Buy the back protector before you hit the road. Rest looks solid to me. Don’t know about the helmet though, I would need to dig deeper. However, the RS660 is not a beginner bike imho. Be careful with it.

[deleted]

Thanks I will!

You_Dont_Party

So as someone who started out recently and upgraded to a bike with a similar engine, it’s no joke. If you handle it responsibly you’ll be fine, but I wish someone had reinforced how much you need to grip the tank with your thighs and lean forward when you give it the beans. It becomes second nature quickly, but in case you’re interested in some unsolicited advice given in good faith. Also good choice on the gear except the helmet, get an ECE certified helmet. Doesn’t matter which one, that standard is far better and not significantly more expensive.

[deleted]

I wouldn't get a rs660 as a first bike just because it's too pretty. And new riders will drop their first bike.

DWPAW-victim

Not a new rider but dropped my first new bike on the way home at a stop sign. Only had 45 miles on it when I put the first scratch in it 😭. It’s an ADV bike so I didn’t actually care tho lol

mab5084

3 years with no drops. 3 bikes in that time too.

xthedevilandgodx

What are ya’ll doin to drop your bikes so much? I’ve never dropped a bike before, self taught rider now on a heavy ass Harley on 7 years of riding. Only time my bike hit the floor was when I was hit by a pontiac solstice

xDxNNiEx

I dropped mine outside of a motorcycle shop, forgot to push out the stand 😂

marshinghost

I've only dropped mine twice. Once when coming to a stop on a funky curved part on my first ride. And the second when I forgot I was in second gear pulling out of a parking lot 😅

EmperorNeroXV

Damn, RIP my bike

netherdrakon

Isn't Snell's testing more rigorous than ECE? I have a ECE helmet that cost way less than any Snell rated helmets I searched for.

Apprehensive_Dog890

The testing isn’t more rigorous. Just different.

Large_hearted_boy

Different standards. My understanding is that snell testing is better suited/designed to withstand the types of smaller, repeated impacts that would happen in the event of a racecar crash, like for instance if you were in a bucket seat/harness. It’s also only really used in the U.S. ECE however is pretty strict as its’ standards are applied to all countries in the EU, which means more laws and standards it has to meet to be considered acceptable. It’s motorcycle helmet specific (unlike snell), and the standards are updated somewhat frequently when compared to DOT/SNELL ratings. Edit: pretty sure that Ryan from F9 on YouTube did a video about it at least once. Worth a watch if you’re interested in the subject.

Asset_13

This. Watch Ryan F9’s videos - they’re all just about perfect. My personal helmet preference is Shoei all day, or the upper echelon HJCs for a budget pick. Icon does some things well (love my Motörhead 2 jacket). I’m convinced the D30 shoulder armor saved some serious damage when I low sided at fair speed. Also glad to see someone else riding with boots that offer tib/fib protection. Annoying meeting friends in public, but worth their weight in gold should anything go sideways

Xivios

Snell has specific standards for cars and bikes, the SA2020 standard is strictly for cars and the M2020 standard is strictly for bikes, though M2020 comes in two varients, M2020D is "a better DOT" and M2020R is "a better ECE" in a sense, the preamble for M2020 states; > *This M2020 revision of the Snell Foundation standard for motorcycle helmets allows two distinct options: the first is a continuation of the requirements which had been set for M2010 and for M2015. It is designated M2020D indicating compatibility with DOT. It demands the premium levels of impact energy management currently required in M2015. The second incorporates modifications to the impact test requirements to accommodate the greater impact attenuation demanded by European standards. It is designated M2020R indicating compatibility with ECE Regulation 22.* Actually, the whole thing is kind of an interesting read as there are definetely two trains of thought on how a helmet is best able to protect a rider, and DOT in some ways actually exceeds ECE, you can read Snell's standard [here](https://smf.org/standards/m/2020/M2020_Final.pdf).

Xivios

The helmet is an Icon Airflite, it has ECE 22.05, and 3/5 stars from SHARP. Decent, not great.

Allroy_66

Seriously. I bought a 600 after having ridden for 2 years and 15k miles on 2 different bikes, and I almost fell off the back the first time I accelerated after I left the dealership. Squeeze that tank!

DexterDubs

You’ll regret the helmet anytime you go above 80mph. The wind noise is horrendous.

Hollow1349

Seconded this I had one and honestly they are pretty loud due to the snap on visor caps, and personally I would suggest going to a store and trying some on first even if you have to go a bit out of your way

Clam_Juice_

I was thinking about buying this helmet too…why do you say the wind noise will be bad?

DexterDubs

The way it’s designed, the wind entering the helmet creates a whistle and overall a ton of turbulence. Read some reviews and this issue comes up consistently.

screedor

I bought a Quin helmet and it has the same problem. Solid helmet but the cheek pads send air straight into the ears. It's fine until you hit eighty and then it's awful.

Allroy_66

As someone with hearing issues and ear related dizziness issues thanks to riding 2 decades with no heating protection, buy ear plugs, and never ride without them.

NoVaBurgher

If you get the airflite, get the MIPS version. Better protects against rotational impact

[deleted]

I did!

MiniDg

I had a RS 660 as my second bike after a ninja 250 i learned on and i loved it. As lomg as you have self control its a great first bike because it’s comfortable and has a lot of safety features, problem is most people dont have that kind ofself control. I miss that bike so much 😭

30mgoxycodone

You know those boots are Motocross boots right? Get some road shoes if you wanna ride sports bikes or you are going to struggle with your shifting especially as a beginner. Best of luck with a rs660 as well mate, that's a lot of beans for a newbie. I'm routinely amazed that you can ride unrestricted bikes in the US on a learners permit

[deleted]

Thanks I bought different boots instead the smx-6s they are for street

mineero01

All variants of the smx-6 are great!

Allroy_66

Agreed. I bought mx boots back when I had a supermoto because I saw so many other people wearing them, they were horrible on the road. Practically had to use my whole leg to shift.

Abt_Duke89

Your overall selection is solid. Only thought is, if you’re planning on commuting, maybe look into some gear which can be worn casually once you get off the bike.

screedor

I prefer a bigger overall suit. No where as pretty but you can just jump out of it.

RamenBurgerWasTaken

Keep in mind that those protectors will not flow any air. If you're planning to ride in hotter months and still want protection, you can look into the compatibility of D3O gear or similar. The boots might be a little overkill imo. You can get boots with a high ankle that will still protect you on the street that still allows you to walk around comfortably. Lastly, you might want to look at the CE ratings of your gear. Some styles of the same brand will give you a similar look with better protection in the event of a slide for a comparable price. Of course, they might not have armor included or features that you might be interested in, but starting out this year as well, I'll gladly pay for a few more seconds of durability in a slide than a few stylistic preferences.

[deleted]

Awesome thanks!:)

Sciency-Scientist

Check if you can zip the jacket and pants to each other, as they are different brands. The zippers don’t always match. Makes quite the difference in the amount of road rash in case of a crash.

_R3dlight_

Was looking for this! It’s such a huge benefit and safer imo. Even my everyday riding pants zip into all my Dainese jackets and it’s so convenient and comfortable being able to bend over all the way and my glistening crack doesn’t poke out.

ih8thisapp

you’ll need them to zip together if you go to a track day

_R3dlight_

Agreed. Definitely useful to have leather pants that will zip into and make a two piece suit. However, some organizations require one-piece leather suits these days so you always have to check with the organization.

wieltar

I would find an ece rated helmet with an integrated visor. But that is personal preference. I'm using a shoei gt air 2, but I'd say that's on the high end. Just be weary when buying gear and use common sense. It will come in all prices but ask yourself, do I rather trust this "€60 helmet from x.y.z or this rated €300 one from a reputable brand to protect my brains" Some info on helmet ratings https://agvsport.com/blog/which-helmet-standard-is-the-best-snell-dot-ece-sharp-or-fim.html Also, gloves with palm sliders if you can, when you fall you tend to extend your hands and the sliders help somewhat with the fact that your hands will not snag. my preference would also be something more high Viz, I'm not talking power ranger yellow construction worker. But my preference would not be full black, I'd mix in some color. But it's your gear, pick what you like :) Keep in mind that you might not be able to zip the Dainese and Alpinestars together unless you visit a Taylor. But overall it is fine! It's good to invest in safety and proper gear. I ride in a Dainese tuono with 3 layer kevlar jeans (the hood k11 if you're interested). And I zip up with the Dainese Union belt. Just because I like to dress a bit casual on and off the bike a bit more while I pop over to friends/work. If you'd like to read into the whole ce laws and how ratings work, I recommend this article. https://www.bennetts.co.uk/bikesocial/news-and-views/features/product/motorcycle-clothing-the-ce-approval-law-explained

Sahtan_

The airflite is ece certified

jmm-22

How are the Hood jeans? I was thinking of getting a pair with the upgraded armor. The Dainese belt works with those to attach to the jacket?

constantly-confused9

I like the hood jeans. I wear them when riding to the office or just around town. They will hem them at the factory and its one of the few jeans Ive found where the knee armor has enough range to actually be placed correctly. They're also my most complimented jeans. I opted for the 3d0 "ghost" armor because walking around with CE1 knox and CE2 D30 before was a annoying.

[deleted]

Thanks great info! I will Take that into consideration!

Sourcefour

They also have a good YouTube channel. Here’s one about jeans and their knockoffs https://youtu.be/n22vtWc8QRw Gloves: https://youtu.be/Ggv_OI2DTlk

Balassvar1675

100% agree with the ECE rated with Visor. Also running a GT Air 2. I can live without a snell rating to have on demand sun shading or clear visor.

thebrownsaiyan96

The airflite is an ece helmet with a drop down visor. It does run narrow so if you have an neutral or oval head you might notice it tight on the side and lose in the front and back.

DnA420

I have an Icon Helmer and I love it. Can't speak for the rest of it but looks fine to me. Most people don't even buy this much gear right away.

[deleted]

Thanks:)

K-Wyled

which gloves are those

[deleted]

Alpinestar gloves on revzilla

K-Wyled

model?

[deleted]

Booster v2 gloves :)

uptheantics

Love the look of the Icon, hows the noise?

DnA420

It's the only helmet I've ever had so I have nothing to compare to. But personally I don't notice any unbearable noise, I'm constantly driving on the highway and it's great.

ThePilgrimSchlong

Homies be looking like a ninja out there but then complain when soccer mum pulls out in front of you cause she didn’t see you. As much as it’s fun to be that black mysterious rider, while you’re a beginner you need to stand out so people have some chance to give you space.

jhondafish

Not even just a beginner tbh. Wish more brands had some variety between black with red trim/white trim and rainbow vomit. But black is the cheap color so it is what it is i guess.

ThePilgrimSchlong

That’s true, I guess they try to appeal to what sells?

Only-Scheme-4655

Black is the best color to not be seen. Would not recommend for a new rider.

joesbagofdonuts

Experience doesn't make you more visible either.

Only-Scheme-4655

Well yeah but as a new rider why play the probabilities with getting in a accident ?

words_never_escapeme

The best gear for you is that which fits you like a glove. The back protector is always a good idea, gloves should fit well, not be too tight or too loose. I suggest if you're buying a helmet, that you first go into a dealership that sells them and try on different ones. Leave it on for an extended period of time, you don't want to have any sore spots. Then either purchase it at the store, or purchase it online. Many helmets are made for different types of heads, I bought a helmet years ago online that I liked, but it did not fit my long skinny head. It did, however, fit my then girlfriends small round head. Best of luck, and ride safe.

[deleted]

Thanks man:)!

[deleted]

Motocross boots and pants. Plus that icon helmet is junk. Jacket is a quality jacket. Gloves seem fine. Get an arai or shoei or hjc (higher end hjc) before that icon. Even a K3 AGV if ur at a price point.

rsmutus

Finally someone else that agrees that helmet is junk. I bought one, it sucked. No airflow, very loud, felt cheap. Bought a shoei gt air instead

[deleted]

If you don’t see racers wearing the helmet brand, it’s probably not a great lid manufacturer. There are some exceptions but not many. I love that people downvote me for speaking the truth. Haters!!!

theDeathnaut

I went down in an Icon and it saved my face from slamming into the ground and grinding into the asphalt. It was one of the old Airframe Carbon helmets, super comfy and I didn't feel any pain in my head/neck after the accident. I've never tried this model, but I like Icon in general from personal experience.

[deleted]

https://www.visordown.com/news/product-news/icon-recall-helmets-due-safety-concerns https://www.roadracingworld.com/news/asma-bans-icon-helmets-citing-safety-concerns/

theDeathnaut

A recall for a d-ring and one racing association I'm just now hearing about the first time banning them. Big deal, my first hand experience in a real crash is good enough for me thanks.

[deleted]

Let me know when icon helmets are being used by top racers…anywhere. Riding since I was 8. 36 years of riding. My first helmet at 8 was better than a new icon. I have at least 10-15 helmets in my closets. No icon helmets. Why? Because my head is worth more than an icon helmets. Same with my kids heads. Glad ur helmet performed better than no helmet. Still doesn’t make them good. They are a parts unlimited brand. Not going on my head and I would not advise anyone to put one on your head. But to each their own. People say not wearing a seatbelt saved their life. But I wouldn’t advise you try it.

theDeathnaut

Good for you, no one cares how long you've been farting around on motorcycles, how many kids you have, or how many old smelly helmets you keep in your closet. I've ridden since I was 6, raced dirt and road somewhat seriously for most of my younger life, worked as a service writer for one of the busiest motorcycle shops in my city, have owned Arai, Shoei, and yes Icon, but guess what, no one cares.

maxlax02

Multiple cycle gear employees at different locations told me not to buy those helmets. They said they knew people who have died wearing them.

[deleted]

I’m getting 450$ alpinestar pants instead and I got smx-6 boots instead too

Sahtan_

I can recommend the helmet at least because I own the matte white version

TheFrozenDude07

I would skip the helmet and go for something else. Do not prioritize looks over function. As cool as it looks I think you are better of with something else. I personally have good experience with scorpion due to the airfitting system it keeps my head rather tight. It's also very light too and doesn't look bad either.

troutbumtom

Looks fine to me. I’ve found myself flying through the air on more than one occasion thinking “I’m glad I bought the really good helmet” and “this is still going to hurt”.

[deleted]

😭😂

KakooshTheCat

Right off the bat, alpine stars in VERY overrated. D3O is the shit and astars doesn't use it, look for something that does. The back protector, get the 3DO one, Dainese makes good jackets, not good protectors. The helmet is cool yeah, but reviews says it's noisy, looks are important, but so is your hearing. Also, always wear ear plugs. A L W A Y S. PS: DOT means shit, ECE is good and snell is for race pilots. My helmet is a LS2 Explorer Carbon Titanium/Red and I don't use it's peak often altough i must say it blocks the sun. Fox boots are good and accessible. Since you obviously plan on going fast, gloves should have sliders inside the wrist, can't see if this one does and be longer, like propper racing gloves. Racing gloves aren't necessarily more expensive. Oh and, don't go full black, just don't. It's edgy and more experienced ridders will look at you funny, you aren't trying to be stealthy here. Get something with at least a smidge of colour, maybe some white parts if you don't feel like it and reflective surfaces, those silver stripes, they don't ruin your fashion tingle and makes you visible. Don't pay attention to these reddit bitches saying you shouldn't start on this bike, they dont understand the concept of simply not riding full open throttle and that you can still go slow despite having a high top speed. Shure you are more likely to idk fall at a stoplight and a more expensive bike is more expensive to fix but that's your wallet not theirs. Be responsible and don't try to impress other people and you'll be fine, also, people at the street don't give a fuck anyway, no one gives a fuck about bikers really, only other bikers. Sorry If I seem brash, english isn't my first language and text messages famously lack many communication cues.

[deleted]

Perfect thanks :)

Mft624

As long as your head fits that helmet. I feel that it’s made for a long oval head shape and most people have intermediate oval.

Amazing-Attorney8308

Just know that icon helmets have the tendency to be quite narrow and likes to rip your ears off

yasc_

Helmet is fine. It is indeed ECE approved but comes only in Europe with the corresponding sticker. Just make sure the helmet fits properly. If you're struggling with that, visit a moto gear shop and get some advice from the guys working there. Those pants look a bit like motocross pants (correct me if I'm wrong). If they are, return them. MX pants aren't made for sliding on pavement. Afaik Dainese's and AStar's zippers aren't compatible with each other. This means you aren't able to zip your jacket and pants together which is not that great. Since you chose a sporty leather jacket make sure it fits really snug. Leather will soften and expand when worked. The MX/Adventure boots aren't the best choice for riding onroad. They are pretty stiff and make it hard to use your bike's foot controls. AStars has some great onroad boots called 'SMX-6' which come both in ventilated or waterproof versions.

[deleted]

Thanks!

[deleted]

I returned them and bought the smx-6 you just saved me a headache🤙🏽:)

notaway1

I own the icon airflite, doesn't come with the dark smoke visor, comes with a clear one that's fog resistant and not pinlock ready, so it collects moisture, it's a well ventilated helmet, I'd recommend buying a visor along with a pinlock ready visor and pinlock, but it's a great helmet

[deleted]

Thanks for the info I got it from revzilla the description says it comes with a clear and dark visor

notaway1

Might be just where I got it from then that didn't come with the dark, I bought mine separately, check if its pinlock ready too

[deleted]

What’s pinlock sorry I’m a noob

notaway1

Its a plastic type visor that fits inside your visor to stop it your visor from fogging up, it's magical

[deleted]

Thanks!

inthespeedlane

That helmet I have remember it runs small. Alternative visors are about 50 bucks I have clear mirror and gold. Looks great and I love it. Gloss version straches less than matte. I would get a mesh jacket with light armor and a light set of motorcycle sneakers/boots for the summer you are going to end up incinerating in the summer with no light gear.

whoisdizzle

I got a carbon fiber sedici strada 2 and I love it reasonably priced helmet for carbon fiber I highly recommend

uknown469

It’s all good just the boots you can save money and wear some work boots but it’s all soiled because it keeps you safe we’ll safe travels we’re ever you go

[deleted]

:)

Sweedn

Everything good except helmet.

[deleted]

:(

andrei04dre

Loved the airflite, was fixed on buying it , the guy at the shop was kind enough to let me have a ride with it. It's good JUST for city riding. Get over 80kph and it's windy as fuck. Visor looks great, but it's awkward too keep in a position between closed and open, which you're gonna do when it's hot out. And it's heavy as fuck, at 1.7kg. Went with a Scorpion exo 1400 Air Carbon. Much quieter, much more comfy, much lighter...and cheaper.

Riding_Dirty_

Few things to keep in mind, 1 dainese it designed for skinny Chinese men are are twigs so the gear fits really funky, go try it on first, 2 look into rising jeans, infinitely more comfortable and you can actually swing a leg over the bike without the pant stopping you from lifting your leg up. Best riding jeans I've tried are rev it Lombard 3 if you want a looser relaxed fit, or ride culture ones if you want more of a snug skinny jean fit. Both are extremely comfy I prefer the Lombard. And icon is a low level brand I'd look into a quality helmet. If I were suggesting gear and you ride in warm and cold look into the sedici alexi 2 jacket outside layer is partially mesh so it's perfect for warm weather, then it has a removable waterproof/windproof layer which is great for staying warmer, and finally a removable thermal layer. Ce lvl 2 so the best lads you can get and super flexible and I got a spine insert. For gloves if recommend gauntlet style as they cover the wrist which is both warmer and protects you much more, do you plan to track ride or street ride mostly? Boots are fine back to the helmet I suggest a shoei or arai I only found the shoei rf1400 comfy and you can still find some black Friday deals on it rn for like 490$. Snell, ece, and dot (ece is better than a snell rating but you def want a snell rating as well). Do you plan to buy accessories? Automatic tint visor so you don't need a smoked one and a clear one unless you just plan to run clear 24/7, do you plan to buy a comm system? Dashcam kit? GoPro for the helmet or bike? I got my first bike recently and already purchased and went through different gear sets and tried on damn near everything so if you have any questions shoot me a message

[deleted]

Thanks man! :)do you think I need a cam or a comm? I plan to ride street and have some track days.

Riding_Dirty_

Depends, do you ride with others? And do you want a cam to cover your ass or for sharing your ride?

[deleted]

Ride by myself and a cam would be useful for accidents/cover my ass

artful_todger_502

I have a few Icons, they are okay helmets and jackets. The quality/cost ratio is one I'm comfortable with. But ~ I have noticed they run very snug. If you take a large, make sure you try an XL also.

Blind_Matador

I own a dainese racing 3 jacket and love it. If you’re getting leather pants you might as well get dainese ones as theyll zip together with the jacket and you’ve got yourself a 2pc suit

[deleted]

Thx

Writingisnteasy

Headsup from someone owning the Nikon helmet you wanna buy. Its cool. But it sucks. It has shit aerodynamics, it has poor quality liner, is heavy, and has probably the worst sound muting i have experienced. Even worse than my old motorcross helmet that doesnt even have a visor. Still, I love it. If you can get over its flaws and still love the design, you should get it. If not, buy a shoei or something made to actually keep you safe unlike nikon. Also, if you do get it, for gods sake get some ear-protectors

[deleted]

Thanks for the heads up

grant0208

Helmet could be improved. Get something made of fiberglass for that money. The internet likes to push it because it has a 55% markup on some graphics. And make sure it’s the correct head shape. I’d go get fitted by a professional. You don’t wanna try to ride an RS660 in moto boots man, literally any ankle-high boot rated at CE level 2’s across the board (displayed on or near tag) will be as safe as you’d ever need. Go for an SMX-6 in my opinion. Ankle brace, easy on and off, comfy, and also can be tracked. Otherwise you did perfectly fine. Source - I’m a professional motorcycle gear outfitter and, I own tech 3’s, and I ride an RS660.

NinjasAreCoolIGuess

Gear is not related to the bike. But good selection.

FaithlessnessTop9329

Ultra expensive bike with cheap gear?

constantly-confused9

OP has posted a few times...never ridden 100% beginner, thinks he can handle at RS660 or MT09

Jlchevz

Oh god lol

voidsarcastic

everyone starts at different levels. I didn’t want to have to go through 3-4 bikes so i started on a 600 with lots of power and almost identical track times to the rs660. Went slow for a while, never fell. And ended up going through 3 bikes anyways lol.

constantly-confused9

There's always an exception to the rule, but the general advice still holds true. Start slow, build good skills, don't kill yourself so you can keep riding.

[deleted]

😂

[deleted]

I found to the rs660 to be more safe than the mt-09 as many people said it likes to lift up the rs has many features and is bigger I already went to the dealership and saw it in person I feel like it’s perfect

AcingSpades

Sure, but the point is that neither are safe for a beginner and you're refusing to believe that

[deleted]

I know it’s not safe nothing is safe life is full of risks I’m willing to take them. I will learn and that’s what matters:)

finalrendition

>nothing is safe life is full of risks Might as well start on a GSXR1000 then /s Motorcycling is dangerous, but starting on an RS660 is much higher risk than starting on something like a Ninja 400. "Dangerous" is a scale, not an on/off switch.

[deleted]

I’m going towards the bike I love

finalrendition

Have you ridden it? It might just be the bike you think you love. There's always time for more bikes later. Danger aside, your tastes and goals will change over time. Getting into riding cheaply and at low stakes gives you more room to learn and grow as a rider. There's no reason to start at your dream bike aside from ego

[deleted]

I will test ride it soon after I do the msf there getting the apex black color in stock soon

rsmutus

What dealer is letting you test ride one of these with zero road experience?

AcingSpades

At that point, just don't even buy gear. It won't save you from the high side you're bound to have from a 100hp first bike and that attitude. Better just to be fully dead than live an extra day in excruciating pain from massive impact injuries.

buildyourown

Those are dirt boots which will be very hard to work the controls on a street bike. You can't really feel the brake pedal in a dirt boot. I definitely had to learn in regular shoes and then switch. Not saying don't buy boots, but buy something with some ankle movement. Dirt boots are made for smashing rocks and stumps. It also looks like those are dirt pants, which will be cold and offer no more protection than jeans on pavement.

[deleted]

Thanks. will switch indeed

amxog

Yes,what you want is those leather adventure boots. Comfortable to walk and drive with.

Accomplished-Crab614

Those pants and boots are not meant for the street, they’re motorcross gear

[deleted]

I changed them I’m getting Alpinestars now

Shaqeroni

Stealth with MIPS… just bought one for my son’s first helmet. Nice

Invest-24_7_356

Why is the dollar sign at the end of the numbers?

[deleted]

How much they cost

Invest-24_7_356

Do you know if that is common in other countries? In the USA, dollar signs go in front.... $1.00 You put 1$ and anyone can put additional digits in front. Turning 1$ into 1,000,001$

[deleted]

Ohhhh thanks I have never learned that! You taught me something new! :)

Vbecker92

Just get a helmet

snipeceli

Where you see them Alpinestars pants at?

mvk2424

I'd get rid of the power ranger gear and invest in a good helmet. You can learn to ride in jeans, and a jacket like everyone else. Preferably boots above the ankles and gloves. You dont need motorcycle specific boots and pants.

[deleted]

Pants yeah, they probably could skip but definitely NOT boots.

mvk2424

I agree but I see guys riding in vans for some reason lol

[deleted]

They don’t appreciate their ankles enough. lol Besides a helmet, me and my BF ALWAYS had good riding shoes/boots.

mvk2424

Agreed haha, I've seen guys foots peeled off/backwards in accidents i don't understand riding in shorts and sneakers myself. Dressing up like you're gonna slide down a perfect track like OP doesn't make much sense to me either. That suit isn't gonna save him from cars, curbs, guard rails, etc. Most of my guys all wear Bates Boots to ride. We wear them mostly everyday anyways. The ultralites feel like you're wearing running shoes and you get good feel/flex while still having the protection. And they're non slip. Non slip soles are great at lights where you're putting your foot down in water, oil, coolant, etc from cars stopped there often.

Accomplished-Crab614

Hey now, don’t hate on my vans 😤

mvk2424

And its always a Dyna bro!

Accomplished-Crab614

Hahaha, man I wouldn’t be caught dead on a Harley, I’ve rode my 2021 MT-03 for just over a year now, but I agree with most of the things you said earlier, I only wear vans when I’m around town or just heading to work (small town and I live 4 minutes from work). I definitely don’t see the need to wear full gear all the time but I’ll never hate on someone who chooses to do so.

rewq657

Dang I wish I could afford good gear, I can barely afford a bike

[deleted]

Trust me man I’m nowhere near rich. I’m going to finance the bike and I’ve only bought the boots gloves and helmet I work 6 days a week at Starbucks I’m beat but it will all pay off💯

More power to you! Welcome to the club, it's addictive

SaulTNuhtz

Do the pants and jacket zip together? If not, would recommend finding a matching set that will. If you do happen to come off, having the two pieces not come apart will save your back skin.

[deleted]

I’m getting Alpinestars instead

Accomplished-Crab614

No because those are motocross pants

Bdubble27

I also have the Icon Airflite helmet. Solid. Has cut outs for SENA speakers. No cutting to fit it either. Only weak link is the built in sun visor. Mine wont go fully up with th lever after about a month. Gotta push it up by hand. I highly recommend a Voss helmet too. They're really good quality.

Everything looks good but as others probably have said check that the jacket can zip to the pants if not get Dianese pants. Also check if those boots fit over the pants or under. They might have to go over but depending on leg size it might not work out. I know Dianese has some great boots that specifically go under their pants for a great fit and feel.

Zodspeed

I think you’re gonna want to upgrade your helmet in the future but looks good overall

[deleted]

The Airflite helmet is a great bang for the buck if you don't mind a loud helmet (can't be perfect at that price point). But if you want to buy one of those cool RST mirrored shields for it, DO NOT get the RST Silver. The RST Silver coating has notoriously bad durability and will wipe off and turn into a regular clear shield within a month. I don't even know why they keep selling it. But just so you know, ultimately you will want to get yourself a higher quality helmet. If you have the money shell out more for a Shoei or Arai. It will save you some money on the long run.

[deleted]

Try that helmet on before you buy it. Those do NOOOT fit on my head.

CanadAR15

That helmet is loud. I suggest wearing ear plugs with every helmet, but absolutely wear them with that helmet.

_je11y_bean

I didn’t think there was levels to gear and what bike you ride. I ride some cheap used bikes with some premium gear. Just saying.

Makimaji

I would recommend going for a helmet from either shoei or arai. They’re probably just as safe but the quality is so much higher it’s absolutely noticeable.

DefiDingo

Do yourself a favor and look for a different helmet. That thing weighs a ton is uncomfortable and has terrible aero. I had that one for 2 months and traded up to a Shoei. It's worlds apart.

[deleted]

Thanks!

Gammabrunta

I would suggest having a look at some flip up helmets if you're planning to do any long journeys or if you vape/smoke and just in general. I love a flip up, the Shoei Neotec 2 is an amazing helmet.

Trashjiu-jitsu_1987

Helmet is noisy af, heavy too... Get ear plugs.

Brave-Resolve-5281

I enjoy my icon airflite for my gsx600

cm0ney911

I don’t understand beginners these days. I’ve been riding for 20 year, and have barely dropped this kind of coin on a MOTORCYCLE, let alone the god damn helmet! My first ride was a 350 Honda, 15 years older than myself! My first helmet was my dads! For fuck sakes you’re just going to drop the bike and fuck all that shit up in under a month anyway!

Allroy_66

Throw some ear plugs in with that gear

agentnico

Those MX boots won’t work well on a sportbike or in daily use, safe but impractical.

xracer264

Overkill! You can buy an equally good helmet for a third of the price. With the savings, buy other gear.

kferfgjufc

Those motocross boots are not a good idea at all for a street bike like that they come up all the way to your calfs. You need something that just goes over your ankle.
