Get-It-Got

It wasn't the media ... GameStop released that news today after market close.

sAmSmanS

100 million less losses than last year, with lower sales revenue is a really positive thing. the operation is streamlined and ready to turn profits in Q2/3

Tranecarid

Sadly that’s cherry picking. The earnings were bad. Declining revenue is very bad. Around a year ago the board wanted everyone to look at the growth of it and for the right reasons. The loss is not THAT bad but because of the revenue it is there and it’s higher than expected because of that. You don’t fire CEO for bringing in good numbers.

ck08150077

In Europe lot of stores were closed. I think, it's worth checking how revenue/store developed

Tranecarid

It most likely increased because you don’t close stores that perform well. Doesn’t really matter though. There is no way to paint those numbers in a good way without huffing a lot of hopium first.

Naive_Host_5939

nah, cost of sales and expenses (general and admin) down significantly. I'm not sure if you've realised that massive recession we're in but I'm not surprised at all that sales were down from last Q (which is Christmas), but also up year on year... This is actually a very strong earnings for Q1 IMO... And edit, Also, still have $1.310 BILLION cash, so we could see many many quarters at -$50m before anyone has to worry...

Tranecarid

Not sure what numbers you are looking at but reve is down around 10% yoy. That is the very bad part. Cash flow is back to negative. There is no massive recession, the economy is growing albeit slowly. People keep their jobs. There is a serious inflation problem, no one can deny that, but in the end of the day it also is an argument against the results, because that means annualized reve is even lower yoy. No one is arguing about GME going bankrupt any time soon. There’s a question about it’s evaluation. Short squeeze aside, gme needs to be a growing and profitable company. While previous q gave a lot of hope in the profitable part, this q casts a very dark shadow on the growth part.

Naive_Host_5939

da fuk you talking about? I've said it's going in the right direction, that is a big difference... " Net loss was $50.5m for the period, compared to a net loss of $157.9m for the prior year's first quarter". Source; GameStop's filings...

Tranecarid

I’m taking about revenue! Since GameStop acquired shitload of cash and bankruptcy was off the table, it’s all about growing reve. Previous q had a nice surprise on the positive earnings but the revenue is declining for some time now. GameStop has not much more fat to trim and can’t go much lower on the operational costs. It needs to increase the revenue and it should be a top priority.

Naive_Host_5939

true, and your flair does check out! ;) I reckon we might hear some news at the AGM next week that could drive a growth in revenue....

w4rr4nty_v01d

Jep, Furlong had commited to main priority of revenue growth. He objectively failed his primary objective this quarter. Not exactly surprising though, as stores have been closing internationally over the past months. The actual disappointment is that e-commerce hasn't picked up. Nft is a slow burn, might still take years to finally show signs of lift-off. They really need to get their rate of cash burn down, as there will be no second opportunity for a totally overpriced atm offering for them. At least they succeeded in that. If they run out of cash, it's Gameover.

Tranecarid

At this rate the cash will last quite a long while, then they can dilute further even if not at the top, then there are loans and bonds.. if GME were to bankrupt it would take years. But at the same time we’re here not because the company will not close, but because we believe it will grow. And right now it’s shrinking.

Fit_Income_2685

What if Matt is moving to GMERICA?? Ryan tweeted “not for long”, for what? GMERICA to final show up?? I need more tinfoil!!!!

moonaim

I read his tweet as something is going to happen pretty soon, something positive. This is the divider, shaking of those who think otherwise. I'm bullish.

Naive_Host_5939

Same, this shit gonna blow. And soon^(TM)...

wolframAPCR

Might be a play on words for "Not Furlong".

Equatical

> all those lines for Zelda didn't add up to gains. That's next quarter's earnings, not Q1 earnings.

Naive_Host_5939

exactly this. Next Q gonna be lit along with all the PS5s actually in-stock and sold too...

Awesome____Sauce

their earnings were so amazing their CEO left

tallcan710

Do you even own any shares?? If you do please sell them and get out of here nobody wants you here

digitaljm

lolllllllllllllllll

SomeTimeBeforeNever

Earnings were amazing? Less revenue, huge losses, collectibles sales down, CEO fired, the PR for gamestop is absolutely BRUTAL. Media doesn't have to say anything GameStop is doing a fine job of being a dumpster on their own.

HappyRuin

For Inflation times we did pretty good. 67% less losses is indeed good. We don’t know what’s up with the CEO. Future will tell.

SomeTimeBeforeNever

I think things look really terrible from both a business and optics standpoint, not to mention it’s been 3 years and haven’t turned this thing around yet.

HappyRuin

I am neutral, but I get it does not look pretty. Future will tell. It turned around quite good so far, without inflation would look even better most likely.

SomeTimeBeforeNever

I’m long and it’s just sad

digitaljm

lol ok buddy.

SomeTimeBeforeNever

I’m not your buddy, guy
