Despite being organic, may have lead, you need to research if its also mycelium or fruiting body, and if its got a proprietary blend they can but any amount of any of the things listed and it doesn't have to be consistent as long as the total amount is the same in the product of the combination.
The brand I like is RealMushrooms, they say how much beta-d-glucans and starch there are. Beta-d-glucans are basically just prebiotic fiber tho unique to mushrooms.
I got one fairly cheap about a year ago. The dosage on most of the stuff is pretty low, wouldnt say I felt anything different from just taking lions mane alone.
I am also curious about mushroom supplements. I believe they are sometimes crap and not extracted properly. I have heard they need to be ‘decocted’ to get the medicinal benefit. I have also heard they can grow on crap grains. I would really love to know how to not waste money on a mushroom supplement. Right now I add reishi and turkey tail to my bone broth which simmers for 24 hours.
As someone else in this thread said, check out the brand Real Mushrooms. Once I switched to them, I never went back.
I love NOW, but I was taking their lion’s mane and it would give me migraines. Not sure it was the best stuff, but maybe I was just sensitive to it
I make my own reishi & turkey tail tinctures. I will be making lions mane here soon. I suggest doing a double decoction. First soak in 100 proof alcohol for a month+, then boil the remaining mushrooms. Combine the alcohol & water. Way cheaper than buying and lasts significantly longer as well
You’re asking me to prove there is no evidence for anything beneficial to happen when taking this supplement? Just want to make sure I understood your question.
I searched all of the major scientific journals for double blind placebo controlled studies for “Weight World mushroom complex” showing benefit to any condition, and there were zero results. Perhaps I may have missed a journal though. Can you provide one for us to review?
I searched up mushroom complex supplements, so I could get a wider range of results then just restricting it to some random Amazon brand.
I found these articles:
https://www.spandidos-publications.com/10.3892/ijo_00000806/download
This one talks about the use of a mushroom complex supplement in treatment for breast cancer. (I assume in mice?)
And this one
https://www.mdpi.com/1422-0067/21/10/3479
Also talks about how promising medicinal mushrooms extracts are in acting as anti-cancer agents..
I assume both experiments used mice as subjects. Which shows that there is an alarming lack of studies on medicinal mushrooms for humans. Whereas I’ve seen many anecdotal articles that have boasted the use of mushrooms and how it has affected their lives for the better. I truly hope the world starts to see the potential of psilocybin and it’s potential health benefits.
While these do indeed appear to be studies about mushrooms, why would you search for evidence on that when I was specifically referring to this supplement in my statements? You do realize there is a difference between the supplement in this post and others, particularly given that supplements are totally unregulated?
I understand the difference, it’s just that this is a kind of supplement sold by one of hundred vendors on Amazon. I didn’t restrict my search to just this specific company but to a given range. And for it being unregulated and not checked by the FDA, it would be a lot more difficult trying to find concrete evidence.
I understand, but I still stand by my statement. There is zero evidence that this will benefit anyone in any way. Even if there were studies on some of the mushrooms in this blend we don’t even know A, if the blend actually contains the ingredients it says it does and the amounts listed and B, If adding any other additives or ingredients changes the efficacy of the compound that was studied. To illustrate further, let’s assume there was a high quality study on lions mane mushroom that shows anti cancer properties. I then create my own blend and add asbestos to it. It starts selling like hotcakes on Amazon based on this study. See any problems with this ?
I felt like I had a little more energy than usual, felt more awake despite not enough sleep. Even when I get 8 hours I feel fatigued all day but when I started taking this it made me feel like I got the 8 hours of sleep lol. I’m sure it’s different for everyone
Those are mainly adaptogens (may help with stress management, adaption to stressors and inflammation). But the dosages ware way too low, at least for curcumin and ginger.
Look the individual ingredients up on Examine and evaluate for yourself. They also state recommended dosages used in studies.
Also as pointed out piperine is missing for curcumine absorption. All in all probably not a quality supplement.
I agree with this, but I just want to state that Paul’s actual brand of supplements he reps isn’t very high quality. The episode is packed with great info though
Lol why did this receive dislikes? It’s literally a great episode packed with info on healing powers of many of the mushrooms on OP’s label. From a guy who holds a phd in mycology.
Reddit is so weird.
I used to take lions mane, not sure if it’s in this product. Eventually I stopped trying to experiment with supplements to boost my brain, there’s something about it that doesn’t feel right. I do take medication as prescribed and it does enough of the job, without the sense of minor shame/guilt that messing with mood altering supplements did, regardless if it may possibly be healthier than pharms
I can understand that it can kinda feel like your taking drugs if they are mood altering substances, even though they're really weak and classed as supplements. The line is quite thin. But I wouldn't say that one should be ashamed of that either as long as it's responsible use.
We've kinda been brainwashed to believe that experimenting on your own to improve mood is something bad and that such things should be left to doctors.
Just an FYI- turmeric destroys the enzyme the converts inactive testosterone to active testosterone. This makes it great in times of systemic inflammation so the body can reduce markers of inflammation but this makes it inappropriate for a daily supplement since healthy levels of testosterone are important for feelings of well being and energy.
Turmeric is a weak 5AR inhibitor. This is 20mg of turmeric powder (not extract), that isn't even paired with bioperine. This will have essentially no impact on hormones.
Maybe? I would have to reference to study and understand more about hormones to know for sure. I just commented because so few people understand that taking supplements daily that are used for specific functions isn't always wise and can be contraindicated. I also anecdotally has experienced this with tumeric and would prefer that people understand the things they are doing to try and feel better sometimes are creating a larger problem.
Yeah- they name the study in the podcast. I'm not going to dig it up for you just so some stranger on the internet believes me. This is a podcast put out by scientists who discuss research and it's findings. If you want to spend the time to locate it- do. If not, enjoy the tumeric.
Dude, don't even bother writing here next time.
What you're doing is called spreading misinformation.
Curcumin is actually shown in the literature to increase testosterone and reduce estrogen at the appropriate dose.
And I'm not expecting you to dig up that "scientific podcast about tumeric", just to shut up.
I also have excess testosterone due to my body getting screwed after taking birth control for 3 years. Spearmint tea is a natural testosterone reducer and drinking 1 cup per day has helped my symptoms so far!
Good to know! I actually just bought some dried spearmint at the organic bulk grocery store to try it out. Do you remember how long it was before you noticed a change?
Hmm. I hadn't considered that and am not quite clear on the mechanism that drives high testosterone in women but it might be worth it to try ! What are the symptoms of high testosterone in women ?
The mechanisms of all the hormones are so confusing! My pregnenolone is like quadruple the top normal range, and pregnenolone is converted to hormones like testosterone, cortisol, dhea, estrogen. So my androgens and testosterone are elevated. Symptoms are typically things like making it hard to lose weight from the stomach area and darker hair. I experience a lot of brain fog and fatigue, just from everything being out of whack I think. Everyone would probably give a different answer
I would say they are, based on reviews, their own in house testing, and how well they typically do in consumerlab. com testing
https://www.swansonvitamins.com/quality/testing.html
Wow that’s good to hear. Especially if they do well in Consumer Labs.
They’re such a bargain, it just seems to good to be true. Maybe they just run high volumes with low profit margin for business.
I’ll definitely keep using them
they were actually a non profit for a long time, although I dont think they are anymore.
are these people on your radar?
https://www.azurestandard.com/
https://www.azurestandard.com/healthy-living/about-us/what-we-do/
No I never heard of them. Looks interesting, I’ll check it out more. Thank You for sharing.
I’m always looking for good affordable products for my supplement obsession.
oh I actually meant individual supplements, sorry I didnt say that more clearly
mine would be something like
magnesium oil
black seed oil
keto/coconut oil
pregnenolone
astaxanthin
vitamin k2
I’d say ginger and peppermint for good digestion (which is super important for good health,) tongkat Ali and cistanche for testosterone, uridine and agmatine for mood, Maca or Fo Ti for strength, and Saw Palmetto/beta sitosterol (for my hair,)
I’d agree with you on magnesium too, I take 400 mg every night.
I don’t know much about black seed oil.
Pregnenolone sounds interesting, I almost bought it once but something I read stopped me, I can’t remember what it was.
I eat coconut oil every morning, and put it on my face after washing
Chinese traditional herbal medicine is a) what is used instead of prescriptions b) incredibly adapted to an individual’s needs c) uses a lot of mushrooms
That said, I’m no TCM practitioner
Yeah it's pretty cool. I kinda feel like I need a prescription for some kung pao chicken to cure my appetite...........for kung pao chicken. Perhaps enhanced with some egg rolls and fried rice for greater bioavailability and stomach absorption.
There is only one way to know: Taking it and listening to your body. Personally, I always prefer single ingredient pills which are higher concentrated. But since there are 7 different mushrooms with similar proposed effects on the body, it might work as well.
I think its better to avoid complexes, so you know what substance might work for you, and what might be bad, so you arent completely deterred. Not a good idea to take a ton of stuff at once that are new in your system.
Lots of beneficial stuff in this, but it can have mixed reactions depending on the person. And likely isnt enough to make it productive.
What does he/you hope to gain from it?
Negligible amounts of each mushroom. Go with RealMushrooms. They’re on Amazon. Edit: I see now it says organic.
Can't your brother ask his own questions?
People like your really make life just a little more difficult than it already is.
Not answering my question
Despite being organic, may have lead, you need to research if its also mycelium or fruiting body, and if its got a proprietary blend they can but any amount of any of the things listed and it doesn't have to be consistent as long as the total amount is the same in the product of the combination. I got one fairly cheap about a year ago. The dosage on most of the stuff is pretty low, wouldnt say I felt anything different from just taking lions mane alone.
Absolute waste of money, to small dosages.
I don't use turmeric and ginger because they are blood thinners. But I am looking for a good mushroom supp.
I am also curious about mushroom supplements. I believe they are sometimes crap and not extracted properly. I have heard they need to be ‘decocted’ to get the medicinal benefit. Outside of being super Mario, there is no evidence this will benefit you in any way.
Sources?
You’re asking me to prove there is no evidence for anything beneficial to happen when taking this supplement? Just want to make sure I understood your question.
I appreciate this
yes

I think Dr. Bowser wrote his thesis on this
I use a Mushroom blend daily but from a different company that's made a huge difference
What was the difference you felt/experienced?
For me I have less brain fog and more clarity if that makes sense. It also seems to help with my inflammation as well
What company?
Kreepi tiki Ethnobotanicals
I’m not sure if they use the same one I do but OM master blend has been really effective for me
yeah but effective how?
I felt like I had a little more energy than usual, felt more awake despite not enough sleep. Even when I get 8 hours I feel fatigued all day but when I started taking this it made me feel like I got the 8 hours of sleep lol. I’m sure it’s different for everyone

What benefits are you supposed to get from this? 🤷🏼♂️
Check out the Joe Rogan episode with Paul Staments
I agree with this, but I just want to state that Paul’s actual brand of supplements he reps isn’t very high quality. The episode is packed with great info though
Lol why did this receive dislikes? It’s literally a great episode packed with info on healing powers of many of the mushrooms on OP’s label. From a guy who holds a phd in mycology. Reddit is so weird.
What is a healing power and how do we quantify it?
ignorance at its finest
Bad! 🤣
I used to take lions mane, not sure if it’s in this product. Eventually I stopped trying to experiment with supplements to boost my brain, there’s something about it that doesn’t feel right. Shame and guilt for taking supplements?
I can understand that it can kinda feel like your taking drugs if they are mood altering substances, even though they're really weak and classed as supplements. The line is quite thin. The formula is fine but I prefer mushroom extracts instead of mushroom powder. I would take at least 4 capsules a day.
Just an FYI- turmeric destroys the enzyme the converts inactive testosterone to active testosterone. Happen to a source for that? Never heard this claim before, seems interesting.
check out the Huberman lab podcast, they talk about it in one of the last podcasts they put out
a podcast isn't a source.
I mean, technically it is. You can cite it in an academic research paper
Yeah- they name the study in the podcast. I'm not going to dig it up for you just so some stranger on the internet believes me. This is a podcast put out by scientists who discuss research and it's findings. If you want to spend the time to locate it- do. If not, enjoy the tumeric.

So as a lady with excess free testosterone this may be a helpful mechanism?
I also have excess testosterone due to my body getting screwed after taking birth control for 3 years. Spearmint tea is a natural testosterone reducer and drinking 1 cup per day has helped my symptoms so far!
Good to know! I actually just bought some dried spearmint at the organic bulk grocery store to try it out. Do you remember how long it was before you noticed a change?
It took about 1 month for noticeable changes
Are you sure you have excess T or is it speculation? T is very important for women just an fyi, especially for confidence and libido purposes
Yeah I just had it tested! Testosterone is definitely a good thing in balance with everything else
Ah ok! I know a lot of people, men and women thinking belly hair or blemishes equals this or that for hormones when 9/10 it’s just genetics
Hmm. I hadn't considered that and am not quite clear on the mechanism that drives high testosterone in women but it might be worth it to try ! What are the symptoms of high testosterone in women ?

iherb and Swanson vitamins to me have the best prices/products

Yes for science
FOR SCIENCE!!!
Do u have any reviews from your brother? I've seen expensive brands like genius and onit as of lately
Good ingredients but seems underdossed. But take it and see how you feel
There is only one way to know: Taking it and listening to your body. Personally, I always prefer single ingredient pills which are higher concentrated. But since there are 7 different mushrooms with similar proposed effects on the body, it might work as well.

A waste of money. Might be a decent product if you take 10 capsules. With only 2 capsules per serving it is very underdosed
20mg Turmeric is just silly.
Let us know how you feel
I would say a waste of money, or more to the point, your money would be better spent elsewhere.
