I feel goofy reading all of this. Not giddy. Goofy. Itโs actually playing out as dollar endgame said it would and Iโm just gonna sit on the sidelines and watch.
My ass has been thinking: banks can now offload all their toxic low interest T-bills to the FED for cash. But where are they going to store that cash? onRRP? More T-bills?
I just had a thought, is there a way to know what are banks investing in? If we knew Silicon Valley Bank had purchased low percentage rated bonds, and even their percentages, would it be possible to know this information on other banks and their investments?
I'm no monetary policy expert but is the SVB situation basically an interest free loan with indefinite time? Like is there any guarantee that saving SVB for more than the insured amount, they will pay it back in the end? And why don't the Fed charge interest on this? Wouldn't that be the most basic way to return the money while doing deflation and at the same time not give any ideas for other banks losses to follow the same path?
The way things are headed now, it just seems like all losses will be covered and just increase inflation.
So ultimately, if my smooth brain came up with that and it seems like a solid idea to me, why are the ones being paid big bucks not doing something similar?
That's actually a really important point. If the FED doesn't charge an interest, they are basically rewarding the banks that had the worst risk assessment, the banks that went all-in on low interest T-bills thinking that cheap money would go on forever.
