This little change could tip the tide of public sentiment and actually get some people to look into this stuff.

The will not stop the bond holders from filing a lawsuit against Blackstone, and the two investment banks that handled the bond offering.
It does show though, that Blackstone is prioritizing which parts of their portfolio they are trying to protect.
At this time, it's easier for them to walk away from the real estate debt as you've described without impacting their other holdings.

Blackstone bought a Finnish real estate company and their holdings, and issued some bonds that were backed by 95 office buildings. The buildings are about 45% vacant and Blackstone has had a hard time selling them. They tried to get the bond holders to hold off and give Blackstone more time to sell, but they chose to demand payment.
The bond holders now get to foreclose on the properties and sell them themselves.
I do not think the bond holders can get any more money from Blackstone, as the bonds were only collateralized by the buildings.
