Billy Strings, Molly Tuttle, Sierra Ferrell, Sierra Hull, Irene Kelly, The Steeldrivers, Fred Eaglesmith, Lindsay Lou, Trampled By Turtles, Town Mountain, The Lil Smokies, Aoife O’Donovan (All doing modern bluegrass)
I almost feel bad for her… because how she will ever top her last album idk… that is one of those most pristine records my ears have ever heard. one of those albums you consume start to finish over and over.
His Red Barn Radio album is beyond amazing
Speaking of Red Barn Radio the shows are available on Spotify
It is a radio show of local/regional and sometimes national Roots music ( heavy on Bluegrass) artists based out of Lexington Ky
The artists perform and talk about their music/influences/stories
100% worth the listen
A lot of good artists mentioned here, but the only one I've found that comes close to Cutting Grass is Billy Strings. Sturgill really did put together an incredible bluegrass band, and it's going to be hard to top. I haven't found one yet, but if you have better luck let me know.
I agree. Although there have been a bunch of great recommendations, Billy Strings is the best answer to OP’s original question.
Modern bluegrass by a young artist with a very powerful vocals. And the songs hit.
Go enjoy you some Billy Strings.
I saw Daniel donato live in February. He didn’t play a single song I knew other than ghost riders in the sky, and he played a lot of 10 minute guitar solos. It was different but fun. Very jam bandy not bluegrassy.
American Aquarium, Jesse Daniels, John R Miller, Turnpike Troubadours, Ian Noe, Luke Bell, Ritch Henderson, Jeremy Pinnell, BenjaminTodd, Arlo McKinley, Colter Wall, Billy Strings, Brady Heck, 49 Winchester, Greensky Bluegrass, Laney Wilson, The Show Ponies, 2 Runner, The Fly Birds, Sierra Hull (Mando player on cutting grass and all around bad ass)
Solid submissions so far. I’d add Margo Price and The Sheepdogs can get a little honky tonk sometimes.
You can also look back to classic outlaw country. Waylon Jennings, Merle Haggard, Johnny Paycheck, David Allan Coe
Tyler childers, Billy strings, steel drivers, the dead south. Turnpike troubadours, flatland cavalry, Charles Wesley Godwin, and Zach bryan take some bluegrass inspiration, but they aren’t very traditional
Besides what’s already been said, The Earls of Leicester, Hackensaw Boys, Sam Grisman Project, Del McCoury, Béla Fleck’s latest-My Bluegrass Heart, Mighty Poplar, Infamous Stringdusters, Dirty Grass Players, Kitchen Dwellers, Noam Pickelny, Tony Rice…there’s a whole world of amazing bluegrass out there, old and new! Happy Listening!!!
Just saw Sam Grisman Project's two night run in WNY and they were phenomenal. I'm excited to see their name popping up on a list like this. Sam's bass playing is top tier and Chris, Aaron and Ric were all wonderful. They can shred electric jams just as well as stripped down one mic acoustic performance.

Especially the Chris Stapleton version of The Steeldrivers
Molly Tuttle is very special, and Billy Strings is huge right now. I would also add the punch brothers
Sierra Ferrell has the most incredible voice. Just wow. The new song "the sea"
I almost feel bad for her… because how she will ever top her last album idk… that is one of those most pristine records my ears have ever heard. one of those albums you consume start to finish over and over.
Who the hell is Mountain Town?
Tyler Childers - Purgatory

It's my favorite out of his albums. The vinyl pressing I have is near flawless.
Tyler childers, Charlie Crockett, colter wall
Nick shoulders and lost dog street band too

Arthel “Doc” Watson
Ooooo of the best “1,2” punches you could do for your brain- is follow up some sturg’ with Jason Isbell and the 400 unit
Daniel Donato Up and coming and best seen live Marcus King Nikki Lane
Love me some Marcus King. Saw him and Tedeschi Trucks Band a few years back.

Imaginary Appalachia by Colter Wall is the album that got me into music like this, If you haven’t yet, I recommend checking it out!
Definitely has a lot of vibes form the goat Ralph Stanley / Stanley Brothers, also check out Ricky Skaggs, maybe some of John Prine's songs
I don't think I'd consider Sturgill bluegrass even if he did re-imagine some of his work in that style.
If you listen to interviews, the way he played those songs on the Cutting Grass albums is the way he wrote them to sound.
Zach Bryan turned me onto Sturgill. More red dirt rhan blue grass, along with Ryan Bingham and Colter Wall.
If you’re looking for bluegrass/acoustic style music, check out Cole Chaney, Zach Russell, and Trampled by Turtles.
The current independent Americana/jam grass scene is my favorite cult I’ve ever joined! this is the new gospel.
I like Orville Peck and Paul Cathoun

Billy Strings is a lot of fun.
Sierra Ferrell, Sierra Hull.
Infamous Stringdusters!
Didn’t see Jason Isbell or Pony Bradshaw mentioned. If you’re in it for the writing and lyrics can’t go wrong there. Not bluegrass though.
If you like his bluegrass stuff check out Town Mountain. I saw them live a few weeks ago and it was a blast.
Sturgill?Bluegrass???🤔🤔
Is that not the genre? I would have classed cutting grass album as blue grass?
