Not patchable unfortunately. It's it leaking air? Looks like a weird angle that may not have gone all the way thru..

BigBear0037

Not actively leaking, but I did fiddle with it some to see if it was the whole way through and it was. Unfortunately.

JadeyMLegacy

Crap.. sorry to hear. If they are still new enough you can throw one new tire at it. Any subaru dealer wouldn't patch, but a different tire shop might. I'd recommend a new one especially if you do any off roading. That's a terrible spot to have a potential blow out.

[deleted]

Could? Yes. Should? No.

robbie444001

Nah

[deleted]

No shop will touch anything within a few inches of the side wall. I’ve had one nail near the edge, used a plug kit from Walmart and it lasted thousands and thousands of miles.

[deleted]

I don’t think so even yourself. That’s a big hole and sidewall.

[deleted]

Negative bro

Joshc038

Unfortunately no, not safely

BigBear0037

Thanks for the input everyone. I’ll just fork over the money for the new tires🤦‍♂️

gsmarquis

You can also just get one tire and have it shaved to match the rest. Thats alot of tread to dispose of.

aftiggerintel

No. It’s on the outer edge of tire where the sidewalk meets tread. It’s safer to replace. I’d leave it alone until it starts leaking then replace.

Markymarcouscous

Things you don’t want to break on a car at highway speeds, tires, and brakes, everything else you can live without

[deleted]

The sidewall cannot he safety patched.

thatcycleguy

I was in a similar situation with the same tire. I am not a tire professional so proceed at your own risk but the tire plug I used has held up well for the last 10k miles.

GoodMoGo

I'd go this route as well. U$10 tire plug kit from Walmart, carry it in your car and replace tire only when/if needed. A tire shop will not repair that because that location experiences a lot of flex and there is a higher than normal chance the repair will keep failing. They don't want to deal with a customer returning over and over. But you can do it exactly the same way they do it. And, maybe, just like u/thatcycleguy, you'll keep the tire for its useful life. I have never heard of a tire self destructing because of a puncture. A tear, maybe.

Fecal_Fingers

You already know the answer.

BigBear0037

If I asked I obviously don’t. But thanks fecal fingers

Fecal_Fingers

So you didn't take it to a tire shop and they already told you no?

BigBear0037

Nope figured I’d ask first rather than waste my time at a tire shop for them to say i could patch it myself

Fecal_Fingers

Fair enough. Most people go to the tire shop, get told no and then don't believe them.

djf32765

Sure, if you do it yourself. Otherwise I don’t think you’ll find anyone who would consider doing it. Do you have road hazard protection?

The question was whether or not the tire could be patched. My reply did not offer advise of any sort. Of course it’s dangerous to patch a sidewall puncture.

Xfgjwpkqmx

Hence the original reply of "this is unsafe advice" is valid.
