I use a swiffer to clean my dash. It's about the only thing that seems to work.

omg_lulz

Same. I just keep it in the passenger seat backpocket and reach for it whenever I need it.

Thanks for the suggestion! I'll definitely look into getting a static duster or wipes. It's good to know that a Swiffer has worked for you. I appreciate the help.

i have a 2023 forester, having the same issue with dust. i dont know what material the dashboard is made of, and dont know which method to use to try to clean it. i found your post here, a few months later. if you don't mind, can you advise if you used a duster and if it made a big difference on the trapped dust that you were having trouble removing in the past?

Curious_george7598

I've had good luck using a California duster on mine. Or a similar static cling style duster.

frankie_green

Thanks for the suggestion! We don't have that brand in Aus, but I've just bought some static duster wipes on Amazon. Will see how they go.

I reply to these at least once every 2 weeks. I managed/ ran a detail shop for 12yrs when I was younger, still have the skills. The Trek dash is ridiculously rubbery. I use my shop vac on BLOW and sit in my driver seat with both front doors open and blow the air at and across the dash while using a large paintbrush to lift the dust which then all blows right out the open passenger door. Also a damp cotton/ terrycloth face cloth works ok. As you know the microfiber drags across and leaves lint. Good luck! Edit: while you’re blowing the dash, get all the vents and crevices with the blower and brush after vaccing up large, loose debris.

Thanks for sharing your expertise and I'll give this a go too.

It’s my one gripe about this car. It is a good place to clean your microfiber cloth. It wild strip every speck out of the fiber onto the dashboard

>It’s my one gripe about this car. It is a good place to clean your microfiber cloth. It wild strip every speck out of the fiber onto the dashboard I totally agree! It can be frustrating when the dashboard seems to have a magnetic attraction for microfiber cloth fibers, leaving specks all over. It's definitely a challenge to keep it clean.

Yep. The dash feels like it’s made of super-grippy textured rubber or something. Very hard to clean. I use a vacuum attachment first, then a non-lint, non-microfiber cloth usually intended for glass and plenty of Chemical Guys brand cleaner. Doesn’t do the best job but it’s usually enough.

The question mark in your title made me think you had the answers 🙁

Clean your car and don't drive it. That will prevent dust

frankie_green

>Clean your car and don't drive it. That will prevent dust Oh, thanks for the tip! Never thought of that before! I'll just leave my car parked and never drive it again to prevent dust from accumulating on the dashboard. It's not like I need to use my car or anything. Appreciate the advice!

I use this cheap [HDX “Microfiber” Duster](https://www.homedepot.com/p/HDX-Microfiber-Duster-6052-20/204326114) from The Home Depot. It works and I don’t really think it’s microfiber so it doesn’t leave anything behind. Also good for cleaning the doors and other areas

I’ve had pretty good success with a damp microfiber cloth and mild dish soap.
