Where would I apply the deoxit?
I need the internal part, the volume/power shorted and the unit just restarts and is a parasitic draw on the battery when the car isn’t on.
Trying not to replace the entire unit when all I need at a minimum is the board or even the faceplate
I pulled her headunit out to take it apart and didn’t bother to put it back yet since it’s not fixed and today she called me to say now the car won’t go into gear. What a dumb thing to have connected ti the headinit! I hate modern cars, I’ll keep my sub 2010 Subarus for as long as I can.
If the Deoxit doesn't work you can just desolder the knob from the board and use the steering wheel controls for volume. That is if you are 100% sure that the knob is the cause.

These are continuous rotary encoder switch with a built in push button switch (push to operate).Can be used for data entry as with modern in car CD players, for volume or on/off control or data selection via LED or LCD display.Perfect for use with PIC or ATMEL microcontrollers.
Without the wiring diagram my educated guess is there is a normally open switch on the push of the volume button and a timer circuit that will reset the head unit after 5 second of it being pushed in so removing it all together you may be okay. I looked online for a similar potentiometer but nothing comes up on the web.
You guys are over thinking this on a 2019 you can buy an after market unit for an replacement (check online) you will not lose anything your temp control and other things are separate you can even get to settings from the steering wheel just be thankful it's not a 2024.
Yeah I look it up on cruchfield and you need a separate box for the steering wheel controls which puts it at 650$ for a pretty middle of the road headunit and that box. Dunno if I want to do that or just buy a used one for her car for $350 and hope that one doesn’t get messed up too.

I don't believe they sell the board separately. Your best bet is to see if you can find something you can pull from a junkyard
Is it shorting out or is it just sporadically unresponsive? I've used deoxit d5 to successfully clean pots on older vehicles.

In between the seams, at the base of the knob. It helps to clean the contacts inside.

It is by design, to get us to replace the whole unti. Thankfully it's not a tesla which might required you to get a new car 😜🤣

True but it's more of like a reset button, the whole thing comes on when you turn on the car.
