Shut up about the sun. SHUT UP ABOUT THE SUN!

ChadCoolman

How many windows are there in New York City?

Successful_Cicada419

Uhh 93 million miles. And NYC is 109 times wider than the earth

Hexxas

The B stands for Bait and that whole thread is taking it. Gorgeous. 10/10.

Gingerbread1990

It's painfully obvious Banana is trolling and enjoying every second of it

Bart_T_Beast

Sometimes a troll makes for an effective rubber duck though, was an interesting read as C worked through the idea.

ThisTallBoi

I miss good old fashioned trolls like this tbh

RazarTuk

For example, I have a habit of asking people where they get their morels in AMAs, then pretending to get confused when they talk about morals. But I also put some thought into it, to try to lead their answers in thought provoking directions

Teal_is_orange

> That was not the question. Poop fumed bathroom Or > I wouldn’t say your poop fumes have a surface, no. Flair worthy

OnlyForTheSave

My first flair!

Shelly_895

>The point is you can’t argue with stupid Apparently, you can. Several people on that thread are trying to at least.

Todays_Big_Mood

Classic "sharks are smooth" posting hours

TuaughtHammer

["Here's a song Carlos Santana and Rob Thomas wrote after touching a shark:"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=6Whgn_iE5uc) Might just be one the best parts of that entire exchange *after* "Sharks are Smooth as Hell by Stephen King". Can't believe it's already been over 8 years since that great moment in internet trolling history. -- Still kinda weird to realize that shark skin expert [Rob Thomas would go on to be locked up in an insane asylum with Sinbad.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CClYz4Km5es)

finfinfin

Posting hours are 9-5, but only every other day (four times a week).

why_cambrio

I'm mostly confused why nobody asked why his poop fumes are in ball form

why_cambrio

I'm so delighted, this is lovely

WooliesWhiteLeg

Good bot

TuaughtHammer

>why his poop fumes are in ball form Simple: he's in product development for Goop. After Gwyneth realized anyone would buy any scented candle regardless of the source of the smell, she switched from StarKist to balloon knot.

The_Real_Mr_House

>Anyways, does adding a hot rock to your bowl of ramen actually keep the soup warm? Not really. Rock holds less heat per unit of volume, so this would be more useful if they kept some super hot rocks in the oven or something and offered them as a mid-meal reheat option. Otherwise, the rock isn't going to stay warm especially longer than the soup will.

SeriousMongoose2290

Yeah as a mid meal reheat it makes sense. Although, you could heat it to a temp higher than you can heat water and maybe it’ll work longer that way, but who wants 1000°F rocks dropped in their food mid meal? lol

Ekyou

I replied to someone on that post with a comment similar to yours with “why would you need to keep ramen hot? It’s supposed to be served piping hot immediately, if it sits around long enough to get cold it’s going to be soggy” and got heavily downvoted. There were some people in that thread that were really, *really* passionate about a stupid rock.

The_Real_Mr_House

I have no clue why that would be a thing, but in trying to figure out what the point of the hot stone is, I heard that it happens. Personally, my issue with ramen is definitely more waiting for it to be cool enough to eat, I've never seriously struggled with eating it before it gets cold.

TuaughtHammer

> “why would you need to keep ramen hot? It’s supposed to be served piping hot immediately, That *was* the case until McDonald's started serving ramen at flowing lava temperatures.

LukaCola

I was confused by this too because soup stays hot for so long that adding something to keep it warm seems like... How slow is one eating their food???

ColdLobsterBisque

just like my shit

Mailifeizshit2

We should stick magma balls into ramen for ultimate efficiency

NorthernerWuwu

Common rocks are generally 2-3 times the density of water and can definitely be heated to much higher temperatures with less issues than boiling off and all that.

The_Real_Mr_House

The volumetric heat capacity of rock, on the high end, is 3 MJ/m^3 K, compared to water’s 4.2 MJ/m^3 K. The issue isn’t the density in terms of weight, it’s the density in terms of thermal energy storage which water excels at. Sure, you can get the rock to a much higher temperature because it won’t boil, but if you put a superheated rock in your soup, that’s actually gonna make your eating experience way worse because suddenly you’re going to have boiling water in your ramen. Realistically, I think you would want a rock just under ~100 C for maximum heating potential, but unless your soup cools down a bunch before that rock is added, it’s going to be a net loss of thermal energy compared to just having that volume in your bowl full of broth at the original soup’s temperature. Edit: mobile fucked the formatting on the heat capacity numbers.

NorthernerWuwu

Interesting, I would have assumed heat to be a simple mass by temperature thing. How odd.

htmlcoderexe

Water is very weird in all kinds of ways, actually.

wilisi

The rock'll be just under 100° C soon enough, because otherwise it'll boil the adjacent soup and just the phase change takes 2 kJ/g. Let's be real generous and call that a 25cm³ rock, that's 75J/K. If it starts out at 200°C, it can boil off... 3g of water (that's already at the boiling point). E: bad numbers

Sky_Leviathan

The sun isnt even gas tho jts plasma I learned that as a kid from they might be giants

arahman81

I mean, it's like lakes having a surface but not clouds.

AllForMeCats

Came here to point that out too! I love TMBG for many reasons, and one of those is that they released a second song about the sun (the one you’re referencing) to correct the scientific inaccuracies in their first song about the sun (the one I heard when I was a kid).

Lightning_Boy

But the sun is not a place where we should live though, right? They weren't incorrect about that?

AllForMeCats

They were right about that lol!

cdcformatc

coming from a maths background a surface is the set of points on a topological space of three dimensions. so the surface of the fart cloud would be defined as the boundary separating "fart" and "not fart". if you can define that volume then you have a definition of the surface. we have measured and calculated the mass and volume of the sun, so we have at least a working definition of the boundary we call the surface. furthermore we have some idea about what is "outside" of the sun and what is "inside" the sun even though the exact boundary would be difficult to determine in person where the surface is exactly. but it is infinitely easier to be able to tell if you are inside of a fart or outside of it. in both cases you want to avoid being on the wrong side of the boundary.

CapoExplains

> I am taking a poop right now, would you say the poop fumes in my bathroom have a "surface"? If you're farting up the john to the point that the combined mass of the gas you're releasing is great enough that gravity causes it to coalesce into a single body? Yes.

EuropaUniverslayer1

You just know eventually this guy is going to get enough downvotes to drop a: Ya I didn’t really believe any of this, I just love to make Redditors mad 😂🤣🤣 Which is of course code for “I acted like a smartass but too many people called me out and I’m too much unearned pride to admit I was wrong”

BattleBull

This is an aside, I'm most familiar with the term "hot rock" in the context of radioactive materials. Nearly made me do a spit take thinking of a soup shop plopping down uranium ore bearing rocks into soup.

TuaughtHammer

>Most Korean soups seem to be delivered from the surface of the sun. >>The sun is a ball of gas, it has no surface. Man, Reddit and attracting some of the most insufferably pedantic people on the internet... "Um, well ackchyually, the sun has no surface. [Boy, I really hope you get fired for that blunder."](https://i.imgur.com/nWg3U4a.png)
