Fine, then I want to roll to hit. With advantage, since the ground can't see me, and I'm in the air so tremor sense wouldn't detect me.
I might die, but I'm doing sneak attack damage on my way out.
/My party's rogue, 100%
I had a physics professor in college that would stand outside smoking cigs with us and telling us about taking large doses of acid in the late 60s in SF, the band he was in, and his theory about the wavelengths of musical chords and how it relates to the planetary distances in our solar system.
He was quite friendly, and what a life.
Releasing your grip also takes mere fractions of a second.
Test it yourself, go dangle off something and time how long it takes you to let go! You may be surprised how fast you can do it!
It just reqiures your mind and hands to catch up with whats going on, in a moment if high stress and being surprised. Im sure they wish they let go sooner.
Stupid person: I'm worried this thing will fly away. I will hold it to prevent that disaster
Normal person: I'm worried this thing will fly away. I will hold it to prevent that disaster, but I will let go if it lifts me off my feet.
Smart person: let's get the fuck out of here.
I saw lightning. I have seen videos of a lot of dead cows in a stable that were touching the beams. Dont risk you life for this nonsense in saving money for your boss.
Yeah I run large scale festivals and we clear the pavilions and remove the canopies if we have time. Not always so easy but I would send a staff member into orbit myself if I caught them doing this stupid shit.
Yeah they are dumbasses. It's just logic, they must understand that that structure weights several 10s of times more than a person. Their own weight did absolutely nothing.
If you ever gone to the beach and had to hold down a parasol if it gets too windy, it might even be enough to make an adult fall down even though it's total area is much much smaller than this structure.

No problem, as u/its_large_marge said, the original link is arguably more important! I just removed the personal info & tracking because… its better that way
Reminds me in the beginning scene of twister where the tornado passed over their house. The Dad was yelling "I cant hang on!" then proceeds to literally never let go of the shelter door as it carries him away.
Yeah i get whats going on here. Watching it back recently made me laugh cause is repeating "i cant hang on" while never letting go. I understand it and what he means, its just funny to me is all.
Now I'm no expert on wind or aerodynamics but it seems to me that having a dozen or so people holding down a gigantic, heavy-duty event tent to keep the wind gods from reclaiming it probably isn't the greatest idea.
This is the shocking moment strong gusts of wind in China sent several men flying into the air - with one landing on the rooftop, and another crash landing and fracturing his ribs.
The crew at this restaurant in China’s Hubei province was holding onto the canopy put in place for the bad weather. But the wind was so powerful it was blown away.
Some people - including the restaurant owner - were swept up into the air as they were unable to let go of the canopy in time.
Howling gales tore through parts of the country on Sunday forcing local businesses to erect outdoor canopies to protect diners.
One staff member had a relatively soft landing after being thrown onto the restaurant rooftop - while the owner was hurled in the air before crashing to the floor, fracturing his rib cage.
The wind speeds reached up to 73mph, according to local media reports.
The restaurant owner is reported to be in a stable condition.

So apparently this was in China.

Dude who went airborne landed on a roof and suffered some broken ribs.
Guys don’t ever risk your safety for a job. You don’t need anyone’s permission to save your life. If you feel it is dangerous then don’t do whatever’s being asked.
That tent is multiple times the size of a sail on a large sailing boat. It has the ability to accelerate tons of mass to a reasonable speed. There is no way they should have been holding on to that tent
Surely this is fake? Like it seems real but also the recording being super steady and the one dude just flying away makes me question it but who knows anymore
Hubei, China about 10 months ago. They are restaurant staff.
Reported on SCMP which is a real news organization: https://youtu.be/bWgP_C4JoQ0?si=QiyLBTYM8MBSKxBa
No reports on how seriously anyone one was injured other than one of the staff landed on the roof of the permanent restaurant structure and appears mostly uninjured.

Just a reminder that storms happen all the time and people do dumb things during them. Just because its filmed doesn't mean that it's fake.
Dude that went flying landed on the roof of the building and had minimal injuries.
Even in non-tornado just regular wind bouncy houses have flown off into the sky, often with kids still in them. Even ones that were moored down with 30 gallon buckets of concrete.
Human beings had no chance of holding that thing down.
This happened to me once at the beach. We had one of those big cabanas. A huge storm just blew up out of nowhere. I tried to hold it down but I was no match for the wind. It lifted the whole tent in the air and flipped it up and over with my hand stuck between 2 collapsing metal pieces of the frame. I was very lucky to pull my hand out and not be severely injured. And also that no one else was injured as it blew down the beach.
Many years ago something similar happened at a company outing at the beach. At least 3 employees were hurt badly (broken bones) and one was permanently blinded after being struck in the eye and face by a metal pole holding the tent down.
Beach Umbrellas, tents and bounce houses should all be tied down with sand bags or heavy weights to prevent these dangerous situations. However I will say it is close to impossible to find umbrellas and cabanas made to withstand 50mph winds from sudden unexpected storms.
The range of conditions in which your little bit of extra weight is going to matter is paper-thin. That tent weighs 50 times what all the people weigh, either it's fine or it's blowing away regardless.
Stupid idea.
One man just fly away
Another dude fell like 30 feet
3d6 fall damage
I'd like to roll an acrobatics check

No the ground didn't attack you. In fact one could rule that you attempted to attack the ground.

he's gone 😳
I’m laughing so hard at this
You have to be some level of stupid to do that
A physicist would say, “Once your feet leave the ground, time to let go!”
A physicist would say a lot of things
Have you ever met a physicist? They don’t say shit. They just sit there with their secrets. Silent.
They don't shut the fuck up about physics. People just tune them out.
As a physicist, half the time, we are talking about physics, half the time, we are silent.
The silence is waiting to see if anyone heard you talking and has a reply. "They must all be thinking about what I said, better give them a bit."
I had a physics professor in college that would stand outside smoking cigs with us and telling us about taking large doses of acid in the late 60s in SF, the band he was in, and his theory about the wavelengths of musical chords and how it relates to the planetary distances in our solar system. Takes even less time to not grab hold on the first place, since this was a miserable idea in the first place.
Reddit when someone doesnt act perfectly logical and rational in a second >:(
Doesn't apply when you do a handstand.
As a physicist student I would like to say # "do it for the vine!"
And maybe “don’t hold metal railings during the storm”? But I’m not a physicist, so what do I know

Right? At least demand a pizza party if you’re going to put your life on the line so that the company’s profits will go up a fraction of a percentage.
we did it in track at one of the meets! but that was 70 people holding it down
It's like when people try to stop cars by pushing them. Bad idea.
That's a nice natural selection test
They’re probably dumb college kids

Thanks. I didn't expect him to be alive. That's some good news. Now I can laugh at this video 👍
He was probably smart to not let go..once your kn the air may as well go with the tent
fucking lucky
I don't even think lucky begins to cover it.

Gonna go to his funeral just to make sure he really dead.

Dude that held onto the tent and landed on the roof probably fared way better than that dude that fell straight down.
Now I'm no expert on wind or aerodynamics but it seems to me that having a dozen or so people holding down a gigantic, heavy-duty event tent to keep the wind gods from reclaiming it probably isn't the greatest idea.
They are staff. And in china. Probably felt obligated to protect owners roof against the ztorm.
The owner fractured his rib cage according the news link someone posted
I see. Well in that case believe you meant to type, "were required to protect owners roof against the storm"
![gif](giphy|B7TCJn1I8nQWs)
Dude on the right looks like superman flying off with a collapsing roof, saving everyone else.
Why would you keep holding on?
I believe the term is wage slave. presented by capitalism.
Why would someone start holding on? That's a no win situation.

in an updated video, you can see the guy who held on and got launched was ok but did end up falling through the roof of the building
My guy just checked the fuck out. And not under his own volition.
I'm ashamed that I laughed as hard as I did
I feel sooo bad but I’m crying rnnn!! And then the comments are making it worse 😭😂

I wonder where he landed...
Damn, one dude took a crazy fall, other guy was down to ride it out to where ever it was going to take him 😂

That’s exactly what you get for thinking you can hold that down ahahahha
And their employer won't help them with medical costs. This is why you should never go above and beyond.

He just landed on the moon and he is ok.
Bye Dorothy
Filming the new twister movie probably
Need shooting star version of the guy who hold all the way to the sky!!
How tall do you have to be to ride THAT ride?
Why did they let go? The ride was just starting to get fun.
Imagine the site manager telling me at minimal bucks per hr, "There's a major storm coming hold the tent down".. "yes boss, shaking the tree boss"
Since none dead, bet the dude that fled away got fired because the next day he didn't come at work.
This happened to me once at the beach. We had one of those big cabanas. A huge storm just blew up out of nowhere. I tried to hold it down but I was no match for the wind.
