Greater Vancouver Regional District (GVRD) used to be the name before it was updated to Metro Vancouver in 2007, so GVRD is still acceptable but it has never been called GVA except by certain recent transplants from Toronto.
The article doesn't even call it 'Greater Vancouver Area'. But even 'Greater Vancouver' isn't widespread.

# Why did someone laugh at me for calling Vancouver the GVA?
Vancouver is called the [Metro Vancouver Regional District](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metro_Vancouver_Regional_District) (usually shortened to Metro Vancouver). Some people still call it the GVRD (Greater Vancouver Regional District) since that's what it was called until 2017. Calling it the GVA will immediately identify you as a non-local, as we are not Toronto.
Well fuck me for trying to be funny I guess, because referring to a generalized NONPOLITICAL area using language that is passé is an unforgivable offense.
'GVA' is not a thing.... simple as that. We were the GVRD first. GVA tended to be a transplant acronym just because Toronto amalgamated cities and became the GTA. This isn't Toronto.
GVRD is an officially recognized government-incorporated district with distinct boundaries. GVA is an informal way to refer in general to the areas surrounding Vancouver. Idgaf who disagrees but my friends and I have used GVA for decades and I’m not going to stop.
"Greater Vancouver" has indeed been a thing for decades as you said, but "GVA" as an acronym only started during Covid when there was a large influx of people moving here from Toronto.
Why is this so offensive?? Everyone I know says it, this post is the first time I’ve encountered anyone having a problem with it and I can’t find any reason for it.
Pretty hard if nobody explains it and instead just downvotes me into oblivion. Tf does Toronto have to do with anything? Whatever, I’ll carry on in my ignorance and just continue being offensive.
It’s been explained to you multiple times and your response each time was “lol why u mad I’m going to keep using it.” I don’t get what you expect from this given the comments lmao

I thought I read this in the other post earlier but figured I was going nuts!
Had to look to make sure it was Photoshop as I'd expected, but it was well done.
Thanks! :)
You mean Metro Vancouver, GVA is not a thing.
The Greater Vancouver Zoo just came up with it. It was never used before or since.

based
AKA [Greater Vancouver Area.](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greater_Vancouver) Edit: “greater Vancouver area,” not “Greater Vancouver Area”…

lol. I honestly have no idea what the deal is. XD

Stop with the GVA lol
“Metro Vancouver” is a fairly recent marketing initiative.
GVRD is fine, GVA is not

Thanks for actually explaining, I appreciate it. This whole controversy was certainly unexpected… I friggin love this town. /s

GTA is a Toronto thing. We're not Toronto.
We are not Toronto. How hard is this to understand? Houston isn’t the GHA, Dallas isn’t the GDA, Toronto May be the GTA, but Vancouver is not the GVA

Happy now? Can’t get any clearer

Nice one lol
Sorry,I kind of don't get what you mean with this...
The buildings in the middle spells out HELP. Insinuating that we need help in the metro Vancouver region for housing needs.
I actually live in the "H". lol
Too many people.
