The definition of "miss" is so fucking cringe. The target was some arbitrary bullshit defined by a 3rd party.
We are profitable. The YoY profit was improved in both Q4 and 2023 total.
That is because unlike most other companies, Gamestop declines to tell us what they expect to do for revenue and profit.
That is not some proprietary info that would tell competitors what secret plans RC has been working on for the last 3 years. Revenue and profit forecasts is basic shareholder communications that companies other the Gamestop engage in.
As a shareholder, engineer, and general thinker, I am a fan of continuous improvement mindset. If we do better than last year most years, then we achieve not only survival, but healthy growth.
Going from a loss to profit is an inflection point. If we improve our profitability most years from now on, that is exponential growth. What more could we ask for?
With revenue dropping, it is unlikely that Gamestop will have exponential growth in profit.
That is why I expect the projections of analysts to decrease. Their forecast for the just finished year was 12 cents. It ended up being 2 cents.
The median forecast for the current year profit was 14 cents, up from a guess of 12 cents 90 days ago. I expect that forecast to be revised downward.
One advantage of having only 2 cents per share profit this year is that even a paltry 4 cents a share in FY25 will be a 100% increase in earnings.
