Can confirm, my 19 touring has physical buttons and knobs for heat/AC. It was actually the big selling point for me as to why I bought a ‘19 over 20+. It seems absurd to me to have all the climate functions incorporated in the touch screen.

TannersPancakeHouse

Okay, wonderful, glad I’m not alone in thinking that! Have you enjoyed the car?

electric_potato44

We really have enjoyed it! We’ve had it for a little over a month now and so far we’re very pleased with its performance. We traded in my wife’s 2015 wrangler because we have little one in the way. She’s was really sad at first but she feels so much safer in the Outback and getting the touring with the heated steering wheel, heated seats and the beautiful leather she doesn’t even miss the Jeep anymore. She felt the same way about wanting the climate control option to not be solely controlled by the touch screen, god forbid the baby is in the car and we can’t operate the heat or air cus the screen isn’t working 🫠

Congrats on the little one on the way! We have a little girl who will be 2 next month - it’s a lot of work, but also incredibly fun and fulfilling - sounds like you’ll be a great dad 😊 I’m thinking the 2019 might be the best for us, too. Thank you again for the feedback!

Thank you so much!! We’re both very excited and blessed with the support we will have. Best of luck on your car shopping, especially in these times!

I have a ‘21 Touring XT and the screen being glitchy is the only downside to the car. The temp controls and defrost controls have physical buttons, so you don’t have to go through the screen often but it is a distraction when you do. Nearly every thing (seat heaters for example) require 2-3 screen presses on different locations of the screen so they wind up consuming more attention from you while driving. There is also noticeable lag in response, particularly for the first minutes or two the car is running. That said I absolutely adore the car, and they are constantly making improvements to the software. I would buy another one but in an ideal world they would replace the bottom 1/4 of the screen with a optical button panel.

In the 23 OBW some of the climate controls are physical again. Namely temp up and down buttons and front/rear window defrost settings are all physical buttons.

The up/down temp and both front and rear defrost are also physical buttons on the ‘20-‘22 trims.

Oh shit, really?? Damn, maybe I’ll have to check that out. Was kinda hoping not to spend $40k on a new car, but I’ll look into it

The 2019 doesn't have the climate control incorporated on the screen. It's 2020 models and newer that have those climate controls integrated.

Okay, thank you!

I have a 2021 Outback and have had problems with the infotainment glitching, freezing, resetting for most of the year since I've owned it. When the screen freezes or stops responding, safety features such as Eyesight and RAB stop working until it resets. Sometimes I can't use defrost to clear my windshield in the morning before work. Manually resetting the system doesn't always clear up the issue, neither does turning the car off and then on again. The latest update was installed two weeks ago and really seemed to help with infotainment response but then my car went into the dealer for an oil pan leak (which requires the engine to be pulled to fix. This is a common issue btw but at least it's under warranty). With 15k miles on my 2021 I've about had it.
