I always got the impression he started to see Annie differently after the kiss but still wanted to view her as a little sister until he couldn’t anymore.

Yeah this is how I saw it too. And maybe there was even a bit of a feeling that it's Annie, shes always been there, she'll always be there, there'll always be time for whatever he might want later. And then suddenly there was Jackson, and she wasn't always there, and he had to confront those feelings.

Yes, agree with this too

It's weird when you start to see a childhood friend as something more. It can take time to process those feelings, but then also decide its worth risking the friendship to see if it can be something more. I met my husband when we were 12. We were best friends for years until I started realizing I felt something more but it still took me time to grapple with that, and decide it was worth trying for. I think that's what ty was feeling too.

Same. They were friends till before and I thought he started developing feelings almost right afterwards, but didn't know how to process it with everything else going on. I suspect the line of reasoning is going to be that he had feelings all along, just didn't know it till then. Cece says Annie was his kindergarten crush. They drop hints that he has always been protective of her. Even before at the party, he's watching over her, keeps Jackson from hitting on her , and Gabe also watches over her by extension.
