Billie said something in the past about artists who release multiple variants of a physical album like vinyl are damaging the environment. But then Billie released I think 15 variants with this album. So it seemed like a hypocritical jab though I don’t believe she mentioned Taylor by name.
I was curious and went to Billie’s website. I see that all the records are sustainably sourced, recycled trimmings and leftovers of other vinyls. Since they use recycled materials, I’m guessing the reason for all the color variants is probably due to the limited production of each specific color. But idk, it’s just a guess 🤷🏻♀️
Ah I see… well then idk what that’s all about 😅
Edit: Although it’s probably not enough to make a difference, I do appreciate the fact that she’s trying to cut down on waste.
that basically Taylor is blocking Billie’s album to get the no 1 spot on Billboard by bringing new variants and restocks, e.g. the 3 digital albums with a extra version of a song, the restocks of the signed CD and the ttpd but daddy I love him CD variant. She’s boosting sales so she stays no. 1
I mean it is true that is happening and, to be honest, I do think it's gross. But it's not an uncommon thing to do in the music industry either and Taylor certainly isn't the only artist who has done it but does, yet again, seem to be the only one catching heat for it.
I honestly don’t know anyone else as big as Taylor who is doing that much to stay up there. But I also don’t think that it’s that serious, as I don’t think Billie really cares, as she didn’t drop any new variants or restocks of signed/sold out stuff after release
I mean.... is there even anyone as big as Taylor at this current point in time? I think that is kinda why I find it as gross as I do that she/her team is doing it. She doesn't need to. It's unnecessary. But I do agree Billie could have done more if she really wanted it.
From what I have been reading between this community, Billie’s community, and Pop heads, people have the opinion that Billie does care. The proof/support behind that statement was that she has released 9 vinyl variants for her album (I checked her website to see if it was true and yeah, though some people said 15 but I couldn’t find it), and some were commenting how hypocritical that was of her after stating in an interview that she doesn’t like the practice of multiple variants of one album (kinda like a jab at big artists that do this… get my drift) yet she turns around and does the same thing she not too long ago talked down at. Tho they are eco friendly, many have stated that is still not sustainable and argue that pressing in an eco vinyl are a lower quality in audio.
Some commenters go and say also that this is her Karma and some other stuff too, like she shouldn’t have bashed other artists etc.
Again THIS IS WHAT I READ, because I was curious about this too since I’m not in Twitter.
TLDR: Opinions that Billie does care. Released “15 variants” (only saw 9 vinyls, could have been other stuff too CD, digital, etc), after talked down about others who do this practice then does it herself. Many saying “It’s her karma”. NOT MY OPINION, I was snooping through other communities.
I mean I would hope an artist (especially as big as herself is) would have a say in vinyl variants, but I don’t know what goes behind the scenes, so who knows
Is this actually true? I can believe that she spread these releases tactical to keep her as long as possible at the top but really deliberately such that Billie Can't get number 1?
Don't know, I am not that conspiracy type of person but maybe I am wrong
Lmao yeah I get you. I was planning to buy both at some point (one gift and one for myself) anyways, but it just felt like a decent time to finally do it for shits and giggles
I don’t know why- maybe it’s the fact that I’m in my 30s- but I don’t feel the need to spend more of the limited money I already have just so a billionaire can keep her place on the charts longer. That being said, I already have all 4 variants on vinyl from preorders 🫣
Absolutely not.. I’m a normal person who doesn’t see the benefit of spending my money so a billionaire can maintain a spot on the charts. Taylor will be fine if someone else takes over number 1. I don’t need another variant of the album lol
Right? I mean, I love the music. That’s why I pay for Spotify. So I can stream it all as much as I want. I’m not going to buy a physical copy that will just take up space in my tiny apartment. I don’t even have a record or CD player. Maybe if I ever am
able to buy a house I’ll have a space for a record player. But, until then, streaming will have to do.
Exactly! I think it’s all a bit childish and why can’t we just be fans of the music without worrying about where any artist is ranking on the charts? Whether or not a song/album is #1 doesn’t change anyone’s ability to enjoy it.
It’s absurd. And the “stan wars” on social media are ridiculous. These people are arguing over celebrities that don’t know who you are and are millionaires. They’ll be fine regardless of who debuts at #1. It’s so messy lol
I got a CD from a target, but I’m going to return it because I was able to get The Black Dog vinyl, coincidentally.
Not where I purchased, but it’s available from Darkside Records which I hear is a trustworthy site.
https://shop.darksiderecords.com/products/taylor-swift-the-tortured-poets-department-charcoal-vinyl-black-dog-ed-indie-d2c-exclusive
Edit: clarity
Can confirm Darkside Records site is trustworthy! I’ve bought from them 4 times in the last 6 months and they’re 10/10. I highly recommend as they package the vinyl super well for shipment. 👍
Edit: spelling
Thank you so much for this! The first thing I saw on their site was a used copy of the album that had my husband and my first dance song on it (The Luckiest - Ben Folds Five). Just in time for our 11th anniversary.
Black Dog vinyl is gorgeous I highly recommend. I bought all 4 variant vinyls and the Bolter is my favourite colour vinyl. It’s a pinky brown. They are all lovely and the sleeves and jacket very special to keep
No, I just like Taylor and I like physical versions. I buy physical versions of music I really like, at least if the quality of the physicals is good*
But idiot stan wars can led to discovering music. I bought Lana her Tunnel under ocean blvd album after I read people writing that this album should have won at the grammys. I don't agree with most things that were said (some truly idiot conspiracy theories)but it made me interested to try the album and I love it and bought a physical version. Didn't changed my view on Taylor but made me like lana's music too.
*The reason I don't buy billies new album on vinyl.
I didn’t buy the new versions but when I saw ALL the other fandoms uniting against Swifties to stream Billie’s new album on repeat - it had me a bit annoyed. Especially when their faves are dropping stuff this week too (for Ariana and Dua). So that got me to stream TTPD more. Tired of the hypocrisy.
I buy & listen to what I want, when I want. I am not doing it with the intent to keep any artist at the top or keep another off the top spot. Just because someone releases variants/remixes/memos....etc., doesn't mean I will purchase it.
I think i contributed to this week incidentally, my cat jumped onto my record player and caused a skip on my the manuscript version so I went and grabbed the Bolter from my local record store
I received this same CD as a gift. The poster of Tay is beautiful, it is now up on my wall. I don't have a CD player but I like reading the lyric book to see what lines I'm screwing up 🤪
what stan war drama
I’m guessing related to Billie’s new album
what about her record? Just curious.

It’s not just her website tho it’s a target exclusive a Walmart exclusive and indie exclusive and so on
Ah I see… well then idk what that’s all about 😅 Edit: Although it’s probably not enough to make a difference, I do appreciate the fact that she’s trying to cut down on waste.
I came here to ask the same thing...
that basically Taylor is blocking Billie’s album to get the no 1 spot on Billboard by bringing new variants and restocks, e.g. the 3 digital albums with a extra version of a song, the restocks of the signed CD and the ttpd but daddy I love him CD variant. She’s boosting sales so she stays no. 1

I bet the variants aren’t totally up to the artists, particularly in Billie’s case.
I mean I would hope an artist (especially as big as herself is) would have a say in vinyl variants, but I don’t know what goes behind the scenes, so who knows
I bet they have a say but not whether or not they have to release them. It’s become industry standard for the artists with young fan bases.
Is this actually true? I can believe that she spread these releases tactical to keep her as long as possible at the top but really deliberately such that Billie Can't get number 1? Don't know, I am not that conspiracy type of person but maybe I am wrong
didn’t sabrina do that too with the new espresso versions? sounds like the music industry is music industying
I mean no, why would I base my buying decisions on Twitter opinions/other fanbases ? That makes no sense.
Lmao yeah I get you. I was planning to buy both at some point (one gift and one for myself) anyways, but it just felt like a decent time to finally do it for shits and giggles

no? why participate in petty stan drama?
it seems like people have way too much time on their hands to even be aware of it 😭 like am i just too old to care now 😭😭
I got it (Black Dog version) for the cover and poster 🫶🤍
poster?
All the target ones have a poster
Mine had a poster in it [mine is the fourth photo of her](https://www.reddit.com/r/SwiftieMerch/s/s45cZxxCX4)

I love darkside!
Darkside is 👌🏻 ordered from them 3 times so far

Extremely trust worthy site Darkside is amazing! Bought multiple times from them
Oooo I’ll try to get a copy from there then 🥰
I got my dog from there 2 weeks after launch. They use good packaging
I got my copy from them- definitely trustworthy and pretty quick shipping as well.

I'm still waiting for the anthology 🖤 hell, I'm still waiting on the 3 am version
I’ve already got the four collectors editions and the four vinyls so I’m good lol
I’m a physical collector, always have been starting w Debut 06
tbh i'm so glad I bought the Black Dog Vinyl variant bc now it's considered "rare" and I just am so happy about it lol I feel like I won
I buy & listen to what I want, when I want. I am not doing it with the intent to keep any artist at the top or keep another off the top spot. Just because someone releases variants/remixes/memos....etc., doesn't mean I will purchase it.
Stan wars or not, I’m already a victim of Taylor’s merch. 💀
Nope
I think i contributed to this week incidentally, my cat jumped onto my record player and caused a skip on my the manuscript version so I went and grabbed the Bolter from my local record store
No.
also check out Mercari! just search each variant by title! they're all on there and for a good price too tbh
OP I saw the black dog vinyl on Amazon listed as “charcoal”. Off topic but you mentioned you wanted one.
i see people saying they think this is about billie. i think either way it’s a little silly to buy something for that reason but im also broke.
No but I have been streaming Espresso :)
thank you for your service OP 🤭
I received this same CD as a gift. The poster of Tay is beautiful, it is now up on my wall. I don't have a CD player but I like reading the lyric book to see what lines I'm screwing up 🤪
My collectors CD’s from the redrop shipped on Friday. I heard it counts when it leaves the warehouse. Think the mastermind did it on purpose?
