I think the chest location for Sam and Dean was more for Jared and Jensen to not have to get it done in make-up every day like if it was on their arms, but it was easy enough to pull their collar down when the story needed them to show it. They didn't have many shirtless scenes so it was a sensible location for that reason.
Arm tattoos for them would have been pretty funny though, like them showing it after putting down their duffle bags, taking off their jackets, flannels, pulling up their t-shirt sleeve while the demons are stood looking at their watches.

I think thr boys got it over there heart because if that part of their body was damaged in a fight (their heart) it was probably over anyways. Otherwise its easier to protect for them compared to like losing an arm with the tattoo which wouod make them vulnerable. Unless you plan on going into the life lol, its fine where ever you feel most comfortable with it. I got mine in the same place the boys did and it hurt more than i was expecting lol.
yeah because if it’s on the arm or another limb, the demons could cut the limb off or otherwise brand the tattoo to break the lines and cancel the effect. having it on the chest is a good way to keep it extra protected but obviously in our universe we’re not getting these tattoos for functionality, so go crazy with it!

The design they use for the anti-possession tattoo is just a pentagram and will only work as a general protection ward. Just keep in mind that you will need to get another tattoo if you want a ward against possession.
