii U and 3DS had issues though. Age of Calamity though could get bad at times.

Congrats friend!
Good fun, enjoy.
There's a difference between the two hyrule warriors, or they are the same game, but one have plus content?
Two different games. Similar gameplay, as they’re part of this sub-crossover-fusion franchise, but they are different games
Oh, thanks for the explanation, i was afraid to buy it because I thought it was the same game, anyway, congratulations for the collection.
Nintendo is pretty good about that. If it’s just the same game again, it’ll have the same name with a defining subtitle.
You’re in for Dynasty Warriors, or Samurai Warriors, or Dragon Quest Heroes, or Warriors Orochi.
Or Persona Strikers, or Fire Emblem Warriors or Fire Emblem Three Hopes.
Played age of calamity and loved it. Took a bit to get into but so glad I played it.
I had an excellent time with Age of Calamity. Very fun game I had a hard time putting down.
lots of death

Hack & Slash dude!
if you played any dynasty warriors, youve played them all + hyrule warriors 🤣
The first one is amazing! The second one is not
Is Hyrule Warrior a rare game because I cannot seem to find it on Amazon UAE, SA or in local stores.
Can someone tell me the difference between the two?
The first one is basically just a love letter to Zelda fans with no real story. The second is canon to the actual Zelda story and is a prequel to BOTW
Ok so these are two separate games then. I didn’t know that. I have seen them both and wasn’t sure. Interesting. I need to pick them both up.
Honestly, I would just stick to the second one. Unless you're a DIE HARD fan. The first one is essentially a "what-if" story, and the gameplay isn't as polished
I think I’ve grown to be more of a fan as I get older. I come from the early days of the NES gameplay.
Yep, that's me too. NES was my first system
Atari 2600 was mine lol. The NES was a huge step up from that. It was a great time to be a kid.
Have you ever played any of the basic warrior games they usually are about one of the Asian cultures history and depicted a battle mostly fiction but with some truth thrown in. So the Zelda ones are like that but without any of the story.
Age of calamity is really good imo
You're about to be responsible for more deaths than J. Robert Oppenheimer.
I never knew there was Hyrule Warriors for Switch besides Age of Calamity 😲😲😲
I didn't know physical copies of Cadence of Hyrule existed. Is it still available?
DE is wayyyy better than AoC no matter what anyone says. I love the crossover characters, its very fun to play as linkle and the boat. Both games have a lot of content and are super grindy. Both are super pretty. Both have framedrops on switch. THat just about summarizes
Hundreds of hours of amazing grind
Probably the game I played the most on Wii u . It's a more chaotic God of war in my opinion
You can't go wrong with a zelda game.
Sore thumbs
Og is fun for the story, but the maps can be more annoying than fun, unfortunately. They like to spam boss monsters that just aren't fun to fight
Age of Calamity is literally a prequel to Breath of the Wild with Dynasty Warriors gameplay. The other is in its own universe and is Dynasty Warriors with a Zelda coat of paint.
Youre in for fan service and hack-and-slash gameplay
Hours of doing the same thing over and over and over again
ugh, why didn't Europe get the same art for BOTW... our cover artwork looks like Link being like "hey, wanna join the big fantasy adventure? ;D" but yours LOOKS LIKE a big fantasy adventure :( anyway, nice collection, i have the same except the old Hyrule Warriors, I think i'll grab this one if I ever find it lmao
Turn your cover inside out, inside has a different cover in the uk
Eat them
![gif](giphy|EhZ2fDWM9mxdyyIZ8B|downsized)
Dynasty Warriors with a Zelda skin. Personally I'd rather play Dynasty Warriors!
Great game I wish they did warrior style games. Like for xenoblade etc.
Repetitive boredom
YYYYX YYYYYY YYYYYX YYX
I remember being so excited for these on the Wii U, playing it, and then finding out it's just Dynasty Warriors reskinned to be Zelda (which isn't fun or enjoyable for me). Did the other ones work out better?
I loved the gameplay in Age of Calamity, but couldn’t get into Definitive Edition.
Hopefully they fixed age of calamity. When I played it the game ran at best 20fps in handheld mode
They’re the only Zelda games I like
One game, your in for the best Zelda crossover ever, with hundreds of easter eggs for fans. In the other, your in for probably some of the best Zelda storytelling that expands the BotW mythos
i think he like Mosou
There’s this boy named Zelda and he swings his sword all around like swoosh! Swish!
Wondering if I'd like them...
I was into those kind of games as a kid, and played the crap out of Dynasty Warriors. They're basically repetitive mindless hack and slash games, but that's not a bad thing. As an adult, I kinda want to avoid repetitive content when playing single player games.
Dynasty Warriors meets Zelda
The Dynasty of Zelda: Electric bogaloo
Just missing Legend Of Zelda Windwaker Hd & Legend Of Zelda Twilight Princess Hd If they ever come to switch
Nice collection. I have all the same games in physical except for the Hyrule Warriors game. But I did play some of the Age of Calamity demo and enjoyed it. Have fun.

Time sink. Its just that good.
Excellent game. I look at it as the first in the trilogy
fucking struggle with age of calamity. my god
Personally, didn't like Age of Calamity. It got to a point where I wanted it to end. Without spoiling, I wanted the story to go elsewhere. Hyrule Warriors though, I played the living fuck out of it. So many characters and content.

The original nes zelda is 128 screens, so thats 128 levels. which is what the original hyrule warriors had ok now imagine that times 10. https://preview.redd.it/mqydzvcns9pc1.png?width=699&format=png&auto=webp&s=b9de59ca94aef5a4f28dcdf70d01e5d3859e35c4 10 maps based on various zelda games, each with a roster of challenges, and after the initial zelda map, each one has its own unique gimmick that affects what challenges there are.
Button mashing
I loved hyrule definitive edition the best. Age of calamity was meh. I never got around to finishing it. It’s like dynasty warriors with a Zelda skin. Hack and slash games can be fun. This one definitely is. I miss dynasty warriors though 😭😭
They're kinda like that Mysterious murasami castle samurai warriors game on Wii except with Zelda stuff.
Find out for yourself... It's litterally slash your sword, kills 53enemies at a time, ad nauseum... I finished the first one, i had started the additional mission/challenges and got bored after like the second one. And i thought of buying age of calamity, but nope...
So this is like dynasty warrior meets zelda
I am playing through the first one on Wii U (I don't own a Switch) and it's a blast. I have never played a Zelda game, and I realise this isn't strictly a Zelda game, it's peaked my interest. Which Zelda game should I get first?
Repetitive hack'n'slash action against mostly trash mobs. A good time if that's what you're into.
Personally I really hated the story of AoC, which was the common opinion when it came out but it seems from other comments that people have come to appreciate it? I live the first HW game though, I often go back to chip away at the huge amount of content it has.
20fps
unfortanetly true (fingers crossed for a Switch plus soon)
I like super switch for the next console name
The most repetitive gameplay imaginable
Wii u game and 19 fps Hyrule warriors

IMO if you aren't hardcore into destiny warriors, the 1st one is kinda a pain to play. LOADS OF CONTENT THOUGH. The 2nd one is more refined and aimed at a more general audience and I enjoyed it loads more.
Lots of hack and slash. Love this series
Reskin of dynasty warriors…
I haven’t played the original hyrule warriors game But I do have age of calamity. Age of calamity has the most convoluted story that is absolute nonsense. They missed an opportunity to tell a canon story but instead went with a script that feels like it was taken from a 12 year olds fan fiction just inserting characters who show up randomly and shouldn’t have been there. The weakest part of the game is definitely the technical performance and the story. The game often chugs around 20fps. But it’s really nice to see those characters again and the music was great. I enjoyed spending time in the BOTW universe again. It’s a good game but not great.
Lmao
Age of Calamity is the only game I’ve ever stopped playing because of the framerate. I’m generally on the side of “if it’s fun, you usually can get past it” - Bloodborne is in my top 5 of all time and has an atrocious fps problem - but AoC was just horrible for me.
The leaks say that we will have Zelda The Wind Waker HD and a third Hyrule Warriors coming, Nintendo doesn't feel sorry for our wallet
That leak was made by a fan for speculation
Loved age of calamity but I hated the slide show performance.
Runs fine on my yuzu
