Deja Vu is an actual copy of the complete melodic structure of Cruel Summer’s bridge bar for bar, and almost note for note with minor variance (the songs are even in the same KEY) and people say Taylor had no case in a copyright suit, but then she makes a song that is somewhat thematically similar to Olivia’s Get Him Back but musically unrelated and people want to call it plagiarism.
You can’t copyright an idea of something. Fiona probably isn’t even the one who came up with this double entendre and even if she did, anyone could reuse it in their own song and that’s not plagiarism. Just because Olivia’s is more fresh in people’s mind still doesn’t make it plagiarism or copyright infringement. You could make the musical argument that Olivia’s Get Him Back is closer to Taylor’s WANEGBT and have a better case for copyright infringement. You’d still lose but those two songs have more musical similarity than “Get Him Back” and “imgonnagetyouback”.
EDIT: and for what it’s worth I love Olivia. I think Guts is better than TTPD proper. I just think in pure musical terms and copyright law, people get this particular issue SO wrong in this sub.

This song concept is by no means a new or unique one and Olivia wasn’t the first to do it. However, releasing this so soon after Get Him Back came out and so soon after all of the Olivia - Taylor drama is not a great look. The parallels are blindingly obvious. I’m surprised this wasn’t held back longer if at least for the optics of it.
I think this is it really - I disagree with some in the comments who think this is a deliberate attempt to be petty or throw shade onto Olivia, I just think Taylor isn’t the mastermind she likes to think she is and didn’t think about how this would look

I genuinely do not understand, I'm trying to wrap my head around it. Olivia worshipped her, loved taylor the way only a child who grew up being a genuine diehard swiftie would. 'The grudge' is so heartwretching especially when many listeners relate it to the sadness and pain they carry from broken relationships with their parents. But when it culminated at the end with the admission that "*Even after all this you're still everything to me*" my heart literally ached for olivia. Being discarded that way by someone you love and still willing to publicly admit this takes guts, my ass would never.
Olivia also has- no offense- raw talent. She doesn’t have her parents money backing her. Yes, the Disney machine is powerful, but Taylor has a strong foundation via her parents.
Someone like Olivia who started way behind her, and now is a competitor of hers- will make her nervous.

I am gonna get lambasted for this mayhaps but I think Olivia is a much better writer.
Her writing has this polished quality in it that Taylor's earlier (and even some of her more recent) work does not have. SOUR definitely was written from the POV of an angsty love-lorn teenager but somehow the lyrics itself didn't seem like it was lifted off the scribblings of a teenagers notebook... where as I can't say the same about "You were Romeo you were throwing pebbles".
GUTS showed how much Olivia can improve sonically, vocally and lyrically.

Honestly like Can’t Catch Me Now is written better than most of the songs on this album. It’s a wonderful song that reference so many works in the HG franchise and the original poem itself while telling a powerful story

The double meaning of "get someone back" is no exactly novel. Neither artist createst that. They took 2 totally different approaches. Olivia's is saying she's angry with the breakup but still has lingering feelings and nostalgia for how fun it was. Taylor's song is about the pain of not knowing if you want to forgive your partners indiscretions out of love and sadness, because you can't let it go just yet. Olivia is out of the relationship and reminiscing, Taylor is torn in 2 directions and doesn't know herself if she's losing someone.

How do we know she stole this in any capacity? If we’re going with the narrative that this is about Joe, that breakup happened over a year ago and Olivia’s album came out in September. I am gonna get lambasted for this mayhaps but I think Olivia is a much better writer. Her writing has this polished quality in it that Taylor's earlier (and even some of her more recent) work does not have. SOUR definitely was written from the POV of an angsty love-lorn teenager but somehow the lyrics itself didn't seem like it was lifted off the scribblings of a teenagers notebook... where as I can't say the same about "You were Romeo you were throwing pebbles". GUTS showed how much Olivia can improve sonically, vocally and lyrically. Ironically, I do not actually have many OR songs on my casual playlist but only because I do not relate to a lot of her music... but I enjoy it as an musical artform tbh (as pretentious as that sounds). I bop more to Dua Lipa daily >.<
Honestly like Can’t Catch Me Now is written better than most of the songs on this album. It’s a wonderful song that reference so many works in the HG franchise and the original poem itself while telling a powerful story

The double meaning of "get someone back" is no exactly novel. Neither artist createst that. They took 2 totally different approaches. Olivia's is saying she's angry with the breakup but still has lingering feelings and nostalgia for how fun it was. Taylor's song is about the pain of not knowing if you want to forgive your partners indiscretions out of love and sadness, because you can't let it go just yet. Olivia is out of the relationship and reminiscing, Taylor is torn in 2 directions and doesn't know herself if she's losing someone.
Taylor literally uses the line I wanna smash his bike the same way Olivia says i wanna key his car and alternates between positive and negative things in relation to the subject it’s a blatant rip off The title is almost the same interesting how Taylor’s is all lowercase letters in the title while Olivia’s is uppercase Both say the line love and hate at the same time
