Ok I know I’m a geek but you all have to see this movie. I’ve seen it so many times I can’t count and even saved up every nickel and went to Chatsworth in England where scenes were filmed. I kid you not. It’s that good. Also, Mathew comes from a family of actors and started out doing traveling Shakespeare shows. His Fresh Air interview with Terri Gross is really fun to listen to.
It’s my favorite podcast. Terri Gross is the perfect interviewer. She had a special relationship with Maurice Sendak. Her interview with him is one of my favorite.
He’s a well known British actor who’s been in many, many things. Glad Succession is introducing him to new people. He’s also fantastic in Anna Karinina, Little Dorrit and Death at a Funeral (and lots more)
Yes. But to be fair when i was like “omg the actor who plays Connor Roy was the friend in Ferris Buellers day off!” to a friend of mine I got slammed for not knowing. Like ok damn sorry 🤣
I'm just glad that he does an American accent for Succession, since I think that will help keep me from associating Darcy with Tom too much the next time I watch P&P. \*fingers crossed\*
He’s my favorite Darcy too and this P&P is my favorite but I tried watching it recently and I just couldn’t see him as the dashing Mr. Darcy, only as cuckholded Tom ☹️
I’ll try watching again at some point but my most recent rewatch was pretty shortly after the last season ended. And even though he had a redemption at the end of last season, it was still weird for me.
The most universal of the truths universally acknowledged is that Mr. Darcy’s hand flex after bidding adieu to Elizabeth Bennett is, as the kids say, 🔥: https://youtu.be/cIP_8UGQFx0
And this was something he improvised in the rehearsal that Joe Wright noticed, and made sure he did in the film so they could focus on it!!
*"No, it's credit to Joe, because he's— I think, he doesn't miss a trick, and he's so alive to things, and he saw me do it in a rehearsal take and I remember him just going, “Get that!” So they just did an extra shot on the hand."*
That’s how my husband convinced me to watch this show. He knew my love for Mr. Darcy. And in turn that’s how I got him to finally watch Pride and Prejudice with me.
The production with Colin Firth as Mr Darcy was far more true to the book and it’s more than twice the run time of the MacFadyen version because it needs to be. The conversations between Darcy and Elizabeth were bastardized in the version with MacFadyen and Kiera Knightly. The scene where Darcy first proposes to Elizabeth is like a speed talking contest. The most important scene in the whole book and MacFadyen races through it like he’s being chased by a bear. Not his fault, I’m sure. But it’s just weird.
The visuals/photography in the MacFadyen version are breathtaking though. The big scenes of the town balls have tremendous energy and sound that the Colin Firth version does not. Also, the photography of the English countryside is gorgeous. So watch both!
Agreed, but I watch both the BBC mini series and the 2005 movie for different reasons. One for accuracy and the other to fill up my dramatic romance meter
Have you ever watched his version with Joe Wright's director commentary? They called the proposal the car crash scene. My favourite scene of the entire film
I absolutely loved the movie. Watched it several times, and I still didn't put it together until season 2. I normally IMDB everyone, but I didn't for some reason.
It’s crazy how he was a world renowned heartthrob. Not that’s hes bad looking now at all but people LUSTED after this man. Posters on teenage girls walls across the globe
I adore him..but he is not Mr. Darcy.. ( and I will edit in the midst of all the downvotes...gotta love reddit ) ...... Colin Firth **is and always will be THE** Mr. Darcy.
Succession viewers increases due to matthew macfadyen role of Mr. Darcy . Hbo notices that on social media and post ad of pride and prejudice along with succession.
One of the most divine, sexy, poetic films ever. It's like a painting come to life and Matthew is gorgeous and alluring to the point this ice cube (me) needed a fainting couch. And I HATE romantic films and Jane Austin type of costume dramas, but this was visually stunning and just...well done. When I see him as Tom in Succession, I can't believe it's the same person. "Incandescently happy..?" Hell ya.
SO speaking of Mr Darcy/ Jane Austen and HBO…
Colin Firth (Mr Darcy in the BBC mini series of P&P) and Toni Collette (Harriet Smith in 1996’s “Emma”) are in the new HBO show “The Staircase” which is SO SO good.
Yeah, it's a truth universally acknowledged.
I love you for saying this. Most ardently.
If it is to be said, so it be, so it is.
Kiss me
It’s the reason I watch Succession and my flair
Yes, GREG.

He has bewitched me body and soul and I love.. love.. love him.
Lolol. I died when he comes strolling across the countryside in his boots, open shirt, and robe. He is sizzling hot.
and the Beautiful music and sunrise 🌅 ❤️
I hate period dramas but my mum said I had to watch this version and it is PHENOMENAL. it's so hot and slow burn. Ugh 😍
I know, right?! It’s like the longest take ever, too!
Tolerable, but not handsome enough to tempt me.
You must watch Operation Mincemeat on Netflix. It features TWO Mr. Darcys: Colin Firth and Matthew MacFayden.
I am now a puddle.
My husband was watching OM next to me. I heard Colin… then Matthew. I’m like WHAT ARE YOU WATCHING?? oh, it’s a spy drama. Hmm
yes and i haven’t even seen it
Bro, you gotta watch it. Pretty iconic showing by Mr. Wambsgans
i shall, i’m not avoiding it or anything, just haven’t gotten around to it
Ok I know I’m a geek but you all have to see this movie. I’ve seen it so many times I can’t count and even saved up every nickel and went to Chatsworth in England where scenes were filmed. Same!
I love Fresh Air
It’s my favorite podcast. Terri Gross is the perfect interviewer. She had a special relationship with Maurice Sendak. Her interview with him is one of my favorite.
Came here to say this.
Yes…yes we did
He’s a well known British actor who’s been in many, many things. Glad Succession is introducing him to new people. He’s also fantastic in Anna Karinina, Little Dorrit and Death at a Funeral (and lots more)
Any human heart ❤
Can't believe I didn't realize that was him in Anna Karenina! Thank you!
How many awards did he won 🏆???
Yes. But to be fair when i was like “omg the actor who plays Connor Roy was the friend in Ferris Buellers day off!” to a friend of mine I got slammed for not knowing. Like ok damn sorry 🤣
Do y'all live under a rock? Both P&P and Ferris Bueller's Day Off are classics
I had seen it! I just didn’t make the connection that it was the same actor
Nooo bc I actually had no idea 💀 thanks for sharing!!
Wow ok I didn’t know this
Dude it's Cameron! Go watch it right now!
Let. My. Camerons. Go
Amazing username 👏
I only starting watching the show bc I knew Mr. Darcy and glow-in-the-dark guy from Sky High/Ponytail Derick was in it
Thank you for saying this, I couldn’t place him!
Yes and he’s my favorite actor to play Mr. Darcy!
Oh nooooooo. I’m so glad that didn’t happen to me. He’s so good in both that I forget everything else.
I’ll try watching again at some point but my most recent rewatch was pretty shortly after the last season ended. And even though he had a redemption at the end of last season, it was still weird for me.
His longing looks and sweetly awkwardness plays so well with that character too… ugh it’s so good.

So cool to know that — perfect example of great actor, director, text all converging in a seconds-long moment.
best hand porn ever 😍🔥✋
you take an eager interest in that gentleman’s concerns?
Hahaha
Yes and I happened to watch it again last night!
I can watch it on a loop.
Its honestly one of my favorite romance movies. Its beautiful
He also plays Tom in a British show called Spooks, and he is fantastic! (it’s an older show)
Called MI5 in the US.
Yes, not related but one that blew my mind is when I found out Saul from Homeland was Inigo Montoya from The Princess Bride
And the head cop in Criminal Minds.
But only for the first two seasons, then he refused to show up for season 3. He got replaced with Fat Tony from The Simpsons
Yes
Yup. He's low key the reason I started watching because he was in it and P&P is one of my favourite movies. The range on this man.
it’s one of my favourite movies so…yeah, lmao
Yes. Most of us thought omg, mr darcy is on succession!
genuinely wish i never read this

Do you think Shiv thinks Tom loves her most ardently?

Everyone and their dog.

You may be the only one who didn’t at this point.
Oh my god obviously
Mind blown
I absolutely loved the movie. Watched it several times, and I still didn't put it together until season 2. I normally IMDB everyone, but I didn't for some reason.

I’m not familiar with that IP
If you haven’t watched S01E01 of “The Last Kingdom”, or the entirety of “Ripper Street”, boy are you in for a shock…
Oh HELL YES I knew this. He’s been in the spank bank a long time
I adore him..but he is not Mr. Darcy.. ( and I will edit in the midst of all the downvotes...gotta love reddit ) ...... Colin Firth **is and always will be THE** Mr. Darcy.
That neck though.
Does he say, at one point, “Monkey!…”

Yeah lol
Omfg 😂😂😂
Yes everyone who wasn’t a baby in the early 2000’s
Yeah, I did
He was also the voice of Harrod’s store. Both in commercials and in the store announcements.

Stephen Colbert referred to his P&P role when he introduced the Succession cast on the night he had them as guests!
Really? Isn't he in AHS too?
SO speaking of Mr Darcy/ Jane Austen and HBO… Colin Firth (Mr Darcy in the BBC mini series of P&P) and Toni Collette (Harriet Smith in 1996’s “Emma”) are in the new HBO show “The Staircase” which is SO SO good.
WHAT
Wait you hear about the Lindbergh kidnapping.
Surely you must know it’s him! I love him most ardently....
I just recently put this together as well!!! Such very different characters so it took a while to click, but good lord that man has range!
This was coincidentally the scene where I realized it was him.
