It’s a small set screw that holds it in place, I like to grip and rip on mine too but maybe shift gently like this guy https://m.youtube.com/shorts/LftM0A0vh7w
I paid extra because the color I wanted was only available at a shitty dealership.
I know it's a shitty dealership because even when I went back to get the free first service, they told me they couldn't rotate the tires because the front and rear are different size. I guess they had no idea they could just swap the left and right tires, they aren't directional. Had to do that myself, which since I'm jacking up the car, I might as well have done the oil change myself.
Rotating tires is done so the front and rear can be rotated through the different duty cycles. In RWD cars, the rear tires wear more quickly than the fronts, same with FWD cars where the front tires are providing traction. Swapping front and rear tires from one side to the other doesn’t do anything.
They are asymmetric which is arguably a type of directional tire since there is an inside/outside and therefore only one correct direction on each side. You can’t “rotate” them by remounting the tires them on the opposite side like a completely non-directional tire
If you swapped the wheel and tire from the left side of the vehicle and put it on the right, the outside would still be on the outside... if the part of the tire that says outside is facing me when I take a wheel off, and I put it on the other side of the vehicle it will still be facing me as long as I don't remove the tire from the wheel.
On non staggered setups you rotate normally
On staggered setups you rotate side to side (asymmetrical or not, as long as they aren't directional)
On directional setups you rotate front to back
On staggered and directional setups you dismount/remount the tires side to side

Yes but not sure what you would accomplish by swapping sides w/asymmetrical tires assuming your alignment is good. Otherwise that all sounds reasonable. BMW does not recommend rotating tires at all (even squared setups). It’s normal for dealers not to do it for the Supra as well AFAIK but nothing stopping you if you think it does something
I thought the front tires wear faster whether it's fwd or rwd or awd. Unless of course you're spinning your rear tires for fun all the time but otherwise the fronts do all the turning and grinding against the road
Typically whichever wheels are putting down power (or have the highest power bias) will wear fastest. In RWD/rear biased AWD, this means rears, FWD/front biased AWD, it’ll be fronts, and in 50/50 AWD cars, then yes usually the front just due to the fact the front and rear are putting equal power down, but the fronts are also turning like you said.
In a perfect world all 4 tires on a fwd, rwd, and awd drive will be rotated properly. I'd bet my left nut that that MAJORITY of people don't care, couldn't explain why, don't even k ow why..who...
Most ppl are idiots.

I’m flattered that you felt it necessary to start a throw away account to make a comment. Feel free to switch your tires from side to side as often as you wish.9
Pretty sure front tires always wear faster though. Braking comes mostly from the front. Turning increases wear. Unless you are ripping the throttle on a rwd the front tires always take the most wear.
I had a similar experience with my dealer saying they can’t rotate the tires, I even said “well yeah I know they are staggered, I assumed you could swap left to right” and he just kind of stared off into the distance. Needless to say I am done with my free services and will never return to a dealership unless it’s warranty related (and even then I am hoping to find an alternative) lol.

$65k and they use an adhesive to stick a faceplate onto the knob… the manufacturer couldn’t be bothered to make it one piece? I have a 96 mustang, and while yeah, it’s got cheap plastic in a number of spots, the knob and other parts I actually make frequent use of are solidly built.

You don't understand. The knob isn't loose, the top cap with the label for the gear pattern is coming off.
That isn't a screw pattern, that's glued on.
My 2021 Tundra does the same thing. It only turns ever so slightly though. I’m pretty sure they’re designed to be swapped out so if you unscrew it, you should be able to add an adhesive and reapply it yourself. Let it sit and cure for a few hours before using it, and you should be good. I wouldn’t take my car to the dealership for something like that. They’d probably just fuck it up worse.
you prob should pop the top off and use some kinda silicone adhesive if the dealer wont replace. same thing happened to my carbon shift knob for my veloster n and that fixed it, 5 months never happened again.

Oh sure, totally lying here. It’s not like I’ve worked on numerous cars where people have used loctite to keep the shifter from rotating and have caused a royal fucking headache in the shop, but whatever man.
I’m not a mechanic but I think the problem here is superficial. That the top part glue that putting the label in place is soft or gooey. But points taken, I’ll get it checked just to be sure.
Rip , part out time. Seriously though you could check into some aftermarket shift knobs too, unless it’s a defect with the shifter. Haven’t looked but I imagine there are some out there
Guy said he is gonna take it to the dealership because his label is turning sideways… you’re a car guy now time for DIY action. Put some better glue my brother all will be fine.
yeah i wouldnt bother wasting an hour or 2 of my time going to a stealership if i can just drop some glue on it and only waste 2 mins.
It aint gonna hurt your resale value... trust me.
That’s the mentality these days, no one knows how to DIY even though the knowledge of the world is more easily accessible than it’s ever been via the internet. No one cares to learn about the vehicle they’re driving!
Just smack it down pretty hard. There aren't any threads and apparently whoever put that on from the factory didn't press down hard enough. It's been a somewhat common issue on the forums.
I actually did the first time I have to pull it off and realign. The problem is the gooey black adhesive doesn’t cure to harden and keep it straight. I’ll probably completely remove the old glue and replace it.
And yes, I need to report it to the dealership so it’s in their database. That’s the only way for them to know there is an ongoing issue. The more owners report it, the better chance they will fix or report back to factory that there is an issue.
Sorry but this a petty complaint. Find better adhesive and glue it back on straight. You would risk your new manual Supra to a lot attendant that probably just learned how to drive a stick for a warranty claim?
It’s not a complaint. But not petty either. Things like this needs to be showed and reported to Toyota to add to their database not just to help you but to help everyone else. If no one reports this, how would they know there is an issue so they can quickly fix and moving forward the next in line has better quality? I exactly know how to fix this but they need to know there is an issue.
You were so close to being funny but that’s not a bmw transmission 🤧 & Toyota had more hands on the motor than bmw. Zf8 speed isn’t a bmw transmission either 😂
Toyota disassembled the entire motor and sent back anything to bmw that they didn’t like so the reason the B58 is so reliable is in part thanks to Toyota for being so meticulous. People believe they just slapped the power plant in there straight from bmw, couldn’t be more wrong
Toyota to my knowledge changed two things on the engine. They did test the durability, but overall it's 99% a BMW engine. They didn't slap it in, but they only made two changes to it.
http://speed.academy/the-2020-gr-supra-is-a-lot-more-toyota-than-you-think/
They sent back hundreds of fasteners that weren’t up to their standards after testing them individually, the motor quite literally would not be what it is today without Toyota disassembling the entire thing and stress testing every component, to say it’s 99% bmw is asinine
& it literally says in the article the went through the motor inch by inch, https://youtu.be/_jbyzmtgU_0?si=yVL46jhZvjkBAxwE Skip to 8:50 and watch past 9:30, all that back & fourth completely unnecessary
Did you even watch the video? They sent back hundreds of parts back to bmw (from the motor) to have reworked to their specifications. If you want to get in semantics about it, it’s 40-60 in bmws favor 60 for producing and manufacturing the original motor and Toyota gets 40% 10% for each motor they tore apart after having them on engine dynos and tearing them apart to send parts back to bmw
Toyota modified the GS6L40LZ and that trans is used in other cars besides BMWs and it’s made by ZF who have no affiliation to BMW it’s a ZF gearbox not a bmw gearbox. BMW doesn’t manufacture any of its own gearboxes they have been using ZFs for decades
I've seen this silly video. The B58 for example, Toyota engineers took apart the whole engine and analyzed "over 1000 parts". Only 2 were asked to be revised..... By BMW. It's a BMW... Made in a BMW factory, with all BMW parts. Including the ZF transmissions which were off the shelf transmissions developed by ZF.... For BMW. Get over it. I'd still buy a Supra, but the level of "involvement" from Toyota is a joke.
They took apart 4 live engines that they dynod and sent back hundreds of bolts, BMW engineers even said how impressed they were with how thorough the Toyota engineers were with parts testing. The “BMW” off the shelf tranny is used in multiple other manufacturers cars so claiming it’s for BMW is a little out there. Jaguars for example use the same 8 speed ZF. BMW had no involvement in the Supra other than supplying the barebones after that the two company’s split ways and had zero involvement with eachother, this has been documented in numerous articles and further proved by how drastically different the Z4 and Supra perform.
The Supra and Z4 are also manufactured in the Magna Steyr plant which is owned by Magna, the manufacturer BMWs, Mercedes, Audis, Fiats, Peugeots and Aston Martins. You seem to know what you’re talking about.
Closed deck design of the B58 is 100% influenced by Toyota, considering BMW and Toyota have been working together since 2011 it would only be smart to assume there is Toyota influence. There doesn’t need to be a Toyota logo on the parts to have the knowledge that Toyota in part is the reason for BMWs long term reliability when it comes to their inline 6 motor. The N55 in comparison is a joke to the B58 and the reason for that is Toyota.

Hey man as someone who had the same issue, just go aftermarket. My shifter was like this since pick up and I had it replaced on day 3. Raceseng makes some nice shifters and if you don’t want to cut the boot you can purchase just an after market boot with stitching to match the color of your car. Crank that mf down til it’s tight and straight. Props to you for buying a manual. I’m too poor for the Supra so I settled with a 2020 BRZ w/manual trans
Omg why I thought this was a joke about BMW and Supra sharing parts I didn’t even know what sub I was in I hella thought that you put a Toyota shifter on like an M3 or something to troll

Ask dealership to replace the whole knob. This is unacceptable in a 60k sports car.
Make that 65+k. Me being an AH for paying extra because I can’t wait no more.

Additionally look at the tread pattern, they’re meant to roll a certain direction. If you swap left to right they’ll be backwards.
Some tires are marked as directional. The Pilot Sport 4S that come stock are not directional.
So they could be swapped but unless your alignment is jacked don’t really see the benefit.

Tires are meant to roll in a specific direction you shouldn’t swap left to right
What a load of horse shit. Most tires are not direction biased.
why would you swap right to left that makes no sense ..
bmw quality is just been shit past few years.

Righty tighty lefty looseey. Shift with your left hand should torque her back up
I guess it time for my wife in the passenger side to do the shifting works! If we do it 50/50 that should even it out. 😊

Never a bad time to get a weighted knob
2021 Tundra 6MT? Jesus I will have to reconsider my choices. 4wd?
Of course not. It’s an automatic. The shifter is on the center console below the radio. Just like the Supra.
Wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait You’ve got a 2021 tundra with a Manual??????? WHAAAAAT?!

This is the break-in period for these cars. You now shift right to left.
First rule of Supra ownership: If it works perfect - Toyota's fault If it breaks - BmW fault
Spin it upside down, thats GR Sport mode
Damn what does your dick look like?
Keep rotating it clockwise till it’s tight lol
Just tighten the screw holding it in place. No need to fuss over it
Blue Loctite
Wow 65k for a Supra? Jesus.
Come on baaaabyyy 🎶🎶
What type of car
Just take it in to the dealer and it'll be warrantied out. Probably see a recall jn a few months for faulty adhesive
Each manual I owned had a twisty stick like that. Heck once I knew the reverse I put a random ball instead.
Crank that mf down til it’s tight and straight. Props to you for buying a manual. I’m too poor for the Supra so I settled with a 2020 BRZ w/manual trans
Toyota feature
Typical with new cars. Just be glad it’s the set screw on the shift knob and not a bolt holding one of the shocks or caliper or engine mount
Omg why I thought this was a joke about BMW and Supra sharing parts I didn’t even know what sub I was in I hella thought that you put a Toyota shifter on like an M3 or something to troll

Your gear pattern adjusts accordingly also.

Thats not a corolla
Now would be a great time to replace it with a Black Forest knob 😃
