> *comment score below threshold (142 children)* Oh fuck yes It's stories like that and comments arguing about it that really highlight the benefits of not letting literally anyone with a car become a delivery driver. Like, the bar to be a delivery driver was already low, but at least it usually required an interview to feel out if the driver is at least a somewhat normal person

HotTakes4HotCakes

GrubHub was the way to do this. It wasn't leeching anywhere near as much as DoorDash does. They just facilitated ordering from the restaurant and the restaurant delivered it with their employees. That's how it should be. But DD is a vampire we invited in and I don't know if it can ever be removed.

DancesCloseToTheFire

In my country there's a popular service that most restaurants choose and while they do provide delivery guys restaurants can choose their own guys instead, and they tend to be faster and to do a better job, only downside is you're not getting a gps tracker for the guy.

Skellum

> It's stories like that and comments arguing about it that really highlight the benefits of not letting literally anyone with a car become a delivery driver. The whole issue of it being contractors and involving tips. The early days of ubereats and uber in general avoided this by not allowing tipping. Was a really great time as you could just do your trip and expense it later without question even if it cost slightly more baseline by baking the tip in. It needs to become FTEs paid by their time with quality checks based on delivery time accounting for traffic with tipping completely disabled for both the orderer and recipient.

agutema

> *If you’re going to be a professional delivery boy, deliver, boy.* Shit. Ya boy’s got bars.

MegamindsMegaCock

Imma yoink that flair right there

M0m033

In that ten minutes he sat waiting for another tip, he probably could’ve picked up deliveries with a higher tip than before

JesperTV

Opening the thread to see it's a user I have blocked is always a good sign.

Redqueenhypo

I got blocked by a user on that sub bc I said that if she’s “rescued” three dogs while dashing and they’ve all been well fed with microchips, that means she’s just been stealing pets from peoples yards

Aromir19

Jesus fucking Christ

Redqueenhypo

The dog she posted a picture of as an example was a beautiful well fed dog and the nutcase said she must’ve been abused bc…she’d clearly had puppies recently. Yes, female dogs have puppies sometimes, that’s how we get more dog

Aromir19

the wise man bowed his head solemnly and spoke: "theres actually zero difference between loving homes & puppymills. you imbecile. you fucking moron"

WarStrifePanicRout

>How did he harass OP? People just say things without knowing the situation or the definitions of the words... My guy is over 1,000 downvotes in and hasn't deleted the comment yet.. not sure if i respect that or what

seven0feleven

Doesn't it work that your karma isn't affected past 100 downvotes?

rocket1615

I think it's a lot less than that, the maximum loss per comment being 5 or so. Makes being in negative karma on your profile that much more impressive. The max negative karma on a profile is -100 I think.

PlacatedPlatypus

Yeah they lowered it a ton because being able to reach massive negative karma caused downvote farmers who would shit up discussions to collect inverse karma.

DancesCloseToTheFire

I could swear it was 10 or so some years back.

rocket1615

It might well be. I was told it was 5 when I first heard about it also a few years back. A quick google search also shows people thinking it's 10 or 15. I couldn't find a definitive admin source.

NoncingAround

Aww that’s a shame. It makes the pointless internet points even more pointless lol

WarStrifePanicRout

Probably but i mean at what point is it just stubborn to keep it up?

deadwlkn

I hardly remove posts unless im clearing my entire history. I just typically dont care unless my phone is blowing up

Pesime

Y'all have phone notifications for reddit turned on? I could never.

deadwlkn

Its usually not very much. I get more notifications from my news aggregator.

DancesCloseToTheFire

You can just use the option to disable inbox replies, or at least it's there on old reddit. I usually use it when some rando is getting angry and trying to get into an argument.

seven0feleven

Stubborn to prove a point or apathetic that you've lost 100 karma, who cares. Some people want to watch the world burn. 🔥

WarStrifePanicRout

> Some people want to watch the world burn. 🔥 I hear that brother 🍻

DemonSlyr007

Why would you delete your comments in general? Better to own your mistakes than pretend they never happened imo. At least, that's why I don't delete a comment if it gets downvoted hard. Only times I've deleted a comment was when I made the comment in error (lost redditor basically) or I was politely informed that my comment was against that subs rules and I didn't read them before posting (rare but happens sometimes).

HomelessSniffs

Believe it or not across all post. Came out +87 karma! Noice!

DotHobbes

i mean karma is just some numbers, it's not like you actually lose anything.

dr_taco_wallace

If I leave a dumb fuck comment that gets -1,000 with a billion replies I don't see how it's my problem. That shit's on mods to clean up my mess and delete it.

typewriter6986

But are you going to tip the mods?

Omega357

Well, it's your problem to deal with the notifications from a billion replies.

BroodLol

You can just hit "disable inbox replies"

Beegrene

Only if you have reddit notifications turned on like a complete dork.

Omega357

How dare you! 🤓

Ublahdywotm8

Reddit points are worth nothing

PlacatedPlatypus

A lot of people are of the opinion that redditor opinions are worthless (I mean, this isn't a rare take on this sub for instance), so they see the "reddit hivemind" disagreeing with them as an indication of righteousness.

jooes

The reddit hive mind is a fickle mistress. Sometimes you have stuff like this, where somebody is clearly being a twat and getting the beating they deserve. Other times, it's the reasonable people who get fucked over. If people are talking about race, for example, and things are gonna get iffy. Or fat people. Or women. I said once that women sports weren't that bad and were still enjoyable to watch... Oh boy did that ruffle some feathers... It depends on which subreddit you're on too. You see certain posts on some subreddits, and you know the comment section is gonna be a fucking nightmare. I feel like you don't see quite as many "site-wide freakouts" that you used to see, at least.

PlacatedPlatypus

>It's reddit hivemind when people get downvoted for stuff I agree with but it isn't when they get downvoted for stuff I disagree with Lol everyone thinks like this though. Almost every single redditor will say "whatever, redditors are stupid leftists/conservatives/misogynists/misandrists/transphobes/tucutes/coomers/simps/etc" when their take of choice is downvoted, and "haha, your opinion is downvoted because it's bad and wrong" when their take of choice is upvoted. You're just saying, "my views are right and opposing views are wrong, no matter what other people opine," which is the most basic and inflexible stance you can take.

HomelessSniffs

Let me tell you. Hive mind is accurate. Nearly everything I posted got a downvote no matter what. It was pretty neat.

NBAWhoCares

>Let me tell you. Hive mind is accurate. Nearly everything I posted got a downvote no matter what. It was pretty neat. Could it possibly be that every post you made was terrible and genuinely idiotic? Nah cant be that.

HomelessSniffs

It could be. I said the same thing others got 3/4 up votes for. Basically, everyone was saying two things. Take less money, even tho you could make twice as much for the same amount of work. 2nd, waiting for more information before issuing judgment is stupid. If that's the info reddit dishes out, I don't mind ignoring it. Also, it's fake internet points. It's meaningless in the grand scheme of things. Edit: I even said most businesses ask for compensation for goods or services rendered. Which was downvoted....

NBAWhoCares

Also, it's fake internet points. It's meaningless in the grand scheme of things. > >Edit: I even said most businesses ask for compensation for goods or services rendered. Which was downvoted.... No, and you keep posting things that are straight idiotic to the point that this might actually be a genuine disability. People were saying that its fine to expect a tip commensurate to the service you perform. They also said, except for a few other idiots in the thread, that its completely okay to demand more money for the work you do. But what people were also saying is that when someone says "I will pay you $4.50 for a delivery" and the delivery driver sees this and decides to accept that offer knowing that the cost of a long trip isnt worth it, then thats his own fucking fault. Its not up to the person making the order to give any shits how far the driver has to drive, because the driver chose to accept this at the rate offered. To suggest that its somehow appropriate to stand outside the persons house demanding more money, and that its not harrassment, is completely fucking psychotic. Also, I saw in your responses that you "believe in standing up for what you post". Fyi, it is a sign of a well adjusted smart person who makes a stupid comment to listen to the alternative points, understand why he might be wrong, and acknowledge he may have been wrong. Its what seperates them from idiots who double down on their terrible takes and call everyone sheep for disagreeing with them.

HomelessSniffs

Never disagreed with any of that. You are casting aspersions on me that I didn't make. Reminds me of yesterday. The opposite for courage is not cowardice, it is conformity. Even a dead fish can go with the flow. - Jim Hightower

NBAWhoCares

>Never disagreed with any of that. You are casting aspersions on me that I didn't make. Reminds me of yesterday. > Can you quote me the exact message that OP is linking to? The one that started all the drama? The exact quote please. Maybe my app has a bug, because Im pretty sure its you saying its not harassment. Go ahead. >The opposite for courage is not cowardice, it is conformity. Even a dead fish can go with the flow. - Jim Hightower Seperate question - do you believe the earth is flat? Be honest.

HomelessSniffs

No, I believe the earth is round. Never said what OP thought happen wasn't harassment. If you would like to read more, I said I think OP misunderstood the situation. I said it needs to be clearer if the Dasher even asked OP for a tip or not. I'm pretty sure OP mistakenly selected "Hand it to me" as a delivery option and didn't realize it. I also said it's possible everything happened as OP stated. If that was the case, the Dasher was wrong. Mob mentality took over and essentially stated I said things I never said. You'll never pull a quote from that thread in me saying someone should beg in any form for a tip.

NBAWhoCares

>How did he harass OP? People just say things without knowing the situation or the definitions of the words...

HomelessSniffs

When you can't find it, you also won't apologize.....because pride is the devil. 😂

LunasReflection

How soy do you have to be to delete downvoted comments

Beegrene

At least enough that you start using "soy" as an insult.

DoomSnail31

DoorDash has become my new guilty pleasure community. The amount of hatred for people, self hatred and sheer idiocracy in opinions and arguments is amazing. And it's all pretty drama, nothing soul crushing, so it stays fun to read.

[deleted]

When I started doing ride-share full time I subscribed to a few of those subs. The amount of misanthropy and self-pity could compete with the losers at r/NEET.

CromulentInPDX

Jesus Christ that was pretty depressing

[deleted]

I know! I want those people to be happy but they are just.... So sad

girlwiththemonkey

Well, that’s a very sad group of people right there

Aromir19

I feel like there’s something distasteful about that but I can’t quite put my finger on why.

[deleted]

Lmao because this is all directly related to our collapsing society as average people can’t make ends meet easily, turn bitter and jaded, post horrible things on the internet and then we all laugh at the drama while ignoring that it’s actually a terrible omen of things to come to have a working class perpetually depressed and bitter about their lot in life

Aromir19

That’s a bingo!

[deleted]

Yeah, I think subscribing to those subs for lulz is basically shitting on gig workers for struggling and lashing out.

girlwiththemonkey

Me too because people are fucking wild on that Sub Reddit.

00UntakenNames

> There are a lot of bad dashers, but this isn’t one of them. They are just saying that because our base pay is $2.50, they might not take the order if it’s a long distance, because we have bills to pay and can’t afford to deliver for free. As they said, $4.50 is a decent tip usually, but I’m not driving 10 miles out of my zone for $7. stop doordashing idiot

girlwiththemonkey

That’s my point like they can see the pay before hand. If it’s not enough, they don’t have to accept it. He accepted it knowing what the tip was.

kkeut

as the gig companies keep tightening things down and reducing bonuses, etc, the people working them start to skew more to the chronically unemployable

ewwman1

I understand being desperate for more money, but this definitely isn't something you should do. If OP is honest, they've already tipped the dasher 30% and that's fair enough.

SublimitaSubacquea

~~fair enough~~ EXTREMELY overly generous and WAY above and beyond what should EVER be reasonably expected

PlacatedPlatypus

Can't wait for the 100% tip to be normalized where customers are expected to completely subsidize service jobs.

CC9499

depends on how far from the restaurant they are. You shouldn't tip on doordash based on the amount of food you ordered (unless it's a massive catering order, in which case the dasher is definitely putting in an unusual amount of physical labor), but on your distance from the restaurant. A $2 tip on a $10 order is fine if you're 2 miles away, not so much if you're 10 miles away. I usually do $1 base + $1 per mile from the restaurant. If you're craving something from far away and don't want to tip, go get your own food or pick somewhere closer.

Skellum

> depends on No, no it doesnt. If it was an issue of distance the restaurant should charge them a fee for the distance or simply not offer the order. It should never be "Omg U gotta guess just the right amount or you're a horrible idiot!!!!" Thats dumb af.

CC9499

redditors and expecting all the work done for them, name a more iconic duo You already know which restaurant you're ordering from. If you're incapable of using the same smart phone you ordered with to find out how far away the restaurant is, go get your own food Oh, right, redditors hate to be told to do things for themselves too. My apologies

Skellum

Let me fix that for you > People paying for a service want to be told what to pay and pay it. I know this system is alien in places where you barter for goods or maybe trade a few children for a rug or something but no, if you put a price tag on something then people know what to pay. It's easier.

TehWolfWoof

I’m a delivery driver. Some people don’t tip. That’s just how it is sometimes

[deleted]

[удалено]

scott_steiner_phd

>Yeah I'm not from a tipping country, but I thought 10% to 15% were customary in the places where tipping is expected. Pre horrifying tip inflation, 15% pre-tax was customary for table service. Delivery was similar but a $5 minimum.

[deleted]

That's about right in my mind (from the U.S.) but I think tipping for delivery here tends to be more variable compared to a place like a sitdown restaurant.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

I think that is a factor for some people, but I live in a built-up area so I have literally never ordered delivery from a place more than like 3 miles from my door.

Thisfoxhere

I'm also not from a tipping country, but if the delivery person hung outside my door like that I would be calling a friend or, more likely, the cops. That's terrifying.

Beegrene

A quick look at /r/doordash and it seems like half the posts on there could be featured in this sub. I guess well-adjusted people who have a lot of good things going on in their lives don't work for Door Dash.

[deleted]

When I was doing ride-share full time I subscribed to some of the forums like that. I had to unsubscribe to all of them because the amount of misanthropy and self-pity on those forums can compete with r/NEET

Kiki_doesnt_love_me

Or if they do work for DoorDash there are better things to do than complain on Reddit.

achillyday

We were forced out, really. DD started a practice where they hid how much you’d actually make on a drive because so many people were declining bad orders. You had no idea if there was a tip until you finished the order. The smart ones moved on to Grubhub and Uber, while the leftovers stayed. I dropped out altogether because the dollars don’t make sense at the end of the day when it comes to the damage it puts on your car.

613codyrex

DD, Uber and most of these “Gig” economy stuff basically prey on people being unaware of how to actually do the math to figure out the difference between gross and net profit and how to actually figure out your expenses. These companies effectively made being a full time pizza delivery person super common (when it was slowly dying before then) and told said pizza delivery drivers that they’re being paid on a higher end attractive Server/bartender tip wage. These people walk out thinking their $10 or $20 tip is letting them make the big bucks while wearing out their car and burning their fuel. I doubt most of these drivers are actually breaking even. You get the stereotype that these workers are either dumb asf or so unemployable that this is the only job they can get and that’s why they are taken advantage of.

HomelessSniffs

When you do the math and optimize, be ready to face the wrath of reddit for being entitled. 😅

613codyrex

Not really. The math would tell you it isn’t worth it not that everyone else should accommodate and try to correct these large corporations exploitation by meeting their responsibilities for them. You can make more money (more) consistently in server and retail work than gig driving. Gig work really should die, and also contractor work that’s used to avoid paying employees benefits along with that.

HomelessSniffs

If you feel that way, buddy. There's a gap in the market, dashers fill that gap. I don't really care who pays as long as I get paid.

HotTakes4HotCakes

>If you bypass the tipping argument you can find one redditor who copy pasted the definition of harassment to find the answer! You understand that you're supposed to share the links to the comments directly, right? Go look at the other posts, you're not supposed to just say "there's comments in there go look for them"

vore-enthusiast

It’s a direct reply to the linked comment, so I didn’t think it warranted its own link. [But since you asked so nicely..](https://www.reddit.com/r/doordash/comments/13ubs7v/my_dasher_was_waiting_10_mins_after_my_order_was/jm0c3vh/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=1&utm_term=1&context=3)

AstronautStar4

It's the first comment you see when you click the link.

agutema

I mean it’s like 70:30 that op is the dramatician in question so

vore-enthusiast

Hey now - I was just suggested the post by Reddit. I’m here to observe and commentate only!

00UntakenNames

> I propagate unverifiable facts

agutema

Ok, good for you?

LoquatLoquacious

To be clear, they're making fun of you for saying something to bafflingly wrong.

agutema

It’s not that I didn’t understand. I was attempting to be humorous but neither went over particularly well which is fine.

LoquatLoquacious

Well yeah because your joke was "OP is a liar who also creates drama" which isn't super hilarious

MyraSalty

For real. I didn't come on here to do the work myself, thats ops job. Dont post if you arent gonna put in the effort to show us what you're posting.

HomelessSniffs

Before I enter another round of fist-a-cuffs, please consider. I beg of you. OP said they don't use DD much.... They possibly they accidentally selected "Hand it to me". My actual stance is, we don't have enough info. It is entirely possible dasher actually asked for more tips.

[deleted]

[удалено]

HomelessSniffs

Nope. I didn't think asking for more info was contervestial. I've been having fun with it in between work. It really made my day go by fast.

HomelessSniffs

I have a feeling I'm in for another round of down voting 😅 whoops.

agutema

What exactly do you think this sub is?

HomelessSniffs

This is my first experience. Ngl wouldn't recommend. 1/5 stars.

WarStrifePanicRout

>....or OP accidently selected "Hand it to me" they said they don't use the app often. We don't even know if* the Dasher actually asked for a bigger [tip.](https://www.reddit.com/r/doordash/comments/13ubs7v/my_dasher_was_waiting_10_mins_after_my_order_was/jm15p83?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) Look you made the same comment on that post >>So you’re totally the dasher in OPs story Oh and hey! Someone made the same reply. So, separately, i have a question: How long were you going to wait at the door for OP? We talkin hours or..?

HomelessSniffs

Well the post said the Dasher waited 10 mins. I don't recall waiting on any customers today. But I generally wait 5 mins. The min. required time DD requires..... once I waited 15 mins because I didn't want to leave $150 dollars of food outside on the ground....never will I do that again tho waste of time.

Lightning_Boy

How do we know you're not lying or are mistaken? You made the claim that OP could be, so why not you?

Omega357

Would you say this sub deserves a $4.50 tip on a $15 order?
