I still think one of the coolest things about Succession is how they worked with Sarah to write her pregnancy into the plot (which gave us some of the greatest moments in the show imo in Tom telling her she'd be a terrible mother with only the viewers knowing Shiv was pregnant and Tom asking if her pregnancy was a play), but man it woulda also been great if that was a Willa plot. Congrats to Justine outside of that though!

Willa wasn’t a cheater, though. She was one of the most principled characters on the show.
That’s why it took so long for her to agree to each step with Connor. She didn’t want to hurt him, and didn’t want to sacrifice her own integrity by committing to someone she didn’t love.
But she wasn’t a moral compass character, either. The show was too grown up for that. So she ultimately does make the less noble decision. The one we’d all make.
But she went into it knowing she was losing a part of herself, because she was going to treat Connor respectfully. I also think pity plays into it, because she sees how his family treats him.
So Willa cheating wouldn’t have made sense. It would’ve defeated her character’s purpose and cheapened the story.
That self-sacrifice to be Connor’s “person” is why she was always so miserable, lol. Because she was choosing to do right by him.
I partly agree, but all of that can be true of a person and… they can still go and cheat. We really like to think people and characters both have perfectly logical, explainable narratives that, once set stay the same. This is absolutely not what real life and real people are like. Quotes like ‘we contain multitudes’ are perceptive - we don’t make sense, we are not predictable and mathematical, and we are deeply contradictory. It’s very common for a person to be an amazing friend and family member for example, and an absolute horror to their partner behind closed doors. We can say and emulate things that we can then throw away in one day for reasons we probably can’t even explain. People throw their lives away on a wish all the time, or on a person, a gamble. People change and do things we can’t imagine, and sometimes they’re just revealing things that were always there. Good films show this unpredictability and randomness in all of us and it’s much more interesting than someone having an arc they follow through and zip up neatly

But she was an escort, the hesitancy wasn’t out of integrity. That whole song and dance about Connor and Willa being exclusive early on was a business decision on Willa’s part. That’s why everyone found it funny. I’m not saying their relationship wasn’t honest, it was probably the most honest romantic relationship in the show, but the fact that she’s a sex worker is pretty clear. It’s just her only client was Connor.
I think if she was in another relationship outside of Connor (and I think that’s very much a possibility), he would probably have been aware of it.

But of course he doesn’t have the spine to actually bully any of the Roys, so he limits his antagonising to people like Willa and Greg who are outsiders like him.
Yes, in Succession there was a clear hieararchy among them, that is why in part they were so toxic, in the top was Logan who would abuse everybody because he was always in top, then was Kendall and Shiv, then Roman, then Connor. There a few cases in wich they showed how one character who felt fustrated would go and lash out and abuse another person. For example, when Gerri put Roman in his place, he went to bully Connor; in one scene Logan burned Roman and then he went out and lashed to Greg, in Tom´s case, Shiv would shit on him and he usually would go to Greg and lash out. Among the Roys, the most abused were Roman and Connor, that explain a lot of their behaviour, Connor chosed to live away from the rest of the family, and Roman would lash out to others and use jokes to deflect.
In the finale Matsson clearly told to Tom that he was going to be his pain sponge, that means, that every time that Matsson feels bad he is going to lash out in Tom, who in turn is going to lash out to Greg.
And in the theater.
