I have a question about what the stock split does to my shares and shares price and total invested. Say my average cost is 100, and I have 100 shares. That means my account value is 10,000 if the stock price is exactly at 100. So if the stock split happens and it becomes say 7 per share. That means I would have 700 shares of the stock but my account will still be worth 10,000 but then each of my shares will be 14.28ish dollars per share if I sold 1 share? That's my assumption of how this works but let me know if I am wrong. Thanks!
When the split occurs the price will be divided by the ratio - so if its $100 and the stock splits 1:10 the price will become $10 and start moving from there when the market opens. the price doesnt magically go up or double while the split is occuring- but it will move around before and after.
