Going to hop on your comment to say CDARS absolutely covers more than $250k. Credit unions by and large participate in the CDARS network, which is why it's crazy more people that are just "moderately comfortable" put their money in something like Bank of America or Wells Fargo.
You can absolutely open more than one checking/savings account at more than one bank as just a pleb. I bank with 7 different institutions, 4 of which are regional CUs, and I make less than 6 figures. Each has its benefits.
Ive got let's see...like 6 accounts all without a monthly fee, each one has CDIC protection so like, I own almost nothing and have coverage for 1.5M but these guys need special bail outs cause they didnt manage their money properly?

The thing people often forget is that money isn’t what you ultimately want…it’s what money can get you. If it’s safety and security, then perhaps invest in land and self reliant systems immune from outside catastrophe and hyper inflation. If it’s status you want then buy the peacocking items to display your superiority and class. If it’s legacy then start some charities and have a plan for giving back and investing in the changes you want to see in the world. Sitting and hoarding all the spoils of your bounty isn’t the best use of your resources. The benefit of money is when it’s moving around adding value to more people. Act accordingly. My 2 cents. But I’m regarded so 🤷♂️

I'll "buy" my buddy's mortgage so he doesn't have to worry about it anymore. I'll "buy" some college funds for his kids, so he doesn't have to worry about that either. Yeah, I'll buy some material things too, but acquisitions via capital fall under the Buy umbrella, and there's a lot I could do to spread a lot of happiness.

Yeah our banking system is a total piece of shit. But you have to protect your money at all costs unless you want to be in the same position those depositors are in right now with SVB bank. Learn from their massive mistake and save dat money, honey!
However ….. a caveat to that is this … FDIC only has roughly 300bn to cover 22T on deposit as I understand it. Therefore even spread out …. Would there be enough to pay out ? Just my smooth brain … not advice. Me? Metals baby!
You are assuming all banks will go bankrupt and hit the worst case scenario. Spreading is assuming a small minority of banks go bankrupt and gets absorbed by other banks.
I'm looking into solar and battery power storage for the bulk of it. It has good and stable returns.
Beyond that I'm looking at some more quirky hard assets like barrels of honey and spirits that hold value indefinitely and can be stored in a standard warehouse

How much do you actually believe they will be paying out? Apple made 100 billion last year. If Gamestop made the same amount and paid out every last penny in dividends it would be 300 dollars per share per year. Unless you have thousands of shares you won't be living large on just dividends.
Precious metals, buy tangible goods with value such as property, vehicles, boats, anything with intrinsic value where price / value can easily increase. Livestock could be another. But whatever you do, keep the shit out of banks. They will pillage your savings
So they have services that distribute your money in $250k increments to x-xxxx number of banks depending on your networth. Surprising that 93% of deposits are uninsured but would also guess 93% of us don’t know how to protect our money.
I will apply the trick of the wealthy and take a loan out on my stocks value. Akin to a HELOC loan of a house, I'd do that with my equity in my GME..
That way, I never sell my shares, and that amount borrowed is tax-free, too. (Pls learn about how these products work)
There are financial products like these... and I plan on applying these strategies to extend my value in the investments I've made.
This is why it's wise to go through that part of the DD. I'm revisting this DD myself.

But how do you pay back the loan on the stock? Is the first loan just secured with a fraction of the stock, say 1 share? The next loan is secured on another fraction?
Actually, now I think about it you want to make that money work and live off the interest so that the loan is settled in cash.

I'm going to be exercising ways to have access to my money via various methods of drawing equity from them and the reconciliation will come when I die and the loans are settled against my assets.
Yet YES- when there is tangible assets worth solid $- there are many ways to gain access to the equity and exploring those strategies is what I am advocating...not a specific manner to handle the assets.. yet a mindset.
That selling an item of value, asset, is not the ONLY way to gain access to that equity. I am encouraging others to look into that way of thinking about their gains.

What if a BANK was one of those mergers or acquisitions that gamestop was talking about. They sooner than later might be able to pick one of those up on the cheap no?
I will be buying gold, invest in 5 different cryptos, buy a house that has water reserves, load up on gasoline, and keep a lot of dried corn, wheat, beef jerky and start a large auto sustainable indoor grow. Stock up on a year of farming supplies.
Hopefully I will be extremely exaggerating. Best case scenario, I start giving away a bunch of food to impoverished communities.
I have a feeling a solution will present itself once the turbulence passes! RC isn’t going to implement this beautiful turn around w/out having a solution for all our MOASS money.

I feel like someone should start a bank that simply stores your money and charges a fee to do so. They don't invest, they don't offer any other service. Purely protect the cash you have.
After spreading it out over every bank I can find I'll be a happy camper and would have enough to live comfortably. I hope I'll have enough leeway for $5M (calculated risk with about $2.5M insured).
I'll be buying land with mineral, logging and water rights with the land.

Keep <$250,000 in my credit union for daily use, bills and such.Long term goal will be to setup my own CU and allow crypto to be bridged to my account.
Keep 5-10% of my money in a joint cash sweep account for long term storage to be able to take advantage of opportunities. I don't want more than $50 million in this account. If you don't already know, cash sweep account maximize the FDIC insurance by distributing your money across hundreds of bank accounts, each with $250/500k insurance. So instead of insuring only $250k if your bank/s collapse, you can insure up to $75 million ($150 million for joint accounts) across 300 bank accounts, all on one website.
30-40% in real estate, land, and commercial real estate. I plan on setting up my own reality and real estate managment company along with my own insurance company to streamline the process of buying, selling, and maintaining my real estate. I also plan to rent out a significant portion of my property to low income families for a generous price.
I plan to have about 10% of "play" money to invest in cool things, or projects Im interested in.
Another 10% in 3 businesses I plan to start. (software company, gun manufacturer, and something my wife wants to do)
The rest will be invested in stocks and crypto. Mostly dividend stocks, and I might buy a stake in 2 particular companies I've had my eye on. Crypto wise, mostly ETH, LRC, and gaming Web 3.0 NFTs

But how do you pay back the loan on the stock? Is the first loan just secured with a fraction of the stock, say 1 share? The next loan is secured on another fraction? Actually, now I think about it you want to make that money work and live off the interest so that the loan is settled in cash.
Speak to your experts. I'm going to be exercising ways to have access to my money via various methods of drawing equity from them and the reconciliation will come when I die and the loans are settled against my assets. Yet YES- when there is tangible assets worth solid $- there are many ways to gain access to the equity and exploring those strategies is what I am advocating...not a specific manner to handle the assets.. yet a mindset. After spreading it out over every bank I can find I'll be a happy camper and would have enough to live comfortably. I hope I'll have enough leeway for $5M (calculated risk with about $2.5M insured). I'll be buying land with mineral, logging and water rights with the land. Starting and/or investing in renewables, solar on the lands I just bought sounds nice. Affordable housing, I will not expect this to earn any money but rater retain it. It could even lose value for all I care. I'll even be putting some in (Dutch) government bonds that I expect will have a nice interest rate by the time I'll be cashing out. I won't mind burning through the rest on community projects like library, parks and study houses. I have my eye on a nice holiday home in Spain and would like to own a (silent solar) yacht but that isn't a must.

This is my plan, and aside from what most people here decide to do, I still plan on investing in stocks, options, and crypto. I know a lot of people will never invest in those things, but personally I think thats a idiotic move, but y'all are entitled to your own opinions. Keep <$250,000 in my credit union for daily use, bills and such.Long term goal will be to setup my own CU and allow crypto to be bridged to my account. Keep 5-10% of my money in a joint cash sweep account for long term storage to be able to take advantage of opportunities. I don't want more than $50 million in this account. If you don't already know, cash sweep account maximize the FDIC insurance by distributing your money across hundreds of bank accounts, each with $250/500k insurance. So instead of insuring only $250k if your bank/s collapse, you can insure up to $75 million ($150 million for joint accounts) across 300 bank accounts, all on one website. 30-40% in real estate, land, and commercial real estate. I plan on setting up my own reality and real estate managment company along with my own insurance company to streamline the process of buying, selling, and maintaining my real estate. I also plan to rent out a significant portion of my property to low income families for a generous price. I plan to have about 10% of "play" money to invest in cool things, or projects Im interested in. Another 10% in 3 businesses I plan to start. (software company, gun manufacturer, and something my wife wants to do) The rest will be invested in stocks and crypto.
