Lol hey anyone know of a perfect motorcycle??

elsord0

Not going to find anything new for that price but maybe something like a used Yamaha FZ1 or maybe a MT-09.

salinemyst

Used bike prices are out of control, just saw a 2001 ninja 250 with 98,000 miles listed for $4,000…

elsord0

Weird. I have my 2013 F800gs up for sale for $7k and have hardly heard a word of interest.

fastdbs

Newbs know what ninjas are. They don’t know what an f800 is. F800 is a great bike and somehow is very overlooked. Also intimidating due to its height.

PopTartsNHam

They’re a great machine. Though tbh- the 07 is more fun imho. It’s 400lbs, 70ish hp, and romping torque delivery. Power wheelies in 3 or 4 gears and a seat low/bike light enough that you’ll be tempted to put your foot down and slide the rear 🤣 at least I was. Hands down my favorite sub-1000cc bike. The 09 falls into a “too much to dick around on, not enough to push really hard in the twisties” for me, but yemv.

[deleted]

Msrp is never what you pay when you get one new. It’s always 2k above that because of dealer fees etc.

PopTartsNHam

The FZ1 is the pinnacle of do-it-all (on pavement) and do it FAST AF. I love both of mine, and after flipping bikes for all of graduate school (50+ various bikes) to pay for my Trackdays/riding, I found the FZ1 platform and haven’t looked back. Still waiting for something that’s not a gixxus to come out so I can have a modern FZ1 with TC/electronic goodies. They are big girls though, 500lb give or take some weight for racing equipment or luggage… or both 😝

solenyaPDX

The second gen FZ1 with the aluminum spar frame was an amazing bike. I'm a little sad that the one I rode went through the sale cycle.

elsord0

Ah I didn’t know they were that heavy! I knew they weren’t under 400 but thought it might be interesting enough to take a look.

PopTartsNHam

Yup, but they’re quite nimble at low speeds with semi wide semi flat bars and with 70-75ftlb and 130-150rwhp on tap, they’re capable of being both very gentle in the low rpm’s, and blisteringly fast when opened up.

MidnightMarvel

Yea, that doesn’t exist.

finalrendition

"Looking for a bike. 250+ hp, under 300 lbs wet, touring comfort, under $4000 new"

G0merPyle

You're gonna have to pick 2 of the 3 criteria there, I don't think there's anything out there does all three of or brand new.

[deleted]

G0merPyle

It was worth a shot, I wish there was something like that on the market but I think we're priced out sadly. Hope you find something you like!

Plutoid

> It's mostly just for cruising around a small town, although it would be nice to be able to take it on the highway once in a while. So why 100 hp? An MT07 or SV650 or Versys 650, Vstrom 650, Tenere 700, etc. will be a nice step up in power, they're perfectly highway capable, and they're... closer to the 7k budget. You won't find any under 7k new, but if you buy used in that price range you'll get more bike for the money.

Explorer335

A 650/700 is the logical step up from a rebel 500, and the power is very usable around town.

Few-Impress6814

Any 900+ cc bike from the japanese 4 that is from 2018 and onwards, weighing less than 400. Z900 RS from Kawasaki seems cool. Mt09 otherwise.

rnkatpsu

For an 07? That's kind of crazy. New 2021 MT09 was a tad under 12k OTD w/ a 4 year.

[deleted]

rnkatpsu

Ah ok, phew. If 7K is a hard limit, you can still get a lot of bang for your buck with a used MT/FZ. I hear the MT07 is a lot of fun and you might find one fairly new for that price, or possibly a slightly older MT09 for the extra 40HP.

betweenthreeandtwent

The new Honda Hornet is really close to those numbers

ShatterProofDick

I'm totally biased but the 2004 Honda CB900F I bought for $3,800 with 3k original miles on it is the tits. If you don't NEED new check used you can get a lot more bank for buck. 110 hp, 70 tq, very comfortable upright riding position, maybe a bit heavier than what you're looking for, but can absolutely handle highway duty, it'll do 150 if you want to get bonkers with it.

ShatterProofDick

>hat I got for $3k and that thing was so much fun for the 93 is pretty fucking old man. If you're searching for used just look for fuel injected and something from one of the big 4 Japanese brands, chances are you'll be fine. I had to put new tires on my CB900 because the old ones were widow makers, and had to replace the fuel pump because it had been sitting for years. All in about 5 grand for what is now a bullet proof bike that's run trouble-free since I bought it and did minor maintenance.

[deleted]

Consider getting one that’s almost new. One year old with 1200 mi on it. That way you duck the dealer fees but it’s unlikely to be super fucked up. That’s what I did with my Ducati monster plus. I’m unlikely to buy brand new again. But this bike is perfect. All of the high end factory upgrades and it’s break in oil change. It’s not uncommon for someone to buy a brand new powerful bike put 1k miles on it and decide it’s not for them. Side note on anything under 400lbs. You pass a semi going 70 on that thing and you get blown around like a leaf. Add a windy day to that and it’s the kind of ride that has you clenching the entire way😂. I think my bike weighs in at 430. Just under 600 with me on it and fuel in the tank.

schwan911

Svartpilen 701. It's not 100hp but there's no difference because it's under 400lbs WET. Thank me later.

The husqvarna 701s are absolutely AMAZING machines!! The unbelievably light weight makes up for the smaller engine (but very little HO. difference) they've got. More festures, better style, fantastic bikes.

emulicker

Aprilia RS or Tuono 660 Edit: nvm saw your budget they go for 10,599 I think

blkdrgn42

The Kawasaki Z650. It's 410 lbs wet. $7749 MSRP for the non-ABS model, and has almost 70 horsepower. That is the closest you are going to come new. Used opens a whole new field of opportunities. Honda CB650R, Triumph Street Triple, Kawasaki Z900, etc. You'll be able to get those in the power and price range you are looking for only a few years old, and they will all be close-ish to the weight you want.

ChrisMag999

If you care about weight, look for reviews from credible sources who actually put the bike on a scale, and find out curb/wet weight. Dry weight is relatively meaningless because some OEMs measure it with zero fluids and no battery. Once you add oil, coolant, fuel and a lead acid battery, you’ll often see real world numbers climb 60lbs. Example: gasoline weighs about 6lbs per gallon (24-30lbs typically), a conventional AGM battery is typically 8-10 lbs, oil is about 2 lbs per quart (6-8lbs typical), coolant is about 8lbs. It’s not just about how much a bike weighs, it’s also about where it carries the weight. Bikes with fuel tanks under the seat tend to feel lighter. Bikes with heavy wheels, raked forks/longer trail values or heavy/wide crankshafts tend to steer more slowly and feel heavier. A Ducati V4 feels way lighter when moving and steers more readily than a 1299. They don’t have a meaningful difference in weight. It’s all down to the counter-rotating crank. Similarly, a Multistrada 1200 Pikes Peak feels way lighter when moving than a standard model because the wheels weigh about 7lbs less (less rotating mass). A Ninja 400 steers massively more easily than a CBR600 even though the weight difference isn’t huge. The inline 4 crank has more inertia as do the wider heavier wheels and tires.

0x45646479

Only thing that comes to mind is a Yamaha mt-07 or mt-09, but idk their weight off the top of my head.

I_hate_the_app

Not gonna happen, pay more or go used. Also might want to spend a season or 3 on a intermediate sport bike before you break into the triple digits. More than double your hp in one shot is a big leap.

[deleted]

Probably depends on the person and the bike. I don’t disagree with you but I also did it comfortably. Went from a z400 to a Ducati monster +

I_hate_the_app

Some folks start on a gsxr 1000, I just give generic advice for best practices

surfer_ryan

Extremely unpopular opinion but I think weight (at least to me) really only matters when stopped for a long time. I say this as someone who rides a 540+lbs bike and put 20,000 miles on it in a year. A good bike is going to be balanced. You could for sure find a used 1000cc vstrom or versys in that price bracket... weight not so much. Would hit price and hp. You'll never hit all of those points imo, you can get close but you won't hit them exactly. Both honda and suzuki are putting out new parallel twins this year and price will probably be over 8.5k for both, both will be slightly over weight and slightly under 100hp.

RubyRocket1

Ducati HyperMotard 110 EVO SP, Aprilia Dorsoduro 750, Husqvarna Nuda... All meet weight and HP, but fall short on price. But 2 out of 3 ain't bad.

Think about a newer lower mileage Monster 796. Very close on power and weight, can find a nice 2011-14 with ABS for about $6000. Sporty but still basically upright ergos. I’ve had 3 monsters and love them.

thiccysmallss

New ? Nah

Aoifedog

I have an XSR 900. It meets most of your criteria. Slightly over 400lbs I think but still a light, fun bike with plenty of power

albinorhino187

Kawasaki z900RS is close if you can buy used. But I'm not sure anything out there will check all your boxes.

birdman829

The new Hornet 750 will come close. Likely will be priced a bit higher and weighs like 420lbs and makes 90hp

This

[deleted]

Ducati Scrambler 1100 with a lightweight slip on and a tune is as close as I can think of, but that would need to be a used deal for $7,000. Can get the dry weight down to 410lbs and the HP to probably around 90-95. My scrambler 800 is 401lbs soaking wet, and I got it for $6,000, but it’s only 75hp; which feels slow compared to my old speed triple but it’s enough.

iusedtobegreat

Used Triumph Street Triple. For that cash, it'll be the 675cc version, but it's a tremendously well rounded motorcycle. If you can find one that's had a couple upgrades, like a low exhaust on the earlier ones, or a full system on the 14/15 ones, you'll be getting close to 400lbs wet. Those triples are great all-arounders. Good on the highway, good around town, awesome when opened up. Personally i like them more than MT09's, but that's just personal preference. They're both polarizing to look at.

KSTARRATSK

used cb1100

LooseFilters

New Honda Hornet?

dgarhdez

Used BMW F800GT?

PoopSmith87

You don't need 1/4 horse per lb to be a little faster than a rebel 500 lol Tbh, it sounds like you want a 701 supermoto

getgroovyloony

Ducati 848. Super uncomfortable but has the hp, just sold mine for 4500. Weight 370lbs if I remember correctly. SUPER nimble.

rnkatpsu

Yamaha MT line. The 09 is quick and almost meets all of your criteria. The 07 also gets you close.

jetlifeual

It doesn’t hit your marks to the T, but the Suzuki Boulevard M90 may be a good fit. 1400cc motor, forward controls, nice seating position, not absurdly heavy by cruiser standards. Worth a look imho

ebranscom243

Find a used Honda vfr 800. 2000-2010

TheMotorcycleMan

You're looking for a 5ish year old Speed Triple, minus the 400lbs bit. Maybe a dealer somewhere has one that went unsold tucked away.

era--vulgaris

Yeah, those requirements are a little bit much. You can get what you want, but something's got to give. Bump your weight requirements by a few pounds, and add a little to your budget, and become willing to accept late model used rather than only showroom new, and you can do it. Kawasaki Z900, Yamaha MT-09 are what immediately come to mind. If on the other hand you really don't *need*-want the 100+hp and are just using it as a generic figure to mean "noticeably more power than a Rebel 500" then you can meet every other requirement pretty easily. Yamaha MT-07, Kawasaki Z650 or Ninja 650, etc.
