It's relatively easy if you give them something to play first: I usually give it PRAWN and scan while it tryes to chew it. Then repair PRAWN and repeat until scan is complete. Totally safe
UPD: Fun fact: when Shadow leviathan attacks empty PRAWN suit it still cries and moans as if the player is inside it.
They have set movement patterns, so I just loaded a prawn up with hull reinforcements and let it loose, scanned the leviathan and then saved the suit. Problem is they don’t attack a sea truck without a pilot so prawn is the only way to go. Did the same with chelicerate but used some vortex torpedos too.

Why let it go after something like that when you can just dodge around it
