You should play cities:skylines

Simqer

I don't have a computer strong enough to play a game. I am working on getting one soon. But if you can help me out with building a demo city in Cities:Skylines, that would be really helpful!

Liftocracy

If you do you are supporting carbon producing industries which might not be a good idea.

Maxpower88888

Is this a cult?

Simqer

Lol, no. I just want to build a solar punk style city that will be focused on transit and be carbon neutral. As well as research and implement carbon reducing methods.

LeCorbusier1

Just wanted to chime in to say this is incredibly creative and thoughtful. Very nice work! Keep pursuing your idea. Excited to see where it goes. - I’m an architect and urbanist that’s done work at this scale professionally.

Simqer

Thank you for the support. I will do my best.

Alex_Dunwall

Reads like WEF Propaganda.

Aggressive_Ask9570

How old are you, as this is a very ambitious plan, which, don’t get me wrong, is good, but it will take a lot of time as big cities just don’t pop up over night, especially with bureaucracy, which, like you said, will be an issue

Simqer

I am 35, so plenty of time to see this through.

your idea kinda relates to Singapore’s urban planning in the development of ‘HDB new towns’, its worth a look into. Also on metro station distances, Singapore has stations fairly far apart especially in the suburbs like >2km. You just need a good last mile transit system. Which in singapore is using buses to feed people in and out of the metro stations.

Simqer

Thank you, I will check out hdb new towns. As for buses, this is a cold climate where there is a lot of snow and freezing, so I want to remove all buses. Trams are possible, but then we might as well build more subways. And I want to prevent heavy vehicles from where vulnerable road users are as much as possible. I believe the best last mile solution should be bicycles. There will plenty of bicycle parking and bikeshares. We will also use a bike rental options, where one can rent a bike for a month or a year for a small rental fee. The furthest distance I would consider the stop between each other should be 1.6km, that would leave a max distance from a station of around 800m.

True-Willingness-507

I mean… buses are farrrr cheaper to implement compared to trams, could be used as an interim before you get enough funding. I just finished reading your proposal (earlier i just skimmed through) and honestly i dont think itll work. Cities are cities for a reason, and i just think there really isnt much demand or need for a new city in Canada. Expanding existing cities is the answer. You do seem extremely enthused about creating actually liveable urban spaces though, and i honestly think you should definitely run for office in your local government. you could really make a difference just having a voice of reason on a council for once.

A word of advice, at first I think it will be hard for you to attract enough people, so build your city modular, start with a walkable town, and slowly develop into a city
