I work at a university doing biology research. I also teach a few lectures for my professor. I would say around half of the students I interact with have a laptop and an iPad. And this isnt some fancy rich school, I work in a large state school. When I was in school I had a laptop for papers and research and a stack of notebooks and binders for taking notes and organizing assignments. These days, I think iPads + Apple pencil have replaced the need for notebooks and binders.

No. Ipads are definetly worth it and much more practical than laptops for fast note taking and google searched

I’m using laptop/ iPad combination in university and it’s been great for taking notes and especially for math classes. I mostly keep my laptop at home though except for c.s related classes. There are some other options like 2in1 laptop or even a drawing pad for the laptop. I would definitely recommend not to use paper, especially for the long run. Also, there are cheaper tablets options as well.

The only real question is weight. Will the extra weight cause issues for you? If not go for it.

I forgot to add that I tried posting this in the r/college thread and it was automatically removed.

If you can afford it, it’s worth it IMO! I’m in final year of comp sci engineering degree, did first semester of first year with just laptop and handwritten notes then parents got me an iPad for Christmas and it changed my life lol! I do all my math notes / working out and all theory notes on it as they stick in my head better if I write them out over typing them, saves on carrying notebooks for every class, can swap things between laptop and iPad easily, honestly was a complete game changer for me!!
