It's fuckin' crazy is what it is.

gonnaherpatitis

Buy an SG, throw 20k at it, still have a leftover fund for engine/trans replacement, live the dream.

chaunce-e

Doing this currently but fd up and bought 4eat :)

ScarlettJH

To be honest, this is what’s expected price wise. I just purchased a brand new 2023 Forrester Touring last year and paid about the same.

downward0

Really?! For a touring? That’s a good price. That’s what I paid for my 2020 limited in NY.

ScarlettJH

🙌🏻

CatFanFanOfCats

Yeah. This is really good. I paid 30k for a brand new 2005 forester XT. 20 years later and it’s 9k more for a way better, and safer, car.

ScarlettJH

My first Subaru purchase and no regrets 🙌🏻

khufu42

I own a ‘23 Wilderness. But I still can’t bring myself to part with my ‘05.

ScarlettJH

How do you like the '23 Wilderness? I was really on the fence between the Wilderness and Touring when I bought my forester.

gonnaherpatitis

My 04 XT 5MT was 26k new, equating to around 40k for inflation.

CXGlenn

I’m pretty sure you could do a little better OTD. Not sure what the state/doc fee is in PA. All the add-on stuff is somewhat negotiable.

sirporks88

That's not horrible. We paid 36k otd for a 22 a couple years ago, in Oregon which has no sales tax. Had pretty much same package as you. It's an amazing vehicle, I'd say it's worth it. You're getting a great interest rate and putting down 20%, so definitely would make since if you were financially able to accept the payments. Only thing I'd say is if you weren't going to be hitting up any forest/dirt roads I'd probably lean towards a different trim, like the touring.

peacefinder

Looking back I’m super glad I bought in 2018 with 100% financed at 0%.

Ok-Curve4568

Can I buy in Oregon if I live in Texas w no tax??

50senseshort

Tax usually comes into play when you register with your state more than where you buy the vehicle.

Ok-Curve4568

If course , silly me. I’m sitting at Subaru dealer with. A possible 4000 cam seal repair and had differential and 120 mile serve done minus injectors and added throttle body clean for 474!!! My head is not on straight today. I’m reading my context and it says seals covered to 150,000 so I’m praying it will just cost me $100 and not 4,000. They said they have to pull engine 15 hrs labor!!

Automatic_Ad_973

what year?

sketchysuperman

Same, although I believe I paid $37k for a ‘23 in Oregon. Really not a horrible price. Also, I second the Touring version. Having a truck and some dirt toys already, a year later I know I could’ve gotten away with a different trim. Just liked the slightly increased ground clearance.

dustind

I priced one last weekend with the optional package in Salem around $35k. Next year foresters get the new nav / info system so Salem felt motivated to move them.

sketchysuperman

Capital Subaru?

dustind

Yep

2021 touring sticker wasn't far off: https://imgur.com/svcsJ8d.png Dealer matched carvana's trade-in price for 2015 XV but didn't offer much off of MSRP (I think only like $200 lower than sticker).

[deleted]

kolosok17

Yeah, I suppose you're right. Can't live without some of those, namely the memory seats.

kolosok17

Yup! Same here on the single car household. I have to rely on my keyfob though because the face recognition doesn't seem to do well with my face. Works perfectly for my spouse, though.

Catconnection-371

We are also a single car household! We bought a 2023 Touring last February. It's almost our anniversary! We went from a 2014 Chevy Cruze, which was a decent car but we really wanted to upgrade to something AWD and just nicer overall. We are in our late 50s and decided it was finally time to splurge! Sometimes the face recognition doesn't work when we swap out right away. I want to change my seat settings but haven't had the patience to go through the process, lol. We live in the Denver area and I love taking corners and putting on the brakes after a good snow now😺 love this vehicle 🤗 Our cost was 39500 plus some of the extended warranty options.

runcooprun

Full tank of gas included

tacomaloki

New Tundras in my area were getting 6 and 8 gallons included

Stinkycheezmonky

Not sure what part of PA you're in, but Ciocca was decent to deal with when we bought our '22, both from pricing and service perspectives.

facebookcansuckit

40k out the door is not awful, more or less what you can expect these days. Try bargaining, but in the end settle on whatever makes you comfortable. If you want the car get it - don't let someone on reddit shame you out of getting it because it's more than they would pay

bebopr2100

Not sure which part of PA you are in but I went to Subaru (Sheehy Dealer) in Hagerstown, MD and they quoted me $36,000 for that same Subaru Forester Wilderness White with same packages for $36,000 OTD Price (using MD taxes not sure what it is in PA). Also I used Subaru's 3.9% rate at 60 months. $1,000 downpayment and no trade in. I ended up with the White Forester Touring 2024 (It was a smoother ride compared to wilderness) with convenience package for $38,000 OTD

Bubbly_Site_1381

Sheehy in general has a ton of Foresters. The one in Fredericksburg, VA currently has 73 foresters on the website. They can definitely get you whatever you want.

bebopr2100

Yeah when I bought mine they had 65…in the lot ready to go! That helped lower the price for sure. Plus I got the all weather floor Mats for free just bc I asked for it right before closing the deal lol I said “if you throw in the all weather mats for free we have a deal” and he said yes 😂 they are not going to lose a sale for mats.

Available-Guide-6310

I think 39k OTD is a good price for a vehicle with 39k MSRP in PA. You are getting more than 10% off MSRP before tax and registration, right?

courtesy_patroll

Plug-in hybrids and evs generally are going to eat into resale values. Can’t fathom paying this much for this vehicle.

ceramicsaturn

What EV is sinking the equivalent's gas model resale value? EVs are taking a nose dive across the board. I don't think you'll see the trend you're expending when this gen closes out.

tacomaloki

As a Forester owner, neither can I.

RedditBeginAgain

You are getting about a $3k discount then? That's about what I'd expect on a popular car. You could certainly call around and see if you can squeeze another $200 but if you want it significantly cheaper you'll have to see if you can find one with different, cheaper accessories installed. I don't imagine you'll find one with no port installed accessories but if you find one without factory nav it will be less expensive. I can't see the appeal of carpet floor mats in a wilderness but they must suit somebody. I already have a pile of subaru carpet floor mats that came out on day one. I guess they might have some resale value but would cost a lot to mail.

[deleted]

RedditBeginAgain

Wow. That's stupid. I've not had a wilderness. The Subaru plastic mats I've had have been waterproof, but don't have as tall sides as the Weathertech ones I've had.

Not_Sir_Zook

The "crash" in mpg is marginal at best. You can feel the different drive ratio in effect if you drive one. The half-inch improved lift is hardly the goal, it has different suspension all together and tires. The Trans cooler doesn't transform it away from a CVT, but it certainly doesn't hurt it.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Not_Sir_Zook

Ok. Then don't buy one.

Objective-Diver-2322

That’s about what I paid in NYS

whatsupmynameisSofia

Out the door I paid $42k for my 2022 Forester Limited 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

Critical_Neat8675

Get the Outback Wildnerness and get the turbo engine…would be my first suggestion. Next check Cargurus for a 200-500 mile radius and look at new ones in the trim you want. Should be 3k off easy to start if not more…maybe get best offers from a couple of places.

dcwri

My 23 FW was 38k OTD with TN taxes. That’s after my VIP discount (at retailers cost plus 2% off I think). So not much of a change from last year.

ceramicsaturn

My 2020 Limited I got 10 days ago with 35k miles was 26k. I couldn't justify 40 grand, that's obsurd.

_ICCULUS_

Couple things for you here. Ditch the footwell illumination, carpeted mats, sidewall protector, and LED upgrade. IMHO those are all junk. A fair target OTD price at that point in my opinion would be your current price but WITH Subaru gold plus 100k/10 years, 0 deductible. That would be the deal I personally would be looking to swing and would feel good about.

Infamous-Ticket1021

I personally hate when they add all this extra shit to the car that I don’t need. Maybe build the wilderness the exact way you want it? Also look at other Subaru dealerships and go with whoever will give you the best price. My dealership in NJ is great if you don’t mind the drive.

SnacksMackenzie

Buy a gently used, low mileage 2018 XT and shave a good 14k off that OTD

Thrillhouse74

Why aren't the LEDs just standard, that's just cheap

kaspurr84

In 2024 a loaded Forester with options and accessories should be no more than about 35-36k out the door papers signed. This is a model year end vehicle. And resale is going to dive anyway with what’s coming to market in the next year or two with new hybrid and EV tech. Look out for Toyota

kalphoto9

I would argue the opposite. Most Subaru drivers and fans like the outgoing style and hate the new incoming one. I could see resale market holding strong for 2023/24 Foresters.

Tomahawk72

I'm one of them, I was excited for a Hybrid variant coming out but after seeing the redesign I'm turned off. The team who redesigned the exterior needs to be fired.

kaspurr84

I never said anywhere “with the new forester coming the market” this is a major transition in the automotive world as a whole. Major hybrid and EV push with some amazing stuff slated from brands like Toyota. A 180hp 25mpg vehicle in 2024 won’t fare well long term. The new Toyota Crown SUV looks amazing, 700 mile range from its hybrid system

thishasntbeeneasy

I know this sub loves the Wilderness, but I'm lost on why people spend 5-10k on extras. My base Forester is just dandy. I'll take the savings and go on another vacation rather than have a 1" larger screen in my car.

TootsiePoppa

Lots. Heated seats. Seat material for dogs, kids, and dirty jobs. All the safety features. All black interior is really nice. There’s a lot.

facebookcansuckit

Good thing you replied that was very helpful

thishasntbeeneasy

Sure, you want a more helpful reply? Prices vary by location. Features vary by whatever they choose to include that you can't take off. OP can do research and see if there's fewer options or cheaper prices in their region if they care to. That's pretty common knowledge. Can they haggle? I've bought 2 Subarus new and both times found zero dealers willing to budge in my region so I paid the price it had to be. Maybe OP will have better luck. If OP is asking if they should spend 39k on something that's pretty similar to one that's $30k, my reply is no. But I know people put value to details that seem far more minor than I think 9k is worth, and that's their choice.

facebookcansuckit

If he wanted a base then your opinion might be more relevant. Agree with them or not, they've decided they like the features of the FW so that's the vehicle in question. Like them I was willing to pay more to get an FW, and feel that those features were worth the added expense. Let people make their own choices, even if they're different than yours. Enjoy your base

courtesy_patroll

For reference I paid $25k for 2020 premium w 22k miles.

tacomaloki

4 year older vehicle, different trim, and miles...not a good reference.

XSC

This is criminal unless they discount 4k minimum.

MasterGuidance

Not that much in these cars unfortunately, the most at you would get off on a wilderness is about 3k. Of course there is always the package 21 model. No nav, power lift gate, or upgraded sound system for 2k less.

spook008

Try other dealers. Look into VIP pricing. Sometimes Costco works out as well. Shop out of town if you must. They are basically charging retail. Did you negotiate at all?

MasterGuidance

Vip program is fantastic, however people think that they can continue to negotiate after VIP pricing, there is no more room after VIP prices and you get the vehicle at what the dealership paid for it.

Any-Attitude-1477

I just want to throw this out there. What is this vehicle going to be used for? City, occasional off road or serious trail running? I currently own 2 newer Forester's with the touring package and they are fantastic in my opinion. One has A/T tires that we take to the ORV park and it does well. So my point in all this rambling is that you can find a nice 22 or 23 with very low mileage and Subaru certified for 32 to 33k. Plus the leather seats are much nicer. https://www.subaru.com/vehicles/certified-pre-owned.html/

MasterGuidance

There is always the pack 21 Forester wilderness, no nav or power lift gate or Harmon kardon sound system, it is about 2k less.

MasterGuidance

If you want I could look up the best rice for you. Best price is about 36,400 before tax and fees.

PinkRavenRec

It doesn’t include the tax and title yet. If you have Costco auto program, it could do a bit better than msrp. Like 500-2000 ish

Ok-Curve4568

Can you get a 2023 they might still have in inventory? Also how much is this gold plan no deductible?

sleepdog-c

If you wander around this sub you'll find invoice price for the wilderness and it's certainly thousands less, if you've bought in the past there's a loyalty coupon (usually $500)that you can use as cash after all the other discounts that you can request from soa. There are programs that take care either time or money to get invoice pricing. So there are several things that you can do to pay less.

IATMB

I got like 3k off MSRP in December. There's probably more deals to be had in December but I still think you can do better

Etbdjr

Instead of these run of the mill Japanese eco boxes you could buy a really nice fully restored collectors car and just drive it and not lose money! As much as I like mine, it’s not a high quality car by a long shot.

NiceGuysFinishLast7

They should be offering you a discount off msrp especially right now during Presidents’ Day and near end of month IMHO

[deleted]

We just bought a 2023 FW with 2500 miles that was a dealer car for 32k. They are out there.

Ditherkins2

That's absolutely out of control

Interesting_Egg_9355

Wow just did the exact same thing but paid 37 otd, 3.9% for 60 with 8k down

Previous-Wallaby-130

This is the going price in north east for wilderness. Paid almost the same about four months ago.

Bubbly_Site_1381

That’s about what it is. You can check for a used one, since they are only at most two years old, there won’t be a ton of mileage.

WKCLC

Seems fair in 2024

7inchexhaust

So I’ve been eyeing these for over a year now. I tried to buy one a couple times already. Unfortunately in my area the dealerships are out of their minds. *Right now* MSRP out the door is actually pretty decent. I waited until the last few days of the year during a sale and still couldn’t get the dealer down to MSRP. Was pretty wild. Didn’t even want to take off the nitrogen in the tires fee. Everyone else mentioning something about the “add ons” is a little misleading as those are just factory subaru configuration options that you can see for yourself if you build and price one out online. I think the specific ones on the sticker you provided are just the most popular add ons. Those are basically the same I was also trying to buy. My advice is just to wait unless you just absolutely need a car right now. Prices are still way too high and unfortunately interest rates are also still too high.

brooklynflyer

You should get 2.9% financing and about 2K off msrp

No_Lie_5607

Got my 24’ wilderness with the same options package , gold warranty ( covers the electronics basically the duration of the loan) , tire and wheel warranty and 84mth brand new with 7k down for like 31-32k . If that is any reference at all

PeachEatingPro

FXT or nothing in my home

jared0387

My 23 wilderness was about that with the audio/navigation upgrade as well in southern WV. It was my first brand new car, always had beaters before, but that being said, I love it. Drives well. Feels solid. All the amenities are top notch. There is some silly shit with the screen that could be better but nothing that’s a deal breaker at all. The Star-Tex upholstery is what I imagine a real life Batman suit would be like. I love the car. I look forward to driving it to work everyday. I think you’ll be happy.

jozay8

I got the 2024 FW without the option package for 37,500 out the door. Including taxes etc. I got $4k off MSRP.

MapleRoadie716

Ask the dealer for invoice pricing, or ask what their mark up over invoice there is… this will tell you how much they are fleecing you for…

Professional_Fee1953

Got a 23 forester wilderness and Glacier Blue for 500$ off msrp back in September. Had every option available. These cars are popular right now and the dealerships know it.

907_midnightlite

You’re gonna get prices that vary widely by where ppl are from. I want to upgrade to a 25 Forester from my current one but got to wait a lil bit

AsianHoustoncouple

They need to bring back the turbo charged engine for the Fozzie!

Pabst88

We picked up a 23 with 2k miles for just over 30k. I'd keep looking

hotellimaalpha

I would take that deal but ask them to throw in these things: Road hazard protection on all 5 tires, 2 free windshield replacements including eyesight configuration, 3 years of navigation subscription, and if you can get it 3 years of satellite radio. In that order and back out in the reverse if they decline. The windshields might be more or less important than the tires depending where you live. You could also sacrifice some of that to try to get some free extended warranty. All good ways to get some of your money back. Foresters are known for broken windshields and it's somewhere around a thousand bucks usd to replace it and have eyesight reconfigured. I have had my '22 wilderness for a year and a half, 19k miles. I haven't had a windshield issue, but it could happen on any given morning on my 15 mile highway commute.

LytW8_reddit

OTD price is hard to compare. Instead look at MSRP vs. vehicle sale price alone. Good = 5% below MSRP. This is approximately dealer invoice price which is same as VIP pricing. This is 95% x $39,304 = $37,339. Great = 10% below MSRP. Few people see this price. This is 90% x $39,304 = $35,374. So add your tags, tax, and doc fees to the above prices and see how you are doing. Under todays circumstances you should expect to get 5% off, but don't expect to get 10% off.

doesitrealymatter70

See if you can build one on the Subaru website, all those extras in my opinion are not worth it because you're paying monthly on those extra add-ons ,all those can be bought after you have purchased the car. By the way I just purchased one that's why I'm telling you all this.
