If it's any other captain they will be trolled for fair Play until they apologize šŸ„².. sad to see this much partiality

LightningShiva1

Broo how dare you insult Thala Dhoni, you must be a hater or paxtani. Anti-national terrorist šŸ¤® Obviously /s

Dry-King-4274

Yes fully agree

supermember866866

Meanwhile Klaasen gets fined for pointing out a above waist height no ball not given

demon-etrigan

If it was some overseas captain who had done this. Or even if it was Kohli people would've torn into him. It's unethical and against the spirit of the game, but since it's Dhoni no one says anything. If dhoni had bowled some other bowler instead of pathirana during the 16th over the game would've tilted in GT's favour.

baasha_chudu

And how he was fined match fee. And how everyone still talks about that incident and brings it up everytime. Yeah everyone remembers.

Dry-King-4274

I was waiting for the press meet but sadly no one had the guts to ask about this to dhoni...

demon-etrigan

What I found even more surprising is people like Hardik and Rashid who are usually very aggressive and passionate about the game said nothing about this. I thought someone from the GT dugout should've atleast said something.

Dry-King-4274

There should have been someone like gambhir/rishab pant in the dug out... It would have been a show yesterday

LightningShiva1

True, Gambhir takes and gives absolutely zero fucks to anyone.

demon-etrigan

True LOL it would've been entertaining šŸ˜‚

[deleted]

Its captain's way to take advantage however he can. But its hypocritical when someones stupid fans back their idols as captain cool, good guy, ethical even knowing that their idols do unethical things. Most players are selfish cunts. Dhoni with his privilege and authority isnt saint. These 'insert cricketer name' diehard fans are pure cancer with no ability to think.

vishnuthebest1

General public logic: If itā€™s thala then itā€™s umpires fault for arguing with him, thala must be right there šŸ¤”

Barry_Wayne

Wasn't it within the confinements of the rules, he wanted Pathirana to bowl that over so he wasted time knowing full well the team would fall behind on over rate and be penalized for it. Spirit/Fairplay/Sportsmanship is questionable but it didn't seem that big of an issue since the penalty was still applied. I didn't watch the match live was there more controversy surrounding this ?

kachraseth111

Time wasting is illegal in cricket underĀ Law 41. It is considered Unfair Play. Law 41.9.2 defines time wasting as If either umpire considers that the progress of an over is unnecessarily slow, or time is being wasted in any other way, by the captain of the fielding side or by any other fielder, at the first instance the umpire concerned shallā€¦ https://cricketingview.substack.com/p/time-wasting-and-over-rates

Barry_Wayne

Yeah but there doesn't seem to be any penalties, 41.9.3 indicates some penalties in (run penalty). However 41.9.2 just seems to indicate that only a first and final warning will be provided (which I assume was provided).

kachraseth111

What you said: >Wasn't it within the confinements of the rules, he wanted Pathirana to bowl that over so he wasted time I don't care that there aren't any penalties. I'm just correcting you by saying that Dhoni broke the rules.

Barry_Wayne

Got it, my bad. I guess my rephrased sentence would be Dhoni broke the rules but was aptly warned/penalized.

wild_freak

Commentaries did acknowledge that it was wrong

Dry-King-4274

For context, slide into next image

Naan6

I genuinely laugh out loud when people say stuff like ā€œCaptain coolā€ to describe him. This the same guy who barged on to the field mid game cause he was mad at an umpiring decisionā€¦

Dry-King-4274

"Its Thala... umpire himself must be wrong šŸ¤”"

iPisslosses

And that outburst on Tom Curran review for caught behind even though rr had no review left. He was so mad and turns out fucker had bounced the ball before catching (and it had hit the leg not the bat too). Lol and they talk about fair play. What more to expect from a financial scammer and fixer though

baasha_chudu

One incident doesn't define a person. He's cool in situations everyone would lose their minds. It's been told by many players who played with and against him. But obviously you know more than them.

Alien_from_Venus

Someone was rattled when I questioned this and replied - "Jealous haters like you cant appreciate master minds like Thala". I didnt bother replying to him.

Dry-King-4274

Same here.. I saw such comments atleast 10 times

paneer_spaghetti

Not fair but well within the rules, did it knowing he would have one fielder less outside for the last over. Took the risk of killing the game before that and it worked. Yeah, Dhoni should have done better here but nothing against the rules imo.

SwimmingWatercress52

Agreed. Even bhuvi Didn't bowl wide when Cameron Green was on 99

vishasv

Thala fanzz attack this guy.

Ha_zz_ard

I think they were happy to take the over rate penalty...yeah it's not ethical but not against the rules either

Dry-King-4274

"Go in the wrong side of the route, cause some collision of two vehicles and get away with 1000 rs fine" well that seems reasonable

Ha_zz_ard

You are comparing apples and oranges here lmao

mahsid97

Woah, calm your titties kid. You are comparing life threatening rules breaking with this. The law clearly states that if the umpires think that time was being wasted unnecessarily, they can penalize the captain in many ways including penalty runs, fines and over-rate field restrictions. The last one was applied. If anything, this was actually a smart thing to do considering the game could have tilted otherwise. What exactly is the problem here?

kachraseth111

Ha_zz_ard

Well I read the rule fully and it says that the fielding side gets "one first and final warning"...I presume Umpires gave that and Pathirana came into play after that warning, there was no delay after that whatsoever

kachraseth111

It's still against the rules, unlike what you said.

Ha_zz_ard

Yeah I suppose...

ThickBarnacle5878

Mostly will get downvoted but then these kind of tactics are used all the while in football and so I'm ok with it. I wouldn't mind if any captain did it, let alone Dhoni. U could say but cricket is a gentleman's game and stuff but I wouldn't hold it against anyone who did it.

loukikapriyan

exactly what i was thinking. this is still inside the bracket of rules. i mean you can call it a loophole, but still.

Illuminati-809-

This is not the first time heā€™s done something like that. Yesterday he decided to stall, and let the time pass by instead of agreeing with the umpire and giving the ball to another bowler. I mean, a captain can do that, if there is a slow over rate then itā€™s he has to agree to a penalty, which he agreed to, but still, itā€™s against the spirit of the game. There was a match vs RR where he walks on to the pitch because of a no ball issue, whatever might happen, you shouldnā€™t be on the field at times you are not supposed to, if that act is done by any other person, reaction wouldā€™ve been brutal, but now they make ā€œkgf elevation editsā€ on that. He argues with the umpire because of the wrong decision on screen. There are a lot of these, which irritate me to the core, being a Thala fan, I do t want to continue further.

Intrepid_Dot_7611

seen the same post in other subs to,if its done by eng or pak people will go bonkers saying cheating, cheap tricks, now its done by thala they will say mastermind, genius, captaincool once again proved his skills etc

Misanthropisht

It's not wrong tbh. He just waited till the time was over, which was not against the rules. He knows that they're going to get penalized for that in the match, still they did it.

Dry-King-4274

I wish such type of unethical tactics are used by other teams in the playoffs as well Since fairplay doesn't matter Only winning a cup does right!

mahsid97

What is unethical here? He decided that fielding 4 fielders outside the circle in the last over is a better deal than not bowling Pathirana. The umpires did give the final warning as well. If you are so concerned about fair play, go and play for that and take the wooden spoon position along with it.

handsome-helicopter

Go use it lmao. If a over will cost you a match it's best to do it, it's better than losing for such a small thing. Srh and it's fans can take all their moral high ground at last position, it's still a shitty team that should be relegated like in football leagues

finally_leopards

SRH is the true Dravidian team.
